I just picked up our eight-year-old labrador "Dozer"from Cascade Kennels after his second visit since finding them this year. We were recommended to Cascade Kennels by a community Facebook page after our dog had TPLO surgery on both knees a few months apart, and could no longer go to our previous boarding facility that is more of a free roaming style. Cascade Kennels is situated on a beautiful property with woods surrounding it, and each time I've been there, the facility has been exceptionally clean, and the staff has been helpful and friendly. I love that you can request reservations online as well as set up your dog's visit with any extras you might want to add on. Dozer was still within his 12 week postop recovery the first time he visited,and despite this, they were still able to accommodate him, as well as provide his medications as prescribed. Now that he has fully recovered, we opted to sign him up for a nature walk and some individual snuggle time. When I picked him up just now, he did not want to get into the car. It took a lot of convincing and coaxing with a treat to get him to leave. He was in an exceptionally happy mood, which makes me feel like he had a really great time. The receptionist let me know at checkout that they cleaned his ears and some goopy eyes a few times. I noticed that they did not charge me for this, for which I was very appreciative. Pricing is very transparent on their website, but please note that boarding rates do go up by a couple bucks in August. They are still on par with what you can expect to pay anywhere else, and you will add on additional services/snacks to their base rate if you so choose. We are so happy to have found our new boarding place. We appreciate the care and kindness showed towards our sometimes excitable dog. Dozer is looking forward to his next stay in July. read more

I want to preface this review with that I only got a tour of the facility, but that was enough for me to not want to send my dogs here. The kennel room was extremely loud, smelly, and was full of clearly nervous dogs. If it was loud and smelly to me, I can't imagine what it would be for dogs and their senses. I appreciated that they kept a log on each dog whether they ate that day or if they had been out to potty, but I found it appalling that you have to pay extra for your dog to be taken out of its cage for a "potty walk" and that the woman giving me the tour said that they actually prefer the dogs go potty inside their kennels. For dogs that are potty trained, this can be extremely confusing and could cause them to hold their potty for longer than necessary. I couldn't help but notice that the cages were right up next to each other, without any screens or blocking between the fencing in each, so really you're just asking for the dogs to be uncomfortable. Dogs need to sniff and interact with each other before they are shoved into a cage side by side. Not to mention that there was an insane amount of barking and howling, so I don't see how any dog could settle in or lay down in a cage in that environment. The playroom was large and clean, but hearing that they have 30 dogs to 1 person (sometimes 2 if they have enough staff) made my heart drop. If any dogs get into a fight, 1 person to 30 is not going to allow that fight to be broken up fast enough. It angers me that that you have to pay extra for things like potty breaks, but also cuddle time. Cuddle time would only be for 20 minutes in a separate room. I don't think 20 minutes is enough time for a dog to settle in or down enough in a new place, before needing to be put back in their cage. I feel like this was just a marketing tactic, because cuddle time sounds good on paper and would get people to pay for it, even though it really isn't much of a bonus for the dog. Overall, unfortunately, I think this is more of a money making business, not a caring for each individual dog and how they're feeling while they stay with you type of business. read more

After moving to Washington from the east coast, Cascade Kennels was recommended to me by a friend. My dog is very nervous around new people and other dogs and typically has not had the best time at boarding places back home. But after going to Cascade Kennels she's become a different dog for the better!! She absolutely loves coming here and when I pick her up from boarding she is so happy. At past boarding places she will bark at the staff when they close her kennel but that's not the case here! If you have a nervous pup like mine I highly recommend Cascade Kennels! I called and talked with Dawn and dropped my dog off for a 4 week board & train program. I knew this was an investment in my dog and would ultimately strengthen our bond. I just had no idea how true those words were. My dog learned so much. Dawn communicated with me via phone and text the whole time. I received photos of him and even got to visit and see what he was learning. It was obvious that he was receiving superior treatment and loved the trainers. I left a dog at the kennel that I didn't know how to communicate with; 4 weeks later I learned what they taught him and brought home my best friend. Our now 9 month puppy has been going to daycare services at Cascade Kennels intermittently for the last few months. He seems ecstatic every time we drop him off. I think the thing I love the most about Cascade Kennels is the fact that my dog has access to both indoor and outdoor play areas. When we have used other daycare options where the dogs are kept indoors the whole day, he always comes back reeking of urine and we end up having to give him a bath (which is not ideal). We noticed that Kona doesn't smell bad when he comes back from Cascade Kennels and my only guess is that it is because he gets to go outside when he wants to. The staff are always nice when I go there. Prices are much more reasonable than other locations. The only other considerations for people to think about are: 1) No webcam available - I know that is something other dog day cares offer and some people really want that (for me, I prefer my dog not smelling like pee and that is a higher priority for me) 2) I can just drop off Kona for day care and I don't need to make advance reservations, which can be tricky when schedules sometimes change last minute 3) The pick up and drop off times are a bit more restrictive. I believe the earliest time I can drop off is at 8am. It would be nice to be able to drop off earlier but if your work schedule is flexible this might not be an issue. They put dogs in kennels after 4pm so ideally, picking up earlier is better if you don't want to keep the dog in a kennel for a long period of time. read more

