Just had my first appointment and rushed home to leave a 5 star review as soon as I could! Dr. Young's office is amazing-- professional, accomodating, and I felt so cared for and trusted their work. From the very first call inquiring about their services, to the receptionist finding a way to fit me in even though I had called so late, to my hygienist Ophelia being the gentlest and most thorough hygienist I've ever had, this office is what I've been looking for. I've struggled to find a office in the Castro Valley area that I liked for the past years and was finally recommended this place. Dr. Young and her team are excellent at providing care and consultations. It's quite far for us to reach the office but I was having a challenge. Dr. Young helped to even out my bite and she also explained what went wrong with the initial work that was done and how it could be corrected. I found Jennifer to be very rude. Went in for emergency visit. She looked overwhelmed in regards to how much help my teeth needed, and not interested in helping me long term. Tried explaining how Denti-Cal only extracts teeth. They don't care about filling the hole where no teeth are etc. She didn't seem to understand there's actually poor families in CV that don't have access to quality dentistry. Just FYI JEN, I also use to be the type who wore stilettos to work(like you)...but then ya know life, health etc changed things a bit for me. The ignorance and Judgment were real that day from her. Passed by the other day, not sure what's happened but the office and its exterior is looking pretty run down and dilapidated. It was just my first visit and I will update if anything changes. I have extreme anxiety and new situations overwhelm me. Just thinking of going to the dentist terrifies me. That being said, as soon as I walked in, Mary greeted me warmly and even addressed me by my nickname which is very rare for people to do. I am a new patient of the office since Aug of this year. My husband and his father both go to Dr. Young and they both have nothing but good things to say about the office. I have had difficult dental problems in the past and I am no fan of going to the dentist. Dr. Young and her staff have done an excellent job of helping relieve my anxiety. I have had a few dental emergencies that resulted in me needing to be seen ASAP. Dr. Young has found a way to squeeze me in even though I know her schedule is full. Mary and Carol at the front desk have always been courteous and accommodating. You will have to wait for routine appointments due to how busy Dr. Young is. After being in the medical field for 26 years, I find this to be the case when a doctor is good at what they do, and have a great bedside manner. Dr. Young has made me feel at ease at every appointment. I also want to mention that her hygienists have taken extra step with my cleanings due to the fact that I have incredible sensitive teeth. Very impressed. I had a painful dental issue and after some recommendations and research I decided to check out Castro Valley Dental Care. I was scheduled and seen sooner than expected. The office was clean and cozy, and the staff wore masks and followed Covid-19 precautions, including temperature checks and questionnaires for arriving patients. After x-rays and an evaluation, Dr. Jennifer Young went over the results and provided me with a proposed treatment plan. I mentioned I was uninsured and she let me know about a patient loyalty program to consider. She explained which procedures I needed to have done, what could wait a little while longer and discussed alternatives and optional work. She also went over preventative care and outlined good dental hygiene practices (I'm guilty of not flossing regularly) I never felt pressured or rushed; I felt like she listened to me and addressed my concerns so I could make informed decisions before proceeding. I got honest and straightforward advice. I returned a week later to have some not-so-fun extractions done; Dr. Young performed the work skillfully and she and her assistant were friendly and efficient. More importantly, I was comfortable and the procedure was painless. The doctor called me the next day to see how I was doing and to remind me to rinse with warm salt water while my gums healed. My experience from initial consultation to followup was fantastic. I'm grateful for this office and its staff -they turned a stressful situation into a pleasant experience and I'll be returning for cleanings and future work. I've been a patient here now for two years, and I'm very thankful I found it. As a previous Dental Assistant, I know there are steps she takes to be very thorough, but she's also very gentle as she preforms different treatments, including anesthetic. After much thought, I've decided to write this very personal review, the dentist Dr. Young will know exactly who wrote this. My goal is for the public to be warned what kind of office they are considering going to. Everything in this review is 100% accurate. It began with making the initial appointment, this was during covid-19 when dentists weren't seeing people yet, Dr. Young agreed to see me for X amount of money, for that I was