While it was definitely expensive to make this emergency visit, it was 100% worth it to come to this location. We literally walked in without an appointment as our Shiba had ingested some cherry laurel berries from a neighbor's tree. She was wobbly and threw up so we knew it was urgent. Dr Harley Johnson and her team were wonderful. She even took extra time to research and confirm we had the right plant and wanted to ensure we didn't take any unnecessary steps or incur any charges we didn't need. I have visited this animal hospital and ER for a pet surgery as well as several urgent/ER visits. The staff have always been so helpful, efficient and very kind but informative. The place is calm and inviting. We have always been shown to a private room to meet with staff and able to wait there or in the waiting room. The doctors demonstrated high competency and were able to easily lay out our options for treatment so we could decide what we would like to do for our pet. I, unfortunately, have recently had to put my 2 oldest cats down. These things, of course, happen over the weekends, etc., when my regular vet is not available. I found the entire staff very supportive and helpful. In both cases, there really wasn't anything to be done, both cats were elderly and sick, and I knew I was bringing them in for the last time. I really appreciated the staff and the vet's care, one cat had end stage renal disease, and the vet was very informative and caring about what his labs meant, etc. They have a very nice room set aside for those who are saying goodbye to their pets. I realize my experience doesn't have anything to do with acute problems in younger animals that may need surgery, etc., but I was impressed with the compassion and with the speed in which they took care of both of my cats when we were experiencing end of life choices. read more

Came in on 12/4/25 and had the absolute WORST experience! Our 17 y/o senior cat, had a very rapid heart rate so we brought him in. He had cancer and a thyroid issue, so he was about 5 lbs and just an old guy but he was going through something different on that night. We knew that there was a very strong possibility that we would not be going home with him, but what we encountered at CVRC was completely unprofessional! The vet tech on duty, came out, took one look at him and scooped him up and while practically running and screaming at me "if I have to put him down, do I have your permission"? This was said three times while she was standing down the hall. My kids were outside because they were having a hard time dealing with this, so I told the vet tech "NO! I need one minute to get my kids". She said we don't have one minute. He's old, obviously something was wrong with him that night, and he had some illnesses. It was his time.......she couldn't give my family ONE MINUTE so that we could gather everyone, who mind you, were right out side? Next thing I know she's gone....with our cat. I told the front desk that I want my cat back!! She called the vet tech to bring him back up. While I was putting him in his carrier to go somewhere else that would treat ALL OF US more humanely, she gave me an earful. While I understand he was in dire need of medical attention, he was 17 y/o, with a thyroid issue and lymphoma. We knew we were going to have to euthanize, but there was NO WAY I was going to let them do it and not without my kids in the room to say goodbye! The vet tech made an already stressful situation extremely difficult. She was cold, unprofessional, heartless, and had no emotion. I would have had severe regrets if I would have had to humanely euthanize him there. Instead, my gut told me to take him somewhere else, so we drove him to the Emergency Vet Clinic of Tualatin, where we were me with kindness, and the time to properly say goodbye to our beloved pet. I would highly recommend the Emergency Vet Clinic of Tualatin. We were able to sit with him for an extended amount of time and they were so compassionate. My dog and kitty got into a tussle tonight. Nothing out of the ordinary but the kitty got tied up in the dining room table and had a swollen leg and paw.. being a helicopter pet owner I rushed in. The vet and tech were with me within 20 minutes. They told me he was likely okay and they didn't see any issue but I could approve x-rays if I wanted. For peace of mind, I chose to move forward. Was it expensive? Yes! But they are working overnight and have to go to years of school to be qualified to take care of our pets. It was worth every penny. They were attentive, communicative and even prescribed extra pain meds over the next 3 days to make sure he was comfortable. This was my first time here and, hands down, the best experience I have ever had at an after hours emergency vet. Our dog had a painful leg issue and we were referred here from our vet. We are pleased with the result. Remember this is an emergency vet clinic. They are focused on care and sometimes aren't the best, proactive communicators. But they seem to get it right. When we showed up we were told they would take our dog and give us a treatment plan within 2-4 hours but couldn't commit because if animals with more urgent needs come in then that is the priority. We got the call in 4.5 hours. The vet was very clinical and talked kind of jargony, and didn't have X-rays from our primary vet. Even tho we arranged to send them over. The treatment was blood work and xray. Something our primary vet had done but we understood that if they are going to make a diagnosis they are going to want to do the work on their own. Was told that it would take 3-4 hours but we could go home. It took six hours. On that call the vet was very thorough, patient and understanding. We talked about pros and cons and agreed on a treatment plan. Our dog is better and that's a good thing. The clinic staff upon arrival were very good and professional. Word to the wise. It's expensive. It can seem chaotic. It can seem insensitive, but we believe they were thorough (one of the reasons for the xtra time) and they understand our dog is more than a pet. I called and spoke to the receptionist regarding bringing in my 12 test old Standard Poodles with a mouth lesion. She informed me that the exam process is that they take your dog back to 1 exam room used for all triage. Only after that do they present a treatment plan and you MAY speak with the veterinarian. You may not be with the animal for any part of exam or treatment. After 38 years of practicing medicine i can state there is not easy a sick animal will be easier to examine without their caregiver present. My Mom and I brought our very sick little doggy here after he got in to some chicken bones in the trash a couple days prior. Our family vet suggested we bring him here as he was having some issues (at least what I thought) breathing, and was vomiting, and not himself. He looked so sad and would just lay there. They rushed out and got him and brought him in. Turns out his pancreas was very enlarged and he was in so much pain. They had to give him IV fluids, and pain meds, he was in the hospital for 2 days. The Vet called every time something happened, or if they had to change the care they were giving him, The Vet was so kind on the phone as well, she had such a calming voice. After two stressful days, my Baby is home chasing squirrels and bothering his Kitty sister. Thank you so so much, from the bottom of my heart!! read more

