Louie Cascar helped me out big when I messed up thread on a blank hole in my car's suspension knuckle. Brought it to him on a Saturday - he is one of the few if any machine shops open on Saturdays - and he had it fixed for me on Monday. Saved having to buy a whole new knuckle. Part fit and worked perfectly. Has Saturday hours (even if he can't have your part fixed same day at least he is available to look at it and tell you if he can fix it so you can move forward with your work). Prices extremely reasonable. Friendly and straight up. read more

I dropped off my FE 390 short block to be rebuilt at Cascar Motorsports in October of 2022. After communicating with Louie and Will, I was told the turnaround time would be 3-4 weeks. However, it took them over 6 months to complete my engine. When I finally installed the engine, I found that there was no compression in all 8 cylinders. I towed the vehicle back to Cascar and gave Will and Louie the opportunity to fix the issue. For two months, I checked in daily, driving to the shop, but little to no work was completed. In August, Louie assured me the motor had compression, so I picked it up, only to find out once again that it had none. I gave Will and Louie every opportunity to rectify the situation, but time and time again, they lied, failed, and disappointed. Eventually, I discovered that the issue was due to the rings being installed incorrectly. The incompetence at Cascar runs rampant. It's a joke that they still open their doors given their lack of integrity and basic mechanical abilities. My experience with Cascar resulted in losses of thousands of dollars and countless hours just trying to get them to do the job I paid them to do. I am not the only one who has had such an experience with Cascar, and I hope I am the last as this business hopefully cannot stay open much longer. read more

I've used Cascar for years Louie has always done right by me so I was surprised when after assembling my engine I had an issue. Turns out when I dropped my heads off to have them gone through I also dropped off my .600 max lift springs. Cascar never installed my springs so I ran stock springs on a high lift cam IT DESTROYED MY ENGINE. I showed the resulting damage to Louie and Will, who remembered me dropping off springs, only after me explaining to them about coil bind did they except responsibility and said they will replace cam ,lifters. I have waited three weeks and still no replacements. So am left buying all the parts myself AGAIN having Parrish Machine shop complete my heads and will end up in small claims court to reimburse me. My father in law has been using these guys for years, so I tried em out to have my flywheel resurfaced. I dropped it off at the very end of the day on Friday and Mike was extremely friendly and helpful, he said it would take about an hour to do but they wouldn't get to it till the next day, which I had already assumed since they were closing in like 20minutes. Wasn't even a half an hour after they opened the next morning and they had already called me to tell me it was ready. 10/10 recommend them and will continue using them. read more

Really... you answer the phone "what"? THIS is what we've come to in this society? I ask the guy who answers the phone if they do cylinder heads and he just says "what" again. So I repeat the question, since I'm speaking English but maybe a bad connection giving him the benefit they have someone answering the phone who can say more than "what". Then he says comically... "what" a THIRD TIME!!! So I say... "what"? See NOW it's infectious. HE FINALLY breaks from the one word response and says rudely to give him all the info which at that point I'm not giving this business a single dime when in my opinion there are better shops in much better neighborhoods. Bro man if you hate your job then find a new one. If you having other issues I can't help you with advice, but what I can say is judging by your non existent website that pulls up all kinds of links to OTHERS services, not yours, you seem to need the business. Either get someone with more vocabulary to answer the phones or give this man some less stressful job cause that customer service in my opinion was foul and uncalled for. First off, I manage an auto repair shop. I turned in a warranty engine and am getting excuses as to why it has been 3 weeks to repair their engine. I will never recommend them for an engine repair based on the relaxed attitude they have on fixing a warranty engine that was due to their error. By the time they said the engine would be done it will have been a month that the car has been sitting at my shop waiting for them. Not a great business practice nor is it a good product in my experience. read more

