This place is truly a hidden gem for tourist but a local hotspot most definitely! There's a whole system going on in the 3 different areas they have a BBQ place to sit and eat, a raw and cooked seafood shop, a small food market and then a fried seafood restaurant you can go to all at once. I came here during Mardi Gras with my man who used to come with his mom and grandma back in the day and it was pretty packed with locals so you know this place is legit! I'd recommend knowing what you want before you come so you don't look lost (like me) lol read more

Fried shrimp poboy was overflowing with shrimp, so kudos to this place for not skimping. Get a knife and fork for the roast beef poboy, as that was overflowing with so much gravy that it soaked the bread and it was falling apart by the time we opened it when we went outside to eat on one of the benches. Great taste, just really messy. Sitting outside was a pleasure, as it wasn't too hot with a slight breeze. Came right after the lunch crowd but it was still a little busy. Seafood Always fresh as usual, but I got a lot less thank what I used to on my plate. My daughter and I are usually able to share a plate but I only got 1 piece of fish. I'm not a local and is from out of state. A local recommended Castnet and I googled it right away and went. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I got four pounds of crawfish, two blue crabs, a big shot, and some French fries. My kids loved the fries. They are picky eaters but my toddler ate two crawfish! It was so good I went back and got more crawfish. My husband is wanting a plan another trip back but the 11 hours drive with two little kids is hard to plan and manage. I wish there was a way to get there quicker because Castnet is soooo good. You can also buy live crawfish to take and they have the best prices locally. The seasoning on the crawfish is perfect and spot on. The locals are so lucky! I wish there was a place like Castnet where I am from. The prices are also fair for what you get. Well, I just found out that Castnet original's owners have sold their business. Today is September 5. With great hesitation I ventured out to explore the establishment. Original name, "Castnet" appears to have the same employees and a better recipe in my option. I noticed the plates were not as full as the original of Castnet. Unfortunately, there are no pics to share but if you are a diehard fan you can most definitely see the difference. As much as I wanted to find something negative to say, I just can't do it. They food is great!!! I do believe it's a bit better than the original owners. Sorry, Denise and Kent. Usually businesses fall when they are sold or taken over by new owners/management. Not sure who the new owners are now, but I'm heartbroken and also happy for the original owners - happy retirement Denise and Kent. You will be missed. Hands down my favorite seafood anywhere on the planet. Kent started it and has made it a neighborhood fixture since 1988 but today, 6/21/2025, marks his retirement! A very nice gentleman by the name of Drew came and met us and he and his wife have bought from Kent. It's bittersweet but the fact that the heartbeat of this New Orleans East fixture is still beating and will continue for many years to come makes me very happy. Best wishes to Kent on his retirement-scary though it may be- and best of wishes to Drew and his wife on continuing with this wonderful place. We look forward to many more years! I don't get home a lot but i had to come on for a funeral this time. While here I wanted to partake of a little New Orleans cuisine and to my surprise I wanted a shrimp sandwich one of the nights I was here and it was around 8 pm and everything in the area I was in was closed. I didn't remember it being like this. So the next day still having that hunger for it. I pulled up at Castnet. They were pretty busy but I was willing to wait. I stepped in an they immediately took my order and gave me a number. While waiting I decided to go onto the other side where they sell the uncooked seafood to get a few shrimp to fry for later that nite. While over there they called my number and they held my order until I cam e back to pick it up. Once I arrived at my destination I was able to enjoy what took me two days to get. read more

If you like Cajun seafood, look no further than Castnet Seafood, where you can get a great meal at reasonable prices. I was surprised by the selection of seafood prepared in a variety of different ways from fresh to boiled to fried. I ended up going for the fried catfish plate, while my partner went for the shrimp plate, and it was honestly surprising how massive each plate came out to be (at least 4 catfish filets and 20-30 shrimp). Food came out fresh within 15 minutes and was polished clean soon after. Will stop by again the next time we are in the area! Pros: Fresh, affordable, and delicious seafood. Cons: Separate lines for fried vs boiled/fresh seafood without marked signs. Ended up ordering just fried food this time, but next time will try boiled shrimp and fresh oysters! We heard this was the place to go for a shrimp poboy and when we got it we were fairly disappointed. Yes, it was overflowing with perfectly fried shrimp but it was a very dry sandwich. We asked for all the fixins inside but it felt like all they put was lettuce and tomato. We tried Verti Marte before coming here and enjoyed those sandwiches much more. Definitely a local gem, the location is approximately a 30 minute drive to East NOLA, definitely a locals spot, people were really friendly and helpful to two novice outsiders. On our uber rides there and back, our drivers asked HOW we knew about this local gem - it's clear that this is not your usual tourist spot since it's about 20 mins drive from the French quarter. Needless to say, everything was top notch and fresh. You take a number and wait to be served. Then you can pick what seafood you want, fresh or boiled. We opted for some shrimp and snow crab claws alongside some corn, potatoes and sausage. Of course, also got a dozen oysters that ran you $13/dozen. The seafood was fresh and delicious, we ordered 2 dozen of oysters for $26, their sizes were uneven, some of them were huge. We (4 of us) also ordered one soft shell crab one fried oyster plates, 3 pounds of crawfish, and a gumbo. All of them were good, crawfish was spiced nicely just to the point, and every one of them was delicious; soft shell crab had a fried aroma, it's crispy, but somehow lacks umami; seafood gumbo looked average, but it's tasted delicious, the soap ingredient includes sausage oyster shrimp, only thing was that I had to warm it by a microwave by myself since it was cold when i got it. To be noted, one side of this establishment has seafood ie fish, crawfish, crabs etc. and the other side is the hot side, they offer lunch plates, sandwiches and the like. The sandwich was half oyster + half shrimp dressed. When I tell you it was oh so tasty, I didn't want to share, eating it all was my plan, lol. The price was fair, the french bread was fresh as you know, that's half the battle. The customer service was excellent. I was provided ketchup packets, hot sauce packets + napkins. Only thing I didn't like was the transaction fee on my credit card but next time I'll have cash. I don't remember this being a thing when I have been here before, but now I know; because knowing is half the battle right?
