Had to send back to get the cook the right temp. Very unevenly cooked upon return. We ate most of it. We ordered the chimi- verde sauce but it was basically olive oil. Black cod. It was ok, nothing special, no good sear or grill on the fish. No punch of flavor like you'd expect from a good cod. Unagi fried rice. This was the only dish we agreed we liked enough and it still had an interesting flavor, like mint. Kung Pao Brassicas. This was OK but again had interesting flavors (not kung poa) that were turning us away. Our server was super sweet but not very attentive, I think she perhaps was new to the industry. For example she didn't think to ask about two uneaten side dishes and if there was an issue. I think overall our tastes differ from the chef so this could've been amazing to them and others but unfortunately not for us. It wasn't cheap so a costly lesson for us but, when trying new spots that's the price you have to pay sometimes.

The owners are not Italian but my Italian partner was super super impressed by the homemade pasta and meals. They nailed it! Best Italian food. This stop is a must if you are in Bend! Service here is well-oiled. All hands make light work! Appreciated the flow! No one missed a beat! The only small annoyance, was the bartender did some upselling throughout the evening. In most cases, it feels sincere and totally appreciated, but not with this guy. A bit of a car salesmen approach=aggressive. No sincere feeling. But again this place operates with many hands on deck providing excellent service so I really tuned him out as best I could. I rarely complain when I visit restaurants as I try to do my due diligence before I go. I spoke with the waitress, manager and one other lady who came by to check on me. I was told they could bring me some more tomatoes, etc. However, the dish should have contained sufficient ingredients to warrant its description which it didn't. Pasta is one of the cheapest mainstays in the restaurant business, but The Open Door's pasta dish took this to a whole new low. As for the baguette, I was given four tiny half slices of bread and not a baguette. Between the food quality, service, value, and cleanliness issue, this visit fell well short of my expectations. I don't plan to return, and the sanitation issue was concerning enough that I intend to report it to the appropriate health department.
