You know how some restaurants get characterized as "no frills"? I've used that term to describe restaurants before, but Casey's Diner seriously has set the new standard of "no frills" for me! This place is tiny...like the size of my apartment tiny. There's like 8 stools inside. Oh and the door to get in is a SLIDING DOOR. Do not make the same noob mistake I made by tugging at the thing and making a ruckus. So embarrassing... Anyway, burgers and hotdogs. Eat three of those in any combination and you will be full. Sometimes there's pie. No fries. Even though I really enjoyed my meal, I thought it was a little pricey for the portion. I would say Casey's Diner is more of a 3 1/2 but this is the closest I've gotten to In-and Out (because its so freshly prepared) since I've moved to Boston. read more

Most of you know that Casey's has 8 counter stools and a takeout window. So I won't waste your time telling you that it's not suitable for an office party or dinner with Aunt Sally from Marblehead. She can get scrod somewhere else. (Sorry.) Cut to the chase ... Hot dog was pretty good. Nice snap. Classic New England white split bun and mild steamed dog. OK, but nothing extraordinary to the taste. The cheeseburger, however, was excellent. Greasy? Yes. But a perfect, thinly crusted patty with great flavor and outstanding texture. Worth the trip. As for those complaining about the help, fuhgeddaboudit. Reminds me of So. Philly Pat's and Geno's, trying to get the "whiz/with" details straight. Walk up to the window and watch it explode open. Order a couple dogs, ketsup, mustard, onion. Sit on the hood of your car and enjoy. Caseys is simply wonderful. Welcome to old school at its best. Not much to say that hasn't already been said. The food is good, but simple. Although the burgers and the dogs are delicious, the lack of fries or any other creative side item is always a disappointment. Of course, you could always just order two burgers or two more dogs and then you'd never even miss that side of fries. I'd suggest getting there before or after the lunch time rush so that you can take your time and "explore" the inside of the caboose. There is a history of the diner, of sorts, sprinkled throughout the photos on the walls. Stepping out of my comfort zone from the fancy and upscale to the rugged and humble, I ventured over to Casey's Diner in Natick with some fellow burger enthusiasts to experience a burger as simple as you can get. Walking into Casey's is like a time-warp; with about eight seats at the counter, seating is limited, and the option of grabbing your meal from the take-out window is available too. Hot Dogs and Burgers are the focus here, and you can smell them a mile away. But I'm a burger guy (shocking I know) and only having a few minutes to eat, I was carefully instructed to order a burger with onions cooked into the patty, and don't forget about the bacon. What they do to the onions and bacon is what makes this burger; reminiscent of White Hut, it's all about the crust, the grease and the simplicity, the beef is not the star but it really doesn't matter. It's a small burger and it costs around $3, but they don't serve fries, so if you're looking to be stuffed you'll probably have to order a couple of burgers or one of their signature hot dogs, the choice is yours. The bacon is carefully chopped and pressed into the patty, so you end up with bits of bacon running throughout the burger and that makes me happy. The onions are essentially treated the same way; chopped up and encased into the patty. Both condiments give the burger a fantastic crunch to an already crispy burger, all because it's cooked on a griddle that probably hasn't been cleaned in about thirty years. But that's not a bad thing, it's a greasy delight that fancier burger joints can't claim. Of course, there us such a thing as too greasy, and the Casey's Burger is borderline too greasy. It's that tricky play on "juiciness versus greasiness," as a novice burger enthusiast might mistake an ungodly amount of grease as one juicy burger, this one falls somewhere in the middle. The bun is a very standard white grocery store bun that is ever so gently kissed by the griddle, giving it a small amount of crunch. Melted American Cheese is obvious but it melts perfectly, thus adding another layer of creaminess and fat. The beef is ordinary, but for $3 does it really matter? The unique crust via the bacon and onions are extraordinary, and enough to make a trip to Casey's Diner more than worthy. Delay the diet for another day, eat a couple of greasy burgers and be happy for what it is, you won't be sorry. read more