One word: Incompetence. Here's my story.... condensed as much as possible so that you can all go on with your lives after reading it. Our beloved 1991 4Runner had a bad cylinder and wouldn't pass smog, so it was time to retire, replace or rebuild the engine. We are totally not willing to retire this truck, and replacement is too expensive, so the hubby and I chose to rebuild. He got 3 bids, and we chose Cascar, the middle bid. In hindsight, a very poor choice. We paid our neighbor who is a total genius gear-head (who can tear down an entire vehicle and then put it back together without the slightest thought - I've watched him do it to convert an old broke down Toyota into a fully functional bad ass off-road vehicle) to pull the engine. Cascar picked it up from our house. No complaints so far! 1st run: Cascar rebuilt the engine and delivered it back to our house. When the engine was put back in the truck, it was smoking horribly and would not stop (not just burn off of oils and such) - the smoke filled our neighborhood (sorry neighbors). Then coolant started alternately dripping or pouring from the tailpipe. Diagnosis: incorrect intake manifold gasket used by Cascar. So we paid our neighbor to pull the engine AGAIN, and let $$$ in oil, coolant and gaskets go down the drain. 2nd run: Cascar replaced the intake manifold gasket with the correct gasket (they said)... When the engine was put back in the truck, it began overheating immediately. However, with the thermostat out, it stopped overheating. We pulled the radiator to see if there was blockage, and found chunks of silicone sealant inside. Cascar had globbed on the sealant like it was the only thing holding the engine together. Cascar paid to have the radiator flushed, but that didn't fix the problem. So we tried 4 different thermostats - Our original Toyota brand, the replacement generic from Cascar, a second generic that we purchased, and a second Toyota brand that we purchased. None worked. Cascar thought it might be the water pump - they had replaced our functional Toyota brand water pump with a generic water pump. That wasn't the problem either. As of today (9/28) they "think" that it is the head gasket - that they installed it incorrectly, causing one of the water jackets to be blocked. REALLY??? So they are promising to have it fixed in 2 days. We'll see if this saga shall continue, or if this will finally be the end of the farce. I am giving Cascar 1 star because they have been very willing to fix their mistakes, however, I do not believe that the mistakes should have been made in the first place. This has cost us an entire summer of not having our truck available to go camping, make Home Depot runs, etc. I am not a happy customer. read more

Used them a couple times but this last time was crap. Dropped off a load of stuff to get cleaned and I got stuff back dirty if not untouched which I wasn't worried about. Then I have to bring back a throttle body because who ever I dropped the stuff off to before thought they needed to disassemble a plastic cover piece. They failed to disassemble it correctly which ended up breaking bolts in it. I bring it back and was told I'd get taken care of. I had to leave on business matter and upon coming back months later to pick up the throttle body I was told no work has been performed and it's just been sitting. I show up and they tell me they didn't have a drill with a proper size chuck to accept a small drill bit.... then I had my own drill I had to lend to them just so they can fix the problem. When I finally get back there to pick up part I'm told it's 40 bucks for drilling out 3 bolts and retapping all 4 holes. I wouldn't have mind 20 but 40 was ridiculous and more of a insult when I didn't cause the problem to begin with. Then the owner gets pissed off and tells me to fuck off and never come back. Instead of listening to what I had to say. He insisted that I broke the bolt and that they wouldn't disassemble the throttle body in that matter. Yet I received the throttle body dismounted from the intake manifold I had left it on and I find a zip lock bag with the broken bolts to the throttle body cover. I would have loved to come back but with his poor customer skills I'm sure he's lost plenty of returning customers. 2 stars for mediocre work and poorly estimated finish times Louie was cool tho not his brother or twin what ever. That guy should stay in the back of the building more if he's gonna insist everything broken is the customers fault. read more

I brought them a straight forward Chevy 350. Took two weeks longer then promised. ( 6 weeks)They never call for status. Then when it was finally ready, they called for me to pick it up. They are jammed for space, and want me to come ASAP. I live almost an hour away. I came a two days later. My engine wasn't even finished! I returned a week later. I picked it up. They then gave me a box of bolts and parts they didn't even bother to put back on. The bolts were not in baggies or labeled in any way. Parts were missing. I fear they quality of the work is now as bad as the service. Typical case of dad handing the biz down to son who lets it go to crap. read more

I came to Cascar to have 4 caliper holes helicoiled. Left my calipers here for a couple of days and when I got them back they were machined properly and reinstalled fine back in my car. Recommended. read more

Negative Stars to these yahoos. I gave them a standard old flathead V-8 used in thousands of classics. Parts for this motor are everywhere. IT TOOK THEM 1 YEAR AND 3 MONTHS to get this engine back to me. Whenever I called for an update they had nothing but rude excuses- "somebodies out with a cold, somebody's on vacation, can't find parts" (Bull Sh*t). When I finally got the engine back the real work started. I have since paid more than the rebuild price I was quoted just to repair the horrible, terrible and 100% incompetent job that Cascar performed. I could go into a full (and very lengthy) review of the things these non-mechanics failed to repair correctly, but I have since had the engine re-rebuilt by competent mechanics who give a damn. I am putting it back in the car today. This is the typical story of "Dad retires - gives business to son - Son lets business go to hell." Cascar did competent work once-upon-a-time When Dad Ran The Joint. But no longer - pity . . . Either take your work somewhere else or do it yourself; otherwise "abandon all hope ye who enter here". read more

