So glad to have found this place. Growing up in Southern San Diego, we had a taqueria at every street corner. Each one was cheap and delicious and greasy. Moving to Kearney Mesa, the Mexican food selection is severely lacking. Yeah there's Asian culture everywhere, between H-Mart, Tokyo Central, and Zion. There's a healthy amount of local breweries and burger shops. There is only so much sushi and ramen and Korean BBQ a man can eat. Something about a simple burrito feels homely, comforting. This place is a simple food truck with a permanent address: right next to the Societe Brewing Company. Walk up to a big touch-screen, order your food, process the payment yourself, and wait. Grab a beer, sit in your car, listen for a text message when your food is ready. Simple transactions, simple but good Mexican food. No need to interact with anyone, no need to fiddle with cash or tips or whatever. I've come back three times in three weeks and am eternally grateful that this place is here. My Cali was pretty solid, and came with guacamole without any extra charge which was nice. The salsas were pretty good, but I think I preferred the salsa verde. The red salsa wasn't as spicy as I hoped. Overall a good distribution, nice tortilla, and well-seasoned meat cooked on a flat top. My brother's surf & turf was similarly well-constructed. Chacho's Tacos is a taco truck next to Societe Brewing Company which works out well as you can eat their tacos while drinking beer in the Societe Brewing Company. The tacos were good and most were about $3.99 but I thought they were even small for a street taco. I tried the carne asada, carnitas, pollo adobado, and shrimp tacos and they were all good. For a secret menu item, order the loaded fries and ask them to sub out chips for the fries and you will get loaded nachos (which is not listed on the menu). I asked for the guacamole on the side and ordered a side of chips. The chips were warm and salted nicely. I love taco trucks, and the reviews were pretty good so I stopped in. Interesting location outside the Society Brewery off Clairemont Mesa Blvd. After greeting the Muchachos, I ordered a carnitas and a carne asada taco. Both were very tasty! They gave me one red salsa that had a very nice flavor. The cochinita is a must-try at Societe's resident food truck! Chacho's rendition of cochinita pibil is tender and vibrant with citrus, while also avoiding too much salt or acid. I've tried their cochinita as a quesadilla dish, which was delicious but quite messy, and definitely needs a fork and/or lots of napkins for the whopping amounts of sauce and filling. Overall, not a bad problem to have, but was a lot for paper plates to handle. Likewise, the cochinita fries are similarly delicious, with their thick-cut French fries soaking up the marinade. Better yet, I recommend a Tuesday taco night paired with a Societe beer, although I'm yet to even try the other proteins on the menu. Easy to order and tap-to-pay at the kiosk tablet, and I got a text promptly once my order was ready to pickup. Although I'm a huge fan of Societe and consider them one of the best breweries in San Diego, if not the country, I haven't been by the brewery for quite some time. As a San Diego native that sets a high bar for my Mexican food, I was skeptical that this place would stand out above some of my favorite haunts. After bringing me back a couple Surf & Turf tacos for me to try, I was immediately convinced. The carne asada was flavorful and tender, the shrimp was the perfect texture that many a 4-star seafood restaurant can't achieve, jack cheese was both crispy and melty, handmade moist corn tortillas, fresh quacamole and salsas that emphasize flavor over spice. Needless to say, I was a convert. I trekked over to Societe yesterday with my wife and daughter, both of whom have high standards, and we ordered the Surf & Turf and carne asada tacos. The surf and turf California burrito is one of the best burritos I've had in a long time. SO MUCH FLAVOR! there's lots of seasoning on the carne asada, the shrimp are super juicy, and they put the whole thing on the griddle after wrapping it up so the tortilla has a little bit of crispiness to it. I was a little bummed they didn't have cochinita pibil on the menu when I was there because I had read so much about it, but the carne asada was so good I quickly forgot about the cochinita. Ordering is also really easy, you place your order and pay on an iPad next to the truck, then you just put in your phone number and they text you when it's ready so you're not standing around for your food and you can go back to your table and enjoy your beer and your friends while you're waiting.