I love this place! The food (the only things I have actually ever eaten were the burgers and dogs) is great and it is oh so cheap. The inside is so tiny that you really need to go at an off time to get a seat but it is worth it just to talk to the guys that work there. They are are all cute and funny and have that awesome Boston accent that this southern girl loves so much. It's 1927. Inside a Worcester. 10 seats. all oak interior. I had a blast with my imagination the moment I stepped in. The griddle, urn, dog steamer.. all seems to date back to the era. Don't even think about Fries here. After all, that wasn't popular till the 1950's with the help of McDonald's; and we're in a traditional Worcester Lunch Car built in 1922. First reaction, "damn this is small!" when I got my dog. It didn't take many decades to cultivate the "supersize me" portion. I was so used to that, this hit me by surprise. Frankly, I enjoyed this original sized dog. I have a small mouth so I can actually eat here with some table manners and not make a mess! Same goes with the burger, it ain't a supersize portion! My mom took me to Casey's since I was a little girl. She had so many fond memories of going there and eating when we lived in Natick.The past two times; however, were more than disappointing. The current owner treated her so poorly, we both left the establishment with a sour taste in our mouths. In our quest to see the beautiful foliage outside of Boston we forgot to search restaurants in the area. I pulled out my handy iPhone and Yelp App and found Casey's Diner. Honestly I was expecting more when we pulled up and even the hubby questioned Yelp once we saw the industrial type area we were in. Our hunger pains convinced us to give the place a try. Once we were inside of Casey's I was surprised at how small it was... 10 stools at a bar and the cooking was done right in front of you. We both ordered cheeseburgers and chips. I inhaled my burger, it was so damn good and cooked just how I wanted it (medium). It was a simple Hubby agreed, very good burger and especially for the price. There are no frills to this place but frills aren't required for good food. The employees are friendly and gave us a rundown on the history of the diner. This seems to be a local favorite since everybody in the joint knew each other. If I lived in the area, I know I would be a regular. read more

