We were very pleased with every aspect of service provided by Castle Ridge Mortuary. From the moment the first person answered the call we were treated with respect, kindness and dignity. James the funeral director made the process of setting everything up as easy as possible, from insurance to the flow of service. I took my father In February 2020 to make changes to his arrangements. The first was he wanted my sisters name removed as he was adamant of not having her involved in his arrangements. In 2012 her name was listed on all paperwork including her receiving his flag.My father paid for all arrangements. The second item was providing a DD214 so he could be buried at FT Sam. The gentlemen who we spoke with was no longer employed My father passed 5/2020 and the only part of my Fathers wishes that were honored was his burial. Samantha the Director is rude and unprofessional. Never use this place. Unprofessional and clueless. So much for honoring a persons wishes. read more

I would like to Thank Nina Lewis for helping me. Our friend, Alan Long selected Castle Ridge Mortuary to help finalize his last wishes. I called to find out what time i needed to have flowers at the mortuary. I wanted to make sure the flower arrangement i had selected to Honor Alan and his family would travel with him to the cemetery. The receptionist, told me they were NOT ACCEPTING ANY FLOWERS due to the Corvid 19. I was truly upset. I had told her that this man has touched so many lives, he has helped, volunteered and has been a friend, a great friend to many people. That many people would probably have flowers sent to their mortuary. Receptionist said They have a NOTE ON THE DOOR, that they will not accept and arrangements from any florist! She truly upset me ... i told her that this truly wrong! She asked me if i would like to speak to the General Manager... i said no! And I would tell all my friends how Castle Ridge did not help me honor my friend! I then said goodbye and hung up. My phone rang and it was Nina Lewis the General Manager. She understand how i felt! I thanked her for her phone call. She told me, she would accept the delivery of my arrangement and personal make sure the flower would be at the cemetery. With all the stress, of a covid 19, having our lives upside down and the loss of a great friend... Nina turned a sad situation into a positive experience! Nina from the bottom of my heart! Beautiful and clean. My Mother passed 2 weeks ago and she looked amazing. Sabrina was vital in putting together all of pictures we emailed her. On another note there is alot of deficiencies in their services: -Florist only offers artificial flowers. -No sound system in viewing/chapel to play your requested music...only elevator music. When I asked if they could play 2 songs off my phone that my Dad requested, I was told to go to the podium/microphone and hold my phone up to it...really?? -Pictures in frames were taken to be placed by sign-in table...3 could not be found or displayed until later during visitation. -The first 2 rows not reserved during service...people sat there, thus, my 5 siblings and myself were scattered and not seated next to my Dad. -Same problem at the grave site...I am handicapped and I had to stand...so mad!! -While we were still at the burial site the workers at the cemetary backed up their truck and lifted the casket into a tube that looked like a filthy trash can and hauled the casket away as my father stood crying! So angry about the "low rent" actions that took place...go elsewhere...please! read more

I already posted and can't locate it. There were multiple problems and disappointments using this mortuary to handle our father's service. They were in charge of my mother's services 14 years ago and it was nice. It was horrible for our father. We buried him elsewhere and the other mortuary was amazing-and went above and beyond!! When sharing what made it much better the manager was very patronizing when we offered suggestions on what was so pleasant about the other funeral home. Castle Ridge did take good care of our father's body, the services and lack of working equipment is why we gave it a lower rating. read more

