This was an okay diner. Wanted something a little more relaxed and homey. This was it. Decent service. Not very busy and they serve breakfast all day. Opted for some comfort food. Hot turkey sandwich. It was rather large with lots of good turkey piled under the loads of gravy. My only complaint is that it was not very hot and halfway through eating it was cold due to the cold air blowing from the ceiling vents. It filled me up though! I'll preface this review saying I really wanted to like this place. I went in with rose-colored glasses looking for things to adore. The other choices in Roseburg seem to be chain restaurants. Times are hard and places are shutting down right and left. We drove around looking for something open. Looking through the other reviews (and personal experience now), it looks like we should have tried the breakfast and left the rest alone. The very first thing I noticed about the restaurant was the wooden Indian cigar statue. It was a little surprising to see in this day and age, but not totally surprising in Roseburg. Next thing was ripped booth seats and a dirty carpet. Yikes. The sign said seat yourself. I noticed after I stood there awkwardly a little too long. The restaurant was moderately busy but oddly quiet, like there had just been an "incident." Maybe this is just where quiet people go to eat? The waitress looked exhausted. She later intimated she had been there since 7, the chef since 5:30. That's a.m. when it was already nearly 7 P.M. Holy staffing issues, Batman! She loudly proclaimed that a coworker had a family emergency and there was no one else to cover for the shift. But what about the cook? She passed out menus, which were hand-laminated, 3-hole punched and put into plastic folders. They were awesome! I love when places do their own menus. My menu had double one page and was missing another, but we figured it out. The menus weren't sticky and gross, just a little frayed. The waitress noted they had recently been cleaned, which is nice to hear. Also a positive when restaurants clean their menus! I visited the restroom, which was also clean and smelled strongly of old-lady vanilla. Hooray attention to detail! If the public places are clean, hopefully it means the kitchen and food storage places receive as much attention. (This is what I tell myself so I don't get too freaked out over eating in public after watching way too many seasons of Kitchen Nightmares.) Menu prices were on par with Shari's, etc. I was disappointed to see they charge $2.75 for a mug of hot chocolate and are stingy with the refills (no refills is stated on the menu). The waitress was very kind and brought a little bowl for goldfish off of the salad bar for the kids to snack on while they waited. She was very sweet and on top of refills but clearly hadn't had a break in a good, long while. I had a hard time figuring out what to order, as most things seemed to be deep-fried and carb-loaded. I'm low carb and trying not to be an obnoxious diner, but seriously- why is it so darn hard to get just low-carb veggies and protein? I heard the waitress tell the cook that they had a customer who was allergic to the seasoning, so he'd have to grill her steak on a clean grill and not use any seasonings. Oh how I wish I'd asked what was in the seasoning! I ordered Rib Eye and asked for extra veg in place of my potato choice. I requested NO garlic mushrooms or garlic of any kind on my steak. I'm very sensitive to it. My steak arrived beautifully cooked with what looked like an entire jar of minced garlic on top, and a bowl of microwaved, canned peas on the side. My fault for not asking what the veg was- I tried to pawn the peas off on the kids but had to send the steak back. I got a much smaller flat-iron steak in exchange and was too irritated and hungry to send it back again or point out the obvious discrepancy. It was devoid of seasoning completely. No salt and pepper, no nothing. Apparently the only seasoning they have in the kitchen is minced garlic. It was bland. Cooked fine, but no sear, bland and sad. I feel like that steer needs an apology letter. The menu advertises a salad bar, which sounded amazing but was hidden in the back of the restaurant. Always, always, always check out a salad bar before you order it. The lettuce was wilted, the ice was melted, and some of the items were flat-out unidentifiable. It was a decent selection of miscellaneous salads, but not many just cut veggies with which to make a salad. And blue Jell-O. BLUE. JELL-O. The Waldorf salad had something powdered on it, which the waitress thought it was the dressing. My daughter's pork chops looked scrumptious. They were thick, huge, and smelled incredible. She said they were a bit dry but otherwise seasoned well. Note- no huge clumps of garlic on the seasoning that was used. My friend got a plate of something fried and requested onion rings instead of fries (which never came.) My husband got a grilled cheese sandwich with a side salad. The kids meals were a little sad. We went with macaroni and cheese with fruit. We paid $5 for a bowl of Kraft Mac & Cheese and old fruit. The melon pieces were huge and slimy. It was weird. The kids ate some of the noodles and begged off of everyone else's plates. There was nothing worth doggy-bagging. read more

