I really wanted to like this place, but it ended up being a disappointing experience overall. The one standout was the gumbo. It had a nice kick to it, was full of flavor, and the $10 cup was a generous portion. My partner and I both ordered a cup, and it was easily the best thing we ate. Unfortunately, everything else went downhill. We split the fried redfish basket, and for what it cost, it felt almost criminal. There wasn't a price listed, so getting the bill was a shock (especially because all the other baskets were $30). The fish itself was decent quality, but the breading was heavy, bland, and overwhelmed the redfish. The curly fries were unique, but they left both of us feeling greasy and weighed down afterward. Service was mixed. The hostesses were friendly and welcoming, and our server was pleasant as well, though it felt like there was a strong push to upsell throughout the meal. In the end, two cups of gumbo, one fried fish basket to share, and our total came to $85 including taxes and tip. Considering the quality of the fried basket, the value just wasn't there. If the fish basket alone was around $50, that price is hard to justify. It felt more like a money grab aimed at visitors than a restaurant focused on earning repeat local customers. read more

BLUF: Best service in Santa Rosa Beach and a menu that offers coastal and American fare. I love a fish camp! Not that I have ever been to a real fish camp but a restaurant with fish camp in the name calls to me so my sister and I visited Stinky's for an early lunch. Stinky's is an awesome spot for lunch because you can get half of a salad and half of a po' boy or half of a po' boy with a cup of soup. I was tempted by those halfsies combinations but ultimately I went with a basket. Much to my surprise, the basket could be ordered fried, grilled or blackened. I went with blackened shrimp and they were excellent - perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. So many places and people (myself included) overcook shrimp but these were timed perfectly! The basket also included tasty, crispy, big curly fries and hush puppies. What's not to love about fried dough but the hush puppies weren't my favorite. Those shrimp on the other hand . . . I am still thinking about them! I am sorry I am not remembering our server's name because he was awesome and absolutely deserves a shout out. He was super kind, attentive and personable. He had my heart when we offered me a Diet Coke to go. I'd go back to Stinky's just for his hospitality . . . And those blackened shrimp. The atmosphere is very casual and it has its own parking lot. Next door is Stinky's Bait Shop which is a unique spot offering fish and tackle, coffee, happy hour and a casual simple breakfast. Since this was my first trip to the area I had to try some local seafood cuisine and I'm so glad I did. We came in November so we didn't have to wait for a table, though there were lots of tables taken. We started with the Seafood Ceviche which was phenomenal! Thickly diced bites of seafood and chilled citrus juice made for one flavored bite after another - we couldn't stop eating it. We also had Bloody Mary's. My hubby had the Ultimate Bloody Mary and I had the regular. They weren't great, but not bad either. It tasted just like Zing Zang with no extras like olive juice, pickle juice, hot sauce or anything else to take it to the next level. He hubby had the Half a Po'Boy with Soup - Firecracker Shrimp Po' Boy and Seafood Chowder. The chowder he couldn't get enough of. The Po Boy was cooked well but the breading on the shrimp was too thick making for bread and breading heavy bites. However, the flavor was there. I had the grilled fish tacos and they were the best I've had do date. I've never had a more perfectly cooked piece of fish, but also, there was so much flavor - everything was seasoned. Because I'm a fry junkie I almost always have to try them. Theirs needed far more flavor, were overcooked and dry. The tacos and ceviche absolutely made up for it though. The decor is really fun and the restaurant has outdoor seating that gives way to a dock where you can walk around. It would be a great place to take late afternoon pics. We have eaten here every trip to Florida, and I have to say this experience was sub-par. We both ordered a cup of gumbo and received a bowl! It tasted very good, just more than expected. I ordered the fish basket and received the dinner portion! It was ordered blackened, but I did not see or taste any blackening spice. The butter sauce was adequate. We were excited to stop in. I was 1st apprehensive because the music was loud for me when we walked in. I was relieved when we moved farther away from it. Our waitress keyed our order in wrong, which caused us additional $$, but she was friendly and attentive. My husband said the fish tacos, besides the tortillas, tasted fresh. The tortillas themself were rubbery (old). I ordered the lunch catfish basket, asked to substitute the green beans for the fries and coleslaw. Was told there would be a small up charge for the green bean. Instead I got the whole meal, uncharged for a large position of catfish, and charged $5 for the green beans, the whole cost of the side was $6. I didn't know I had been up charged to a large catfish until we received the bill. I even mentioned to my husband, the portion size was huge for lunch. The fries were flat and coleslaw was flavorless. The espresso martini was good, the margarita tasted more of syrup. We opted for the key lime, saw someone had yelped best key lime ever, that is not correct lol, although it was good, but not tart. The crust is thick on the top, where perhaps that should be saved for the elbow, you lost half the filling to crust. All in all, wasn't bad, but a one time stop for us. read more

