We ordered the gringa, a bunch of tacos, their famous the el tigre quesadilla, and Mexican sopapillas for dessert. It took about 20 minutes to get all of our food and it looked amazing. The Pesco Fresco was the taco of the month was my favorite. It had seared yellowfin tuna crusted with sesame seeds. It had slivers of jalapeno, sweetened cucumber salad, tossed with lime, salt, and agave. Their tortillas are made fresh with each order! All of their tacos were flavorful and unique. They have incredibly tasty fresh tortillas and their carne asada and pollo asado tacos were very tasty...nicely seasoned and great portions. Found this truck at a local craft brewery during a work-related happy hour. Everyone who ordered from the Artesano Tacos liked their food! I ordered Artesano's Famous Mexican Burrito. It's their family recipe from Durango. Flour tortillas filled with shredded beef marinated in a tomatillo salsa and served with light mayo and freshly sliced avocado. I enjoyed these! Flavorful. Not dry. There was a sufficient amount of beef. Their online menu claims that the salsa is a little spicy. It is not. My order came with chips and a small side of vegetables with some salsa. They were pretty standard. No complaints. I appreciated the vegetables with salsa. They do have other sides (such as rice and beans) available for an additional cost, but I did not find that necessary as my plate was plenty for me. Consider adding more sides if you are feeling especially famished. ___EXTRA INFO___ -They make their corn tortillas by hand onsite. -Additional specials are available, but you would need to check out the physical menu wherever the truck is located. -Prices are reasonable. This is hands down the best taco in San Diego! They are truly artisan tacos, as the name alludes to. I ordered the Carnitas Taco w/ Pineapple and the rather large serving of Chicken Nachos. Although I was a little skeptical at first about adding pineapple to a taco, the sweet and spicy ingredients made for a truly amazing combination! The huge helping of nachos had several cheeses that were melted over homemade chips and topped with fresh pico de gallo and thinly sliced jalapenos. It was so good, that my two friends who joined me practically ate the entire plate! What really impressed me was the fact that this was a family operation, with several generations in the kitchen, and they were all friendly with a smile on their faces. Despite the fact that there was a long line due to the savory food, the family worked hard and were very kind while providing excellent customer service. This is not your traditional Taco Shop experience, where a bunch of people who don't want to be there are taking orders like a factory and shoving the food out to customers. Blown away! A few days a week, there is a food truck in our work parking lot. The schedule is published in advance, so I saw this truck and thought why not try it out? Tbh, I didn't expect very much because it seems like nowadays everyone thinks they should have a food truck and so many of them are mediocre. NOT THIS ONE! From the moment the gentleman at the window took our order and described the different options for tacos, I had a suspicion that we were in for a treat. He was clearly not just slinging some soggy tacos and moving to the next customer, he described each ingredient in detail and how they layer the tacos and the cheese. Clearly a man who was passionate about his craft. It turns out that Carlos is the owner and chef and he is supremely talented. Living in SD, you get quite a few options for tacos but these were next level. The tortillas hand made, the meats perfectly marinated, the accoutrements balanced, and the presentation beautiful. The salsas were provided in the box and the flavors and heat were perfect. Honestly waited months for Artesano to return and this time brought 5 coworkers to the truck and each of them was just as impressed as well. I am so glad we had Carlos and his team from Artesano Taco do the catering at our wedding reception! It was everything we wanted and more: delicious food, great service, impeccable presentation. Did I mention everything was fresh and delicious? We got a basic taco package and requested veggies, carne asada, adobada, and pollo. This was for 75 guests. Carlos was very easy to communicate with and answered any and all questions. He met with us a month before the reception in preparation of the big day, and it all paid off. The day of the reception every guest was happy and well taken care of. The taco cart outside worked great for us. Carlos and his team do excellent work. They give off a very professional, artsy vibe in my opinion, and are down to earth. Great people to work with. One great thing is you can catch them on a Tuesday night outside Thorn Brewary in San Diego, CA to sample their tacos. Totally worth your time and money. Carlos is friendly, responsive and honest. I have been a huge fan of Carlos and his family-run operation for years, previously called Ytacote Catering. They make the world's best corn tortillas, and everything they do is made with love and care. I have hired them for baby showers, my sister's 40th birthday party, and other fun gatherings and they always knock it out of the park. Their Mexican street corn and authentic Mexican burritos are drool-worthy, and their tacos are hefty and filling. Artesano Taco also helped feed 50 homeless in December 2019, on a community project my neighborhood put on. Probably some of the best tacos I've had here in San Diego or in a very long time. Hand made tortillas were perfectly cooked and not too thick or too thin but just right. Had the adobada, chicken, asada, desebrada and the taco of the month and they were all absolutely delicious. So good that there was no time to take pictures of the tacos but did manage to snap a picture of the dessert.
