I don't usually write Yelp reviews but my Lasik experience with Dr. Caster was so wonderful that I felt compelled to share how phenomenal the team is so other Yelp review readers could hopefully benefit. A family friend referred me to Dr. Caster after her successful Lasik procedure several years ago. I only recently learned that I was a candidate for Lasik, having thought for the last 10+ years that my eyes weren't "bad enough" to get it done. After a consultation with a different eye doctor on the westside that left me feeling less than confident and even more anxious than I already was, I heeded my family friend's advice and called Caster Eye Center. I spoke to Laura in Dr. Caster's office who was beyond kind, understanding, reassuring and accommodating, and even answered the phone just as she was about to close out the office for the evening. I expressed my concern with that other doctor I saw and Laura took her time with me on the phone to go over my questions while also setting an appointment for me with Dr. Caster that next week. Every step of the process from the helpful and warm front desk receptionist to my consultation with Laura to my actual pre-op appointment with Dr. Caster was not rushed in any way, was very thorough, and I felt like my concerns, anxieties and questions were all addressed. The days leading up to the procedure were filled with severe personal anxiety all of which was quashed and cared for the minute I got to the center. Even in the waiting room the morning of the procedure, other patients comforted me having had their own positive experiences with Dr. Caster. Usually waiting rooms are uncomfortably antisocial places. This was absolutely not the case. I felt like I was spoken to as an adult. Everything was clearly described step by step and ultimately it was a quick, painless procedure. Dr. Caster even called me later that day to check on me and answer any lingering questions. I'm on Day 1 after the treatment and feel like this was one of the best decisions I've made. I drove to my post-op follow up without my prescription sunglasses and I could read street signs clearly from a distance unlike before. I can't speak highly enough of the team at Caster Eye Center and would recommend them wholeheartedly. Unequivocally, THE BEST experience I have ever had in a doctor's office. The office is impeccably clean, modernized, and welcoming. Checking in was very quick and I had a 2-minute short wait until my name was called to begin the consultation. I am sure you have heard the phrase, "You only have one first chance to make one first impression that lasts a lifetime.." And this is what I intrinsically felt when I met Laura, my patient care coordinator. If authentic customer service had a picture, Laura would be the model for everyone to follow. She was warm, friendly, approachable, knowledgeable, with the best sense of humor and spirit. Fortunately for me, my consultation visit began AND ended with Laura - what an incredible experience. Alicia was my laser specialist who conducted a good part of the examination and testing. Alicia conducted much of the exam and was so patient with me as she took her time to answer each and every question that I had during the testing. Dr. Caster has the presence of confidence and experience, centered around his natural ability to have an honest conversation about the options that were available to me for further treatment. There was never a time where I felt pressured to make a decision and never a time where I felt a sales push. My entire experience was about "me" and the multiple options given to me. The best doctors do not need to create an environment like you are buying a new car. The best doctors create an experience that when you leave the office (and while walking to your car) you immediately begin hoping and praying that they can find an opening in their calendar to schedule the surgery. I am the patient, the client if you will, however I am the lucky one in this incredible opportunity to proudly say that I am a patient of Dr. Caster. Surgery in two weeks! I have been nervous about getting LASIK for many years. My super neurotic friend came to Dr. Caster and said it all went fine. If he could do it, I could do it. So I called up. Laura answered. I had 37 questions. No joke. I had them written down. She answered every single one with patience, knowledge, and kindness. Immediately, I knew I was in good hands. I went in for my consultation and Dr. Caster was friendly, kind, and also knowledgeable, and I was put at ease by his great team that feels less like a team of workers and more like a team of a family. Every single one is knowledgeable, patient; everything you'd need and want when having surgery on your eyes. Literally after the surgery I could see fine minus the normal side effects. And recovery has been easy as anything. The most uncomfortable part of the entire process was having to wear my glasses for the week before (I used to wear contacts since glasses made my eyes strain and tired). I did the PRK procedure (aka "Lasek") because of the decreased chance of dry eyes. Dr. Caster explained details of each to me. He said I could do either; I chose PRK to decrease the risk of dry eyes. I understood the healing time is longer for PRK and could be up to three months. (Naturally these healing time frames preclude the 4% for whom an adjustment is needed. This was communicated clearly from the beginning.) 