I used to have a 1999 Mercury Sable, and it got me where I needed to go for a good long while, but it accumulated many problems over the years. Finally back in June, I decided it was too much of a headache to try and maintain it and deal with its eccentricities, so I started shopping around for a decent used car. Initially I was looking for something as cheap as possible off of Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace, but my mother convinced me to look for something in a slightly higher quality range, something reliable and dependable enough for her to borrow to drive down to San Diego and see relatives once or twice a year. And I'm glad she did, because otherwise I probably would have ended up with something nowhere near as nice as the 2015 Volkswagen Passat from Castro Auto Sales that I ended up with. I was waiting to write this review until she and I had been on one such roadtrip, because while it has performed well around town here so far, I knew that would be the real test of it. And it passed with flying colors! So I am very happy with the purchase. The salesman Mo was very straightforward and not high-pressure. He was easy to deal with. My family knows an independent mechanic that we go to frequently when we have an issue with one of our vehicles, and we acquainted ourselves with a friend of his who works at Tom's Auto Service across the street from Castro, and both of them said the same thing: the majority of the car dealerships around here are sketchy and not worth buying from, but Castro is the real deal. I am inclined to agree. The car runs great, it is a smooth and comfortable ride, and I've gotten several compliments on it already! Whenever I am in the market for another vehicle in the future, I am going to come back to Castro. read more

Would not recommend this place unless you have cash in hand to buy a car, and even then I'd be skeptical. Told the salesman what we were like for, and which car we were interested in. After a lot of up and down, back and forth, multiple calls to his "boss" over his AirPods, we were told we would need to trade in one of our own vehicles to purchase the car we were looking to buy. We told him from the start that was not our intention, this would be a third vehicle. He acted surprised every time his boss told him new information, or the computer screen gave him a different answer. There was a lot of bait and switch, even though we went in with clear intentions and how much we were willing to pay out the door. We see now how this business operates, they do a lot of upfront promises, to get you in the door, then a lot of back and forth, wearing the customer down with lender fees, calling the boss, etc. Not entirely comfortable about this business having all of our credit information either, we asked them to shred the information but didn't see him shred anything. Purchase elsewhere, from a reputable car sales before going here. read more

I bought a 2014 Ford Focus here and it's a great car. Mo was the salesman that I worked with and he was attentive, professional, and didn't try to blow smoke where the sun doesn't shine. I got a decent deal and because I liked the deal I received so much, I came back later with my mother, who needed a vehicle as well, and she purchased a vehicle too! Thank you Mo for letting me give you a hard time as I was ready for the auto salesman pitch. He didn't approach me that way at all and it made me more at ease. He was great! I appreciated Mo's honesty and overall ability to work as well as he does with people. NOTE: My sister showed up while I was making my purchase final and he was very nice. She's crazy. I warned him before she got there and he handled the conversation with her well. She can be loud and overbearing. I definitely would go back and purchase another vehicle. read more

I bought my 07 honda accord from them . we got it home and noticed we could not get the glove box opened . we called they told us they would fix it . so i called the number they gave me . i got the run around from their vendor and from castro . very shady piss poor follow thru. i will NEVER buy another thing from them . and they have dmv work done there . they couldnt do that right from the purchase . we had to go to dmv so we could get it all ironed out so we could pay for our tag renewal. read more

Be careful! This dealership intentionally deceived me about the condition of a truck that I bought. More than once they told me what they thought I wanted to hear and did something else. When looking at the truck I noticed a smell. I asked the girl in the office about it (if it was leaking/burning oil, or running hot). She assured me that the truck had been fully checked out by their mechanic and it had no leaks or issues. She told me her brother just drove this truck to Vegas and back with no problems. She then called her brother and asked, and he told her that the truck had been fully inspected and had no leaks or issues. I bought the truck and drove it straight home. When I came out to the truck the next morning I noticed two oil spots in my driveway underneath the truck. When I crawled under the truck I could see oil on everything like it had been leaking for a while. I tried calling the dealership a few times but no one answered. So I wrote them an email and got no response to that either. After a couple of days I took the truck to my mechanic to have it checked out. While the truck was at my mechanic's shop, Veronica from Castro Auto sales called me to ask about a warranty offer and I informed her about the issues with the truck. She said she "got locked out of her old email" so she didn't get my email. She said I should've called her and they would've fixed the oil leak for free but she agreed to fix the door lock switch that wasn't working. My mechanic was already trying to find the oil leak so I told her I'd wait and see what he came up with. I let him take care of one of the two oil leaks ($100 repair). The one I didn't have him do was the REAR MAIN SEAL leak. I figured since Veronica said they would've fixed the oil leak, I'd save myself $800-1000 and have them fix the oil leak they mislead me about. They lied to me about the oil leaks. They lied to me about being willing to fix the oil leak (once they found out it was the rear main seal they changed their minds). They took a LONG time (a few weeks) to file my loan documents and DMV paperwork. And the communication efforts are terrible. Three times Veronica said "I'll call you right back" and I didn't hear from her for a day or two. BUYER BEWARE! read more

Horrible service! I called today asking them about a truck I saw the other day at their lot. I called them to ask for pricing. I talked to a woman on the phone she gave me the mileage and pricing, she asked how I was going to purchase the car and that if I paid cash there would be a better deal for me. I told her I would pay cash and she told me she would give me a call back with the new pricing amount. She never called back. I called back 2 times after that to know what had happened, she blew me off saying she was busy and didn't have time. I recommend people to not come here and buy any cars here!