grateful to even get to be seen however. When I got there. After I paid. I was advised that they do not do root canals. That's the whole reason I went, she agreed to prescribe an antibiotic and sent me on my way with a referral to an endondontist(who she said was in Castro Valley) ended up not being in Castro Valley, I had advised her initially I have high dental anxiety and prefer to be in my own city(Castro valley). By this time I still couldn't find anyone open so I called on her for a refill of my antibiotic, reluctantly she agreed. Still searching for someone open another month passes, another round of antibiotics is needed(they are the only thing that helps), she says I need to be seen again and her secretary advises me that it will be X amount of money. I then message Dr. Young directly and say why would I need to be charged again. She then says she wasnt planning on charging again(confused at this point). I make the appointment to go see her again. Disastrous to say the least! I have never been so offended in my life! I was wondering why she kept saying she dosent do root canals(even though initially i was told they do them), she says well we can have it extracted in her office but then comes back and says they cant do it for over a month! WHAT?? Very doubtful that place is that busy! So feeling like I'm getting the run around. I ask her to her face. You just dont want to do anything for me do you, because of my issues. And by the way who the hell dosent have dental anxiety and dentists like her are a big part of why patients aren't comfortable!! BEWARE, this office and that particular dentist are very judgmental and definitely not accommodating to those with "disability" I'm pretty sure this may be borderline illegal practices. To discriminate against a patient with "issues ". She then lastly hands me a paper and says hey go see this oral surgeon(to get a tooth that's already half gone pulled)? WHAT?? isnt that what a regular dentist (like her) would do! My recommendation: FOND A MUCH NICER MORE UNDERSTANDING AND ACCOMODATIOTING DENTIST. read more

Castro Valley Dental Care has and will always be a good memory. Growing up with a very large family the name Dr. Whitehouse was always referred as the dentist. We would never say I have to go to the Dentist, we would say we have to go to Dr. Whitehouse. To be frank, I don't think I knew what a dentist was because I always referred a dentist as Dr. Whitehouse. Dr. Whitehouse has always inspired me in many ways from being a successful entrepreneur, Eagle Scout, and an outstanding role model. As the years have gone on I have always kept going to Dr. Whitehouse for my general checkups until I married. Believe it or not, I even met my wife Dr. Tran who was a dentist at Dr. Whitehouse's office. After my wife and I married, we moved to Orange County to open our own dental office. Even though I have mover, I still look up to Dr. Whitehouse in many ways, because he still is always readily available when I need advice in a timely manner. He has been there when we first decided to buy the office in Orange County and he has been there when I needed help to market our office. Again, I truly believe Dr. Whitehouse is an outstanding dentist who truly wants the best for all his patients. I LOVE Dr Whitehouse! And contrary to one of the other reviews I am NOT his wife. I've been seeing Dr Whitehouse for a couple of years now. I hadn't been to the dentist in over 3 years at the time I changed to Dr W. I had had some horrible and quite frankly, traumatic dental experiences in the past and was terrified of going to the dentist. What drew me to this practice was a direct mail ad that, among other things, offered sedation dentistry. You could have multiple procedures at one time while under sedation which would take care of my fear AND pain. When I had my first appointment he took a lot of time just talking to me. I will agree that his manner of speaking can come off a little condescending but I decided to focus on WHAT he was saying instead of HOW he was saying it. He convinced me to trust him and let him do the first few fillings without sedation or gas, just using Novocaine. I was petrified and took a Xanax before going. I still felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest. Well much to my surprise I didn't feel a thing! He and the dental assistant even have this method of Novocaine delivery that you can't even feel!!! And trust me, I have a very LOW tolerance for pain and very sensitive teeth and gums. I have since had many fillings and root canal that went very well with no pain whatsoever. I would never see another dentist other than Dr Whitehouse. So if you are looking for a great dentist who's very skilled and doesn't even cause pain when administering the Novocaine than Dr Whitehouse is your man. read more