16 weeks after the procedure I can't read without glasses, contacts are no longer an option (they burn my eyes), my eyes are more dry than before, and I cannot drink a glass of wine without severe dry eyes the next day. Drops do not help. Dr. Caster advised me to wear the glasses for up to 12 months before I consider having an adjustment. He believes they will get better on their own within a year. I specifically asked "What is the maximum time for PRK healing?" The answer before the surgery was up to 3 months but usually a week or two. But at my 3 month check up, his answer was it could take up to 12 months. I discussed the healing time discrepancy with Dr. Caster. He said he was sorry for any misunderstanding (placing blame on neither party) and refunded me $2000 of the $6000 fee. He said to send him the bill for any adjustment surgery by another doctor, if needed. I went to another doctor to get a second opinion on what to do next. (This doctor knew he would not have me as a future patient as I planned to move abroad the following week.) He said he had the utmost respect for Dr. Caster but was surprised he recommended PRK instead of Lasik for me and surprised the ultimate decision was left to me. He was also surprised Dr. Caster recommended waiting 12 months instead of 3-6 for an adjustment. I do not believe Dr. Caster is a poor clinician. Clearly most patients are ecstatic about their results, and why not - Lasik is a fairy tale come true, truly amazing technology. I do not doubt Dr. Caster made every effort to perfect my vision. My one-star rating is not due the fact that I now wear glasses - nothing in medicine is ever guaranteed to work - but due to 1) what I perceive as poor communication and/or misinformation regarding the healing time and 2) the fact that the ultimate decision to have PRK vs Lasik was left to me, the patient. It ended up being the wrong choice. Get multiple opinions, then decide. It is worth the price of the consults. read more

If you are considering laser surgery, you can end your search here. I am no doctor, but I did plenty of reading, got suggestions from friends and met with 5 doctors. I believe I did enough homework to feel confident with my choice. I have not regretted getting laser surgery for a second and I am certain Dr Caster was the perfect choice. From the very beginning Dr Caster and his staff made me feel comfortable and taken care of. They are so friendly and knowledgeable. I always felt like my concerns were important. Dr Caster is a little more straight-forward and matter of fact with his approach than some of the other doctors I met. I didn't once feel like he was trying to sell me on the procedure. His track record was and product were going to sell themselves. I was almost fooled by the presentation of some of the other drs I met. Some put on a great show. I am sure they were good doctors, but they seemed more focused on being on tv or being celebrities themselves. Dr Caster seems primarily focused on helping people see better. Some of the others would do 15-20 procedures in a day. I believe Dr Caster does 2 to 7. Now who do you think is giving the most individual care. After all of my visits and reading and discussion with other patients, I decided that Dr Caster was the best, no matter the price. They gave me realistic expectations of the procedure and healing process. They never once over sold the procedure or how fast I would heal. They're estimates were very conservative. I decided on the PRK procedure as opposed to standard lasik because I am very active and practice martial arts. The healing process is longer, but I felt more confident with the end result having a more robust eye. It may have been over kill for my particular situation, but I had the time to heal ( 5 days) before I went back to work. There was only one day that had any discomfort and that is kind of an exaggeration. It was barely uncomfortable, but definitely not painful. I sat at home and rested. The healing process was gradual, but every week I could tell it was improving. I was excited to go see the Dr for my check ups to chart my progress. At first there were halos around lights at night. I wouldn't recommend driving at night for a week because the halos made it difficult to read some signs. After one month, my eye were 20/20 and the halos were gone. My eyes are still healing and improving and will for I think 6 months. I can't wait to go back for my next check-up. I am so very very happy to be free of my contacts and glasses. My vision is better than when I had contacts and I have ZERO hassle. It is nothing short of miraculous. It is absolutely wonderful. I never had to go through the hassle of taking out my contacts before I go to bed and I never have to reach for my glasses in the morning when I want to read an email or text message. I just read. After my procedure he called me to check on me. Not his staff, but him personally. This is a small detail and not that important in the big picture, but they even paid for my parking every single visit. Some of the other doctors didn't. If I am going to pay you thousands of dollars, you think they would at least pay for my parking. Nope $15 worth of parking to hear their sales pitch. That is just one more little detail that shows how Caster Eye Center takes care of you. The bottom line: If you are considering laser surgery, do it. Stop waiting. The procedure and equipment are producing safe predictable results. PRK was the right