Overdue review. I had my surgery back in 2016/17 I don't remember. Dr. Caster changed my life forever for the good. I was blind as a bat, I couldn't see 2 feet in front of me pre surgery, this man changed all of that. He was very sensitive when doing the procedure, explained everything to me before hand, and was very patient. He's an extraordinary surgeon. I now see 20/20 in my left eye and 20/25 in my right eye thanks to this man. I do suffer from dry eyes chronically but he did mention this before hand that this would happen. I'd rather have dry eyes than not see 2 feet ahead of me. It is more on the pricey side, but you do get what you pay for. It's been about 6 months since I met with Dr. Caster and had my LASIK surgery. I am delighted with the results. I no longer have to deal with contacts, solution, glasses, etc! I am 21 years old and before my surgery with Dr. Caster, I had severe nearsightedness with -6.50 vision in both eyes, and was basically a fish out of water without my contacts or glasses. So one day while looking at Lasik's in Los Angeles, where I go to school(UCLA) I found Dr. Caster on google and then promptly scheduled a consultation. After the fully comprehensive eye exam and consultation, from which I was very responsibly determined to be a candidate for surgery, and the 20-30 minutes I spent directly talking with Dr. Caster, about my background and general life story, I really felt comfortable with Dr. Caster and trusted him with my vision. After the consultation, he gave me a copy of his book, which fully describes the procedure and details general concerns of patients/of the procedure itself. After I read the whole book when I got home that day, I decided that there was no one else I'd rather have surgery with, considering that Dr. Caster was one of the pioneers of the surgery and was one of the 20 doctors to have had the surgery approved by the FDA. So two days ago I had surgery, and literally the next day when I went into my follow-up appointment I was seeing 20-20. It was literally like I had found freedom or was given a new life; I don't know how else to describe it. When I went to the grocery store, I was able to see things in such pristine definition that I haven't been able to see since maybe I was 4 years old. I had my Lasik done here a week ago. Life changing. Period. 'Nuff said. When I had started asking around for Lasik referrals, Doctor Caster's name was mentioned numerous times, so I made his office the first--and as it turned out last and only--stop for consultation. The second he walked into the eye exam room to introduce himself, I felt immediately at ease. I was also encouraged by a statistic that in his office: Lasik is NOT performed on 30% of the potential patients that come in for consults. "Okay" I thought to myself, "So clearly it's not just about making as much money as they can off of everyone eager to see better!" The hardest part of the ENTIRE process was just getting out of my own damn head the morning of the procedure! Once I did that? (Thank you Caster Eye Center for the Xanax.) It was cake. About twenty years ago, I had corrective LASIK surgery on both eyes by Dr Caster. This place deserves 10 stars. I went to at least 7 lasik consults and none of them were even close to the level of professionalism as the caster eye center. Although I only had my surgery done 2 days ago, I am already impressed with the results. It's like living life in High Definition!!! Dr Caster and his staff (Laura, Sidney, Roman, Etc.) are all great people. Very knowledgeable, hospitable, and more importantly passionate about their work. Never did I once feel like I was pressured to do the surgery. I was a little worried at first because the office was located in Beverly Hills. I had this prefetched notion that I was gonna get the "Upper Class, Nose in the Air" treatment because the office was in such a high profile location. Total opposite folks!!! I felt like I was treated just like some of the NBA stars rick fox and kurt rambis, who both had their surgeries done here. I like to do a little research before I invest my efforts or money into something (especially of this magnitude like my vision). Type "best lasik doctor" in google and Dr. Caster is always mentioned. He's a Harvard and UCLA graduate, and I'm pretty sure you or I did not attend those upper echelon schools. Dr. Caster has 3 top of the line lasers, when most doctors only own one. His pricing is affordable, it's not the cheapest, but it's not the most expensive. PM me and I'll let you know how much I paid. Looking back, I would've paid anything to get this surgery done by this man. Most important to me was his patient care skills. A lot of lasik centers will get you with cheap pricing advertisements, but most of those centers you never meet with your surgeon until the day of surgery. I wasn't too comfortable going that route. Dr. Caster was right there with me during my first consult, my second measurement appt, before surgery, and after surgery. That's a lot of time with the doctor. Again guys, I just had my surgery 2 days ago, I am very happy with my results, but with lasik, there are no guarantees. When I was a kid my parents used to think I was just clumsy - jokes on them I just couldn't see. I got my surgery at 21. I had been wearing glasses since I was 3 or 4. Dr. Caster and his associates are truly life changers! Several years (or...like maybe a decade) ago Dr. Caster performed LASIK eye surgery on my (formerly) blind-as-a-bat