I have been using Cascade Kennels since I moved to the Seattle area two years ago and I am kicking myself that I am just now doing a review! I use Cascade specifically for boarding of my beloved basset hound Clementine when I travel, and as someone who has trust issues with their fur baby and the highest of standards when it comes to her care, I can confidently say I trust Cascade Kennels implicitly. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure my baby is taken care of as if she was at home, and is always so sweet with her and patient with me when I call to check on her! My dog is getting older unfortunately (why can't dogs live forever ) and even with her medicine and restrictions, there are no issues, she is always taken care of like mom would! We just boarded our lab for 8 days, and it was his first time we've ever left him. Cascade Kennels was the perfect spot to choose! The property is beautiful and resort-like, the staff is so warm, friendly and communicative. They have excellent "add-ons" to help make your pup more comfortable, feel at home and get the exercise and extra special treatment you would like, plus a delightful bathe/grooming you can select right before they come home to you. Place is way bigger than expected. Love that the cage sizes are big for your dogs, even the small ones. We had our dog stay here for 4 days and he loved it! Didn't even say bye to me when he was taken to the back. We did a walk in tour to see this place. Lots and lots of dogs. Cat living area is seperate. PROS: -Grooming avail(They did great on my shihtzu that had mats) -Easy drop off process -Paid attention to detail on dogs' medication -Lots of add on options to choose from such as cuddle time, outdoor walk, off leash dog park, etc. CON: -Called before to set another appt up and the lady seemed rude and unknowledgeable on how to check the schedule for availability. She told me to "hold on" like 4x ..Other female that helped me check in the first time I visited was on it! Maybe a bad day or new employee the 2nd time? -Wanted to book my pets for the holidays but apparently, they booked out a year in advance so plan ahead if possible. This review is for the board and train program specifically. Dawn is a fantastic trainer and will have your dog trained in a shockingly short amount of time. The real work will be for your dog to respond to you like it does to Dawn, which takes a ton of consistency on your part after the training program. I was nervous about corrective based training, but really it is corrective/praise based training. My dog really appreciates the structure and set of rules Dawn follows. It's of utmost importance that your dog can understand the rules and that it's fair, otherwise corrective training wouldn't work. Once your dog has learned the command, it will either go 1) command 2) verbal/physical praise OR 1) command 2) correction 3) praise. So your dog will always end on something positive. Ps. I have a very anxious dog. The structure really helped his anxiety out on walks and to follow what I say. This program will not be a fix all, but will give you a great foundation. You can/should continue working with Dawn after the program to tackle anything that comes up later. read more

