I still love Chef Ron's. The Seafood Gumbo is so good that it's just ridiculous. I planned my trip to South Mississippi so I could go to Chef Ron's and I was just the 2nd customer to arrive today (for lunch). You can watch his videos on YouTube, I think the secret is the time investment and skipping the shortcuts. This time I got 16 ounce Seafood gumbo and add a side order of grilled shrimp.

The ambiance has REAL character. The servers here are always the greatest. The food is a hidden gem. Sometimes as a chef you have to be a Gordon Ramsay because good food has to be done right- or not at all. This restaurant reflects on everyone in the city, they won't allow anything mediocre.

We met up with a friend of ours who lives in Baton Rouge, while we drove in from Gulfport MS. This place is an experience. The waitress acted like she was our crazy aunt and we were in her kitchen. Some might call it rude, I call it entertaining and family friendly. As we looked at the menu, one of us (not me) asked, "so what is your specialty?" Our waitress got almost in his face and responded, "why don't you read what is on top of the menu!?" Chef Ron's GUMBO shop. :D Our experience was great and so was the food, Chef Ron did not disappoint and our waitress, became like family...okay maybe a little bit too familiar. But at least we remember her, and the great food.

The moment I walked in, I was greeted by a staff member and a unique, welcoming atmosphere. The walls were covered in countless one-dollar bills, each with its own individual message, which made for a fun and interesting place to sit. I went with takeout, and the service was incredibly fast. I got the 20-ounce Mumbo Gumbo with the rice on the side, a side of potato salad, and started with the boudin balls. The boudin balls were a great appetizer, they had a nice spicy kick, and I was pleased with the generous serving of five balls. The main was the Mumbo Gumbo, did not disappoint. It's a flavorful filé gumbo loaded with chicken, shrimp, crab meat, okra, and tomato. The 20-ounce serving was very filling and packed with flavor. The side of potato salad was a perfect accompaniment, adding a cool, creamy contrast that complemented the warm dish. My only regret is not trying the sweet tea. Based on the quality of everything else, I have a feeling it would have been delicious. I'll definitely be back to give it a try.

We found Ron's randomly driving around our friends neighborhood and we are so lucky we did! So good we went back twice! The atmosphere is decorated with dollar bills from customers and classic New Orleans style, but the food is what's most important. First trip I had Gumbo and my love had Jambalaya. Both delicious, full of meat and rice and flavor. We took some gumbo home to our friends it was so delicious. They were extra cautious for us as our friend as a shell fish allergy! So we really appreciated that. Second time around , my love stayed with the Jambalaya and I had the catfish and Mac and cheese. While the catfish was delicious, the Mac wasn't my favorite. Still a worthwhile meal and cool place to visit

2nd visit: Dominic was busy so we got a different server. The new server with long Ponytail dude was not very professional. He took off before we finished ordering the food. He ignored us everytime he walked past our table. We tried to tell him that we have a flight to catch, but he does not seemed to care, not until after my husband got upset. When the food finally came, everything was good except the mango salad, it had 1 long dirty blond hair in it. We wanted to tell our server but he didn't even bother to stop by. We don't want to miss our flight so we just paid and left.

Not sure how I discovered this gem of a restaurant on my many trips to New Orleans. I've been commuting from Hawaii to work in the movie business. This quaint place is in Metairie to be exact. I've sampled countless Seafood Gumbo in many eateries in Louisiana. And Chef Ron's delicacies became my favorite place to satisfy my hunger. Until we meet again.

I'm from the Big Easy and have eaten more than my share of gumbo, however this was my first time to visit this restaurant. Chef Ron has nine varieties of gumbo, ranging from the classic seafood to the ultimate gumbo which is file' gumbo with chicken, shrimp, crawfish, sausage and topped with fried catfish and oysters. Sounds like a winner, but I stuck with the basic chicken and sausage gumbo with okra and tomato. This had a rich, dark roux and good flavor. To me, the gumbo needed 3 additions to warrant a 5 star rating: a little more chicken stock because this was thick thick, a lot more chicken and sausage. Hmmm, don't know if there was even 2 ounces of protein in my bowl. And lastly some heat-more than Tabasco. Perhaps a touch of cayenne or Tony's. The restaurant itself is inviting and comfortable. Love the dollar bills. Looks like a cool place to have a beer at the bar.

