There is very little that makes me happier than a perfectly constructed sandwich. I was downright giddy eating this pastrami sandwich (which was beautiful, too, and sadly I did not snap a picture because I was too excited to eat it! It did not disappoint). Love this no-frills deli with the focus on what's important- amazing bread in perfectly balanced sandwich (and yes, for me that means not a TON of meat but it was satisfying and not meat-heavy. I thought the ratio of bread/cheese/meat was just right). Gino's also has a lot of pasta salad options (I've heard good things about both the Cajun chicken pasta salad and the pesto chicken salad but literally just made two pasta salads for this weekend so I'll have to try those next time). They also have ingredients for pizza in the fridge and pre-made lasagnas, pizzas, and desserts (Tiramisu!!!). It also sounds like they sometimes sell cannoli fresh, made-to-order. Great hidden gem, definitely check it out. I will say, I also got the Italian sub and I was less impressed with the meat/bread/cheese ratio (not enough meat, too much cheese) but that pestrami was chef's kiss. A true Italian deli. They have amazing sandwiches. My favorite is the veggie. Delicious bread, fresh ingredients and very flavorful. It's an easy order at the counter set up. Besides sandwiches they have many salads and other Italian deli style dishes you can get (huge display window). They also have take and bake lasagna that looks good. Everything is order to-go but they do have some indoor and outdoor seating. In addition to the ordering counter, it's a mini Italian grocery store. I love getting ingredients for homemade pizza here. They have the best sauce and thin ready made crusts. I typically buy a few packs to keep in my freezer. The prices are very reasonable as well. The staff is friendly and efficient. Would eat here everyday if I couldn't gain a pound. The #13 on Asiago bread is absolutely my favorite go to sub in the state. The deli pastas and salads are the classic Italian flavor combos you want to go with a great sub or pan of lasagna for take and bake. They're pricey but boy is it worth it. When our son moved to the area, we had more regular opportunities to enjoy Gino's and, now that we live in the area, our opportunities are even more frequent. I have heard many stellar reviews and was finally able to give Gino's a try. As soon as I walked in the clerks were asking what they could get me.I got the Italian Beef with Au Jus on the side and it was fantastic. Service took less than five minutes. Very good portion for the large option! The prices have gone up since the pictures (didn't capture any photos... next time) posted, but it is still definitely worth the price point. Also important to note, there is a 6% discount if you pay with cash. Gino's had the best Italian Beef that I've had in Madison! Gino's Italian Deli is a concrete miracle. Who knows how long I have been looking at this place when coming home through Maddison Wi so I finally decided to stop and get lunch since it was around 1 ish and I was thinking of stopping. They offer a lot of sandwiches, meals etc etc and take and bake items like pastas, sauces, sausages, etc etc. you get a 6% discount if you pay with cash the sign at the register says. I ordered two small sandwich's to go with one Sicilian and one pastrami because I was going to have one for lunch and one later for dinner. I was shocked when I opened them up to see very thin/little meat on the sandwich's and one thin tomato slice in the middle of the sandwich's. This has got to be the skimpiest sub sandwich's that I can remember getting from a deli, seriously if I wanted a loaf of bread I would have bought a loaf of bread. Lacks room to walk around but makes up for it with food variation, lucky you don't have to pay to heat food up, creates a calm but busy mood, has to eat at laundromat though. I went here on Sunday December 1st at 12:30pm and it was closed. I'm looking right at the door and it says the hours are Sunday 11am - 5pm. There's no note, just an empty store, locked door, and the lights out. This spot is top notch on the sandwich game. I work for a nearby company and will manufacture reasons to go to this side of town on lunch on Tuesdays so I can stop and get this sandwich. They're always quick with service and friendly when I go. The Tuesday Special is a grilled chicken sandwich with a delicious creamy garlic sauce, tomato, green onions and provolone. They have a drive-thru window! they have a deli with Italian meats and cheese on one side and pre-made salads and pasta dishes on the other. They have GREAT (small selection) Italian dry pasta (gold selection), olive oils, tomato paste, pasta sauces, seasonings, and pickled things: peppers, capers, olives, sardines. There's a refrigerator section with pre made, take'n bake lasagna and pasta dishes, tiramisu, salad dressings, bread, pizza sauce (great), pasta sauce, etc... and sodas. There's about 2-3 two person tables inside to eat at, so everyone takes it to go. Our favs: shrimp salad (the crunch, the flavor, the little shrimp), Naples chicken (so many flavors!), the Sicilian with extra Turkey (mild peppers are so good) - it's a nice mild spice, Italian flavored, vinegar bomb! The pizza sauce in the freezer is a our fav. The secret to Ginos is the sandwich bread. It's either your favorite or not, bc honestly, the amt of meat slices on these sandwiches is the same as those other places. Go for a sandwich then branch out. The chipotle chicken pasta salad here is one of the best pasta salads! It has pineapple chunks which gives the Smokey flavor from the chipotle a good balance. I've been eating at Gino's practically my whole life, and it's consistently delicious and fresh. You can buy cups or containers of their garlic sauce from the fridge, and I use it on everything. Ordered 5 things Broccoli Cashew salad ( very good) Greek salad (bland at best) my wife had a meatball sandwich, she said it was Ok, but only 2 small meatballs. I had first had Gino's delicious sandwiches when I picked up a couple of sandwich platters for an event I was hosting. I sampled both a turkey sandwich and a pastrami plus and was taken with each. Pastrami was previously something I hadn't really given a try, but ended up really enjoying, especially with the inclusion of cheddar cheese and horseradish sauce. I recently returned to pick up a couple of sandwiches for my boyfriend and I for a Saturday lunch and got a large pastrami plus as well as a large hot Italian beef. My boyfriend is picky about his Italian beef sandwiches and this one got the seal of approval. The meat was a bit thicker cut than usual, but the sandwich was appropriately dipped for a wet - yet not soggy - meal. There were at least four people assembling sandwiches during the lunch rush and 10 of us got served in record time. There's a definite family vibe that runs throughout the shop, and while not the largest shop in the world, you can quickly fill a basket with both homemade and imported delicacies. Sandwich prices are reasonable (about $7 on average for a large), and while some of the take-home trays are on the higher side, you know you're getting quality. I'm looking forward to going back soon and snagging some cannoli this time around - a treat I haven't found elsewhere in Madison. read more

Unfortunately, that bad-vibes tradition seems to have survived the move to this corrugated shack outpost, where grumpiness was on full display during two of my last three visits. As for the food, meh. There's little here that can't be found for less and at better freshness and quality levels at Metcalfe's, Trader Joe's or Whole Foods.