TLDR: Allie is a wonderful trainer and knows her stuff. Facility is home away from home for your four legged creature. Reasonably priced for above and beyond care. Highly recommend if you need grooming, training, boarding, or all the above. Context: We have an aussie / St. Bernard mix who is nervous around strangers. We're leaving for our honeymoon and wanted to have him boarded while we're gone. However, we were stressed we couldn't find a place. Trainer: Allie alleviated our anxiety on several levels. Within the two hours we were having a consultation with her and our dog, I have never seen him take so quickly to someone. She's very knowledgeable and answered every questions and concerns we had. She was able to address areas where us and our dog needed to work out. Since he's still warming up to people and dogs, Allie assured us if he was boarded here it would not be an issue. They're great about limiting interactions with people if needed, while still providing care during their stay. She provided us with a step by step plan on how we should proceed for future training and overnight stays. Facility: Any pet owner who plans on boarding their pets should ALWAYS ask to tour a facility. Cascade Kennels is more than happy to let you see the place. On our tour we saw where the dogs reside, it was well ventilated and clean. The dogs have ample space to move around and hangout. Cascade is amazing. My pupper goes there for both daycare and boarding when we travel and she starts to get excited the second we turn into their driveway. And, when we get her out of the car, she starts to pull me to the door because she's so excited! The team there takes such good care of my dog (as evidenced by her excitement). She plays and gets nature walks and special treats during overnights and they give me a report about how she did after every visit. Yesterday, we picked up our two dogs from this kennel. They smelled like they had rolled around in horse manure. It was so bad that we immediately took them home for baths. Both dogs were exhausted and one still has an upset stomach. Tonight, we received a call, asking when we were going to pick up one of the dogs. As I mentioned, they were both picked up yesterday. Not sure what kind of treatment dogs receive, when they can't keep track of which dogs are even in their kennel. We only feel comfortable leaving our 6-1/2 year-old lab at Cascade Kennels. Ops Manager Kelly Keppel is exceptional at customer service & team management. Over six years we've left our Ellie for many weekend stays & longer trips, plus one 30-day extended stay with training. She always goes in comfortable, has no issues & a downright wonderful time (more exercise than at home!), and comes out the same happy pup. We booked our 2 dogs pretty last minute (3 weeks) as our regular house/pet sitter was ill. This was their first time being boarded while we were going out of town. Communication was good-we called a couple times to make sure we had submitted all their vet/vaccinations records needed, etc. We explained both the dogs are new to being boarded, that neither are really good with other dogs & that our female is a nervous Nellie. Unfortunately both the dogs ended up with kennel cough when they came home even with their vaccination and were so exhausted they slept almost constantly for 2-3 days. They were so stressed and wiped out-this may just not be the place for us unless it's a last resort. read more

I have taken my dog to Cascade Kennels every other month or so over the last 10 years. He's always happy to go, no whining or crying which tells me he enjoys going and is not fearful or upset. Some negative reviews are concerned with the facilities and potty protocols - all I can say is that while I was concerned at first it never created a problem or interfered with his potty training. This is a difficult story for me to tell and may require tissues, read on at your own risk. For 14 amazing years he was the world's best dog: happy, healthy, well trained, and loving. Then Boo got sick and was diagnosed with advanced throat cancer. I was very upset and concerned but there wasn't much that could be done. I put him on a special ketogenic diet program I cooked myself, we paid extra special attention to his hygiene, and tried to give him extra love and attention. Recognizing that he could pass at any time, whenever we had to travel I felt I was saying goodby for the last time when I dropped him off at the kennel. The staff at the kennel were amazing! They accommodated his special meals, keeping them refrigerated or frozen and then thawing/heating them on a specific schedule. They looked after him and gave me regular updates. It made a huge difference to me that they were taking such good care of him while I was traveling. Lessening my guilt and giving me peace of mind that he was comfortable and getting great care. In part due to this great care he stayed with us and kept welcoming me back home. Last month I was on a weeklong trip and got a call that Boo had taken a turn for the worse. I knew he had been struggling and felt terrible when I dropped him off knowing it could be the last time I saw him. Kelly let me know that he was having increased difficulty breathing and seemed even more lethargic than he had been. It was terrible news but I felt so much better when she sent me text updates with pictures of him and let me know that she was giving him extra cuddles and keeping a close eye on him. The next day I got the call that Boo had gotten worse and he was at the vet. Having never had to make the decision before on putting an animal to sleep, I was upset and uncertain: intensive medical intervention with limited chance for success, keep him alive as long as possible or at least until I returned, or put him to sleep. After extensive support and consultation with Kelly, the vet, and the Kennel owner who took the time to call me directly and give me some coaching: we decided the time was right to let Boo rest. It was a tough, heart wrenching decision and is still upsetting to think about as there was no great choice. They offered to do most anything in reason and above the call of duty to help me and Boo at this difficult moment. Special meal, joy ride, support him until I returned, and most of all talking and supporting me through this difficult choice. Kelly stayed with him at the vet and during his final moments. The reason I share all this background is both to thank Kelly, the staff, and owners of Cascade Kennel but to highlight that there is no faking it here - no possible way they would have gone to this extreme for Boo and for me if they didn't truly love the animals under their care. read more