Our cat Andy had a fibrosarcoma on his hind leg, and we have been having a very tough time getting him scheduled anywhere to get the urgent surgery he needed. When I contacted Cascade, the referral coordinator Sarah was incredibly kind, understanding and accommodating, and got him scheduled for surgery in 3 days. Cascade made a very detailed plan to address everything needed for surgery, and to keep Andy comfortable during his stay. Doctors Nyboer and Spall were both extremely professional, thorough, and kind (I didn't get to talk to Andy's nurse but I could tell he was very well cared for during his stay) . I believe the doctors and the staff truly care about the wellbeing of the animals there, as the doctors even donated their time for Andy's hospitalization. Andy has been in so much pain from the fibrosarcoma since its sudden onset but he is home now and he is his happy self! He is eating and acting like he used to before the tumor set in. I couldn't be happier with the treatment Andy received, and Cascade essentially gave him a second lease on life. read more

It was a long night and a long wait to talk to a doctor, but our pet was well taken care of. I can't ding them for the wait only 2 hospitals were accepting emergency patients. Improvement suggestion would be to triage the pet to determine if they are critical and give an estimated/updated wait time. If they are stable allow them to wait with owner. Additionally it would be to prove funds of payment upfront, sign the CPR consent and let the pet parent leave. We ended up staying to 11:30 only to go home and pick our pet up in the morning. We knew he would need sedation and wound care. Lastly, our doctor was running the clinic solo and had a lot of patients. Our pet was treated and released and I didn't feel like I was over charged. The fourth time I called back and asked for him, I had the Hospital Manager tell me, and I quote "He does not want to see your pet". My jaw was on the floor. They refused to help at that point and could only tell me to call DoveLewis. Then, after confronting the doctor over that ridiculous suggestion, I was hung up on. Looking at other reviews, this appears to not be the first time they have hung up on a customer. Terribly shady, unprofessional, immature, and most importantly- neglectful towards your loving animal. We had to put our dog down last week, which is a horrible, painful experience to say the least. The people at CVRC had very little compassion during the process. I called a few days later to speak with a supervisor about how we were treated, and was told to send an email. I emailed and said I would like to speak with the manager about a few things, left my #, and 4 days later have not gotten a call or an email back. Way to go, Cascade, you've just made a very bad situation much worse. Among several quite un-compassionate things that day, here is one: the vet had come to talk with us about our options, one of which was "stop treatment," which my husband and I both knew that meant putting the dog down. We were put in a room, told to discuss it, and when we made a decision, ask the front desk to call the vet again so that a plan could be discussed. My husband and I came out of the room in full tears, having just chosen to stop treatment and ask for the vet. The front desk guy tells us she is not available and asks us the have a seat. About 3 minutes later, the front desk guy yells from his computer at us...."so did you guys choose to treat or EUTHANIZE?!?!" As cavalier as if he is ordering a pizza. My jaw dropped, couldn't even answer right away. Seeing I was in distress, the front desk guy says "cuz they're gonna ask me." My poor husband had to yell back "we are going to euthanize" which made me feel sick. The vet never came back out to speak with us. Next thing we know, we are put in a room with our dog, and the the next time we see the vet, she has the death drugs in her hands. There were several other missteps that which show a total lack of compassion during our difficult time, I just chose to tell the most egregious here. read more