choice for me. You pick which is right for you, but just go do it. You will love it. Once you decide on the procedure. Go see Dr Caster. I am confident he is the best. He gave me so much confidence in him and the procedure. He wrote a book about it. I am amazed that there are not more reviews on here. Four of my friends went to Dr Caster and had amazing results. They all said the same thing. Stop shopping around. You already found the best. I completely concur. Dr Caster is fantastic. If I try to be critical, I can not think of a single negative thing to say about any aspect of my experience with Dr Caster and his staff. It's been 11+ years since I had Lasik surgery with Dr. Caster and my vision is still BETTER than 20/20! He's definitely not the cheapest, but I didn't want to pinch pennies when it came to my vision. And the staff was very fun and friendly! I remember the nurses were all intrigued that my ride home from surgery was a girl I had only met once, days before, when I was drunk at a party. They all hung out with me in the waiting room to get a look at her since I was fuzzy on what she looked like and wouldn't really be able to see her clearly that day either because of my surgery. They all gave her the thumbs up! Of course, this love story all became irrelevant since I came out of the closet a few years later, but, hey, it was still a fun moment with a fun group of people. I am so pleased with the level of professionalism and kindness I experienced with everyone we encountered in the office. From my first phone call I made to Dr. Caster's office to inquire about the lasik surgery. to my follow up after lasik, everyone in the office is so patient, helpful and kind. It has been exactly one week from surgery and my vision is perfect. I have experienced no pain at all. Everyone in the doctor's office was so great about telling me what I can expect in detail after my surgery and what I needed to do on my end to make my lasik as easy and comfortable as possible. There was absolutely no question as to who I would choose to perform my lasik surgery. I visited a local office in Bakersfield first, but choose to seek out a second doctor for a second opinion which I was so happy I did. There are 2 undeniable truths when it comes to getting Lasik surgery: 1) DO NOT go someplace because it is the least expensive place to go and 2) DO NOT go someplace that feels like a "factory", stacked with patients who make you feel like you are only a dollar sign ($) to the office. I went to a variety of places to look into Lasik surgery. One place in particular (a very popular 5 star yelp Lasik surgeon) who made me wait 1.5 hrs before I was seen because they were so busy shuffling prospective patients through their exams. They also told me they were not able to give me the results I was looking for. Then I went to see Dr. Caster: I had a delightful email exchange with Laura in the office who answered a variety of my questions. Personally, I did not care that the exam would cost $100 (applicable to the Lasik fee should I have it done) as I was interested in the care, results and safety that I felt I would receive. While other places whisked me through the "screening" process, Dr. Caster and his staff spent 2 hours with me, discussing the procedure, putting me through a battery of tests and allowing me "test drive" some prospective vision options by wearing a pair of mock glasses with different strength lenses to get a sense of what my sight would be if I decided to go with what would be my ultimate choice: "blended vision" whereby I would not need glasses for distance OR reading. I had the procedure done 12/22/14 and the results have been incredible. I left the office at 4pm and was watching tv at home that night. I had no pain during or after the procedure. Dr. Caster himself called my house at 7pm to check in and see how I was doing. I had a follow up appointment the next morning at 9:30 am and drove myself to the appointment. This would be the first time I drove a car without corrective lenses in 32 years! Dr. Caster is not a guy who publicizes what celebrity Lasik surgery he has performed He has more than enough credibility having gone to Harvard (both undergraduate and medical school) and trained at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA thereafter. He basically wrote the book on Lasik surgery and has performed tens of thousands of these procedures. With that said, he has peformed corrective procedures for Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, former LA Lakers Curt Rambis and Rick Fox and LPGA tour player Amy Alcott to name a few. I cannot speak highly enough of how incredible this experience has been with Dr. Caster and his staff. When it comes to something like your vision....DO NOT SCREW AROUND and try to cut corners. I highly recommend Dr. Caster for anyone interested in receiving the best and safest care with the best results. read more