dad. He went from not being able to see his hand in front of his face to only requiring glasses to read and do computer work (but hey, he's almost 60 - that's average for a lot of people of his age). Ever since then my dad had been telling me the second Dr. Caster said my eyes were able to be operated on that I'd be getting the surgery. I had that surgery several months ago now and things could not be better. Gone are the days where I couldn't sleep over my friends house because I didn't have any contact solution. Gone are the days of sitting on my glasses because I couldn't see them on my bed. Gone are the days of having ripped contacts and painfully dry red eyes. The thing I love about Dr. Casters office is the time they take with you before, during, and after the surgery. For my initial consultation I was in the office for perhaps a good 2 hours. My eyes were examined several different times and I was sat in front of machines that I didn't know existed. Each and every machine was explained to me (and my parents), and all of my questions (no matter how dumb) were answered. I was shown DVDs explaining the procedure, given Hershey's Kisses to nibble on, and given a book and other literature about the procedure to read. The day of my surgery I was taken in, given some Xanex to calm my nerves and a teddy bear to cuddle. I had had a dental surgery several days before so my face was severely swollen (it was a weekend of surgeries for me), and the staff took the upmost care when putting on the eye clamps to not hurt my face too badly (the clamps were painful for me because of the swelling on the right side of my face; the left side just felt awkward but not painful, but the right side did hurt a little bit). I loved that during the procedure Dr. Caster explained exactly what was happening at every single step. The procedure is not at all scary - the weirdest moment to me personally was when they lift the "flap" in your eye and you go from "seeing" (as in how you see without glasses or contacts) to everything being completely blurry. It's a very interesting/weird moment and it makes you realize that this is truly happening and you will soon be able to see. While I was having my procedure my dad was observing through the glass window, there was also another gentleman who was having his consultation for his LASIK and the staff asked me if it would be okay for him to watch. I was fine with it. As soon as I sat up from the operating table I was able to see! Not blurry see . . . but actually see. My vision was clear - although it was a little bit like waking up from a nap and still being sleepy. I was amazed, and the guy who was watching my surgery asked me a few questions - I could see him perfectly, I could read the clock perfectly - I wanted to cry. . . but I wasn't sure if that would mess up my eyes. I was given some glasses to cover my eyes, some drops to put in them, and some sleeping pills to go home and rest with. My dad had to drive me home, but the very next day I was able to go to the office by myself. It takes a while for your vision to settle, and sometimes it'll be clear and other times a little bit more fuzzy - but by both of my follow up appointments I was able to see. For the first time in my life I have 20/20 vision. I can finally get that ugly "Corrective Lenses" note removed from my license, I can finally put my head underwater and swim in a pool, I can finally shave my lower legs in the shower and not cut my ankles open every single time. Recovery was awesome. The Dr. gave me a call after several hours to see how I was doing. I was given plenty of antibiotic drops, dryness relieving drops, and steroid drops to help with my recovery. I can keep going on and on and on about how fantastic everything was. Everything about this office is just simply amazing. From the demeanor of the staff and their very professional manners, to the cleanliness of the office, to the way that everything is described to you. Did some research but eventually landed here thanks to yelp, the story inside Los Angeles Magazine, and a tv news interview of Dr. Caster. 1OO for the eye consultation and about 6OOO for both eyes. Yes, definitely not the cheapest, but because I am an artist, my eyes are extremely important to me. I don't want no "2OO per an eye cutting the corners" surgery kthnx. The receptionist lady was super duper friendly and bubbly.. it's like she's on happy pills or something. She reminds me of the "woohoo" girl on Robot Chicken. FO SRS. The counselor was also very happy and nice. I may be wrong, but partial to their disposition may be due to their pretty decent wages... I'd be happy working in an office that's constantly reeling in 6 grand per a patient haha. But anyways, the actual surgery was about 5 min total and you get a tote bag with some goodies lol. I'm a photographer, very cognizent of my vision and there's no way I would put my eyesight in the hands of a so/so doctor or technology. My search landed me in Dr Caster's office for a consultation, which didn't take long into for me to decide this was the guy to perform my corrective Lasik. Dr. Caster was the first doctor in LA to start performing Lasik on patients, and had it done himself, as a test subject before he was willing to put patients under the beam. You know a guy has dedication to perfection when he's willing to use himself first and foremost! Dr. Caster treats every patient himself, which is HUGE in my mind. They make sure they use the latest