[[HIGHLIGHT]]Virtually empty on a holiday weekend, Sunday night[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. What drew me was a Vegan menu - Beyond meats and sausages in order to create Italian dishes. Bravo - or do I say Bravissimo? I ordered the vegan "Sicilian" and the star of this dish were the crispy little potatoes tossed in this veggie and Beyond sausage mix. Hubby ordered fruita del mare : clams. Muscles, shrimp, salmon over linguine. Notes: Sunday night special; 3 course for $43. Apps tried; calamari - perfecto! And two pieces of bruschetta Dessert: Tiramisu and Cheese cake Good service. Portions are big! Leftovers are perfect for lunch. And dinner. And lunch again. Overall. 8/10. Solidly good.

Cassarino's was delightful in hosting our group. They were patient with updating our reservation several times over the phone. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had a nice table on the 2nd floor that was easy for the group to find.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There are a couple weekday specials listed. They have dedicated 6 vegan entree choices, gluten free available. Authentic recipes. Sauce tastes homemade. Large portions. I got the chicken parm. Shares dessert trio. For a group of 8 they were able to separate checks. There is a cash discount. Complementary valet. If you don't see it in front, the valet will be on the other side of the street. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Outdoor seating is available.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bar on first floor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Delicious homemade rigatoni with chicken, tomatoes, broccoli and shaved parmigiana.

I was in Providence for work and was craving Italian food for dinner, so I asked the hotel shuttle driver for the best Italian food in town and she didn't even hesitate--she took me straight to Cassarino's. Let me tell you, the locals know! As soon as I walked into the restaurant I could small delicious food! I wound up ordering their special, which was homemade rigatoni in a creamy pesto sauce with chicken, fresh tomatoes and broccoli all topped with shaved parmigiana and fresh basil. This was the very first time I was served a meal in a restaurant that was so hot and fresh I had to take my time to eat it. And the portion size was hearty; enough for two meals! By the way, the bread here is superb! It had the best golden brown crust--nice and thick--and the inside of the bread was soft and warm. I was in heaven! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I thought it had a classic atmosphere that wasn't pretentious, yet it could be perfect for date night or out with friends. It's hard to describe, but just felt comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Finally, I thought the service was excellent. My server was upbeat and checked back with me regularly. Loved this place and hope to get back some day!

Food was fantastic I got the braciolla and my wife got the chicken parm. We got the stuffed mushrooms for a starter. Service was A little slow but we were in no rush. This was my first time there I will be back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Was a little confused on ambiance. Sort of a cross between high end and ready for the PC game.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Oh well

Tiramisu, creme brûlée and cannoli, all part of the trio sampler! Light, creamy and the perfect amount of sweet w/o being overbearing.

Where do I start with this review without salivating? The Federal Hill area in Providence is well-known for its contribution to the food scene here in the Ocean State, and Cassarino's changed my impression of pasta and Italian food as a whole. My friend and I wanted to celebrate our recent graduation with a night out. We started with bread and irresistible dipping oil, followed by my chicken escarole soup, perfect for a cold night. My selection was hearty, with ample chunks of tender chicken and a broth that complements it oh so well. Moving on to the main entrée, I had the rigatoni bolognese, a pasta dish generously topped with a traditional meat sauce composed of veal, pork, and beef. This tomato-based sauce had the perfect amount of seasoning and thickness to pair with the noodles. I love everything about it and could very much make it my entire personality. Generally, I always answer "yes" when asked, "Do you have room for dessert?" Yet, I shy away from picking something off the sweets menu because: A. Everything sounds great, and I'm indecisive. B. I'm afraid the portions are too big. C. I want to share something with someone, but we have different tastes when it comes to dessert. The trio sampler of mini sweets, tiramisu, crème brûlée, and cannoli, was the answer to all my problems. Each option had the perfect amount of sweetness, just enough that it wasn't overbearing on the tongue. Though I'm a sucker for all three (with crème brûlée holding a special place in my heart), the light tiramisu takes the cake for this foodie. The ambiance was great, with second-floor seating that overlooks the Federal Hills street. If you're looking for a cozy, upscale and romantic outing for the night, this spot would totally give that vibe. I've been meaning to return since my first experience because the bolognese is really worth raving about (ask my circle, I haven't shut up about it since!). Cassarino's, your 11/10 and five-star review is very well deserved. I'll be back, and that's a promise!

This is the dinner chicken marsala. Plate had penne, chicken, mushrooms, peppers, spinach, prosciutto, and a good sauce. The food was a huge portion and not so expensive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We went during dinner time and they were pretty busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is a bit crowded and small, at least in the section we were in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was quick for how big the party was!

