But because everyone that I have had contact with, has handled me and my situation with so much compassion. Some even going above and beyond to make sure I received proper care. 2 years ago, I developed Cat Scratch Disease after being bit, trapping a feral cat. My family doctor dismissed me, an ER doctor misdiagnosed me, and a surgeon decided maybe it could be cancer. I was sent to the breast center for a mammogram, ultrasound, and biopsy. After the biopsy showed whatever was going on with me wasn't cancer, the surgeon also dismissed me and said I should just be thankful it wasn't cancer. No one would even test me for Cat Scratch Disease and made me to feel like they thought I was just being a hypochondriac. A nurse from St Vincent Breast Center called me a few days after the biopsy to check on me, and I broke down crying and told her about how horribly ill I was and how dismissed I felt by all the doctors who had "treated" me. She promised to do everything she could to help me be heard and my medical issues addressed. This nurse personally took it upon herself to go and ask a pathologist to look at my biopsy results. The pathologist said my results looked like Cat Scratch Disease to them and I was quickly sent to a Disease Specialist. Because the illness was allowed to hang out in my lymphatic system for so long, I eventually had to have a lymph node removed, a year later. Now, another year later, I'm having pain in the same area again. So my new primary care doctor ordered a mammogram. When I called St Vincent Breast Center to schedule my mammogram, the woman helping me quickly noticed that my order had been written incorrectly. My new primary care physician had just ordered a general routine mammogram. She insisted with the complications that I was having and given my history, I needed a 3D mammogram and an ultrasound of my underarm. I am so thankful that she did this, because it was during the ultrasound that they discovered one extremely large lymph node that needs to be biopsied. My doctors office said that St Vincent Breast Center contacted them immediately with a request for a new order. Every time that I've been to the St Vincent Breast Center, I am always impressed with how every single person you encounter is very polite and compassionate. Not just the techs and the doctors, but also the women who help walk you from one place to the next and stay with you until the doctor comes in to talk to you. The women who check you in, deal with your insurance, make your appointments...stellar. What a relief to know that Indy has St Vincent Breast Center.

We decided to go here for our second so we could get the same type of care but not have the long stay afterwards. Everyone was nice, willing to talk and get to know you and support you in your journey. When it was time to give birth, it was a smooth experience. They checked in as needed but also gave me space as I was in labor. I chose a water birth and everything went quickly and smoothly. And a few hours after birth, we got to go home and sleep in our own bed and just check in the following day. If you're looking for a lower intervention birthing experience without a hospital stay, but also not a full on give birth at home experience, this is the perfect in between!

I delivered our second child at home in our living room and my wife wanted more of that sort of experience. Our 4th was born here and my wife got to invite her sisters to be with her and experience the birth. The midwife was awesome and did her job exactly how my wife wanted her to do it. My wife is a strong lady who doesn't need a constant you got this girl to give birth. After my son was born we made the food we brought and a few hours later we got to go home and enjoy the new member of the family in the comforts of our home. Now we are expecting our 5th and my wife wanted me to just deliver the baby at home like I did with our 2nd child. I am not up for that so Sacred Roots is the next best thing. If you do not have any issues with your pregnancy or a great amount of fear about having a baby, Sacred Roots is perfect!

When you are opening other people up into a vulnerable space, like pregnancy, you want to be sure that you are taken care of and that's what she does. Dr. Colvin is so knowledgeable and she feels more like a friend than a doctor. She was there for me throughout both of my high risk pregnancies!!! She made sure I was on track and encouraged me every step of the way. Every time I had an appointment, she would let me know that I was doing a great job! I hope to have every pregnancy with her (don't tell my husband I said that, he wants to be done having kids but with an OB like Dr. Colvin, you kinda want a reason to keep going back, lol). Lastly, the ladies in the office are amazing! They are kind and they make sure you have everything taken care of. He calls me AS I AM CONTRACTING, IN LABOR AND GETTING AN EPIDURAL; saying they aren't letting him come up because of our daughter. Are you serious????? I'm literally about to have our baby. LITERALLY!!!!! I finally get ahold of my mother, she rushes from work and takes over our 7 year old. They are known to have bedbugs. Someone I know is about to deliver here, unfortunately. I saw on her paperwork for induction, that they would give her a parking pass. My husband had to pay every single time he came and went...which was a lot seeing we had our daughter and he had work.

Called and asked for information about the process of receiving pre-exposure rabies vaccines. I'm…read morestudying to be a wildlife biologist and I focus on bats. It is required of me to receive these vaccines and it is something that should be common knowledge for anyone working in a hospital--regardless of whether you're a nurse or not. After I asked my question, whoever was working reception had zero idea what I was asking for, which is fairly alarming considering rabies is one of the most lethal viruses we have. She asked me if I was a current patient, I said no I don't have insurance. This was when she really stopped helping me. I understand prices are high, but they're going to be high regardless because of what I'm asking for. She told me to ask my school what do, to which I told her they told me to contact hospitals because they are all equipped to give these vaccines. She just kept saying she doesn't know what I was asking for and that she can't help. She then directed me to Jane Pauley, who is closed on weekends. I understand not being versed in everything that happens in a hospital, but not knowing what a pre-exposure vaccine is, and being unwilling in helping access that, is a terrible look for any healthcare facility. Please educate your staff on basic healthcare and train them to not just push people off the phone.