Found this place on Yelp. Was driving in from Jackson Mississippi to catch a flight but wanted to treat my mom to something before we flew out. I come to New Orleans often but never really too many places outside of French quarters. This was worth every bit of the stop. Met chef Ron personally and he is a really kind and polite guy. He walked up and started talking to me as if he knew me. Made us feel at home. The food was delicious and the price was unbelievably inexpensive. The portions were huge. The service was fast and the decor was nice with money all over the walls with little messages. Was a little disappointed that he stopped the tradition cuz we definitely wanted to take our money to the wall and write a message. Will definitely be back

Ordered 1/2 doz chargrilled oysters and the meat pies. For some reason I did not realized the meat pies had ground beef in them; I remembered a different flavor profile. They were good but won't order them again; too many other choices. Chargrilled oysters, on the other hand, is now on my SIL's list of top fav foods. I usually eat mine raw, but these were not too salted and not overcooked. Good job, ACME! SIL ordered the 1/2 shrimp po boy, which was on her hit list of foods for the trip and I had the 1/2 hot sausage patty po boy. Both of us had the jambalaya, which was tasty but not overpowering. Her po boy was loaded with shrimp and I had her try my po boy, since she had never heard of the hot sausage. It was a winner with her as well! We had leftovers, of course. Things were hopping by the time we finished, and it was a bit to get our to go boxes, drink refills and check out, but we'd go back in a heartbeat.

The environment reminds me a dive bar by the water, not fine dining. Pia served us promptly with our drinks, gave her suggestions on the menu pointing out her favorites, and took our appetizer order. We started with a dozen of the chargrilled oysters. They were served with a few pieces of baguette bread and lemon. It took a little while for them to come out, but when they hit the table, they were the garlicky, buttery goodness I was anticipating. For entrees we had the bowl of gumbo and plate of red beans and rice with the grilled sausage. All the staples of the NO. The food was really good and left us satisfied. I would definitely come back to try the boom boom shrimp, gator bites and boudin egg rolls !

Our waiter, Jonathan, made the experience unforgettable. He took the time to sit down with us, walk us through the menu, and share his recommendations--and every single one was spot on. We ordered the blackened redfish, catfish, gumbo, savory cheesecake, bread pudding, and vanilla bean crème brûlée. Every dish was outstanding! And we can't forget the cornbread--the aroma of warm butter hits you the moment it's placed on your table. It was the perfect way to start the meal. What really stood out was the staff. Every waiter worked together as a team, helping one another and creating such a fun, welcoming atmosphere. You could tell they genuinely enjoyed what they do, and it made the entire dining experience even more special. From the incredible food to the exceptional service and inviting ambiance, everything was top-notch. If you're in the area, don't hesitate to dine here--you won't regret it! One restaurant that locals constantly recommended to me was Drago's Seafood in Metairie, and now I completely understand why. I ordered the charbroiled oysters along with the crawfish platter that came with crawfish étouffée, crawfish mac and cheese, and fried crawfish. Every single thing on the table was incredible. The charbroiled oysters absolutely lived up to the hype rich, buttery, smoky, and packed with flavor. The crawfish platter was just as impressive and gave me a chance to try multiple Louisiana dishes all in one meal. What really stood out to me beyond the food was the service. The staff was extremely friendly, welcoming, and patient with questions from someone who isn't from Louisiana and still learning the local food scene. You can tell they take pride in both the restaurant and the hospitality. The only downside is parking can get a little complicated because the place fills up fast, which honestly says a lot about how popular it is. Just plan ahead or expect a short wait finding a spot. Overall, this is one of those restaurants that feels genuinely loved by locals and absolutely worth visiting if you're traveling through the New Orleans area.

My bartender, Darryl, took fantastic care of me. Vibes in this place are very warm and cozy, I sat at the bar to the right of the entrance as you walk in. I had a half dozen char grilled oysters and a cup of seafood gumbo. I see why the oysters are so popular, they are a hit. Buttery and garlicky, the crusty bread they serve with them is a great compliment to soak up the sauce. I had originally intended on getting the chicken and andouille gumbo but Darryl steered me away from it, he said it was very salty. I trusted his word and went with the seafood gumbo instead and was very pleased with it. The flavors were fantastic, but I am gonna ding it ever so slightly as I think $8.99 is kind of an obscene price for that serving size, but at least it was good. Overall I'm very satisfied with my lunch and the service, I think if you like seafood and you're in their area, you should eat here. Edit - $9 for a pint is a little over the top too, imo. My "light lunch" was $42 before the tip.