Classic greasy spoon. There are like, three things on the menu-- hotdog, burger, grilled cheese. They are all GREASY, like, grease dripping down your fingers greasy. The dog isn't my favorite, but I loved my cheese burger and rootbeer. And the toddler in my dining group was really chowing down on her grilled cheese. Two hot dogs fixed the way you like, a soda and a bag of chips - best lunch ever! I was taken to Casey's the first time by a Natick townie, and I'm hooked. I've been back and brought friends and THEY are hooked. It's a Phantom Gourmet pick for a reason. I haven't been able to sit inside yet, since it's always busy, but the window on the side means FAST service. There are picnic tables around the building, too. Hot dogs are the example of simplicity. Steamed on a regular bun, with condiments as ordered. It's fresh, hot and delicious, and CHEAP. The funny lingo the cooks have appropriated is not a colorful mask hiding any secrets. Apparently this is a Natick institution. Somehow, my (I now suspect evil opponents of happiness) coworkers kept it secret from me for over a year, even though it's within walking distance. I hold it against them, because Casey's is pretty damned excellent! You can either sit at the counter in the tiny building, or order at the outside window. I've been going to Casey's for almost 10 years. Casey's is truly one of THE great diners! Everything from the hot dogs to hamburgers to even the egg salad is all incredibly tasty. If you like going back in time *and* tasty burgers, eat here. Casey's is a proverbial hole-in-the-wall diner in Natick. Every time I find a place like this, I'm amazed that it still exists, surviving decades of surrounding growth and change. Casey's only seats a handful of customers. If you sit at the counter, you'll be able to watch your food being cooked. I planned on a burger and drink but was talked into getting a hot dog appetizer. Nothing fancy or special really - just a wiener pulled from a hot water bath and placed on a New England style roll along with relish, mustard and onions. It was indeed an appropriate hors d'oeuvre. When asked what I wanted on my burger, I said 'just cheese' and planed on adding ketchup and mustard later. My mistake: after my burger was delivered, I asked for condiments and was mildly scolded for not telling the cook when asked. It was great. I wolfed it down and ordered another, this time not forgetting to notify the cook of my desired enhancements. Total yum. Inexpensive. When I'm back in the area, I will eat here again. UNSANITARY! Few weeks ago in the evening when I was in to get take out of 2 burgers and 4 hotdogs, the older gentleman that is usually there was reading the newspaper while waiting on the younger gentleman to make the burgers, he was reading the newspaper, picked his nose, later got a used tissue out of his sweatshirt to blow his nose, put the used tissue back into his sweatshirt, continued to read the news paper and then picked his nose again. Then proceeded to reach in to the warmer machine to grab 4 buns without washing his hands, I think he realized after taking the buns out that his hands were dirty and I was also sitting right there, then he reached under the counter and wiped his hands on a damp towel and went back to prepping the hotdogs. All in front of me, I had a loss for words and usually I would speak up but was so damn surprised and disappointed and figured I will pay for the order and write a review here, threw everything out and got takeout elsewhere. What a dog! What a dog!!! Caseys is as New England as New England diners can get.... Pricey, tight, with dogs that give ya the NE snap from the first bite! All around of course! (means the works). Can you steam these pups at home? Of course... but if you are away from your nest, then let these fellahs entertain you, dine you and crack you up. They are a well orchestrated group of short order maestros! For us "dainty dames" (Ha!) they split the dog in half... for the rest of the sardines in this oh, so charming little can, you get your stuff whole! Burgers are great, sandwiches are great. Sitting there at the counter watching the hot dogs steam made them feel almost natural. Like, they grew out of the ground like that or something. It just seemed like that's how hot dogs were meant to be! Yeah, I know, hot dogs are made out of all sorts of nasty things, but seriously, who cares? These were fantastic. Fantastic experience. Place is nostalgic, like a previous reviewer said, "to a fault". There's an antique cigarette vending machine there that just looks like it fits right in. Dogs are cheap, with just the right amount of sauce, and the burgers are fresh and very, very tasty. Judging by the local clientèle the place is very popular, and though I'm rarely in Natick, I will definitely swing by the next time I'm around as well. After reading a bunch of reviews on Yelp, we decided to head to Casey's for lunch a few weeks ago. It was one of those crazy days - right after a bunch of little league games finished up - so we ended up ordering at the window and eating outside. There are definitely rules about how to order and we didn't know how to do it quite right. Fortunately, we ended up with mostly what we ordered - a burger and a hot dog for each of us, sodas, chips, and most of the toppings we wanted. It was so tasty.... We took friends back there a couple of weeks later. That time we ended up sitting at the tiny counter inside. This is the way I'd recommend you try to experience Casey's, if only because the banter of the guys working there reminded me of the lunch counter (sadly closed) in the tiniest grocery store in my teeny-tiny home town in northern Minnesota. The food was even better the second time, and the orders were 100% correct. Yum! read more

Everyone knows Casey's is a Natick legend, I grew up in Natick and always enjoyed Casey's. Affordable spot, maybe a little much for quick dogs and burgers but hey still great food. Sitting inside is definitely a treat, this place has so much history. Most of the staff is friendly but I'll be honest the last couple Times we've(me and friends) gone we weren't impressed with the lady working the window. She was short and rude, like I get it your busy and you are working but I'm spending my hard earned money at your business just be nice and don't act like you're doing me a favor. Besides that this place is great, get two dogs and a cheeseburger and remember to ask for onions in, grilled onions cooked into the burger just can't be beat. read more

