Food: I ordered the croquettes and the zucchini flower stuffed with shrimp. OMG, those dishes were absolutely delicious! For dessert, I had the cheesecake, and wow, it was incredibly good! I also ordered a *tinto de verano*, which was perfectly made and very tasty. Service: While walking with my husband, the owner approached us and gave us a great introduction to the place. His recommendations, positive energy, and attention made us feel welcome. The service was amazing, and the waiter was very friendly, always attentive to our needs. PAmbiance: The restaurant is beautiful, with a Spanish-style vibe, complete with music from Spain.

Wow! Ok, disclaimer, if you're not familiar with basque cooking or interested in going out of your comfort zone, you might not appreciate this place as much as we did. My father in law grew up in Donostia and we had to give this place a try when we saw it. The wines are reasonably priced and they even serve txakoli which is a favorite from the region (order a bottle if you're here). We got the corvina (fish) and the chuletón (steak) with a green salad, fries, and piquillo peppers on the side for a group of 4, it was plenty. This cut of steak is usually a little chewier/fatty and cooked rare - beware if you're expecting a run of the mill sirloin. It is so tasty though if you know what you're in for. The fish was simple and great. The basque like simple ingredients, allowing oil, garlic, and salt to bring out the flavors of the food naturally. The peppers, wow! Please get these! Such a tasty side. The green salad was refreshing too. The cheesecake left something to be desired but we are big fans of the Leku version, which is much creamier/undercooked on the inside. Fun fact, my father in law doesn't even know where this comes from as he never remembers it from his days in Spain. All together a fabulous meal and great service. We will be back!

I wanted to try Casa Xabi since it's recent opening. But truly, I expected a little more. It was a bit of a disappointment, at least for us. We ordered the octopus appetizer, and it came, I would say, undercooked. (They call it al dente), which may be okay for pasta, but a little tough for octopus. Main dishes were arroz de bogavante and the Corvina. The corvina needed more seasoning... had no flavor. Arroz de bogavante, I think, had like caramelized onions that overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the bogavante. For dessert, we had the cheesecake, and it was delicious... light and airy. It's probably the best thing we had here. The service I have to say was excellent. Very attentive and efficient. I will try coming here again for a second chance.

Horrible tortilla that doesn't taste the genuine Spanish tortilla. I believe they put cheese on it.

Food may be American-basque style but not certainly Spanish. Not bad but not good. The tortilla is far to be close to a typical Spanish tortilla. 3 starts because of the environment which is beautiful. Over priced too.

Casa Xabi was nowhere in my plans before I stopped by. That evening I was actually headed to a different restaurant and i stopped along the way, while waiting to meet up a friend. I loved the menu options/aesthetics so much, that I cancelled my reservation and dined here instead. There are no regrets with this choice. The server gave us a complete run down of the menu and background information on Basque cuisine. Given that I'm Spanish, it really intrigued me. We started with the jamón ibérico de bellota....p h e n o m i n a l. For our Main course, we had the snapper and lamb shank. Everything was on a point. We could have easily Had a second appetizer, so I highly recommend getting two and then a main course. Service was great. I'd come back for a date or even a nice family dinner.

Disappointing. The restaurant is located in Coconut Grove, with tables at the sidewalk and an air-conditioned dining room with a view of the kitchen. We ordered a txacolí, a fresh young Basque wine that was appropriately priced and at the right temperature. We also had "matrimonio": three pieces of toasted bread with grated fresh tomato, an anchovy filet in oil, and anchovy filet in vinegar. It was quite delicious. We ordered a tortilla, wich was minuscule, around 3/4" high and maybe 3" across. The tortilla was somehow prepared in a pan that did not have enough olive oil, and tasted faintly of burnt egg as a result. Simple dishes require very precise execution, which Casa Xabi is unfortunately lacking. The same problem could be seen in the French fries, which were very soggy, and the salad, this time too acidic. The cheesecake, however, was perhaps the big disappointment. Instead of the the soft and creamy center Basque cheesecakes are known for, this one was tough and overcooked. The fruit compote and fresh strawberries were not able to help it. To top it all of, services was unattentive and just not nice, in spite of the chef walking around the dining room. In summary, excellent wines and interesting menu, but execution is lacking for prices at the higher end.

Casa Xabi has only been open for about two months; today I tried it for the Miami Spice lunch with my good friend. We ordered the hot dog, croquetas, arroz Ibérico, snapper and apple dessert. I accompanied my meal with a refreshing txakoli wine, perfect pairing with my fish and refreshing. The portions for the Miami Spice lunch were very generous and the food is authentic Basque. I definitely want to return and try more items on the menu. Chef Xabi came over and spoke to us about his concepts for the menu and passion for food. The service was great and the atmosphere is cozy and relaxing. Loved this place!

