Chicken tender dinner with broccoli, French fries, and a roll
Bailey B.

I honestly can't believe I've never left a review for Galen's. I guess it's just because it's been a fixture in my family's dining rotation for so long that the thought never occurred to me. Sadly, we actually hadn't been to Galen's in a very long time -- not sure why, probably some combination of pandemic + busy, but I'm happy to say I remedied that situation with my mom yesterday on our weekly lunch together! And it was every bit as good -- perhaps better -- as I remember it being. The interior is kinda cute kitschy southern / fish shack chic. It's a medium size restaurant that provides table service, though you take your ticket to the register to pay. Service is generally efficient and friendly. This time, I thought our waitress was particularly good. I think her name was Kristen, but I'm not sure. This restaurant is no frills, country cooking. It's popular with the locals and usually does good business at least for breakfast and lunch, which is when we tend to visit. They have traditional breakfasts, plate lunches, and barbeque. Never had the bbq but they have a smoker out back that's usually pumping out good smells. I'm always just too drawn in by the plate lunches. They have different specials each day of the week. You can opt for one of your sides to be replaced with the dessert of the day, which is always nice. My family and I have tried a lot of the food here and I honestly don't think we've had a bad meal. Our go-to's are the vegetable plate, chicken and dressing when they have it, and the chicken tender dinner. Chicken and dumplings are good too. For sides, we like their broccoli (lots of butter and garlic), their vegetable medley (which sounds like it wouldn't be that exciting but is actually exceptional), coleslaw (you've got your choice of mayo or vinegar-based -- my mom LOVES their mayo based with poppyseeds like her mom used to make :D), and what gets my vote for best fried okra in town. Don't forget to ask for ranch for dipping if you get chicken tenders or fries; it's homemade and super creamy. Their dessert of the day is usually some kind of cobbler. I like the chocolate cobbler: warm chocolate pudding and pie crust. Yum. At breakfast, the eggs, bacon, biscuits, hash browns, and pancakes are all consistently made well. A one-off visit here may only earn 4 stars, but after many, many visits over the years, the consistently solid food and quick service has solidified this as one of our regular favorites. Give them a try if you're in the area.

Don't let the building scare you. The food here is DELICIOUS!!!! I ordered the pork chops but they were out so they offered the ribs just pulled from the smoker and O.M.G. They were really good.

Just one of those great, small places you usually pass when you drive by - and shouldn't. Amazingly friendly staff, good food that was very reasonable. Everyone we came with raved about their pancakes, and I had the biscuits and gravy. It was very good also. It helped that we were all a bit hungover - and everything had just the right amount of grease :)

Onion rings!! Yum yum

It's kind of a funky little place, but the food and the service were excellent. Not too many diners like this one are still around.

Let me preface this review by saying I believe a patron should never have to ask for a drink or…read moremenu when sitting at the bar. The staff should ask you as quickly as possible after you sit. I say this knowing they can be busy getting drinks for the whole restaurant. It probably goes without saying I had to ask. I'm sure if I didn't ask I would still be sitting at the bar waiting. Three staff and I heard all kinds of language and they were focused on their personal issues, not their patrons. They have a great bourbon selection. The bar is a beautiful off-white marble top and feels cool to the touch. Great vibe among all the people sitting in the bar. There are nice, big windows in the bar and comfortable seating. I ordered the Mahi Mahi and it did not disappoint. A light crust, pan fried to perfection. The chopped vegetable medley was the perfect pairing. Very good. Temperature was perfect and it arrived promptly. No waiting. Desert was a peach cake with ice cream. The young lady at the bar recommended it over the strawberry mason jar. I'll have to come back and try the other. The food was great. The drink was great. The ambience was great. If the bar staff was up to par, it was a 5-star experience. I know the bar can be hard work, but don't forget your patrons. Ask them if they want another drink and pour it. Drinks are highly profitable.

