We stopped here for a quick lunch and we liked our experience. I got an egg and cheese sandwich (on a toasted wheat bread) and my niece got a delicious blueberry muffin. The lady working behind the counter was really nice and friendly. My sandwich was nicely toasted. Sometimes you go to places and they barely toast the bread. This one was brown and crisp, very well done. The egg and cheese inside were tasty as well. The muffin was not too sweet and it was fluffy. Very good. Overall a great place for a bite. read more

I was at Roberto's restaurant on a Friday night and I was very disappointed with how they run the restaurant. The servers were running around like crazy. They were amazing But I couldn't believe that there isn't a hostess and no bussers! One of the servers was at a table taking an order and the phone rang and she had to leave the table to answer the phone. Then she had to greet people who coming in. How do they expect their servers to do their job when they have to do the job of others. Where was a manager? Not in sight. Do you think he or she could have stayed at the hostess stand and do the job that one of their servers had to do? If they are too cheap to hire people to do the jobs they are making their waitresses do then maybe they shouldn't be open. I have never been in a restaurant that was run so poorly. The severs were amazing and the food was delicious. But I don't think I will be going back. read more

We live nearby and stop by now and then. Tonight, on a cold and wet evening, we decided to make a reservation and head out. It's a small and cozy space but other people had the same idea as we did and so it was busy, in a nice way. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed; there is no rush to order. If you want everything to come out quickly, then be prepared for a little wait as everything is made to order and takes a bit of time. It's worth the wait however as the food is excellent, the drinks are well prepared. There is a lovely wine selection and the cannoli for dessert was light and just enough. The service was friendly and not too intrusive. Highly recommended, especially if you like a good Italian meal. read more

It had been some years since I had been here and went with three friends. I am glad we did so. The place is cosy and simply elegant. The staff was attentive and helpful. We ordered a calamari and the beet salad both of which were tasty. Other dishes followed: an excellent veal saltimbocca, sausage cavatelli, beet salad (again) this time with scallops, and spaghetti & meatballs. We shared two flans for dessert. For once we did not order wine or other drinks as each of us were driving back to Providence. This is a restaurant I would highly recommend if one is in the area. It is well worth the expenditure. We have been wanting to go to Roberto's for a long time but finally had the opportunity last. Our sisters invited us to join them for dinner and they had reserved a booth in the back (one of two in the back. Right away the atmosphere in the restaurant and in that space was very pleasing. Even though the place was busy, the noise level was just right. We started off with apps: soup of day for hubs - a tomato basil, pasta fagioli for sisters and beet salad for me. The soups were thick and flavorful and the servings were big. Mains were veal saltimbocca (veal with sage, prosciutto, mozzarella in a wine sauce, served with mashed potatoes and broccoli), mushroom ravioli (in a delicate cream sauce) and grilled swordfish steak ( juicy with great seasonings). For dessert (and yes we had room as the meal was just right portionwise - filling but not overwhelming), we had Roberto's flan, tiramisu and lemon mascarpone cake. All delicious! The service was wonderful, Our server was attentive and friendly and she anticipated our needs. The main restaurant isn't that big so reservations are recommended. If you have a party of 4 or 5, ask for a booth when you make the reservation! We will definitely be back. read more

I have a group of friends where everytime we all a weekend we all meet up we make at least one morning trip to Roberto's for breakfast. With recent full breakfast being added the spot is even better! The staff is amazing, the service is quick, the food is good, what else is there to want? They have alcohol, they have fun drinks, they have good coffee, they have sandwiches, omelettes and pastries, and they have bob ross on the tv.... Five stars read more

Dined recently at Roberto's on a cold Saturday night. Both the bar and table areas were busy, but seemed adequately staffed to handle the traffic. Interior is attractive and, while crowded, not distractingly noisy. Our server was attentive and professional. Our appetizer, calamari, was crispy, hot and delicious, with just the right amount of pepper rings and a bed of fresh arugula. But then we waited for an hour for our main courses: short ribs and veal saltimbocca. The short ribs had a tasty sauce, but resembled pot roast slices more than the traditional short rib. The accompanying risotto (rather than the advertised gnocchi, was good, but the mixed-in peas were starchy and bland. The veal dish was good, with a delicious white wine demi glaze. The mashed potatoes were good and the generous vegetable (broccoli crowns) crispy and good. The wine list was more then adequate and fairly priced. read more