In 2008 CastleRidge Mortuary handled my mothers funeral arrangements. They were very courteous and very, very professional with her service. Dad was very satisfied with the way Castle Ridge handled all the arrangements. This year on January 21st I had to do the arrangements for dad. Again they were very professional and the family was impressed. The 2 gentlemen that showed up when hospice called them arrived within 45 minutes. They introduced themselves and also gave condolences to the family. They allowed us to see dad one last time before they would take him and all the family that was here at the house did so. They did not rush us and I thank you for allowing us to spend the last few minutes with dad. When your world comes to a screeching halt, it's good to have 2 individuals that you do not know, who are getting ready to take your loved one, be compassionate and caring. I dealt with Sabrina, who was very professional and she made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. Once again it was so good to deal with someone who didn't know dad but made me feel comfortable with making arrangements for my father. Fort Sam National Cemetery had a 2 week wait till dad could be buried and I was a little anxious to see dad one last time. Nothing Castle Ridge could do about. Once the day came for dads viewing I was totally surprised. Dad looked awesome, and all the family and guests let us know that looked awesome. Castle Ridge Mortuary has done an excellent job and dad looked so peaceful. Dads brother even commented how great dad looked as did the rest of the out of town family and friends. This is where my dear father rosary & viewing took place. It's has 2 beautiful chapels. I dealt with a lady named Laurie and she went above and beyond. They had ties, none of them said my dad, so she went shopping and had a good selection of ties. Laurie is a professional and knows how to talk with people. As for some other people I was told by my sister & grandma that there were promises made and they didn't go through with their word. We had two limos, my uncle is disabled and we asked 10 or more times will there be a place we can put his wheelchair. Their constant reply "We have more than enough room on the trunk, don't you worry about it. The limo got there, there was no space in the trunk. Thank the Lord for my husband being there to hold the wheel chair & get to the mortuary & church before we arrived there. I don't expect things to be perfect, mistakes happen. But when you specify certain things, those things you make a mental note. The sign in books we ordered 2 so my sister & I could have one they gave is the regular copy with the second copy looking like a kindergarten child put it together. Some pages were too long, peeking out pic the binder than there were short papers. Now that was ridculous. They didn't fix it because they didn't know how and they didn't n know where to find a hole puncher in that form. They said they have been there awhile but my advice to them is listen & make notes(even the tiny details) so you can make this experience as easy as possible, because it's beyond exhausting . The other thing I would have to say is DON'T BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW. read more

My father-in-law had passed away at his assisted living facility here in San Antonio. His wish was to be cremated here in San Antonio but buried with his wife back in their home state of Kansas. The night he passed away Hospice called several funeral homes in San Antonio requesting for his body to be transported to their facility in order for cremation to take place. After calling numerous funeral homes they said they could not take possession of my father-in-law's body due to them being corporate operated and his ashes were being transferred to a family-owned funeral home in Kansas. I had never heard of that and neither did the Hospice coordinator who was making the arrangements. I was actually appalled. I informed the Hospice nurse to contact Castle Ridge Mortuary since I knew it was family operated. Within 45 minutes two staff members from Castle Ridge Mortuary were at the facility to receive my father-in-law. It was very hard saying good-bye to my father-in-law that evening but the young man and young woman from Castle Ridge, Joseph and Julia, definitely help ease the pain. They both introduced themselves to me, my son, and the Hospice Nurse and communicated their condolences to us. They explained the procedure in transporting his body. While Hospice was preparing my father-in-law's body to be transported, Joseph and Julia, stood in silence with great respect outside his room waiting word from the Hospice nurse. Joseph and Julia offered us numerous and ample time to say good bye. They were the most courteous, sympathetic and professional individuals. I was at total ease allowing them to take my father-in-law's body. They treated his body with the utmost respect and dignity I could ask for. After loading his body into the hearse we all stood in silence and respect for Lloyd. Before departing Joseph and Julie shook my hand, my son, and the Hospice nurse and stated their condolences again. Castle Ridge, as instructed, cremated my father-in-law and allowed us to transport his ashes to his final resting place in Kansas. I also would like to add that I was introduced to Nina, staff member, when I retrieved my father-in-law's death certificate. A very polite and professional individual and the facility is absolutely gorgeous and has a very calming atmosphere. If my father-in-law's wishes were to be buried in San Antonio we would have had Castle Ridge Mortuary handle the entire funeral arrangements. So I recently had a family member pass away and it was a very unexpected death and with her having no will everything was very unplanned and unorganized. Me and my family spent 2 days looking for places for the viewing and funeral to be held at and we finally decided on this place. Let me tell you these ladies went out of their way to make everything so easy for us. They seriously catered to every little need we had no matter how little or small they were there with a helping hand and a smile. I couldn't thank them enough when everything was over. They were so sweet and helpful. It literally saved me and my family so much time and stress. I would recommend this place to anyone without a doubt. Great Job Ladies!!!! read more