Late night, my cat looked like he was in a lot of pain, being a helicopter mama of a senior cat, we needed emergency vet care. I found this place nearby and gave them a call. We arrived around 11pm and called to check-in (COVID protocol), someone immediately came out to receive him. Even though we interacted with someone different when we arrived vs. when I called at home, they were already familiar with the situation. They said there were several animals ahead of us so expect a wait. About 1.5 hours later, we receive a call from the vet. He was so patient and answered all our questions, no instance where I felt he was rushing to hang up. We gave him consent to shave our cat (which looked hilarious and they did a great job shaving his chest/belly) and sent us home with a steroid spray for what turned out to be a rash. During the 2nd call when the vet explained he found a skin irritation under the fur, there were no instances where I felt judged for bringing my cat to emergency for a painful rash. Nor did I feel judged for asking helicopter cat mama questions such as thinking his heart rate or breathing were shallow. They sent over the medical exam records to our regular vet (which I know they did because our vet called). The exam fee was only about $20 more than my regular vet. - I was shocked to see that it was $95 when I was expecting it to be at least $120. I was extremely happy with this place and would recommend anyone with a pet emergency to trust this place. read more

I'm grateful that Cascade was able to get me in right away but don't think I'll be back unless it's an emergency where I have no other choice. My first complaint is that they do not allow you to accompany your pet while they're being treated....which makes the experience that much more traumatic for your pet. Next, their billing is so sketchy....when they quoted me, they just gave me a final total without breaking down all the costs (unlike any other vet I've been to who goes through every cost thoroughly and honestly). they only brought me an itemized receipt when I asked for it and saw a "misc charge" for $150 for any possible charges that could come up...like they want to charge you before you even approve it?? and I had to pay for an additional poison control consultation which I already paid for when I called them before I got to Cascade. It just feels dishonest and like they're trying to screw your over as your pet is in an emergency situation. read more

We had to lay our beloved Reyna to rest Sunday. We had her at Cascade once before when we thought it was the end. On Sunday when we again thought that was the end, we tried several times to call Cascade. No one answered. We went there anyway. Taking your dying friend to their resting place is heart breaking. We got there to find out they had, due to unforeseen circumstances, not been able to open that day. I totally understand that things happen in life. i am not upset about that. I am, however, very upset that they would not have the courtesy to leave an outgoing message telling me they were closed. read more

It's tough to talk about a Pet that you've taken to an Emergency Care Facility, and eventually lost. * Cascade Veterinary Center provided immediate, walk-in care, and concern, for our 20+ year old animal. * They listened carefully to the symptom description. And spent time evaluating and treating the animal. * Then came the tough part: the 1:1 discussion and assessment. I'd heard the statements before, so I knew what was coming. * The Veterinarian was both clinical and compassionate. She recognized the long life the animal had lived, and the emotion that we felt; both as companions and protectors in the animal's (and ours) life journey. * She gave us options. And let us decide. But it was clear that the animal's kidneys had failed. And he was holding on . . . Is it selfish to keep a pet/animal alive because you as an owner want it to be with you? // I don't know. But I asked myself this question 100 times on the way to the Cascade Center. And 1000 times in the waiting room. Bottom line: The folks at Cascade were professional. They understood the situation. Their immediate focus on the animal's welfare was solid. And they were compassionate. I would take our pets/animals there in the future. read more

