I live in Los Angeles but I also work out of our location in Spring Valley. I noticed Casanova Fish Tacos near our workplace, especially after reading great Yelp reviews. I stopped in and placed my order with Hector, and mentioned to him that my wife and I enjoyed Rubio's as a fish taco option near we live. After talking with Hector and him describing his different taco options, I elected to try 3 different types, Baja Style Grilled Sweet Ginger, and Grilled Chipotle....all were excellent! Wow, wow, wow. Casanova Fish Tacos catered an event in my building a couple weeks ago and I was blown away by the quality and sheer tastiness of the fish tacos he puts out. I had the grilled ginger fish taco and the batter and fried taco. The ginger taco was so good, I went for seconds. Such dynamic flavors that almost reminded me of a "sushi taco", if there is such a thing. Above all else, I was impressed by how passionate and careful he is when making his food. Its like he makes every taco for someone he really cares about... and that adds to the flavor. I guess his secret ingredient is love (Casanova? anyone?) We tried these out at the RB farmer's market. Two fish tacos with chips is $7. I find this pricey so lose a star right there. Maybe if the tacos came with rice and beans, this price would be appropriate. However, food at farmer markets tend to be pretty pricey for whatever reason. The fish tacos were good. We ordered them grilled, which is always our preference and the fish was cooked well and came with generous amounts of cabbage and toppings. However, the taco it was wrapped in did not seem all that fresh to me. I would rate this an average fish taco. I've certainly had much better ones elsewhere. Pico de Gallo was good. I did not try the other salsas. The lowdown. Good but not special. And overpriced. read more

This mobile taco shop is delicious! I don't think Casanova has a truck per se but he does have a mobile kitchen and can crank out tacos on the go. I had the grilled shrimp taco which started with huge shrimp that were grilled and then placed on a bed of shredded cabbage. Casanova wrapped it in a warm corn tortilla and then put a special spicy sauce on top. He had fresh pico de gallo standing by but the taco had plenty of flavor as is. I asked Casanova for the taco to be served "gringo style" since its otherwise a very spicy dish and he was glad to comply with my white girl wishes. The shrimp in the taco were so meaty, something to really sink my teeth into. Others in my party had some of the fish tacos and agreed those were good as well. read more

Tried the fish wrap at the UTC farmers market, it was delicious! The wrap was huge and there are decent amount of fish in there. My only criticism is the presentation. The wrap is too big to fit on the plate along with the chips, and since they flap open easily I dropped all the toppings. The chips were also stale too, that might be because it was near the end of the night. read more

I wish I could give Hector and Casanova Fish Tacos TEN stars!! I found Hector on a local vendor page when I was desperate to find something to make my daughter's 18th birthday special. Hector invited us out to try his tacos and man am I glad he did. He was SO incredibly sweet and personable, and the food was sooooooooo yummy! I don't personally eat meat, so his staff made me a delicious quesadilla and amazing fries! My husband and daughter got his fish tacos and said they were SO good! I let them know it was my first time trying their food and the gentleman introduced himself as Hector. He gave me a run down of their entire menu. I decided to try the pibil and ginger tacos based on his recommendations. I was not disappointed! The fish is not dry and it is full of flavor in both tacos. The ginger was it for me just by a slight edge but again both were amazing and definitely not something I've tasted before. Was pleasantly surprised by these delicious tacos and quesadillas at a local brewery. Best fish tacos I've ever had. I loved both the tender battered fish and the grilled versions. Super flavorful optiins that are making my mouth water just thinking about them. These were clearly made with passion and the chef was vefy friendly and efficient. Amazingly enough, the beef quesadilla was out of this world too, not fatty at all. Instead, the beef was lean and very tender. All in all, this place hits it out of the park. I love tacos and have probably eaten at least 500 in my life so far, but Hector's red curry fish taco was the tastiest, best, most amazing taco I have ever eaten. I wish I'd taken a photo of it! He catered a party at my daughter's North Park, San Diego neighborhood, parking in her driveway and then setting up a clean, cute pop-up restaurant that was the highlight of our evening. He offered five different kinds of tacos -- three different kinds of fish, a chicken, and a carnitas -- plus guacamole and chips. This review is based solely on customer service since I have never eaten here and probably never will. The owner, Hector is very unorganized. I asked for a quote on two separate occasions. One for an event in Sept. 2014 and another for an upcoming event in June 2015. I contacted him through his Facebook business page and asked him for a quote based on the number of people I was expecting. The first time he said he would send me a quote. I never received one and the event came and passed. On the second occasion he again stated that he would send me a quote and asked for my email address. I provided him with my email address and when I asked him what his service included he stated that he would email me the quote and then we could go on from there. It's been 3 days and haven't heard from him. I asked him if he could please send me the quote this weekend and still no response. At this point I'm glad I didn't book them. I can only imagine how unorganized they must be that they would probably forget about my event and not show up. read more

I've only tried their gourmet plate which comes with the deep fried battered fish which tastes amazing and comes with red, green cabbage topped with a white sauce. The pico de gallo is amazing although those of you who can't handle spicy foods should probably steer clear because this stuff has a real kick to it.