Casey's Diner is just pooping old timey charm. Very authentic, a lot of original-looking details. The hot dog itself was really tasty and cooked well, I was a bit disappointed with the topping options. Cheap, good quality food. Burger was good too. Casey's is the best diner in the land. John F. Kennedy's fav place to eat in the 40's/50's, this 10 seat caboose diner is a legend in the hot dog world. Line can get long in the summer with the construction crew crowd, but there is never more than a 10 min or so wait for a seat inside. There are few things in life better then a good old fashioned hotdog, and that's exactly what you get at Casey's. Seating is limited to just counter space and a couple of small tables outside, with parking just as cramped. There is a takeout window on the side, which I typically order from and just eat in my car or sitting on the curb. Hotdogs are extremely inexpensive (~$2 with toppings), boil cooked, and tasty. There is no bend or squish to them, just a nice hard snap. Buns are just the way I like them, soft and moist. Toppings (ketchup, relish, etc) seem out of a can, but still quality goods. Orders usually take no more then a minute or two, and the staff is friendly as you'll find. They aren't the best dogs I've had before, but certainly some of the better, and for the price, you really can't beat them. I believe they do serve some other items, but all I've ever had are the dogs, and never had a complaint. Certainly recommend if you're in the area or just have a craving. read more

Best Burgers ever. They're are very juicy and so good. I highly recommend it. The hot dogs are also very good.

I live nearby, so it's pretty convenient. But I wish they sell fries.... That said, the people that work there are always friendly, the food is good and simple, and when I go there with my dog, they always give her a big honkin hotdog. So now, whenever I go past it while walking my dog, she will try to drag me to Casey's and sit neatly infront of the sliding door. Coming to Casey's might have been the highlight of my week. Best little hotdog and steamed New England style bun, hands down! I was in Natick for about a week visiting my parents, and as we drove by Casey's one weekday, there was a huge line. I decided I wouldn't leave without trying a dog. I got one dog with the works - not too much and not too little ketchup, mustard, relish and onions. We ate in the 1922 horse-drawn diner car and chatted with the grandson of the original owner and another employee - super friendly, very charismatic, and extremely efficient. They carried a few conversations, took window orders and dine-in orders enthusiastically and quickly, all at once. I'll be back as soon as I come back to Natick. BTW, this place could not even compete with our San Francisco What's Up Dog! There's something to be said for the longevity of this place and the quality of the dogs. read more

I'm a real sucker for vintage anything, and for a novelty restaurant - anything other than the cookie-cutter establishments that have destroyed the local flavor of every single city across the US...I digress. This place is adorable - tiny, only 8 seats, I guess? The guys there were so nice. Got two really, really good hot dogs and two sodas for $8 - a bargain all around! My nephew loved it!! On one of my very first visits to Natick(my daughter goes to a performing arts school nearby), I luckily stumbled upon Casey's. What made me stop was the vintage look of the "caboose" and the line of waiting customers on the side. I will have to admit that they have the best double cheeseburger I have ever eaten.....period. Their hotdogs with everything are legend,too. Plus, the guys that make the food are part of the essence of this place. My daughter's friends laugh at me when I say I can't leave Natick without a visit to Casey's. Rather than a lobster or filet, I'd rather have that double cheeseburger. read more

I actually took fellow yelper John F. to lunch here because he had never heard about it. Casey's is true local and American classic diner. Owned by the same family for generations, it is a true haunt of any self-respecting local. I've eaten there since I was a kid. Their hot dogs are what their known for, but they make pretty good burgers also. Very cheap and very fast and very delicious. There is very little seating here and is very popular, so don't be surprised if you have to eat outside standing. But it's very worth it! read more

I'm updating my previous review because of some of the comments about the "bad attitude." I used to work down the street and walked up to the window many times with my dog, a constant companion. Never once were we greeted with less than a smile and a gratis hot dog. Needless to say my dog gets excited any time we get close to it. Food is pure diner, demeanors can be a bit gruff, but it's part of the deal. Also interesting to often see 100K luxury cars parked next to beaters in the small lot. read more