I had a hellish experience taking my little chihuahua to Cascade Veterinary emergency. My dog appeared to be having seizures and was exhibiting pain. We took her in on Thursday eve. A week before thanksgiving. They told us she had the classic symptoms of a dog who'd eaten marijuana. I kept telling them I did not believe this because she's a very pick eater and would never touch anything unknown. They charged me 200.00 and told me she'd sleep it off. Of course she was much worse the next day and we took her back. This time they did very little and she stayed overnight wherein they're charged me 1800 more dollars and returned us a dog with a bevy of pain meds that didn't work and the dog suffered eight days of pure agony til we could see our vet Monday morning. I think these places don't care at all about the comfort and safety of the animal. i called twice to let them know how much she continued to suffer over the thanksgiving holidays . I was afraid to take her back because of the huge amount of money I'd been charged for NOTHING!!! I am a senior on social security and 2,000 is more than I can afford to just lose. They refuse to reimburse me for any of it! I was apoplectic! By the way, her own vet started her on anti inflammatory meds immediately and she was a different dog! 10 days of wrenching pain in a tiny baby girl. Cascade Veterinary Referral markets themselves as a specialized hospital for emergency and complex veterinary cases. However, for our dog, their care fell far below the standard expected from any veterinary. Their lack of knowledge and sub-standard care resulted in days of suffering for our dog and days of emotional anguish for us as we watched our sweet boy suffer. Cascade didn't conduct the necessary tests to fully diagnose his condition. They assured us he didn't have cancer and that he had a chance for recovery, if we admitted him to their care. When we asked, they said he was not in pain and gave him no pain medicine. After 3 days at Cascade, his condition had not improved and we moved him to another veterinary hospital. It took the other veterinary hospital only 3 hours to diagnose his cancer and that he was bleeding internally around his heart, his lungs, and into his stomach. Not only did he have no chance of recovery, he was in severe pain. They seemed shocked that we were not told euthanasia was the only humane thing to do. We are racked with guilt that we trusted Cascade so completely, that we didn't push harder for pain treatment or question the thoroughness of their testing. We are not medical professionals, but we felt something wasn't adding up and we should have trusted our guts. Cascade charged us thousands of dollars for their services- charges that should never have occurred as our poor boy never had a chance at recovery. It feels like we're being asked to pay them for making him suffer. We asked Cascade to review the charges and treatment provided. After being told they were reviewing, we never heard from them again and they won't return our calls. We are heartbroken at the loss of our sweet dog and have to live with knowing his last days were full of pain and that if we had taken him anywhere but Cascade, he would have peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge without additional suffering. Spare yourselves and your pets and take them anywhere else. read more

I brought my dog in for a dog bite. I called Cascade immediately to let them know that my dog had gotten bitten and that I was going to bring her in. They did tell me initially that it could be a three hour long wait. I brought her in anyways. A technician came out to look at my dogs ear and said she will need stitches. They told me to wait in the parking lot. Someone came out to take my dog back. As I'm walking with my dog and this vet tech to the door they tell me that it's going to be an eight hour long wait and that I'm going to have to sit inside of the parking lot and not leave until she is seen by the doctor and I get a call. I see someone else's review from two months ago they dealt with the same situation. Telling the parents of the pet that they had to wait in the parking lot. Well they waited until 11 o'clock in the evening and had to leave anyways because their dog needed to stay overnight. So Cascade strong them along and told them that they had to wait even though they were going to have to go home anyways. This tech looked me straight in the face and told me that " This is the point where people would abandon their pets. So that's why we have to have people wait in the parking lot. " I am a responsible dog owner I have insurance on my pets, I always have them vaccinated. And I do not appreciate being told that this is because I could abandon my pet also. I think it would be wise that this policy changes. This business should take down a person's drivers license, proof of payment prior to them taking in their pet. Some type of collateral. I think it's ridiculous that we have all this technology nowadays, and all the means to be able to show you that we can pay for our pets care,and that we will not abandon them. I also feel that the staff was being dishonest with me. I was waiting in the parking lot with one other pet parent. I do not see how there could've been so many injured pets inside that were needing attention right then and there, that would mean that I would have to wait eight hours. Long story short I ended up taking my dog and leaving. I ended up making an appointment for the next day for her to see her regular veterinarian. I shared with my regular veterinarian the issues that I dealt with last night trying to get her in to get care after they had recommended me going to Cascade. They were astonished by this policy and said that it was ridiculous that a parent would have to wait in the parking lot and was not able to leave the parking lot. I was able to treat her wounds myself for the night and she was seen swiftly this morning by my family veterinarian. I just spoke on the phone with Jennifer from Cascade regarding this incident and she insured me that this was not a decision or a policy that she put in place but someone higher up than her. Well to this person higher up than Jennifer I would really hope that you could put some new policies in place so that pet parents are not waiting in your parking lot overnight. It doesn't seem appropriate or needed. I had so many means for anyone at your facility to reach me on my cell phone my husband cell phone or even my work phone. I would never leave my dog high and dry. She means the world to me and it breaks my heart that in a time of emergency vet tech would look me in the eyes and tell me that this is because people abandon their pets. read more
