So, can you guess what mine was?! Duh. Hot dogs! Now, over the years, I've tried all brands and kinds. This place offers some delicious ones, including brats and polish sausages alongside regular dogs. Sometimes, I like them plain. Sometimes, I like chili and cheese on them. Whatever and however you like yours, they will accommodate! Pop & Dogs is a husband and wife team just out doing what they love and enjoying it! So, checkout their FB page to see where they might be. Or, just message them to find out. They have been at their Weatherly Drive spot a couple times when I went to the VA and at their spot on Wilma Rudolph Blvd the first time I saw them. That was an incidental finding as I was looking for another place to eat at the time. But, SO glad I saw them. Read their story. It's great and I love supporting small, local businesses. You can choose your chips and drink with the combo. Otherwise, dogs are $3 and specialty ones are $4. Not a bad deal. Combos are $6 for 1 dog and $8 for 2 dogs. Pretty great deal! So, if I love them so much, why did I take off a star?! Well, because I can't sit and eat at their location. I have to take it and go. I know they're small, but maybe a portable, even plastic, garden table & chair set can be thrown in the back of their pickup truck. Sorry, I'm just not one to stand and eat. I gotta sit down to enjoy my food & drink. It'll just end up on the ground if I tried to juggle a combo trying to eat it standing up! They take cash or cards. Okay, maybe I am being picky. I'll give them the extra star just for being so friendly and having quick service. I mean, Paul did come up to my window once to take my order and to hand everything to me so I didn't have to get out of the car myself. Lol There! It's back. 5 stars!

I usually catch them at Ashley Furniture on tuesdays from 11:30-2pm, and this last time, the drinks were even bigger and I got a complimentary cookie as a surprise.

Da Grub: While picking out a treat, the dude talks me into his quiche; several to choose from but went classic w/ the Spinach & Mushroom. We had it the next morning, and it was fantastic. I'm a crust snob when it comes to any kinda pie and went right for a back corner hunk: super flakey goodness! The filling was nicely balanced, moist and delicate texture, seasoned perfectly. Served it nestled next to a smoked pork chop and apple chutney. WIN Da Service: The guy (owner?) even cares to ask how & when we planned to eat the quiche, oven or micro, sliced or whole, to day or tomorrow, etc. then wrote instructions on the lid. Niiiice, we'll be seeking him out, Orinda is closer to us, maybe we'll run into him there, definitely check him out! I wonder if he does a Sweet Potato Pie?

Daddy's Dogs delivers exactly what you'd hope for from a late-night Nashville hot dog stand. The dogs are big, have a satisfying snap when you bite into them, and look good enough that you'll be tempted to take a picture before eating them. We both went with the New York Dog: mustard and sauerkraut. Simple. Classic. Delicious. And let's be honest, when it's pushing 2:00 AM, your dining options become a lot more limited. The fact that Daddy's Dogs is there serving hot food when much of the city has called it a night earns points all by itself. Now for the plot twist. By the time we got back to our hotel, both of us were dealing with stomachaches. Coincidence? Maybe. Bad luck? Possibly. The hot dogs tasted great going down, so I'm not ready to convict anyone based on one experience. Still, I can't completely ignore it either. So here's where I landed: Good food. Convenient location. Excellent late-night option. Questionable ending to the evening. Three stars. Because while the dogs were good, my stomach and I are still debating the final score.