and greatest technology, are extremely thorough in providing information before the procedure and making sure they have their ducks in a row. Excel at making you feel comfortable and at ease before and during the procedure. And have impeccable follow up with 18 months of checkups and free corrections (if necessary). I went in with a stigmatism in one eye and right out crap vision in the other. So my corrections had to be unique for each eye. The procedure itself takes no more than a couple minutes, start to finish. I think actual time under the laser was probably 30 seconds per eye. Incredibly fast and utterly painless. I woke up the next morning, went for my follow up and my vision had gone from 20/2500 to 20/10! It's remained so for 3 months now! The gift of sight is worth any price, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else. Laura rocks!!!! A LITTLE ABOUT ME I am a 42 year old visual/ digital artist who was incredibly nearsighted before correction. I have worn glasses since the 9th grade and contact lenses starting in the 11the grade. My vision was about -6.75 and -6.50 without any correction. Without contact lenses, I was unable to even read a book that was about 2 inches from my face. My research about LASIK was pretty in depth prior to surgery. Therefore, I did not go into it "blindly". MY STORY In 2001, I started doing research about LASIK. I found Dr. C through a co-worker. The meeting went well and, after all the measurements, Dr. Caster informed me that my pupils were too large and that I would face nighttime issues if he did the procedure. The price was pretty high too ( somewhere around 2800 per eye). So, I decided to wait until the technology caught up with my expectations. What I really liked was Dr. Caster's honesty. He turned me away by stating my pupil sizes were a touch too large for the procedure right now. Though he said he could do the procedure, he recommended I wait. And so, bummed with this news, I walked out. Fast forward to 2012....I woke up one morning frustrated at how my eyes were rejecting my contact lenses. My allergies were in full effect and I couldn't wear lenses without feeling sand was in my eyes. So, I just decided to go ahead and try out LASIK...again. It had been over 11 years and I thought maybe my eyes were different now. I called several LASIK places and chatted with them. . I then remember the pleasant experience I had over at Caster's Eye Group. I gave them a call and spoke to Laura. She informed me that the screening and measurements would be around $200. I then agreed to come in and go through the initial screening process. BTW, I did contact Mahoney who charged $300 for consultation. When I asked why, the rep stated because "we are that good". Anyway..... PRE OP CANDIDACY When I arrived, they took me into my own room and studied my eyes in-depth. They checked my pupil sizes, cornea thickness, and other factors that determine your candidacy. They also talked about the procedure and what to expect. they answered my questions and showed me examples of what the outcome could be. They also discussed the risks. They checked my eyes in a dark room with no computer screens on or secondary florescent lights to muck up the test results. The team that I spoke to was highly informative. Dr. Caster and team showed me what to expect from slides showcasing what possible halos look like to what a star burst would be at night. The information was pretty general and they did have a propensity to gloss over the side effects a bit. In other words, you need to go in armed with the right questions and what you expect to have those questions answered. I did test them a little bit about information I already knew . They answered every question honestly. This was a big deal for me. SURGERY DAY They were incredibly gentle and easy going. The nurse asked me how many scotches does it take you to get drunk. I told her 6. She then gave me two Zanaxes and I relaxed. The nurse hung out with me and chatted about life in LA. Thereafter, they walked me into the room with the big laser. I hugged a teddy bear, it was a touching Hollywood moment.......anyway...... The procedure was quick and easy! That night, Dr. Caster called me to check up on me. All good! POST OP AND ON So, then I went to a bunch of check ups and I would tell them how I loved my day vision but was not too happy with my night vision. My vision was now almost HD quality but I had to struggle with dryness, halos and starbursts at night. My contrast sensitivity was not too great either. Driving at night sucked. Gradually, these symptoms started to improve. After multiple visits, Dr. C said I needed a touch up due to regression. That touch up did the trick and my vision was great. After the touch up, I had to wait another 6 months to get the end result. OVERALL FEELINGS My vision is perfect and pretty happy! Dryness is all gone. But I do suffer from glare and some night vision issues. These are not dramatic as they were when I first got the surgeries but I do wish I had been warned about the glare. It can get a little bothersome. So there are some small side effects but nothing I didn't expect going in. Do yourself a favor and do all the research you can about the procedure. DO NOT RUSH INTO IT! READ EVERYTHING ( BAD & GOOD)! Caster and his team are excellent and I highly recommend them! Also, they are always available to help ease your anxieties if any! read more