I have boarded my Chihuahuas here for years. After today, I will never board them anywhere else. I would like to make the strongest possible recommendation for Cascade Kennels. Today, in the middle of a baseball game while we are down here in Phoenix, I got a call from Kelly at Cascade Kennels to let me know that she had taken my Chihuahua, Mia, to the vet because an eye abrasion she had looked much worse. Not only did Kelly take her to the vet without hesitation, but she also stayed with Mia during the afternoon, holding and comforting her, while the vet, ophthalmologist, and I made a series of cross-country phone calls to decide on the best course of action. It was decided that Mia needed emergency surgery. So Kelly took Mia to the emergency hospital, checked her in, and continued to stay with her until she could be medicated to the point where she could relax and await surgery. Kelly sent me photos of Mia, as well as photos of Mia's brother, Raul, back at the kennel, letting me know they are both OK and in good hands. It's so hard to be far away from my little girl while she goes through all this, but I know she is getting terrific care at the Animal Emergency Hospital in downtown Redmond and that she was snuggled and reassured all day by Kelly, who went above and beyond to care for Mia today. I have been coming here the past week with my beautiful foster dog Bella, she has a torn ACL and is on seizure medication. I was unable to keep her at my apartment due to stairs. I have boarded my dogs here twice now. The first time, my older dog came back with kennel cough. Also, both dogs are on different foods and they fed them the same food even though both foods were labeled with names. The second time, my older dog got kennel cough AGAIN and my younger dog came home with vomiting and diarrhea. No one told me about the coughing even though I had called everyday. They told me my younger dog had some soft stool but was okay now. 3 vet visits later and I will not be using this place again. They do offer amenities that other places don't but it's not worth it with how sick my dogs got. read more

Cascade Kennels get a two star rating from me because it's really been a hit-or-miss experience. Good news: They have taken care of our animal while we are away without extreme incident. Some of the staff is nice. Bad news: Communication. We scheduled an overnight stay and a doggie daycare evaluation. When we came to pick the dog up we were told (verbatim): "Your dog attacked another dog." by one of the front desk staff. (the large woman who works in the mornings. Her name escapes me.) When I asked for details she actually became defensive and said, "I saw it. it happen. She attacked and pinned a sweet puppy." Of course I was upset. My dog has been to other day camps in the past ever since she was a puppy and always without incident. I tried to find out more information but she had nothing to give. She said: "The head trainer should have called you." When I told her that NO ONE had contacted me at all concerning this she said: "Well, she should have." No information was given, no additional help or suggestions for where to take our girl and suddenly a dog that lives with another dog and a cat has become "dog aggressive". The did waive the fee, which was appreciated but the way this was actually handled was beyond poor. The desk clerk was quick to point out: "Sometimes dogs just don't get along." This is totally true. I would like to point out at this moment that I clearly understand it was not necessarily the day camp's fault nor necessarily the trainer's fault that my dog pinned another dog. Could my dog have issues? Absolutely. Should someone have been watching her body language and separated them before she pinned the dog? In an ideal world, probably. (Just for reference she nor the other dog was hurt at all- no scratches, no injuries) The issue here is not WHAT HAPPENED it IS that no one contacted us, no one talked to us and there was utterly no further assistance- even when asked. I flipped through my phone and found the head trainer's (Maggie) phone number called her directly on her cell phone and told her about my dog not having issues in the past and not being able to get information from the front desk staff about what happened. She informed me that the front desk staff should have called me in on exactly what went one. Awesome. One person says the trainer should have called and the trainer says the front desk should have called. No one knows what is going on. The head trainer was definitely more sympathetic, told me EXACTLY what had happened and gave me the number of someone who she felt could better handle my dog. We have been going to another training facility with tremendous success. The head trainer was fantastic to refer us to someone not at their facility. I love the new trainer and I love the difference in my dog. I could not be happier with the other facility. I am writing this review because we chose to give Cascade Kennels one more chance and boarded both dogs over the weekend. Again the lovely blonde girl (Kelly, I believe. She is FANTASTIC.) who works the afternoons was an utter delight. However, when we went in to pick up the dogs in the morning the same "communication issue" woman was working and it was incredibly uncomfortable. I still can't remember her name because, frankly, I would like to forget her. I think she is attempting to be more personable but given the history and the circumstances our interaction has strange judgmental undertones. It was very irritating and I won't deal with her again. We're not children. We're not idiots and, yes, we exercise our dogs. Thanks. We obviously care about our animals and make every effort to help them with whatever issues they have and coming into contact with someone who is condescending about our efforts is..... well, it's just not worth paying 'top dog boarding dollars' to deal with her every time I board my animals. There are so many facilities in the area for boarding I don't think we'll be back to Cascade Kennels. It's certainly a mixed bag. I really did like most of the services but when it comes to communication they utterly failed us. Additionally: The first time we boarded, we scheduled walks for our dogs while they were boarded at Cascade Kennels. Our smaller dog came back leash shy. He wouldn't walk with us and it took forever for us to gain his trust back. I don't know what happened, I was not given any information. (shocking, I know) Chihuahuas are notoriously sensitive and I understand that. All I know is that his behavior was VASTLY different from before we left to when we returned and it require a lot of work to get him back to being comfortable on the leash. The second time we boarded him I made it clear that he should not be taken out or walked on a leash at all- not with our other dog or on his own. We have used Cascade Kennel in past w/o incident. However,our dog contracted kennel cough in her most recent stay. It's highly contagious and I appreciate that there's are limits to what can be done to prevent transmission. However, it was immediately obvious on the ride home that our dog was infected. Cascade Kennel either chose to ignore this fact on pick up -- they told us everything went well -- or they weren't paying very close attention even though we paid a premium to have daily and individualized playtime with our dog (individualized -- ironically -- to minimize the chances of our dog contracting a disease from another dog). Upon being diagnosed by our vet, we e-mailed Cascade Kennel to let them know the situation. It took a few days for us to receive an unapologetic response, with no offer to help compensate us for our veterinarian bills. Overall, I'm disappointed with how Cascade Kennels handled the situation and suffice it to say we won't be using them again. The truest sense of good service is how a business responds when things don't go well, and Cascade Kennels failed in this regard. read more

