Gus replaced our old water heater in the past, was on time, had all the tools and parts needed, and quickly went to work and replaced the old water heater. Gus and the team were sent over to our home by Fidelity Home Warranty for a pipe/plumbing repair/replacement issue. However they found that they couldn't work on it due to my water heater being in the way and was out of scope of the work order. However rather than saying too bad and leaving, they did offer their services on a separate order to remove the water heater (for a cost); but also ended up recommending to replace the water heater as well since the unit was over 20 years old and would likely start to fail in the near future. I appreciate their work quality and actually made an effort to get the job done rather than saying why they can't do it and pawning me off to another repair ticket to someone else. Only reason why not perfect 5 is honestly i think they are pretty pricey for the work and that they dont accept credit cards. If you're going to charge me a high premium, at least let me pay with a credit card for crying out loud. read more

I had a septic tank issue right before Christmas - not fun heading into the holidays! Castle returned my call immediately and scheduled me. Not only did they arrive on time (both times they came) but arrived EARLY! Clean trucks, uniforms, polite and efficient. They got to work and neatly tore my garden apart (moved rocks into piles according to size, move small plants that were in the way, dug a huge hole, made a neat pile of dirt and and evaluated the issue. They scheduled a return in three days. Rain was predicted so they used their own tarps, suspended them over the area to keep the area from becoming a mud pit. I was amazed when I came home yesterday. Not only was the work finished, but the garden was completely put back together and looked better than when they arrived! I would highly recommend this company. T he service was ordered by Fidelity Home Warranty. My upstairs bathroom started leaking water to the downstairs ceiling last week and I called my home warranty. They sent the plumber here but they but didn't actually solve my problem and they didn't identify the actual root cause. They came in and looked at the shower head and said it's improper installation and told me it's not covered by the warranty. They suggested to use the shower head because it didn't seem to leak from there and left afterwards. But the same night when I used that shower head the leaking continued. This was very frustrating that all they care is whether it's covered by the home warranty or not, instead of helping you to fix the problem. Maybe this is because the service was tied to Fidelity Home Warranty and maybe they could do a better job if we called them separately. I guess my recommendation is to be extra cautious when the service is via the home warranty. read more

