We go out of our way to buy quiches and pastries at this food truck. So, so good. We are so glad he comes to Orinda each week!

Daddy's Dogs delivers exactly what you'd hope for from a late-night Nashville hot dog stand. The dogs are big, have a satisfying snap when you bite into them, and look good enough that you'll be tempted to take a picture before eating them. We both went with the New York Dog: mustard and sauerkraut. Simple. Classic. Delicious. And let's be honest, when it's pushing 2:00 AM, your dining options become a lot more limited. The fact that Daddy's Dogs is there serving hot food when much of the city has called it a night earns points all by itself. Now for the plot twist. By the time we got back to our hotel, both of us were dealing with stomachaches. Coincidence? Maybe. Bad luck? Possibly. The hot dogs tasted great going down, so I'm not ready to convict anyone based on one experience. Still, I can't completely ignore it either. So here's where I landed: Good food. Convenient location. Excellent late-night option. Questionable ending to the evening. Three stars. Because while the dogs were good, my stomach and I are still debating the final score.

So, can you guess what mine was?! Duh. Hot dogs! Now, over the years, I've tried all brands and kinds. This place offers some delicious ones, including brats and polish sausages alongside regular dogs. Sometimes, I like them plain. Sometimes, I like chili and cheese on them. Whatever and however you like yours, they will accommodate! Pop & Dogs is a husband and wife team just out doing what they love and enjoying it! So, checkout their FB page to see where they might be. Or, just message them to find out. They have been at their Weatherly Drive spot a couple times when I went to the VA and at their spot on Wilma Rudolph Blvd the first time I saw them. That was an incidental finding as I was looking for another place to eat at the time. But, SO glad I saw them. Read their story. It's great and I love supporting small, local businesses. You can choose your chips and drink with the combo. Otherwise, dogs are $3 and specialty ones are $4. Not a bad deal. Combos are $6 for 1 dog and $8 for 2 dogs. Pretty great deal! So, if I love them so much, why did I take off a star?! Well, because I can't sit and eat at their location. I have to take it and go. I know they're small, but maybe a portable, even plastic, garden table & chair set can be thrown in the back of their pickup truck. Sorry, I'm just not one to stand and eat. I gotta sit down to enjoy my food & drink. It'll just end up on the ground if I tried to juggle a combo trying to eat it standing up! They take cash or cards. Okay, maybe I am being picky. I'll give them the extra star just for being so friendly and having quick service. I mean, Paul did come up to my window once to take my order and to hand everything to me so I didn't have to get out of the car myself. Lol There! It's back. 5 stars!

I usually catch them at Ashley Furniture on tuesdays from 11:30-2pm, and this last time, the drinks were even bigger and I got a complimentary cookie as a surprise.

It's edible and the hot dog is indistinguishable from an Oscar Meyer weiner (if it isn't the actual thing), but there's not much else to inspire anyone to stop here. One of the downsides of being tall is that I could actually look inside the stand while the server was making the hot dog. The hot dog itself was cold and the condiments didn't look terribly fresh. Plus the inside of the stand looked pretty dirty (although that did remind me of my room in college). As a minor point, they didn't have any change: I was asked if I could pay for the meal in one dollar bills (making this another place besides strip clubs where this is a must).

They have a selection of different varieties of dogs, such as the Chicago Dog, but when it comes down to the meat itself, mediocre is complimenting significantly. I am also sure service doesn't matter much at night when you're drunk, but it makes a difference when you're thinking about where to get a quick bite downtown. And the service here is also lacking. No choice of preparation but steamed, which leaves the dog a soggy mess, no care in prepping the condiments, leaving this the worst ketchup and onion dog I've had in Nashville. If you're on foot, it would be better for you to go to the Arcade, and if you're just craving a good dog, there are several places on West End and surrounding that are much better. Check out my list of good hot dogs for my recommendations.