Even a frugal financial mutant in training such as myself who doesn't venture out as much as many others here probably do knows that finding a restaurant firing on all cylinders can be quite rare these days. And yet Cassarino's manages to do so whilst making it look naturally effortless. Shout out to my outta town gal pal for recommending this shiny beacon of a restaurant as our super chill friendly send off dinner for one another. Ya see, my friend was in the mood for authentic Italian cuisine. After much deliberation, we settled on this place. And we're glad we did...even IF their portions can be rather enormous for the modest eater. Plus, it doesn't help that my friend eats like a bird, even whilst preggers. But....that's really a minor point. If you scope their website and YP prior to visiting as I often do, you'll note they offer free valet. Okay...technically nothing is free. But at least you don't pay extra for the valet service. Just be sure to arrive with cash for tipping because these guys definitely deserve one. Easiest way to take advantage of this is to arrive on the same side of the road the restaurant is on so that you may pull directly into the valet lane. If you see a dude with dark glasses approach your vehicle, you have just met your valet driver for the evening (it's not as ominous as it sounds). Hand them the keys, remove any valuables you have, then they take it from there. Immediately upon walking in, you'll spot their WiFi password on the hostess' desk; which, despite taking care to snap a quick pick for reference, I instantly forgot to bother using upon sitting at our table. XD That's probably because we both were hella distracted by the stellar waiter service, immaculate restaurant decor, and stunning food bestowed before our very eyes. The cuisine here can best be described as casual fine dining. For starters, we had the Aracini (or risotto balls for us non-Italians). Crispy on the outside, creamy and saucy on the inside. These pair perfectly with their homemade marinara sauce. But be forewarned: these babies are HUUUUGE!! I'm used to seeing these the size of your average meatball. These were about 3 times bigger. We each ate one, seeing as we still had main courses coming. 9 out of 10, totally worth taking home whatever you can't finish. The bread with garlic oil was a nice addition, too. It was reminiscent of what you'd get from the Macaroni Grill, only executed way better. The oil seasons the bread adequately. With that out of the way, we gotta talk about the Cassarino Burger I got. Now, reading the ingredients to this thing had my initial doubts. Then I reminded myself that was probably just my culinary anxiety talking and that I should simply take a chance on this thing. OH EMM GEE, does this dish ever slap! The fact that all the ingredients work in a perfectly harmonized synergy to the point where no element ends up dominating the palate, yet is still packed full of flavor is just....*mwah*...chef's kiss! To better understand this, I must take you through my bizarre thought process. See, I was worried that maybe the sweet onions and balsamic reduction would make the burger taste "off", since I'm not usually a fan of sweet and savory flavors being mixed together. However, one bite of this 10 ounce monster (yeah, more than half a pound) told me these chefs knew precisely what they were doing. Firstly, the burger itself was both seasoned and cooked to perfection! It even had a nice charred sear which added that final layer of flavor we come to love as grill masters. Second, they topped it off with crumbled Gorgonzola cheese. This offered a potency which was then slightly offset by the sweet onion and balsamic mentioned earlier. Cap it all off with a toasted bun and crispy hickory smoked bacon and you've got yourself a legit upscale burger that isn't pretentiously priced. Believe me when I tell you....this was easily worth the price! Granted, the fries were slightly overcooked, but still mostly edible. I suppose I could have swapped them out for the redskin mash or something, but....it didn't really ruin anything for me as is. 9 out of 10, would highly recommend. Overall, it was a lovely night with a grand time had by all. Hoping to check out more places around the Providence area in the coming months. Cassarino's Restaurant receives 5 ginormous burgers charred to perfection with an Italian twist out of 5.

    Clams Zuppa and Fettuccine Carbonara
    Reyna M.

Overall, the service was great, friendly and quick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is very clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We started with the antipasto which was very large, displays a nice variety of cheeses, meats and sides and definitely feeds more than 2. For our entrees we enjoyed the clams zuppa and the fettucine carbonara. The tiramisu was fantastic.

