Evidently this building used to house a bank and the huge safe is still there against the back right wall. The day I was there, they had several pieces of wood furniture with a live edge, which I love. There was the most amazing high top table - if only I had that kind of money! Also some console tables and a coffee table. All spectacular. Bright glassware, dishes, vases and sculptures also caught my eye as did the pretty pieces of pottery, all displayed in lucite cases and in tables allowing it to be seen. Lots of paintings on the wall and on the partitions. And some enlarged photographs, too, by Brian Chambers. His pictures of the wildflowers with the Gorge in the background are breathtaking! And very affordable for the artistry. Definitely fun to browse and see if something catches your eye that you just have to have! The gentleman working that day was friendly, helpful and in no way pressuring. He let me browse at my leisure and provided answers to my questions. I will check back from time to time as I am seeking a piece of art and have something in mind. I'll know it when I see it!

I really like community art centers, especially when I have a chance to sample a wide variety of styles that local artists offer. The selection here is interesting, the quality is high, and the prices are very reasonable. I was also lucky to come in during their "seconds" sale and came away with a nicely glazed collection plate. I also enjoyed a nice chat with the friendly folks here, and hope that I will pass this way again.

The historical society is pretty impressive for a smallish town based a lot on being the gateway to My. Hood. It is a structure that looks a lot like a 19th century farmhouses and was built with very generous community donations of time and money. The volunteer staff is rightfully proud of this beautiful structure. The historical society offers free admission seven days a week. They do have a gift shop with some beautifully made crafts. I bought a a sweet quilted picture of a house. The staff members were very interested in us and our family histories. I particularly enjoyed their exhibits on logging as my my dad was a logger in Tillamook before he and my mom married. I also loved their exhibi on spring and summer clothing in the 1920s. Like I told the manager really well-designed and made clothing never really goes out of style. Ron got photocopies of some archival photos of some of the land he lived on with his parents when they first moved up from Los Angeles in the mid-1960s. He was thrilled. I'm impressed with the Sandy Historical Society. I really recommend their services should you ever need to use them.

Another booth was selling huckleberry jam, and I inquired if they had sugar-free jam, and the lady checked, and handed me two jars that are fruit sweetened. I bought both of them & brought them home to Oklahoma to enjoy. As the label suggests, "An exceptional treat , the best berries in the world from the Pacific Northwest". Bingen is a small town, but they put on a fun festival. If there was more products featuring or made from huckleberries, I'm sure they would sell well, especially sugar-free items. Located right off of Highway 30, there is plenty of parking. No admission to visit. Just $10 to clip yourself a bouquet, they provided the clippers. There is a charming farm store where you can buy various lavender products like essential oils and soaps and lavender themed gifts. They even provide blankets and umbrellas to borrow for those wishing to sit in the fields for a picnic. Don't worry, the bees won't bother you. They are busy doing their bee thing; pollinating is way more important than you! Lots of white Adirondack chairs amongst the lavender for those photo ops! The Columbia Gorge Crepes food truck is there serving delicious and hearty sweet and savory crepes. There are plenty of picnic tables in the shade to enjoy the crepes or a picnic you brought from home. Visit before the word gets out about this hidden gem! Of course you have the stunning view of Mt. Hood in the background, and we were lucky enough for it to be clear on our wedding day, but even on an off day if you can't see the mountain, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and so well maintained that you won't be disappointed. Most of our guests were from out of town and we got so many compliments about it being the most amazing venue they had ever been to. In fact, it took a while to get the dance floor going because people were spending so much time admiring the view and taking pictures! Starting your wedding planning journey can be so confusing and oftentimes frustrating, and finding a venue is where it really starts. Gorge Crest made the process as simple as possible, offering a full, REALISTIC event quote (including things like catering, DJ, etc.) and providing a list of mandatory vendor options. While some may find this limiting, we were pleased to know that they had vetted vendors and were so happy with everyone they recommended. Jena was always quick to respond and worked with us on our requests, including extra time in the Grooms room and letting us leave a car overnight to pack up our decorations in. The only issue we ran into was getting recurring invoices in our email that weren't meant for us... I would just recommend staying on top of what you owe them and know that you may need to remind them that they have made a mistake. Best wishes to anyone who chooses to get married here. Soooo many signs don't do this can't do that, can't touch fruit, can't go outside in the garden without purchasing something (???), no pets allowed, no samples, etc etc... sheesh!
