Update: 10/16/2017 After filling out a review through the company's system, I received a call back from a customer service rep who graciously apologized for the service AND provided me with a full refund. I appreciate the sentiment... Not a good experience at all. I wish I had stuck with a recommendation instead of trying out castle keepers in portland. I thought I was lucky to have them come same day- but they changed my time window 1x without my knowledge. I was quoted $170 for 2 cleaners for 2 hours and expected it to be a simple job. 2 bathrooms, kitchen, 1 dining room (only needed a table wipe down and vacuum) and 1 living room. (Wipe down shelves and vacuum only) When I showed up after the 2 hour window, they had only gotten to 1 of the bathrooms and half the kitchen. I have no idea what they were doing- but the bathroom looked as though it had barely been touched. The floor was still dirty, the shower caddy untouched. Nothing wiped down in the shelves. And then when I asked the cleaning lady if she had done the floors I was told it would take several cleanings for the layers to be peeled back? Hold on.... what?! The kitchen looked ok. The fridge was spotless and organized. The downstairs bathroom had little to do and was decent... But they didn't touch the living or dining room. Dust bunnies were still everywhere- almost like I wasted all my money and time. I'm calling now to discuss with a manager. We moved to Portland in June and needed a new cleaning service. I called a number of different places to compare rates and schedules. I found Castle Keepers to be one of the few reasonable options. My initial consultation was very informative. I was able to explain my situation...what we needed and did not. When I ultimately scheduled the first cleaning, they provided scheduling reminders and called the morning of with a small window when they would arrive (key for me because I work from home). So far we are 3 months in and the service is fantastic. The crews always arrive when they tell you. Every one of the employees I have interacted with has been super nice and, most importantly, they do a great job cleaning. We have not had a single issue to bring up so far, so I would highly recommend! read more

I had 2 cleaners show up and only one of them worked. I had to redo absolutely everything the one cleaner did not do. She did not scrub the floors or even sweep. She only cleaned the top of the toilets. My house was not dirty to start with...but I wanted and paid for a "deep clean" for $330. Do yourself a favor and hire a petulant lazy teenager instead of this company. My 5 year old granddaughter could have done a better job. Beyond horrible experience. read more

I hate to do this but really think this company needs to get their act together. While cleaning our house, they broke several pictures hanging on the walls, showed up long after they said they would be there, didn't communicate any changes of times with me and left me with a house I still needed to dust after they left! After I called to fire them, and was very clear about why, they sent staff two weeks later anyhow and came to clean. I was notified they were in my house and called them to tell them once again I no longer wanted their services. They then billed me for cleaning my house, which they did not do! There is obviously a reason they have new cleaners every time and can't maintain consistent staff. I'm baffled as to how they have any customers at all. read more

Third time we've used Better Life Maids. Everytime, the crew is professional, pleasant, and easy to work with. They do a great job at very reasonable prices. My initial impression booking the cleaning was good. When I received the confirmation call, I was disappointed to find that the initial person I'd spoken with hadn't in fact, taken the notes she supposedly had. The cleaners came and left, but upon checking their work, I was confused and left with an unfinished job. Management came to the rescue when I called frantic because the house wasn't ready to be shown. I give them a five star review for a couple of reasons- what they did clean was impeccable, so I know they are very capable, and because after I spoke with management, they immediately made things right. This is something that too many businesses would not have done. Castle Cleaners is run with integrity and that means the world to me, and in the end my place looked great. I switched from another company to Better Life Maids, and boy am I excited I did! The two ladies who arrived (Trisha and Laurie) were super friendly and did an amazing job. As I let them do their thing, I went to an appointment. When I came back my hard woods shined more than they ever have, and my house smelled wonderful. We tried Castle Keepers a couple of times and found it to be a waste of money. They do a really mediocre job, have no attention to detail, and must be supervised in order to get the job done. I got a quote from Castle Keepers with their online tool, decided their price was too high, and went with another service. Castle Keepers promptly emailed me four times asking to discuss the quote then, after I blacklisted them, left me a voicemail pleading to come back and schedule service. They may well be a fine cleaning service, but their stalkerish advertising methods have turned me from a potential customer into someone who'll give them the worst possible Yelp review. I was very disappointed with this service. I gave 2 stars because the people are extremely friendly and I LOVE the products that they use, but everything else was honestly a 1 star. For starters, for a first cleaning they expect you to schedule a "Deep Clean," which was fine - it costs $157 with 2 pets in the home and the interior of the refrigerator as an "Add on." What was disappointing was that for a Deep Clean, 4 hours are scheduled in the home, yet only 1 hour was spent on our home. The maids stated that our home didn't need the extra cleaning - it was already clean enough. Yet they were happy to still charge us for a "Deep Clean." Not to mention, they didn't really do anything. They may have wiped down a few things, but there were GLARING failures. It basically looked like someone didn't care at all about the home. For instance, there tends to be some "accumulation" on the baseboard next to the toilet that was not wiped down - it was still a different color from the rest of the wall (it's disgusting, but can be a hazard of keeping a man in the house who doesn't close the toilet seat before he flushes). We also have a large vent on the wall between our living room and kitchen - still covered in dust (and extremely hard to miss - it covers over half the wall). Everything else was so/so, a mediocre cleaning job, not the "sparkling clean" you would expect from the extra cost of a Deep Clean. Even the insides of our closets weren't swept out. These are small, entryway closets - nothing big, fancy, or with carpet. Just hardwood floors that connect to the rest of the hardwood floored apartment. So obviously if you don't sweep those out, the dust and pet hair is just going to slide across the floor... When I brought this up, it was stated that closets usually cost extra. REALLY? Just for opening up the door and sliding a broom around a 2 x 3 space will cost an extra $20? That's a little ridiculous, in my opinion. I'm sad to say that we will not be using this service again. It's sad because it is difficult to find a cleaning service that actually does use REAL green cleaning products - but it's not worth it if the home isn't actually clean. read more

The people that come to the house are always friendly, do a great job, and my house does not smell like chemicals when they leave. They are extremely flexible when I need to switch the cleaning day due to a conflict. We just had Better Life Maids come and clean our new house and found them to be very pleasant and professional. They did a very good job of the cleaning itself and we were actually on the cusp of signing them up to come out every few weeks. Really the only complaint we had at that point was that they had slightly botched the scheduling and had only two maids present instead of the three they had promised. So, instead of the three hours we had been quoted for, it took them just under four and a half. The problem came later on, when we were settling up on the bill. Despite having been quoted nine hours of work, and receiving nine hours of work, we were being charged a overage because their undersized crew took more than three hours to do the job. Needless to say, seeing these shenanigans on their very first visit has caused us to think better of continuing their service, which is sad, because they really did do a solid job. In response to the owner feedback below, we had really found the company very reasonable and appreciated that they were willing to forego their deep clean, as our house had been lived in for less than a month since it's last deep clean. Really we had such a great experience with them up until that point that we were shocked when they changed their price at billing time. They had quoted us the job based on three maids working three hours, and then charged us more when the two maids they had sent did the job in just over four hours. At no point prior to actually charging us did they inform us they had gone over the quoted price, nor did they make any effort to explain why the 8 maid-hours of service they provided cost more than the 9 maid-hours we had agreed to. read more

I had started to make other arrangements when they finally did call to let me know that they were going to be at my place shortly. Aside from that they were very nice and did a decent job.