The host seemed surprised to see us despite being right on time for our reservation but we were seated right away after a quick exchange. We started the night with some seasonal cocktails. The spiced pear old fashioned was to die for. Complete with a solitary large cube and balanced flavors it was delicious. Our table had veal parm, linguine and white clam, and lasagna. Each dish was fresh and executed perfectly. It's a garlic lovers paradise but never overpowering, in a way any Nonna would approve. For dessert we split a slice of limoncello cake. The cake was so light and fluffy it was like eating air. Even the frosting was light enough where it didn't feel like we were stuffing ourselves to finish it. It's a smaller place so it gets busy quickly and can be a little loud. I would highly recommended a reservation as I don't think you'd have much luck getting a table on a weekend. There was a bar area with some seats but it's probably not easy to get a seat there either. As the old adage goes, if a restaurant is full all the time there's a good reason why ;)

We have friends in the area who had heard of the place, but had never gone, so we made a reservation (2.5 months ahead for a 4 some on a Friday, so it must be special...) and finally got to see what the fuss was about. (Still wondering.) We started with what ended up being a high point, "beets and frites." A very interesting take with a lot of frites, not enough beets (5 slices under the stack), and about 2 tablespoons of the lemon aioli. The few tastes of the 3-part combination were great. The frites, crisp and soooo thin, were good on their own. The olive oil that came with the bread was very green (young), with a strong flavor but I was surprised that there was no pepper grinder. I had the (special) cod, which came with a lazy prep of broccoli rabe and OK potatoes. The fish was cooked well, moist and fresh, but I'm still not sure what the flavorless green topping was. Our table also had oxtail ravioli, which consisted of tasty little purses of thin pasta and nicely flavored meat inside. (Probably the best entree, and gained the second star.) The eggplant was unremarkable in terms of flavor of the sauce, and the veggies that went into it did not seem to be very fresh. For dessert, we had rhubarb peach tart and chocolate bread pudding. The tart was mostly crust and very shy on the rhubarb. The bread pudding apparently used Hershey's chocolate powder which was not a great flavor and left a grainy texture. The server was not very friendly, somewhat pushy, and insisted that we order the dessert when we ordered everything else. Allegedly, this was because the dessert is made to order, but we had the impression that it was to expedite our table time. Even so, with all that "careful planning" only 3 of the 4 entrees made an entry and we waited quite a while for the 4th to show up, even after asking. Overall, not a good experience and not a place I'll plan to revisit.

Our server, Dwight, seemed rushed and inattentive throughout the evening. From the start, we felt like an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. We asked if we could move to a nearby table that was already set for eight, as our current table was cramped and located in a very tight walkway where people constantly brushed past us. We were told the table was reserved, yet from the time we arrived just before 6:00 PM until we left at 8:45 PM, no one was ever seated there. It was frustrating, especially since the cramped space made our dining experience uncomfortable. Service overall was lacking. Dwight rarely checked on us, and when we tried to get his attention for drinks or assistance, he would quickly pass by before we had the chance to ask. It often felt like we were bothering him. We were not offered water, and getting additional beverages was unnecessarily difficult. The food itself was just okay, nothing memorable. When we ordered dessert and cappuccino, the cappuccino tasted like it was made with spoiled milk, but again, no one came back to check on us, so we had no opportunity to address it. The most disappointing moment was the birthday acknowledgment. We asked for a dessert with a candle to celebrate an 85th birthday, and instead received a plate with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate, a small amount of whipped cream, and a candle. It was underwhelming and, honestly, a bit embarrassing. We would have gladly paid for a proper dessert. Jacob the busser was the only attentive one there. We have come to Pane e Vino every year for family birthdays because we've always enjoyed the atmosphere, but after this experience, we will not be returning.

Our favorite drink for a night out is a dirty martini extra dirty. The martinis here are NEVER cold enough. They are legit luke warm. So we have learned to ask for them extra shaken here. Not only were our martinis still not cold, but they were clear aka not dirty. We sent them back based on the color and our server brought the same martinis back with a side of olive juice. After trying them with the extra juice they had a dirty water taste to them, almost like the ice used to shake them was dirty, which is ironic considering they were barely cold. I hate to do this but we sent them back again and let the server know they simply didn't taste good and also were not cold enough. He ended up going back and making them himself and they were much better but STILL. It shouldn't be this difficult for a bartender to make a very standard drink. The food unfortunately was also very mid. The table behind us actually sent their food back twice as well and the manager had to come over. It's also worth noting I put in the reservation it was my husband's birthday and there was no acknowledgement of it at all. This restaurant is meant to be a splurge for a nice dinner out and honestly was not up to par at all. $300 dinner for two and I was extremely disappointed. Honestly don't think we will be back.

In my mind, it's how all casual Italian restaurants must've been back in the day. The stuffed artichoke is a must. Chicken and eggplant parm are both fabulous. One of the coziest spots to visit in the winter and around Christmas. The girls who work here are all so friendly. Definitely worth your dinner plans!