I was debating whether or not to leave a bad review, because Gus is actually very nice. However after consideration, I feel it is constructive to offer my negative experience. First off, I didn't pick Castle Plumbing, my Home Warranty repair dispatched him out to me. I let him know ahead of time that my problem was with my toilet bowl not completely flushing. He used his snake to go down the pipe but didn't find any clog and said there is nothing more he can do. I tried to ask him if there would be any other possible explanation for my problem and he didn't have any and just said my problem isn't really an issue. I took him at his word because he is the professional. Afterwards, I went to google and did a cursory search on my issue and found that the solution to my problem was to replace the flap in the tank. This is something I would expect a professional plumber to suspect based on the information and description I gave him. tl;dr Gus is a nice guy and understands plumbing well, but he is not creative in his approach to solutions. I bought Fidelity Home Warranty. When my water heater stopped working, my ticket assigned to Gus. Gus came twice and replaced the water heater, also charged me $565 out of pocket cost. But there is no permit submitted to San jose city. The water heater was installed 1 month ago, but no permit record. When I call Home warranty, they said Gus will give me a call. When I call Gus, nobody answer. I have replaced a water heater 2 years ago for $1300 total cost with permit/city inspection. Nover buy home warranty, they does not allow you to choose contractor. I doubt if this business could survive if it's not with home warranty 'in-network' referral. GO LOOK FOR OTHER CONTRACTORS AS THEY ARE WAY CHEAPER FOR SAME SERVICE AND MORE HONEST. So this is my experience: My water heater was down on Thursday night and my home warranty gave me this number because he's 'in-network', I called lot times and nobody ever replied to me so on Saturday I found a out-of network contractor to take a look, they said I needed to replace the whole thing and quote for $1300. On Monday the following week this guy finally called me back and I thought since they are in network they could be cheaper so I could them in (I was totally wrong on this). He gave me the same conclusion that I need to replace the heater and I told them to start. The home warranty called me at this time to confirm the work and they said I could do cash out for around $1500 but I had no idea there is option for cash-out before this second. (Since this guy charged for $16xx for warranty) I feel that he charged more expensive as I know other people can do $1300 so I stopped them and I said I wanted to do cash-out. Noting at this moment they just removed my old tank, however this guy yelled at me and he said he gotta charge for what he has done(he said something like 'I have kids to feed', same as other review mentioned, huh ), I said OK I still do cash out just give me the number you want me to pay you for removing the old tank..., and he called the warranty so my warranty didn't allow me to do cash out since they already 'started' the job. Alright, I'm ok with paying more money, but I want to make sure I have the same efficiency for water heater. I said my current heater is 40,000 BTU and he said no problem the one he provided would be at least that value. 1 hour later he's back and he provided me one with only 34,000 BTU(the larger BTU the faster your heater heat up the water). I questioned why this is different from what he said before, AND HE STARTED TO MAKE STORY LIKE 'THIS IS THE NEW CODE FROM CITY', REALLY??! IF THIS IS TRUE, WHY DIDN'T YOU KNOW AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME 1 HOUR AGO? My old heater heated very fast, but this one he gave me HEATED SLOWER SO I'D HAVE TO WAIT FOR LONGER. MY SUGGESTION: Shop around as I know now that contractors working with warranty charged even much more than those who don't. If I go with out network contractor, the quote was $1300, and this guy charged warranty $16xx(I paid him $200 out of pocket for 'modification' which obviously he didn't do any modification he just used this to charge more, plus $75 as deductible).... Second time was to install new sink faucet / fixture - I've done this in the past but was happy with his rate to do it for me. Note the extra charges, the home warranty does not cover all the costs of the water heater replacements. There are charges for compliance that may not be covered by the home warranty. I also received the same info via mail from the home warranty stating not all fees will be covered. In the bigger picture I was happy to pay the compliance permit stuff versus paying out of pocket for the entire thing and the city inspector passed my installation. That knowledge to pass the inspection is what you're paying for. If the fees are not to your liking, request another plumber. This vendor should be zero star. It took them 3 days to schedule an appointment when we were suffering in sewer smell in the whole house. They only got 1 technician, a guy named Gus. He used only a 65-feet line, pretty short by the industry standard and demanded cash or check before service. After spending over $200, the sewer line was still clogged and the technician simply walked away without calling me because he was already paid. I had to pay another vendor to unclog the line. They got most of their business through warranty companies like HomeGuard, etc. I wonder if this business can survive on it own with this kind of customer service and mentality. When I bought my townhouse 20+ years ago, I soon after had to replace the hot water tank. At that time it was with a home warrantee co. There was a label on it that said Castle Plumbing, so I called. I spoke with Gus. I informed him that I no longer had the warrantee, but that the tank was leaking ( it had worked probably 22-23 years). We scheduled time the next day. Gus arrived when he said he would. He was able to remove that old 50gal. tank himself, and in about 1.5 hr. I had a brand new & more energy efficient 50 gal tank completely installed. They replaced the disposal and asked if I'd noticed that the drain was slow, and they offered to clear it. Unfortunately they blocked it all the way up instead. Despite the first visit and three return visits, they never fixed the problem. Yet they charged me for every visit. I finally gave up. We have very bad experience to this plumbing company (complaint goes to fidelity home warranty as well). the company was assigned through home warranty to fix my leaking sink faucet and leaking shower faucet at bathroom. 9/18: I called home warranty to request service. 9/21: castle plumbing called me and scheduled service on 9/22 3-4p. 9/22: castle plumbing was late and called us at 4:15p, we missed their call. 9/22 8pm I called back, no one received the call. (8pm is the time they told me for scheduling). 9/23 8pm: they called me and reschedule service to 9/24. 9/24: Finally castle plumbing visit our house. The nightmare just started though; They opened shower faucet, however they broke pipe. They also opened sink faucet. They took away both valves from shower faucet and sink faucet and leaves pipe broken and open. Because of broken and opened pipe, we cannot turn on water for the house. 9/25: I called them. They said they cannot fix, and they are out of this service and has transferred this service back to home warranty. I asked them to send back those parts they took away. But they are rude and just asked us to call home warranty. 9/25-10/7: many many calls to home warranty, another plumbing company visit. The new plumbing company still failed to fix our leaking problem. 10/8: Finally I called local plumber and the problem is fixed in 3 hours (easy task to them) but with our own expense. Lesson we leaned: Plumbing companies through home warranty is really not reliable and not responsible. Many local plumbing company works 7/24 to help customer. But this company takes multiple days to start service. And they unable to fix a typical problem. Overall process we suffered 3-week no water. read more

He first installed new water heater and then quoted me $200 (out of pocket) for putting a simple tape on the vent and installing a pipe that costs $18. When I told him that these services are no where close to $200, he started taking the new heater out and said "pay me or I am going to leave with the heater" I was without hot water and had to pay $200 for nothing. The guy was rude and his justification for charging me $200 was - " I have 7 kids and I gotta feed them" STAY AWAY from these pricks is all I can say read more

My water heater started to leak and I called up fidelity home warranty. They connected me with castle plumbing and Guz showed up. He was able to immediately determine the problem and recommended fidelity to replace my heater. He completed that mammoth task within 3 hrs and all leaks fixed!! He also suggested a good quality heater and hauled away the old one. Very friendly guy and did a clean job of installation. Flush fittings and pipelines safely concealed. Would definitely recommend them for anyone. Charged me for some parts which are not covered by warranty as they are modifications, but it's completely ok given the strenuous efforts needed to pull out the old heater and install the new one. read more

I echo MK review comment. I end up dealing with this company due to home warranty . The water heater broke and insurance company end up sending technician from castle plumbing. The guy comes first day and after inspection says he need to order new one. After reading all reviews how home warranty can screw you; I told them very clearly I will pay only the deductible. The next days he comes 2 hours late and after uninstalling broken water heater says it requires one modification for which charge is $50. The modification is I need to cut the vent by an inch or so as new water heater is not same as old one. When I asked why you didn't order A.O Smith same model as my house is just 8 year old he says I don't like A.O Smith. Guess what he is making money while buying Rheem and he knew there will be these small modification where he can make money at will. Then 5 minute later he says T&P valve also need modification so another $50. I ran out of patience and called insurance company; they realize scam going on so they called this guy and ask him to settle for $50. I don't understand unless you order same model you have to adjust vent pipe/TP valve; if for this also you charge then what is the installation cost? I myself could have lift and connect two hose to it. Basically home insurance has become a fraud because of pimp like these. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Also if you are home owner and going through insurance company try to stay away from this company; ask insurance company to send different vendor. One more thing basic home warranty covers water heater 100% including hauling old one. This guy was trying to make $65 there also. read more