So this was our very first time to Stinky's. Me and the family went around lunch time. We were sat promptly and the server was perfect. We ordered some apps: (BBQ shrimp, and boudain sausage balls.) One major issue we had with the bbq shrimp is it was only worchester sauce, and a super small amount of butter. The sausage balls were luke warm and okay at best. For main eats, I ordered the Jimmy PoBoy as well as my father. We were both unhappy with the sauce used and on top of that the roast beef was DRY. The only positive about the food was the fries. Lets start off with the food, for starters we had the Rockefeller baked oysters and the seafood ceviche, both so so good! For my main dish I had the starter size Crawfish Pie and a side of mashed potatoes. The pie definitely had a kick to it, which took a little bit of the flavor, but very seafood-y type flavor that tasted great. If i were able to change one thing about it, it would be making it more of a pie, and having crust all around it instead of just on the top. Overall great food! The service was great, very nice, respectful, and responsive. The ambiance would have been 5/5, but a few things stopped it from that. We sat outside with an amazing view, a lot of flies disrupted the overall experience but what really can you do about that. We have been to Stinky's before but it's been a while so I figured I would give stinky's a fair shot. As a group we have the ceviche and the oysters. Both were absolutely fantastic. I ordered the catfish and honestly I think I just ordered something I wasn't too sure on. It was very good just not my type of dish. Our group had a plethora of food and everything was delicious. I believe I can't knock off stars because I ordered something that I wasn't too sure of. Overall I would recommend stinkys, the service was awesome. I had a very disappointing experience at Stinky's Bait Shack in Walton County, Florida. When I went to the bar to order a drink, Jacob was extremely rude. He cursed at me and threatened not to serve me. He was visibly shaking, and it appeared he was unable to handle the pressure of a busy bar. I also observed inconsistent ID checks. Jacob asked me and my sisters for our IDs, which is completely fine. However, I noticed that several other customers were not asked for identification, including my male family members who are the same age as us. It appeared that he was only asking female customers for their IDs, which seemed inconsistent and unprofessional. There was also inconsistency in how drink orders were handled. The customer directly in front of us was served three drinks in a single order, but when it was our turn, we were told we could only order one drink at a time. If that's the policy, it should be enforced equally for everyone. The customer service was unprofessional, and this experience left a very negative impression. I would not recommend this establishment based on the way we were treated. read more

My wife and I were on a fun drive from Panama City Beach to Destin and saw Stinky's on Yelp and it looked good from the reviews. We entered the establishment and there was a real good band playing and we got a nice window seat. I ordered an IPA from our fabulous server and a Cuban sandwich. Always my favorite! The beer was perfect and the Cuban had just the right amount of meat and mustard and the bread was crusty, yet chewy. We also ordered some Buffalo frogs legs, now I have had frogs legs in the past and the spice ws just perfect with the flash fried meat. Really great, you have to try them! During our stay in Santa Rosa Beach, FL (40-A) area we decided to stop here for dinner on the first night in town (my 18 yr old Granddaughter chose this spot ) she made a great choice! It was super crowded and we had a 30 minute wait, we actually arrived an hour before closing time! All of our food came out piping hot! I ordered the crawfish pie, delicious! My family ordered a plethora of food, everyone enjoyed their meals! The ambiance was okay, just super busy! The food was fantastic! Came here on a very busy Monday night as I was traveling West through the panhandle. The inside was cool and eclectic, but overpacked with people. I went to the bar hoping to get seated as it was just myself. The bar was very small and the bartender was a little gruff as he seemed to be overran at the time. I was finally able to get a seat by the well and was able to be served immediately. The bartender seemed to warm up a bit as things slowed and I was now seated instead of standing. I had the Gilled Shrimp & Angel Hair Pasta, which was absolutely delicious. Had a nice bottle of white wine to go along with my entree, and then ended the evening with the best Key Lime Pie I've EVER had! Th Al you for your service and for providing delicious food! Stinky's Fish Camp is a must try when in the Santa Rosa area. We were looking for a seafood spot and came across Stinky's. After looking at reveiws and pictures, we decided to give them a try, and they were a three minute drive from our AirBnB. When we arrived there were people waiting so we got on the list with our party of eight. While we waited, I got a frozen margarita that I was plotting on when I saw them on someone picture. Let me tell you, that margarita was made with love, like they make them for you in Mexico. My Yelp BFF and I like to get frozen margies and let them melt, and I tell you it was very bit of delicious even the next day. Not gone tell you I stopped in for another one while heading to the beach. Ok, so they seated us quickly, faster than excepted. We sat down to their extensive menu with many seafood dishes, most being New Orleans or Louisiana inspired. Being from New Orleans, you are sometime skeptical of restaurants like this. Let me tell you, EVERYTHING we had was delicious the Crawfish Pie, Crawfish "Mac" & Cheese, Catfish Meunière, Crispy Boudin Bites, Grilled Shrimp & Angel Hair Pasta, the Fried Gulf Shrimp Basket, and Stinky's Stew. It was so good, a few of us went back the next day for lunch. Now let me just take a moment to talk about their key lime pie, I mean made with real key limes, devine!!!!!!!!! I wanted to bring a piece home, but did not make back the night before leaving. We were thinking the owners must have some connection to Louisiana, and after looking them up, I found out they are Lafayette, LA. Checked out Stinky's again this year and had the blackened fish of the day, which was redfish and came with mashed potatoes and broccolini, which was kind of spicy. You used to get nicely cooked mixed vegetables, so this looks like another Dawson Group change. The fish was very well cooked and delicious. It was odd to see only two choices for fish of the day, redfish and swordfish. I remember the choices in the past going all the way down the chalkboard. The garlic bread also seems to have changed, not for the better. Less buttery garlic flavor. It's still a solid experience and the best blackened fish I had during the week but not special the way it used to be. Our heart is now with Down Island. read more

After having several stellar experiences at Stinky's (to the point that we always bought t-shirts there because we loved it so much), this visit was just mediocre. There was nothing "wrong" with our food, but it just wasn't as deserving of all the superlatives like it has been in the past. I got the crawfish mac & cheese. It was just shell pasta with a somewhat soupy, lackluster cheese sauce, with about 3 of the tiniest baby crawfish tails you ever saw in your life. I was disappointed, but since there was nothing technically "wrong" with it I just put a bunch of pepper and hot sauce on it & tried to make the best of my bad decision.