Well I enjoyed my visit to Revivalist on a Friday night. It was a super busy night downtown,…read morehowever they also had complimentary valet which was a plus. The ambiance was great. Low lit, quiet and moody. There was a rehearsal dinner going on in their event room and it was so nice. But our server Rae was super sweet, very attentive and gave us recommendations as well as another server that was walking around. For the food, I will say that I had some favorites: the hush puppies, Brussels, and the short rib. To me the fried green tomatoes were a bit too thick and just not well seasoned for me. mahi Mahi as well lacked a little seasoning. Fries and aioli were a good side. I am more than willing to come back and try more! I'm interested in their Tuscan Wine dinner coming up for sure. My boyfriend enjoyed his old fashioned which he had never had their version and it was very good. My mocktail was really good as well as my glass of Loosen Bros Riesling. Will be back!

Goode fried food is hard. The fried menu items I had here were the best I've had in years!…read more The setting is far off the beaten path, but I found out why as we were leaving. Service was quick and cheerful from all the staff. I had the fried catfish, baby lima beans, fried okra, and hush puppies. Spouse had shrimp basket, hush puppies, and homemade potato chips. As you can see, multiple fried foods. Fried okra is how I test "country" cooking. This was the best fried okra I have had in years. The catfish, shrimp and hush puppies were all excellent. It seems like they use a very light oil, but however, they do it the results are crunchy, non-greasy and bring out the flavor of the food. The way frying is meant to do. Very light breading but just enough. The baby lima beans were excellent. So many times I've had side orders that tasted just like they were scooped out of a 5 gallon can of Sysco product. I could be wrong, maybe it was the very very mild seasoning, but these did not seem commercial. A few caveats. There was a single catfish fillet and it was quite small. I recall getting the catfish fillet meal at the old Gibson's on the Parkway before it burned down. Two large fillets. But actually they could not compare to this. Hush puppies were excellent, I like more onions in them. But that's my preference. But for me, this does not takeoff from the overall five star rating, which I rarely give on a first visit. If you like country food, by all means go here. We will be back.

Wow! Really, really, really impressed at how delicious this place was. We were road-tripping in…read morethe area and decided to stop in for lunch, and I'm so glad we did! Cleveland is a small town that would be easy for many to miss, but a trip to the area for this restaurant alone is worth it. It seems a fairly popular spot for lunch and also boasts a small local collection of art, the profits of which go to support a local addiction recovery group. Very kind. The restaurant is clearly owned and operated by Christian folks as evidenced by the decorations, but the churchy feeling is very welcoming and not at all proselytizing. Likewise, the service was effusively kind and helpful. They were happy to chat and answer questions about the menu. They greeted each customer with a smile on their face and made appropriate small-talk with regulars. An older gentleman who was clearly hard of hearing was treated with heaps of patience and kindness; he seemed a regular and they said goodbye to him and reassured him they'd be waiting for him when he visited again the following week. It was so sweet and did my heart good. :) The menu has a lot of fancy sandwiches, a few entree salads, and a few entrees like smoked chicken and loaded baked potatoes. Sides are sort of upscale bbq/southern restaurant (grits, greens, potato salad, beans, etc). The prices are appropriate for the portion size and very high quality of the food. I ordered their "Ranch Burger" sans red onion and tomato while both of my parents got the patty melt. I tried their macaroni and cheese for a side; both 'rents got the baked potato salad. Our food was cooked fresh so it took a few minutes to come out; it was more than worth the wait. I will go ahead and get out of the way that the only not gold-star-worthy item was the macaroni and cheese. It wasn't bad, but it seemed like it had been reheated and it was just sort of gloopy and a little oily. I'd get my parents' baked potato salad over that next time; it had fresh-cooked crumbled bacon bits on it and was so smoky and cool. Holy MOLY the sandwiches, yall. The patties were hand-formed on both, steaming hot and cooked perfectly. Nice balance of fattiness too. My burger was an awesome symphony of flavor: slightly sweet, soft pretzel bun, melted sharp cheddar, creamy ranch, and this amazing sweet-and-salty bacon jam that perfectly tied the whole thing together. The copious amount of ranch made it a little hard to eat, but paper towels were readily available and I smashed that dang burger. As delicious as it was, my parents' patty melts may have been even better. Same great burger, add delightfully crispy, thick-cut bacon and this absolutely fabulous cheese dip...WOW. Hard to describe how incredible both sandwiches were, so with that in mind: go TRY THEM yourself. Thanks so much for one of the best meals I've had in a good while!