I first visited the Caster Eye Center 11 years ago for a Pre-LASIK Exam. They informed me I was a good candidate. Unfortunately, I the price was not affordable to me at the time. Fast forward 10 years. I went back for another exam, and I was ready for the procedure. I was very impressed with the entire staff at the Caster Eye Center. Everybody there had at least 10 years of experience in the office, and were happy to answer any questions I had. I already knew Dr. Caster was a top LASIK surgeon, but it was great to see the rest of the team was also first class! My Pre-LASIK exam... Sidney (Receptionist) is the first to greet you. She had LASIK herself with Dr. Caster 9 years ago, so she can share her experience with you. She is very friendly and makes sure you get your parking validated on every visit. Roman (Ophthalmic Technician) ran me through a series of tests with a bunch of different machines. He is very knowledgeable, and is happy to answer any questions you have. Roman has over 15 years experience with Dr. Caster. Dr. Caster himself then came in to thoroughly examine my eyes to determine if was a good candidate. Dr. Caster took time to answer any questions I had, and didn't pressure me in the slightest to have the procedure. Laura (Patient Counselor) then went over the financial aspects with me. We worked out a plan so that I could break up the payment into two installments. The first half was due on the date of my procedure, where I used my Flex-Spending card. The second half was due in January, so that I would have a new Flex-Spending card to use. Since Flex-Spending accounts are a way to spend on medical procedures with pre-tax income, this ended up saving me hundreds is dollars. Thank you Laura! After setting a date for the procedure, I could hardly contain my excitement. I wasn't blind without my glasses or anything, but I hated wearing them. Mostly, I hated when the lenses weren't perfectly clear. A single spec of dust annoyed me. Finally, the day arrived! You need somebody to drive you home after the procedure, so my parents came with me. The longest part of the day of the procedure is watching a video and filling out paperwork. Laura takes you through all this. Next, Alicia (Laser Technician) took me back to the eye machines to do last minute scans of my eyes. Then she took me into another room to give me some eye drops and Xanax. Alicia has 23 years of experience with Dr. Caster, so it was very reassuring talking to her before entering the laser suite. Finally, they bring me into the laser suite, which is climate and humidity controlled for better results. I am given a stuffed animal (Tigger!) to hold onto during the procedure. As I am lying down, Dr. Caster asked me to look at a green light above my face, and starts the procedure by creating a flap with a microkeretome. This is the scariest part of the procedure for most people. However, having full faith in Dr. Caster, Tigger, and a Xanax, I was not nervous. There was no pain during the procedure. The most I felt was a little pressure while he was attaching the microkeretome. The best way to describe it would be like taking your palm, and pushing it against your closed eye. No pain, just pressure. After the flap is created, Dr. Caster pulls the flap back, and marks my eye with some registration marks. Then he turns on the laser. The lasers these days are fast. It was only on for... 12-15 seconds? If I couldn't hear the laser (or smell microscopic parts of the eye that were burned away) I would have never known the laser was on. You can't feel it at all! Dr. Caster then looks at the eye, does a little cleanup, and replaces the flap. Now the other eye other eye. I am now done, and Dr. Caster takes me to another room to look at my eyes and make sure everything is ok. He informs me the procedure went perfectly. I was given some goggles and sunglasses to protect my eyes, as well as some eye drops. My parents drove me home. I took a 4 hour nap as advised. After the nap, Dr. Caster called me personally to see how I was. I was fine, and determined to make sure I followed the post-op instructions to the letter. My vision was good enough to drive myself back the following day for my first follow up. Dr. Caster looked at my eyes again, and says everything looks great. Over the next couple weeks, my vision improves noticeably every day. At my two-week follow up, I was 20/15 in both eyes! I just had my one-year follow up, and everything is still great. I do not regret this decision in the slightest! From Dr. Caster, to the rest of his top-notch team, it was a fantastic experience! I have read review on some other LASIK places, and many are described as a "cattle call". Not here! At the Caster Eye Center, you get personal attention from the first Pre-LASIK exam, to the last follow-up. I couldn't be happier! read more

I am so glad I decided to go to Dr. Caster. His staff was welcoming, professional, and beyond helpful. I was nervous because the idea of keeping my eyes open longer than usual made me nervous. However, I wish I had come sooner. My overall story was a success. It's been about two months after the procedure, and I don't have dry eyes, I don't see halos, and my vision is phenomenal. My eyes were examined thoroughly by the staff and Dr. Caster, which gave me a lot of comfort. There were some options, like the kind of laser and procedure, I was able to choose, so Dr. Caster and his amazing staff informed me really well on my options. Ultimately, I don't regret it, and I recommend it to everyone. The staff will take care of you really well. Laura, the person who handled my case, and the woman at the front desk, I forgot her her name, are really friendly, down to earth, and readily willing to answer any question. Amazing, is not enough for DR Caster ! He is so patient, experienced and trustful. The fact that he had done a Lasic surgery on his own eyes, brought me more trust to the procedure. When I wanted to do eye surgery, I was totally