This review is 13 years overdue... Dr. Caster did my lasik surgery in 2001 and my eyes are STILL doing great. If you're thinking about going to a different doctor, stop it! Dr. Caster should be your only choice. A few friends of mine who had their eyes done after me and went with other doctors are having to now go back for a "touch up." This is probably one of the pricier places for LASIK, but hell - it's your only set of eyes! Obviously LASIK is not without some risk, but I can tell you my experience was fantastic. TLDR; GO TO DOCTOR CASTOR HE'S AMAZING! I was referred to Dr. Castor by a friend. I've always had really bad eyesight growing up, my left eye at -11.25 and right eye at -10.75. I was told that I had very thin corneas and probably would not be a very good candidate for lasik before. Then I went to Dr. Castor and he told me I am candidate for PRK (aka advance surface treatment) but not Lasik because my corneas are too thin and there is too much to correct. PRK is the exact same procedure as lasik except it is done on a different surface of my eyes; instead of cutting a flap like lasik does, PRK does it on the surface of the corneas. I was told to not expect perfect vision, that I might still have to wear glasses with maybe a -1.00 to -2.00 since my prescription was so high. But I went in for a follow up today and can see with a 20/30 which is AMAZING for the first day post treatment! I was also able to drive today and do normal daily activities. Dr. Castor told me I'm doing better than expected so he thinks I could get a 20/20 vision. He is amazing and I would recommend him to anyone who wants to get an eye correction surgery, he has done over 30,000+ procedures and is great at what he does. The procedure is a little bit pricey, but I promise it is definitely worth it. He explained all the risks, gave me all my options and even called me after my surgery to check up on me. He also gave me a copy of his book after my first visit so I can read up on PRK and what my vision would be like post treatment. Also all the staff at Castor Eye Center are wonderful, they're so friendly and welcoming. I honestly cannot thank Dr. Castor enough, I used to only be able to see colors, no shapes only colors without my contacts/glasses, and now I'm able to see everything clearly. If you're still on the fence about getting lasik, just go for an initial eye exam appointment and talk to Dr. Castor, he will explain all your options and recommend the best treatment for you. I wanted to find the best doctor here and it turns out that Dr. Caster isn't just the best doctor in town but the guy period for LASIK. I decided to go ahead with it and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Dr. Caster and his staff are very thorough in addressing any questions or concerns you may have. THE BEST LASIK EYE SURGEON AROUND!!! That was my experience going to Caster Eye Center... I had poor vision since high school and never wore contacts, but had glasses for years. I finally saved up enough to look into Lasik and boy, do I wish I did it years ago. Everything from the initial exam to see if you are a candidate, to the actual procedure (Short and entirely pain-free), to the follow-up appointments makes it so that I cannot recommend this place enough. The staff is attentive, you are seen on time, the space is clean and they have by far the newest technology there is. Literally they have two options for lasik, the old school method which is cheaper and the newest wave laser there is which is what I did. I called 4-5 different places before coming here and while most were priced similarly, I figured it was worth it to pay a little more to know you are in THE BEST hands possible with something as important as your eyes. The procedure itself is literally 1 minute long, 15 seconds on each eye and a total of 2 machines. The next morning I woke up seeing 20 20 and no pain or discomfort. Here I am one month later and just found out I am now seeing 20 15 which is even better. I would have never imagined that such a short procedure could make such a dramatic difference in my life. My vision was never as horrendous as I'm sure the normal person seeking correction's would be (20/40 and 20/60). But I am the type of person who loses things like glasses at the drop of a hat and have a number of hobbies where better vision would be a huge boon. After hemming and hawing for a while I did the research and picked Caster Eye Center. I'll admit the prospect of surgery, especially on my eye, terrified me. But honestly it was barely noticeable. A bit of pinching and staring at a light followed by a day of sleeping. It was almost laughably easy. I came out of it with at least 20/20 vision and it's been heavenly to be able to sit at the back of a meeting and read the screen. The staff was amazing, I always enjoy chatting with the front desk while waiting for my appointments, and Dr Caster was very competent. The only complaint, as nit picky as it is, is that I was really hoping for better than 20/20 vision -- and I did have (or at least seemed to) that the day after surgery before healing set in; once I hit the 20/20 benchmark in my followup I never heard a word about if things could be any better. Still, probably would be dumb to risk even something as safe as a correction to get a marginal improvement. read more

It's been 5 years since I had my laser surgery. My vision is better than 20/20 and I have had no complications at all. I did A LOT of research before choosing Dr. Caster, and I definitely made the right choice.