We won't be back. -Facility: lovely exterior, seems clean -Reception staff: hurried, abrupt, unengaged -@ pick up: dog anxious/jittery w/ large sores on elbows as if she had spent her days lying on the concrete. (Probably her choice, as I had provided her pet bed, but some information about her stay or even an acknowledgment of her condition would have eased my concerns a bit.) My dog does tend to be anxious in new situations but we have had good experiences elsewhere, which tells me that she was not happy here. Horrible experience here. You have to pay for walks for your dogs, if you dont they are expected to relieve themselves within their own kennels. Dogs are caged next to each other like a jail cell. When i went to pick up my dog he was shaky, freaking out and i could tell something was up. I boarded my dog at Cascade Kennel over a long weekend, for five days. The first time I visited Cascade Kennel I went to tour, and look around. A nice young man took me on the tour, and answered any of my questions. He was friendly, and knowledgable. He made sure to show me all the areas I was interested in, and wanted to know more about my dogs specific needs. The facility was clean, the staff members were friendly, and I was really happy. I like that they separate dogs by size. The second time I dropped by with my dog to get her familiar with driving there, and to drop of medical records. Again, all staff members were friendly! The third and fourth times were to drop off/pick up my dog. They reassured me that she was going to be fine (my first time dropping my dog off at a kenel) and everyone was calm and lovely. They even offered to help me with her stuff out to the car when we left! My dog was so happy to see me but also calm, I can tell from her temperament that she had a good time. In addition - I called several times to check on my love, and each time they reassured me. They went as far as going to check on her the first day, and gave me a report back as to what she was doing at that moment. I would easily recommend this place to any if my friends, and if I need to board my dog again you betcha she is going back to Cascade Kennel! read more

Our nervous golden border collie mix loves Cascade Kennels and is always happy to return. He is a smart one in that he puts the brakes on every time we approach the door to the vet but never here. He is happy to see us when we pick him up but I can also tell that he trusts them and for a nervous rescue dog, this means a lot. My 5 year Golden Retriever just had a very stressful grooming experience. They mixed her up with another dog. Dropped her off at 8:45 amand said her name clearly to the receptionist. Called them at noon to find out how she was doing. They said she would be ready at 2:30pm. When I walked in at 3:30pm, she was still on the table, panting terribly with a swollen tongue. Other dogs had checked in after her and had already been picked up. The manager apologized saying they had mixed her up with another dog. Needless to say, we won't ever go back. read more

I recently boarded my sweet 13 yr old English Springer Spaniel, Big Mac here and I am amazed. I was a little worried about leaving an older dog, because you just never know when that final day will come. After reading the other reviews and touring the place, I felt comfortable giving this place a try. I also had Big Mac groomed before picking him up and the grooming was excellent. Still using this place...even though we moved four hours away. They're the only people we trust. Our animals literally sulk when they have to come back home with us lol. When our worst nightmare happened last summer and one of our girls got sick very suddenly and passed away (completely unrelated to her stay there) they provided incredible care, monitoring and compassion for both her and us, kept checking in,preserved her and made her a pretty little box I still have somewhere. They go utterly above and beyond. I recommended everyone I know to come here, especially friends that are scared to leave their elderly pets. These people truly love animals. It's awesome to know there's access to a vet too unlike a lot of similar facilities. They also have rodents and reptiles in separate rooms which I greatly appreciate and no worry-some drafts for those of you with birds/rats. read more