We sat down, looked at our menus, and about 10-15 mins later we got our waters. When we ordered our food, I asked if they had capellini for my Chicken Francese. Our waitress responded, "No, we don't, but the closest thing we have to it is linguini...but we also have angel hair, penne, and spaghetti." I was a bit confused; capellini is much closer to angel hair than linguini! Same with spaghetti! Brushed it off and my BF ordered a chicken piccata. Couldn't help but notice that the 4 people behind us (who were there before us) didn't order their drinks or food until about 10-15 mins after us, but they got their food 35 mins BEFORE us (we actually started keeping track, we were there for 45-50 mins at this point). We got our food and my boyfriend was very confused because they delivered a chicken Marsala instead of his chicken Piccata; I didn't even notice. He only orders chicken piccata from one other place, so it took him a minute to realize what he had been served... he tried it, thinking that we could just wrap up our experience since we were already running late, took 2 bites and said it wasn't something he liked so he put it at the end of the table. Unfortunately, I had already finished my meal by the time the waitress came over to check on us. No apology for messing up his order, but a, "oh, would you enjoy this?" My boyfriend was stunned. The piccata came out 15-20 mins after this interaction. I enjoyed my chicken Francese and he enjoyed his picatta. Luckily, our shrimp cocktail and peroni were comp'd but I'm not sure why they couldn't just take the meal off at that point -- it was like $4 extra for something that we didn't order in the first place. We were about 30 mins late to the game that we planned well ahead for. Maybe it was a bad night, but this was not a good first impression. TLDR: Service was horrible, food was good.

Costantino's Venda Bar & Ristorante falls squarely into that second category for me. Years ago, when I was living in Providence, Friday nights often meant a trip to Federal Hill and a pizza from Venda to take home. It became such a regular thing that the drive over felt automatic. Even now, whenever I'm on the Hill and trying to decide where to eat, this is usually one of the first places that comes to mind. I've eaten here enough times that I honestly think I've worked my way through just about everything on the menu. That's not an exaggeration. The impressive part is that I can't think of a meal that left me disappointed. Whether it's pasta, seafood, pizza, or one of their specials, the food is consistently good. In a restaurant business where consistency can be surprisingly hard to find, that's worth recognizing. The wine list deserves a mention of its own. If you're a wine enthusiast, you could spend a lot of time exploring the selections here. I know I certainly have, and I'm afraid to calculate how much money I've spent doing exactly that over the years. No regrets, though. The staff behind the bar know what they're talking about and are always happy to make recommendations. The same goes for the cocktail and spirits selection. Friendly, knowledgeable, and never pretentious. Don't skip dessert, either. Every time I tell myself I'm too full, I somehow end up looking at the dessert menu anyway. One thing I appreciate is the parking situation. Anyone familiar with Federal Hill knows parking can sometimes feel like a competitive sport. The valet service is especially helpful on busy Friday and Saturday evenings. If valet isn't your thing, there are independent lots nearby, and occasionally you'll get lucky and find a spot on the street. During the warmer months, sitting outside in DePasquale Square is one of the best dining experiences in Providence. Good food, a glass of wine, live music drifting through the square, and people enjoying the evening. It's hard not to have a good time. One practical note: I'm a cash guy, so it doesn't affect me personally, but friends have mentioned there's a processing fee when paying by card. Just something to be aware of before the check arrives. It's also a great place to stop for an afternoon drink before heading elsewhere in the city. Whether you're settling in for a full dinner or just grabbing a glass of wine and people-watching for a while, Costantino's Venda Bar & Ristorante continues to be one of the most reliable spots on Federal Hill. Some restaurants have great nights. This place has been delivering great years.

The food and service were outright bad, and I got very sick. I ordered a Ceasar salad which featured soggy, browning lettuce glopped with dressing, and a pasta dish that had bizarrely sweet vodka sauce with way too much cinnamon or nutmeg in it. It was topped with extremely dry chicken that tasted at least days old if not defrosted from the freezer. My companion ordered a desert of churro-ish pastries topped with Nutella and the Nutella was (again) glopped on so excessively she couldn't eat more than a bit of the dessert. This kitchen really needs to work on their saucing and presentation. But the fact that I got so sick is what prompted me to write this review and warn other diners. There is a big difference between not being impressed by food and being made ill by it. i do not have a sensitive digestive system and this was BAD. We thought our waitress was extremely brusque. She finished our sentences in impatience and seemed to be very unhappy to have to deal with customers. We were laughing throughout our meal about how much she seemed to hate people and how that was not a great fit for someone in the service industry. And someone might want to tell the busboy that asking someone three times if they want a box and then responding, "OK, THROW IT IN THE TRASH??" is not a very appetizing thing to say to diners. He was trying hard but he was not properly trained.
