Most either weren't familiar with my boiler or couldn't schedule a service call for days. When I called Rob, the owner of R. E. Coogan Heating Inc., he explained that they were busy but promised to stop by that evening to see what he could do. Rob arrived around 7 PM and spent over an hour troubleshooting the problem. Although he couldn't get the boiler running that night, he assured me he would contact the manufacturer the next day and continue looking for a solution. True to his word, he called me the following day with recommendations from the manufacturer and returned that evening to try them. It was clear that he was doing everything possible to repair the boiler and save us the expense of a replacement. Unfortunately, the boiler could not be repaired because the required parts were no longer available from the manufacturer. After exhausting every reasonable option to restore it, Rob helped us move forward with a replacement as quickly as possible. After four days without hot water, I expected we would have to wait at least another week for a new installation. Rob initially estimated that the work could begin Friday and be completed by Monday. However, he called on Wednesday to let me know he had rearranged his schedule and hoped to start earlier. At 3 PM on Thursday, Rob arrived with Henry and Nick to begin removing the old boiler. He then brought in additional crew members the next day and worked hard to complete the installation as quickly as possible. As promised, our new boiler was installed and our hot water was restored by Friday evening. What impressed me most was Rob's commitment to helping us. He went out of his way to accommodate our family, worked tirelessly to find the most cost-effective solution, and followed through on every promise he made. Henry, Nick, and the rest of the team were professional, courteous, and respectful of our home, leaving everything clean when the job was finished. It is rare to find a company that combines expertise, integrity, and genuine care for its customers the way R. E. Coogan Heating Inc. does. On the second to last day of my three week stay, their hot water heater sprung a leak. To make matters worse, this was Saturday and I was leaving for Los Angeles at 3 AM Monday morning. My parents were panicking. I got on Yelp and found three plumbers to come out that day and give us an estimate for replacing it. The first estimate was a bit steeper than we hoped. The second estimate (from GEM) was outrageous --almost double the price of the first estimate. My parents were freaking out. Then Brandon from Service Professionals (Somerset) arrived. He took one look at my parents' water heater and said how new it looked and that it should still be under warranty. (The other plumbers hadn't noticed this and my parents didn't remember that they got it only 3 years ago). Brandon went on to explain that because it was probably still under warranty, he would be able to take it out, bring in and get it replaced for much less. He said he could do the switch out with the warranty replacement first thing Monday. OMG! I had to leave my parents' water heater replacement job in a stranger's care. My dad is 89 years old and my mom is 84. To say that it would be easy to take advantage of them is an understatement. I couldn't sleep wondering if I had chosen the right plumber for the job. I just finished one of my bi-weekly Skype visits with the folks. They are thrilled with the beautiful work that Brandon did. What a relief! Brandon did exactly what he said he would do. He pulled out the old water heater, brought it in, got it replaced under warranty and installed the replacement for the price that he quoted. I am so grateful!