Definitely an old fashioned, divey diner complete with COUNTER BOYS! Lots of activity and locals. It has a small town homey feel, but it is FREEZING in there. Wear a coat. Their egg game is pretty weak. My poached eggs were just vinegar water and yolk soup. My partner said his scrambled eggs were slimy. That being said, their homemade sausage patty is really good, and their bacon is cooked awesomely, and it's THICK! The hash browns are some of the better that you'll get in this type of place. There are no gluten free options (so they'll offer you fruit), but their sourdough bread is an inch thick and looks GLORIOUS. My partner was in heaven with the bread. The staff was kind and welcoming. I forgot to take pictures, but imagine 4 pieces of thick-cut bacon, a soup cup full of vinegar water and yolk soup with chunks of egg whites, and some golden hash browns with a side of toast that is an inch thick and dripping with butter. Change out the bacon for a sausage patty and slimy scrambled eggs, and you have a picture of my partner's plate. All in all not the worst. They just need to up their egg game. read more

I had lunch there yesterday, Saturday, 1:30 p.m.. lt was very clean and nicely organized with rolled silverware already on the tables. Lots of different condiments to choose from on each table. I ordered the double bacon burger, $10.95, and a Coke. The burgers come with a very nice assortment of sides to choose from, I chose the wedge fries and asked them to be well done. The burger was excellent! I do not understand why anybody in Roseburg goes to Red Robin for a Burger. I ordered mine medium rare and it came out medium rare, nice and juicy. The bacon, which I have complained before at other eateries, was the best I've seen on a burger in a long long time, two pieces of very thick long bacon strips. Now, the reason for 4 Stars instead of 5. I ordered my wedge fries well done / crispy. They did not arrive that way. My burger arrived promptly after I ordered it, a little too fast to create crispy well done fries. I suspect and only can I suspect, that the fries weren't dropped in time and the burger was completed before the fries were well done and the cook served them anyways. It wasn't busy so for me, there are no excuses, no matter what he told the nice lady when I was leaving. :-) But also, after my burger was served, nobody checked back after about 2 minutes to see if everything was okay. Finding out the fries were not well done. Would I go back, absolutely I will. The food other customers were eating looked really good also. We have eaten good food at this restaurant many times in the past on fishing road trips in the area. Last week we went into Casey's and saw that many people were not wearing masks. I don't care about the governers mandatory mask law. I do care about my health and the health of others. Clearly the owner of this restaurant puts profits and politics over the health of their customers. Having had friends die of COVID-19 we walked out and will not return. There is a reason health departments inspect restaurants. A restaurant owner who gets health information from his or her political beliefs rather than physicians and scientists is an owner that does not care about your health. If they don't believe science about viruses they probably don't believe science about bacteria causing disease. read more

Casey's Restaurant, Roseburg We decided to try Casey's Restaurant for our Saturday breakfast. It's hidden behind a Texaco station on Garden Valley Boulevard so we very nearly missed it. We would have definitely missed it without GPS. From the outside walking up it looked like a real dive but the parking lot was packed and we took that to be a good sign. Sometimes the best food is to be found in these kinds of unassuming places. Once we got inside, our first impression was confirmed: It was a dive, but then, I like dives so we pressed on. We were greeted by an extremely friendly and speedy wait staff but seated at the end of a long table that already had another family at the other end. We initially found this a bit uncomfortable, but there was a place setting or two between us, so it worked out okay. I ordered the "Hot Omelette" with toast and hash browns, and Rose opted for the chicken sandwich with soup. The menu prices were quite reasonable. Our food arrived very shortly. The servings were huge! Unfortunately, the quality was mediocre at best. Rose and I are both pretty capable cooks, and we both thought we could have done better ourselves. So for "recreational dining", we won't be going back. However, if you're ever really hungry but short on time and cash, this place might be an option. I should have checked Yelp before crossing the street from my hotel. The menu states that the Chicken Fried Steak is their number one dinner. This was the worst meal I have ever had. The restaurant is was filled with obese people. In the parking lot one overweight woman was unable to get into her SUV. Back to the food.... they use some kind of mystery meat at first I thought it was ground beef upon further investigation the meet appears to be some sort of machine processed beef. On top was a completely tasteless gray gravy. My baked potato was under cooked and baked in foil, vegetables appear to be left over scraps. One bright spot was the chicken noodle soup which was very good. I did not have any pie but they appear to have a very large selection located in a case near the cash register. I could have order the wrong meal since the restaurant was almost full at 6:30. They serve breakfast all day. Maybe I should have done breakfast for dinner. read more