scared, even at the last minute before I went to DR's office, I wanted to cancel my appointments. I have read a lot, searched a lot, and then decided to go to LA to have a surgery with Dr Caster. I made an appointment for 1st of July to examine, second of July for surgery, and third for check up. 2 weeks ahead, a nice lady called me from his office and said we have to change the dates, when I said I have already bought my ticket, she told me she gonna call me back. she called me back soon, and said doctor said he is sorry, and if I need to pay anything for changing my ticket, he would pay me back. This was so respectful for me, I came a week earlier, and changing ticket didn't cost me any extra. I just had to change my schedule which I did. His staffs are nice, respectful, friendly and warm as well. The way they behave to you and the office environment makes you feel calm and relax. They gave me all the information I needed, and patiently answered all my questions ( which was a lot ). Examining my eyes took two hours and half. They day of surgery, I came with other questions. The surgery went well, I didn't see clearly right away. Doctor gave me medicine to sleep for 4-5 hours after. When I woke up, I saw even better than my glasses. Doctor called my cellphone to ask how I was, also one of his staff did the same thing,and another lady of his staffs, answered the question I got at 8 p.m of the day of surgery. I had a dry eye for a first week, but now I am totally fine. Besides the great job, you will get a great respect, care and. As you can see from my posts, I'm not one to normally write reviews for restaurants or even businesses in the area, HOWEVER, Dr. Caster is the exception. I had my Lasik surgery in November of 2014 (about 3 weeks before leaving to Europe for a month) and throughout the process I couldn't have asked for a better doctor. Well worth the cost! I was pretty much blind without contacts or glasses. I was nervous to finally take the step to laser eye surgery but decided to do it when I found Dr. Caster. Dr. Caster and his staff are absolutely amazing! The doctors in Beverly Hills in general provide excellent quality of care--Dr. Caster's quality of care is on a completely higher level. I was an early LASIK patient and have had a few "touch ups" as my eyes changed. Dr. Caster was fabulous! I was extremely near sighted with a lot of astigmatism. The family joke was that I was born groping for the light switch! Such an incredible experience!!!! The staff is so sweet and calming, I'm actually sad to leave them. Dr. Caster was unbelievable!! I am not sure why I waited this long to write this review, but I had the Lasik procedure done about 4 years ago. It was literally the best thing that ever happened to me. Dr Caster's team were nice and professional, and my vision is off the charts. I finished paying it off nearly 3 years ago and haven't thought about the expense since! If you're thinking about doing the procedure, go in for a consultation. This entire experience with LASIK and Dr. Caster has been wonderful, and my results are already 20/20 one day after the procedure. I agree with many of the other patients that Dr. Caster and his staff are very professional, caring, and friendly. The consultation diagnostic was more comprehensive than at other places, and Dr. Caster explained how he determined that I was a candidate for Lasik with the Allegretto laser. Due to my travel schedule, they suggested that I postpone my surgery in order to ensure that I could also have a 1 week follow-up appointment, which is something that no other doctor suggested. Also, the personal call from Dr. Andrew on the night of my surgery was really an unexpected touch. In addition, they were very clear describing the risks during the consultation and right before the procedure, so I felt informed about my decision. The atmosphere in the office is very friendly and low-key, which really helps with dealing with any stress or anxiety. I have never left a doctor's office with such a big smile and so satisfied. I am reviewing the post I wrote earlier immediately post PRK 2 years back. After surgery on both my eyes, I am happy with the results. Right eye is almost 20-20, left eye is still healing. As it turns out, each eye is different. I am able to work on computers and drive without any glasses. I am glad that after a long wait, the results are good. I already had my lasik back in India which was not of a high quality. I am fortunate that Caster accepted to do a PRK after evaluating my eyes. Experts can create wonders! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Caster's for many years. I just left his office for my annual exam and they always make me feel special even after all these years! I had my Lasik surgery back in 2012 with Dr. Caster and my vision is still a perfect 20/20. I did a lot of research regarding laser surgeons before I selected Dr. Caster and I am really happy with the outcome. In addition to being a great surgeon, Dr. Caster also has a wonderful office. First of all, he validates for parking. I don't know of any other doctor that offers paid valet parking, especially in Beverly Hills. In addition, his office has a wonderful coffee bar along with snacks and chocolates that make the visit very pleasant. The office staff is very warm and welcoming to me which is so important. The office manager/surgery consultant, Laura, is top notch. I highly recommend Dr. Caster. read more
