However you can buy a "3 flight" wine tasting or a "6 flight" wine tasting from a specific list of white wines or red wines. We ordered the "6 flight" consisting of 3 whites and 3 reds to taste. We liked the ability to choose the wines from the list. We also ordered a caprese crostini tray to nibble on while we tasted the wines. Most of the wines were "OK" to "Good" in taste with a couple of wines that a bit too young for tasting. But it was my mistake for selecting them. All in, it was a fun way to spend the Erving. We will definitely be back to try The Stem and Stein once again. Thanks. Rob F

I even branched off for a cider which was delicious. The food was great. I tried the pretzels and the cheese dip was great with just a touch of spice. I was told the menu was new and tried the BBQ brisket Reuben and it was a great combo of BBQ and complimentary flavors for an overall satisfying sandwich... Always hard to find the combo of good beers (or at least a really good selection) and good food but this is it. I added this to my list of places when I'm visiting.... I'm usually in Huntsville but it's worth branching out to Madison AL

Sorority sister and I were so happy and surprised to see Church Street Wine had opened in a…read morepreviously closed wine shop in Providence! Sadly, we attended a funeral earlier in the morning and following the funeral we ate lunch at Grille on Maine around the corner. There were a few patrons inside the shop on this mid-afternoon July Friday and a few on the patio out front. There were two youngish men working at the counter/bar [maybe more, I only noticed 2] and they offered us no help whatsoever, I'm not sure we were even greeted. When we did get one of the employee's attention and I asked about the store and how long it had been opened he said his coworker that day had worked for the Mells for 9 years which is a long time, especially in the hospitality business. The layout of the bottles is awkward. It's an attractive way to display bottles, but inefficient in terms of reaching them, and if I recall properly, the bottles are "one deep" meaning, they don't have multiple bottles of the same wine on display. None of the wine sections were labelled [e.g., "whites," "white alternatives," "sparkling,"], so if you are trying to get in and out quickly, that probably won't happen. We were looking for an unoaked chard and they didn't have any. An unoaked pinot grigo would have been fun, too; again, they didn't have that either; nor did they offer to order any. We had a question about one of the types of wines, and the employee was not very knowledgeable about it. The price points were good on many of the bottles averaging around 11.50, and we ended up splitting a case, and the young man working there was nice enough to load it in our trunk. Maybe I'm spoiled by the Mells' friendly, knowledgeable, personal attention and service at the original Church Street Wine Shoppe which goes such a long way, and of course increases sales because who doesn't want to branch out and try wine recommendations when the proprietor asks what flavor profiles you like and makes recommendations? Also, there was no food menu anywhere that I could see, because I was curious if they offer eats. I'm grateful Church Street Wine is in Providence, I just wish the workers were better trained on the excellent customer service I've experienced at the original CSW Shoppe and more knowledgeable about the wines.

We were greeted when we entered and were given some instructions but I must admit, I was a little lost. I was told there was some outside seating (all of the tables/chairs were taken inside) so since this was my first time visiting, I wish there were signs or maybe the hostess could have showed us specifically where to go because oops, I accidentally opened a door that appeared to be an office. Someone saw us and we probably looked lost to them and so they were nice enough to show us the outside area which had a singer who sung some Frank Sinatra songs. He was very talented and appealed to the audience. To our surprise, we saw behind us a table for the tastings. I asked the server for a champagne card so I could take notes and view the prices, but she said when we entered, we should have received one. So I went back to the front and asked the people at the door for the champagne card and they stated that they were printing them, and that they will hand them out a little later. Also I wondered about my brunch that was paid for separately and they said they will come and find me when it was ready. I am glad that we were able to find a table because now I am wondering if we couldn't, how would we have eaten our food. In my opinion, tables should have been reserved for customers who ordered food. Also I wasn't sure how they were keeping up with which customer showed up first because we weren't given a number or anything to show that we ordered food and what our number in line was. At first glance, they seemed unorganized. But as the time progressed they did eventually bring out the champagne cards and they apologized for the lateness of us receiving our food. As the event was coming to an end, one of the workers gave us info on future wine tastings and when they have a live band. All in all, we enjoyed the experience despite it seeming to be unorganized at times, but will definitely come back and visit soon. P.S. The champagne was great! Even bought a bottle. Also the brunch tray was delicious. Hats off to the chef! That whipped goat cheese with orange marmalade was amazing!