A friend and I showed up without reservations one night a couple of months ago. We had to wait 10-15 minutes, but the staff was able to accommodate us with a table in the cafe. I guess it becomes an overflow space on some nights. I'd like to go back and eat in the main room because it looked so charming, but the cafe felt inviting and the service was surely the same. The drinks were great, but most of all the Shrimp Nina was one of the best Italian restaurant meals that I have ever had. We had stopped coming here for years when this was owned by the original owners. Food had really gone downhill and we never felt comfortable, we always felt like we were being rushed. It always had a stuffy ambiance that was off putting. We started going back after the new owners took over and love it. Casual relaxed atmosphere, great service, and best of all the best Italian food in the East Bay. My 2 go to dishes are the chicken parmigiana and the eggplant parmigiana. Both are the best I have ever had. Love the meatball and fried mozzarella appetizers too. Personally I love the sauce, it elevates the dishes. Haven't had a bad meal here whether it was appetizers or main courses. Glad to see this place back to its former glory and is back on our regular restaurant rotation. We dined on a Tuesday - a slow night - although the bar was full. Service was good. Started with bruschetta of the day (with meatballs!) and a Caprese salad. The latter was outstanding - can't wait til local tomatoes are available. The "lobster alla Dena" was superb and clearly house made. I was in the mood for meat so I opted for the Sicilian spiced pork chop. Good cut of meat and well cooked but why pick this when pasta is king? We also shared a decent Banfi chianti ($36). We had a RI food fights coupon and went Saturday after 5. That was a mistake. When we walked in we were seated at the bar and presented the coupon. We were told it wasn't valid after 5:00pm. We were offered an appetizer. We felt slighted seeing the coupon is for a sandwich and it was not specified that it was not valid after 5pm. It was very poor customer service. It was not our fault we arrived after 5. If it were specified we would have arrived at that timeframe. I don't know how the food is because we didn't get a chance to try it but the customer service was poor. read more

I haven't been here since they renovated (embarrassing since I live locally). I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in the cafe - It's so cozy! Decor is trendy, yet timeless. There is a seating area with couches (on the right). There was even a basket of toys and coloring books for kids! There is also a mix of high top and low top tables, plus a bar counter plus outside seating. You have to go to the counter to place your order - the gentleman who took our order was super-friendly. I was able to order grill cheeses for my daughters (even though it wasn't specifically listed on the menu). I had the meatball sub - everything is fresh and hot. But tonight, after a local gig with some reknown musicians, as we finish a few hundred dollars of dinner and drinks, manager Paul embarrasses us, our friends, and his server, and mostly himself by turning off the music, turning on the lights and telling us to leave as it is 11:00. They say they serve till 10pm. Not so. You book a table at 9:30 (even on Open Table) and show up and are forced to order dinner before drinks, The kitchen staff has no sense of service, rush the food at you, and are determined to close the kitchen at 10. Not take a table between 9:30 and 10:00 pm. As advertised! Good luck with that. We are done. Love tbe staff. Will not spend our money there anymore. read more

Not only is the coffee great here, but the people are so lovely! I got my coffee and was ready to go and then BAM I spilled my coffee EVERYWHERE. Anyone who has been in that situation knows how embarrassing that can be and the staff jumped up to help and clean it. They gave me a free refill and assured me it was fine and to go enjoy the day. Enjoyed a night at Roberto's last night with a party of 10. Family and friends. My daughter was visiting from my and was in the mood for a good Italian . Calamari and little neck Zappa was superb. I can say every meal was excellent the apps were great!. I had the sauté scallops that was unbelievably delicious. The staff was excellent. Friendly and attentive. My classic and favorite - shrimp scampi at this cozy Italian dig still tops my chart. This deceptively simple yet complex dish is hard to do it well. Roberto always does the shrimp the justice - cooked to tender and moist inside, and crunchy and browned to perfection on the outside. The linguine is al dente and the sauce is butterly complex and sublime, all at the same time. The selection of wine is good as a good Italian restaurant should be. They carry excellent selection of wine, both red and white, from Italy, Latin America (Chile, Argentina...) Australia and Napa in the U.S. A lot more room and better outdoor dining since they moved this location from across the street. On my next visit, I will try a veal dish.
