Best sandwiches!!! I love love love Casetta sandwiches. Always fresh ingredients and bread. Made to order. You can call ahead and pick up or order at the counter and sit or take to go. My go to is the turkey. I love that they had traditional East coast hots. I always add those. You can choose hero and focaccia and it's always so hard to decide both are delicious! The Italian sandwich is also super food. Another thing I appreciate is you can order a half or a whole. The full the size is pretty big I usually can't finish it or if I do I'm super stuffed. the half size is perfect! read more

Very good! Cool place, lots of seating, convenient location. It got to be pretty busy both days I was there this week, but I didn't have trouble snagging a table either day. A lot of their business seems to be take-out, and their seating is pretty smart/flexible. Major pro: *Great* Carrot Ginger Soup. Main quibbles: 1. I wish they had espresso drinks. 2. I wish their bread was better. It's fine/"good enough", but Porters is orders of magnitude better. The sandwich I got today at Casetta (Chicken Parm Special) was pretty good, but could've been phenomenal on whatever bread Porters uses. 3. I wish their Caesar salad (my order yesterday) had less red endive. It was in big pieces, and extremely bitter. If there was less of it and it was more thinly sliced, I think I would've loved the whole salad: it was perfectly dressed, loved the dressing, loved the breadcrumbs. But, I felt like 1/3 of the salad was crazy bitter endive, which was too much for me. Didn't eat it. Felt like a waste. (For $8, it'd be cool if you got a piece of bread or something along with the salad.) So, very promising. I with with a few minor adjustments, I would head there multiple times a week on the regular. The Italian on Hero is the best sandwich I've ever had PERIOD. Just wow. Fresh quality ingredients and amazing bread. A perfect sandwich. It's a lil sloppy so grab an extra napkin and don't bother trying to eat in the car. Friendly and efficient counter crew. Hidden little gem in the same building as Sonic Foundry on West Washington. Clean, bright, cozy atmosphere with very comfortable padded seating. Seemed to have a nice wine selection. They didn't have a any espresso drinks but otherwise good selection. I had half the Sullivan on focaccia bread. Yum! Healthy light flavor that was the perfect size. Staff was friendly and helpful. Well that was extremely disappointing. I read so many great reviews on Yelp about how great their sandwiches are and was really excited to try it and just finished. Unfortunately, the bread was hard, overall the sandwich was very dry and I had to ask for two ramekins of extra mayonnaise to make it more palatable, but even then it was completely lackluster. I ordered the turkey sandwich as a hero and there really wasn't very much meat or ingredients in general on it and it was mostly just hard bread. Would possibly consider giving them another chance, but there are so many other great restaurants in the city, that it's unlikely. Unfortunate. read more

Private Event Review: Casetta was the venue for my wedding reception for which I was the groom. I received compliments from my guests telling me this was the best wedding they've ever been to. The front of the house: The staff is outstanding. They were courteous, accommodating and professional. When I didn't have an appetite because of the residual nerves and didn't touch my dinner, someone had the empathy to box up my food for me so I could at least experience it later. I was so appreciative of this and other moments of that night. James went out of his way many times to ensure our event was perfect, and it was. Sizing: We were able to reconfigure tables as needed to seat people. We had 60 actual seats available inside and out, so that was our wedding size, but there ended up being much more room than we had imagined because of so many people standing and socializing. I think we could have gotten away with 80 or more. All of the seating outside was available to us. There is a shelter above those tables so if it rained it still would have worked for outdoors. The back of the house: For anyone that is familiar with the food from Casetta, it should be no surprise that it was an outstanding, show-stopping experience. I got compliments all night long on the food saying it was the best so-and-so dish they've ever had, or it was the best food experience they've had at a wedding. Tommy went over the top for us. We started with the base catering menu but also went into some of our favorite dishes from some of the Friday Night Dinner series that we loved, and even into some stuff that Tommy used to do in NYC. I can't speak to how the back of the house felt about this, but we had five appetizers that we served followed by seven entrees for dinner. Since table service wouldn't have made sense, we did banquet style, and that ended up being an amazing way to do it because everyone got to try everything they wanted. Our guests lined up and filled their plates with "Friday Night Dinner" level quality food, walking away with plates full that looked like they were just about to dig into a Thanksgiving meal. It was awesome. Pricing: Extremely competitive. It should have been far more for the value we got. They were very upfront about cost per item and there were no surprises. First how does anyone NOT give this place 5 stars. This is one of the best restaurants in Madison. It could easily transplant itself to New York or Beverly Hills and compete. The soup puts your mother to shame. The Hoboken is my favorite. Fresh mozzarella, the red peppers, you don't even need the roast beef. If Frank was alive, he would be proud. The final aspect that makes this place so amazing is the awesome staff and ownership. I love this place and could eat here every day. Took part in a soft opening this weekend and loved it! Portions are very generous and I would suggest sharing all of the sides. Staff is very friendly and quick to make sure all needs are met. We stumbled upon this place while we had family staying at Hyatt Place and WOW we were impressed. This place is good, like really really freaking good. I've had some really good sandwiches ranging from Gino's here in Madison to Mona Lisa's in San Diego to Al & Joe's in Franklin Park, IL to I Fratellini in Florence, Italy and this place really stands out. Their hero bread with sesame seeds is simply amazing and they had just the right proportion of meat/veg to bread. The lettuce was shaved super fine which appears to be one of their 'things'. It was a little expensive but based on the quality of ingredients and care in crafting it was well worth it. I'll gladly fight campus and downtown traffic, parking, and a lunch rush to get this again. read more

Found out about Casetta's from a friend and had to try for a lunch meeting. Ordered on EatStreet for delivery. Prompt delivery and the subs and salads were labeled and packaged very clean. Just a few issues/suggestions: meat/cheese on salads were cubed, (super small) not a fan. Would of liked more meat. Everyone enjoyed their sandwich choice, but would of liked another layer of meat. I will order again but will make sure to ask for more meat:) read more

The food is absolutely amazing. Their hours of operation and daily food prep is abysmal and asinine. Their open like 3 hours out of 4 days a week and run out of food before close. Better than any coffee that I had while living in Chicago and in years of searching Madison for the best cup. Can tell it took time to source these beans. I came here on a Thursday specifically to try their porchetta sandwich (only available on Thursdays). I went to 3 years of high school in Rome, and on countless nights out in the city, I enjoyed a warm delicious porchetta sandwich from my favorite corner sandwich shop. I had high expectations but also a healthy amount of skepticism going in, a lot pressure to put on a sandwich. But let me tell you, this is a 5-star sandwich. The quality meats, cheese, and bread along with cozy atmosphere has made it a favorite for me just after my first visit.