We had 6 folks there Wed morn about 8. Found a big table and was greeted by a nice young gal and got our menus and water. Coffee was coming already for those so inclined. So crazy person amongst us ordered a cinnamon roll as an appetizer! It was very large, cinnamony, and delicious. Still..... I had pancakes, eggs over medium, and bacon. Beautiful wonderful bacon! It was absolutely perfectly cooked, served, and consumed. The 3 pancakes that come with it are way more than I could eat with the bacon, which was awesome, and perfect medium eggs. A big great breakfast at a locals type diner can't be beat. Everyone in our party was mentioning that a nap might be in order. I debated going with a 4 star because the coffee is less than good. We came here seeking local flavor. And we were served a ginormous plate of it! The gourmet omelette is more just a conduit for mounds of ham and turkey, which I have nooo problem with. Delicious. The kicker though, is the pancakes. I opted to substitute pancakes for my hash browns and toast, and was served a massive pillow of pancakes. We pulled into Roseburg, due to some issues beyond our control (not a great situation) and checked into our hotel. Unfortunately, due to some room issues, we were forced to move our room and we finally got our toddler out for something to eat around 8:00pm. We were told to try the Wagon Wheel, but when we finally got there, we were told that the kitchen was closed, but the lounge was open and that they had bar food. I am not sure, but I believe that taking your toddler into a lounge automatically registers your child for CPS. So we passed, but the lady there recommended Casey's... When we walked into Casey's we got some great sideways looks from the regulars that inhabit the sticky tabled establishment, always a good sign. I could hear the banjo music, but we were hungry. My spouse (significant other or SO) grabbed a high chair but we noticed some food like substance stuck to the belt. SO said that we would ask the waitress for a rag to wipe it up when she came around. But the waitress for our area seemed more concerned with berating her boyfriend, who had arrived and sat at their counter, about him not being where her kids were supposed to be dropped off. That was fine, as we understood family issues. Now there were 2 other tables occupied and 1 other person sitting at the counter, besides the waitresses' boyfriend. To her credit, 15 minutes later she did come over with 2 waters. I asked if they had any appetizers that we could start to get the little one started eating, but they did not. My significant other asked for something to wipe the food off the high chair so that we could seat the child and a kids cup so the little one could have some water. Another 10 minutes later the SO gave up and just grabbed another high chair. The waitress saw her and asked "do you still need the rag?" SMH. During the additional wait, another server had popped her head into the ice cream machine and yelled, "Is this thing broken?" Which it was, so for us no shakes as we had planned to order off their menu were available. Anyway, 10 minutes later the waitress, still trying to get her domestic life worked out, came over. When asked what we wanted to order, the SO stated that we would like to get the wee one some mac and cheese. But the server stated, "I think we are out". She went and checked, and came back and stated, "yeah, we were out yesterday, and we still don't have any, sorry" I didn't say what I was thinking, but we just left. The whole time we were there, no kids cup for the tyke at all. As a restaurant, how in the hell are you out of macaroni and cheese for 2 days? Is this communist Russia? Do we have bread lines? For cripes sake, go down to Cash and Carry, Costco or Safeway and pick up some noodles and cheese sauce. Also, wipe your damn tables, flies were sticking to them like they were stuck in a tar pit. There is a new invention in the last century, it is called general purpose cleaner...go get you some. Stop wiping your tables with dirty rags and whatever else you are using. Not sure where these other reviewers were eating, but the service is horrible and the only smile we saw were on the faces of the flies asking to get loose of the slurry topped tables. A nice, homey restaurant not far off I-5. The food is quite tasty and portions are LARGE. I ordered the Casey Hot Omelette with Polish sausage, jalapeños, cheese, and lots of veggies. Excellent! I swear you have to be over 50 to eat here. They have good pie though. It's a diner. Cheap eats and plenty of it. I really didn't like my chicken fried steak. The meat was not good tasting. Kind of old and rubbery. However the vegtable beef soup was passable. My parents love this place for some reason. The staff is nice but the food never did it for me.