Honestly, Dr. Whitehouse is the best dentist in the Bay Area. I just came back from an appointment and was extremely impressed with the excellent service I received from Dr. Whitehouse and his staff. I needed a new crown; within the hour Dr. Whitehouse built a crown in his "high tech lab" that he has in his office and I walked out with a new and permanent crown. Dr. Whitehouse was friendly and professional. He made sure; I was getting the best treatment that is suited for me. As he was working, he explained the procedure step-by-step and let me know what to anticipate next. He also continuously asked and made sure I wasn't in any kind of discomfort. Of course going there your nervous, but Mike basically held my hand through it all and never once made me feel bad about being scare or ever got impatient with me. I have had terrible experiences at other offices where they either didn't have any people skills and just didn't do good work. I really do feel that I finally found a dental office where I feel at home, and the goal is the same for both of us to keep my mouth healthy. I also don't feel like they are money hungry, we always take my budget into consideration and take care of my teeth with that in mind. I always feel welcome at this dental office!!! All the staff are extremely nice. Even when I'm nervous they always make me feel at ease. So far I've had a great experience with my cleanings and mild dental work. Not only did they have an excellent price on Invisalign but they were very flexible with pricing options. They were fully covered by my insurance which was great. Their staff is always friendly and answers my questions. I've never had any issues with their billing and I've always found their prices to be more than fair. I had a difficult extraction which would have cost me 10x as much to remove had I gone to an oral surgeon but was easily handled by Dr. Whitehouse. This alone saved me $800. Their pricing for Invisalign was also more than $1000 cheaper than other providers in the area. Although I am not finished with my treatment I am happy with the results so far. I found out I am pregnant during the course of my treatment and they have been wonderfully accommodating and answer all of my questions knowledgeably. While some of the decor of the office could use an update, his equipment is state of the art. I work in a related industry and know a lot about dental equipment. Trust me, a lot of dental offices look amazing and use lousy dental equipment which you won't find with Dr. Whitehouse. Don't trust your mouth with a new dentist and cheap equipment just because the office is new, it's not worth it. Don't be disuaded by the reviews on Yelp. We have a few gripes about Dr. Whitehouse so that now we have decided to go elsewhere. Let me first say that the staff there (the hygenists, the front office staff, the assistants) have all been wonderful. I went for an appt there about having tooth pain and it turned out to be a pretty major tooth infection. Before doing a root canal he had to give me anitbiotics to clear up the infection. But he sent me home with no pain medication and by 10pm that evening I was in so much pain I was calling the dentist on call as I was going to need a 24 hour pharmacy at that point. There was a screw up as to who was on call (one dentist thought it was the other dentist on call) so no one got back to me and I had a VERY painful sleepless night. I ended up going to an endodontist the next day. Recently I got another infection in the same area. His partner (I forget her name) prescribed me anitbiotics and said I needed a procedure that would cost $4,700 out of pocket. I said we wouldnt have that kind of money available til after the holidays. Then I had a horrible reaction to the antibiotics (diarreha) and called the office. No doctor got on the phone with me, everything was relayed through the front office staff. The staff person said, "Dr. Whitehouse says stop taking the meds." And I said well, what about the infection? "Dr. Whitehouse says you need to come in for that procedure." Period. But we didnt have the money. They gave me no alternatives for a less costly procedure UNTIL I asked about it myself. And telling me to stop the anitbiotics when I obviously had another infection.....???? My husband doesnt like him either. He had an appointment with him and was left sitting in the dentist chair for 25 minutes and the whole time he could hear him on the phone making a personal call about his Visa card or buying something with his Visa card etc. Meanwhile, my husband is watching the clock because he has to get back to work for an important meeting. read more

Dr. Whitehouse receives one star for being a (terrible) dentist . This stated, I would go to any dentist in Castro Valley except Dr. Whitehouse. He is definitely overpriced and throws in guilt by asking how much you truly value your teeth. With an M.S. degree in how to treat patients, my husband was scared right out of the chair with the cost of his dental work. His chairside manner is condescending and unconcerned with your true comfort. I myself was a patient of Dr. Whitehouse. The latest technology did not prevent less than satisfactory work. When he offered to make up for the dental mishap by performing specialized procedures usually done by oral surgeons, I opted to go elsewhere. I should have made the decision 15 years earlier. Please do not make the same mistake as me. I am glad that one reviewer has been in his care for over 25 years - - I believe that is his wife.