I visited Cascar Machine Shop to have a set of cross-drilled rotors resurfaced. I arrived and spoke with Mike. He was funny and quickly took down my order. He told me they would be ready in two to three hours as there were several other orders ahead of me. I called in about an hour and thirty minutes to two hours after I had delivered my parts and they told me the rotors were ready. When I arrived to pick up the parts, I asked to speak with the machinist that had worked on the rotors. The machinist (sorry, didn't get your name) promptly stopped working to answer my questions. I really appreciated him taking the time to rest my concerns. I will recommend this shop to everyone. When I build my engine, Cascar will likely hear from me. read more

Don't waste your time if you have a small job. I just needed two holes drilled in a thick piece of metal. My $20 job wasn't a priority for them. Won't ever go back and this is getting posted on my Facebook. First employee said no problem, come back at 1:30 and it'll be done. 1:30 and nothing. Second employee said come back in an hour and promise to have it done. 2:30 and nothing. Third employee said come back at 4:30 and we'll have it done. That's when I just grabbed my parts. What a waste of a day. Stopped at Langill's General Machine shop on way home. $20 and it was done in 5 minutes. Highly recommend them. read more

I've had a bit of work done here over the last 20 years. Recently I had block prep and the heads rebuilt for a 429. Had a 2.2 4 banger rebuilt about 10 years ago and it's still running strong and passes smog regularly. I was in a rush then and they got it done in time. There was an issue with a missing dipstick tube. They at first said they didn't have it but apparently they found it after I pushed them on it. They are pretty clear about their estimates and end up pretty close to them. They also work with you if you are trying to save money (i.e buy a rebuild kit online.) They helped insure the parts I was ordering were of good quality. With the 429 rebuild all the clearances were spot on. read more

Had my block rebuilt in Sept 2015. Just now getting a chance to review this place. I've used this place in the past n they were great. The service now is just poor. They dont ever call u to let u know what's the status. Thats not y im writing. Took 3weeks to rebuild my block. I got excuses after excuses from telling me they got the wrong parts to parts arriving broken. After all is said n done i finally got my block n assembled everything. The Fken thing didn't last but 100miles. I took it in cos my #2 cylinder had a grove from being overheated. With that it was making a loud tapping noise. They re-sleeved and replaced all pistons n everything else that comes with a full rebuilt. Now i got a rod knock or possibly main bearing slap cos i have metal shaving in my oil n it taps louder than what I brought it in for. The owner started blaming everything else but his workmanship. He wanted me to yank the fken thing out n bring it to him n he'll work with me on the cos. Fker can't measure when he ordered the pistons so im pretty sure he measured the rods n crank wrong n got the wrong bearing ors just didn't know how to use a torque wrench. Whatever his deal was i wasted $1k couldve taken my chances with a used jdm motor. Good Luck if u use this place!!!!!! read more

after reading mixed reviews I stopped by the machine shop. The guy I talked to sorry forgot his name was very nice and sounded like he knew what he was doing. The shop was kind of a mess but its a machine shop so whatever. My biggest problem was they said they would pick up my engine from my house sounds great ok so they tell me they will pick up on Saturday at 7am. I called them on Thursday before to make sure and confirmed all my info including my cell number. I got up very early on Saturday to make sure I had the driveway clear, engine on hoist in front yard and all parts in a box while I waited in the cold early morning for no one to show up or call me. I tried calling the shop 4 times starting at 7:45 am up to 12pm with no luck. I feel if they will flake on a customer like this I would not trust them to do any work for me. Come on at least give me a call. Its been over a week and they never even called me back. This was for a complete motor rebuild so it could have been good money for them. So I found a better place in Fair Oaks. I guess it happened for the best if thats how they run a company. read more

DONT TAKE YOUR ENGINE WORK HERE !!!!!!!!! Vary unprofessional and dirty shop. Louie has been trying to get his son to run the business and he falls short of anything but a worker bee. Now as for Louie he's a vary nice person, but you can not trust him to tell you the truth. My engine was dropped off on June 21 2016 and with a promise of 1 month " one month no problem". Today is August 13 2016 and engine not done heads aren't done either. Yesterday I go down to pick up my engine had enough of Louie's "blank" stories. I talk with several employees and ask were my engine was and nobody "nobody" new anything. I looked there the dirty junky shop and couldn't find my engine. This was a high dollar build and yes my mistake for taking it there. boy do I regret that daily for the last month full of stupid stories that didn't match or I heard before. I'm heading back today and see if Louie is there and pick up my engine. read more
