Usually after visiting a national park I like a good al pastor burrito, but this place had birria, and I definitely don't regret ordering a plate of tacos with a side of rice and beans. So worth it. We took a Sunday drive to Baker, California. We came across this hidden gem called Castanedas. It is very clean inside. The people working were very nice and accommodating when I wanted to change my taco salad to carne asada instead of chicken. My husband got the #8 which was two carne asada tacos with all of the fixings, beans, rice and a drink. We left paying less than $30 for two complete meals. We were highly impressed! read more

Just a quick stop as I pass through California, because my usual spot was closed. Ordered the California breakfast burrito, but it had no avocado, so it was really just a bacon breakfast burritio. It was also overpriced but tasted ok enough. Big salsa bar, the restaurant was clean, but empty. What a pleasant surprise!! we stopped at this hidden gem on our way home from Las Vegas. We saw their sign and were thrilled that we stopped. Could be better. This place is adjacent to a large, brand new Tesla Supercharging station. Baker is a great place to top off your battery when going to or from Las Vegas. Not because the battery is empty, but because this is where your bladder needs a break!! Plug in your car, walk a short distance across the lot and go in to Castenadas! Not a single car in the drive up, not a single car in the restaurant parking area, not a single guest sitting in the dining room. There are two neon signs glowing "OPEN"! So, I went inside. Two staff behind the counter scattered when I walked in...nobody at the register when I approached. A minute later, a lady appeared to take my order. Ordered a quesadilla and a soft drink to go. Since I'm now a customer I availed myself of the "customer only restrooms". Even though not busy, rest room was kind of shabby. Paper towel roll was laying in the sink..a giant roll. So after you was your hands, you have to peel off a few inches from this roll laying in the sink (wet from laying here). Kind of nasty, wiping your hands with paper towels wet from who knows what...the food is good...and would be a great place to get a snack or meal when you stop to tip off your battery...could make it a little more friendly toward people at the charger. There is no foot traffic here...so the real onky market is Tesla Supercharger guests...duh...come on Castenadas...act a little happier to see us. FYI, there is another Tesla Supercharger on the other side of Baker..has a Dari Queen in the parking area. Looked a lot busier..I think I'll try it in my return. read more

Stopped by to get a bite to eat while I was charging my car at the Tesla charging station next door. Amazing food... TLDR I grew up eating authentic Mexican food home made by my mother, who grew up on a farm in the 1940's learning to cook said food from the Mexican cowboys that came to help work on my grandparent's farm in north Texas. Her Mexican food was famous with everyone for it's authentic and amazing taste. The food at Castañedas Mexican Food is, without a doubt the best I have ever had. I ordered a combo of Chicken Burrito with a chiles rellenos, rice and beans. It was amazing. I have never had a chilies rellenos so good (made from scratch). I found out later the young woman behind the counter had made them. This place is set up like a fast food restaurant, and when I got food that good, I was more than amazed. Totally exceeded my expectation. My combination with a drink was about 17 dollars, totally worth it! read more

The Mexican food was outstanding. They have an extensive menu. Even though you have to order from a menu displayed behind the cashier the service outstanding. The ambience is nothing special. Just a few table in the dining area. The food was prepared quickly and brought to the table. If you are traveling to/from Las Vegas from SoCal and want an inexpensive place to stop for lunch in Baker I highly recommend Castaneda's. read more

Hidden gem!! Selfish me wants to keep this place a secret but they deserve to have much more traffic. I charge next to this restaurant all the time. The chargers are never busy here and they are faster. But this restaurant is awesome. Best Machaca breakfast I have ever had. My wife enjoyed her burrito as well. The food quality is top notch and reasonably priced. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I usually come alone on my way to Vegas or returning from Vegas. I've been eating at different Castanedas around Orange County CA for years. It's probably one of my favorite "Alberto's" menu clones. Most of their menus are the same, the only difference are the salsas and the La Habra Castaneda's green salsa is the best so that's probably my favorite location. This Baker location has about 6 different salsas at a salsa bar with limes and radishes. All the salsas are decent. The service here was very good. It was not busy and the girl at the counter brought out Togo bag to us when we were waiting at one of the tables. The food is decent. Not the best not the worst but consistent with all the Castenadas... My usual order is a carne asada burrito but got the loaded taquitos and chicken flautas (wife's favorite). They tasted as they should and I was not disappointed. It's a very good option to and from CA to Vegas... Especially since they are open 24 hours. The dining room was open around 930pm when I went last night. This isn't the best mexican restaurant by far but has its place for drunk nights and now midnight drives. This is the currently the only 24 hour restaurant in Baker. It's in the building that used to be Carl's Jr. And is right next to the brand new Tesla charging station and insomniac coffee shop. Most meal deals include a drink and are in the upper teens so with tax cost about $20. The food came quickly and was very tasty. I love the shredded beef chimichanga! read more

I love there agua frescas, my favorite ones would be horchata, jamaica and tamarindo there so yummy and i love how it's not to sweet it's jus perfect. There'a so manny options to choose from i love there burritos and Carne Asada Fries, They also added popsicles different type of flavors they run out flavors so fast. The lady's in the afternoon are very humbled and always give you advice of what to pick from. They gave TV's on, it's 24 hours and even have tables outside to eat. read more