    Txakoli and cheesecake! Both amazing!

My mom grew up in Spain, and even though we've lived in Miami for 25 years now she still loves to go out to Spanish restaurants. I googled some near us and Casa Xabi came up. We decided to go. My mom is very picky and she loved everything. From the ambiance, the music, the food, it was like going back to Spain for a moment. The waitress Liz was also very accommodating and even made a terrific wine choice for my mother. Will definitely come back!

The arroz iberico is delicious! And the croquetas are a must. Our server was so sweet and attentive. Definitely not your regular Spanish cuisine-- has more of an upscale twist to all the dishes but very good food!! Great ambiance and location.

We made a reservation prior to coming because in order to make it inside you need to book a reservation. The establishment is small which is why you have to reserve. We came at around 10:45 and our reservation was for 11:00. They sat us down right away. The vibes are chill and cool, there's a dj playing music. It was like house, tech vibes. The music was great and people were enjoying their time. We had 1 cocktail each and went on our way because we just came to check out the spot honestly. I had the fabulous martini which has a purple hue to it, it was very refreshing. I love that they garnish it with a lavender. The espresso martini was made with Don Julio Reposado, and had real fresh espresso as per the menu. It was good but a bit strong too! We had asked for an extra shot of espresso on the side just as a pick me up. But our server told us that it comes cold, which is odd because the menu literally says freshly brewed espresso in the cocktail description. It was fine though, we still enjoyed the drinks. Overall, our experience was nice! If you are ever in the Hialeah area, you should totally check this spot out. They also have bites you can order but we were full from dinner and didn't get a chance to try anything. Definitely have to come back to try some more cocktails and grab some bites!

Unlike some other reviewers that scoffed at the prices of the wine, that didn't bother me so much. We had a bottle here that cost $55 and it retails for about $28; I was OK with that, as all restaurants and wine bars have a markup above retail, and even when you go to spots like Happy Wine or El Carajo and pick out a bottle to drink while in their shop, they charge a corkage fee for that. What I did have a problem with is that, after the "service charge" and other fees were added on, our $55 bottle rang up to more than $73 in total, which was ludicrous. When we first arrived at Magie we were met by a young guy who pointed out the bottles and where the various charcuterie items are located in the coolers, and we were then pretty much left on our own. We really just wanted a glass of wine each, but unlike places like Vinoteca, here at Magie they had a very limited selection of wines by the glass, and the ones available all seemed to come in single-serve cans. We picked out a bottle to share, went to the register, paid and the guy opened it and handed us 2 glasses. When I returned to get napkins, the guy just motioned to where the napkins were so I could grab my own (after moving a delivery cart out of the way by myself so I could reach them). Again, though this place includes an automatic "service charge", we received zero actual "service" unless one considers the 45 seconds it takes to uncork our bottle and charge us for the purchase. We had a seat, had a glass of wine each and then re-corked our bottle of wine and took it with us. Overall I think Magie is a great concept with lots of potential. The inside seating area is interestingly decorated and outfitted with lots of eclectic furniture and items on the walls, and the relatively large patio seating out front with tables for 2 to 8 people is shielded from the adjacent street/traffic and shaded by lots of trees and greenery. The ambiance overall is really very nice. The service, however, was non-existent, especially considering the automatic charge for that, and while prices of at least some wines aren't terribly out of line, the fact that all the service charges, taxes and fees added $20 to the cost of our bottle was a bit of a shocker. Magie should consider adding more wines by the glass IMO. Not just subpar quality single-serve cans, but decent wines, poured from a proper bottle with a topper that preserves the wine between pours like most every quality wine bar commonly offers. Lastly, while I don't think anyone expects linen napkins and white glove service, the paper plates and plastic cutlery customers are given to eat with are a bit off vs. what this place appears to be trying to be and the prices charged. The "F*ck Brunch" positioning statement on the back of the staffs' shirts was an interesting touch.

The first location in the River is better imo because the location is bigger, there is plenty more seating than the Grove location. Although, I still enjoyed my time at this location as well. Sooo how it works is that you go inside and pick a bottle of wine from the fridges. You can also order by the glass if you aren't a big drinker or if you want to try different wines. The bottles are moderately priced depending on your selection. We chose an orange wine and it was nice, very refreshing, you can really get that citrus essence with every sip. Another thing that they have is that you can pick different cheeses and meats and they will build you a charcuterie board. I love this because it is all based on your selection, nothing will go to waste. They also have food you can order. A lot of people love the nuggets with caviar. I think they are decent imo but I'm not like in love with them. Parking can be a bit annoying... If there isn't street parking, you can also park in the garage. The service was good, the staff was friendly. The only thing that was a hassle was getting a table. We had to wait a bit in order for a table to become available. Overall, this spot is a very cozy place to hang and mingle with friends.
