Working with Josh was an absolute nightmare. If I could give him negative stars, I would. Do…read moreyourself a favor and avoid him at all costs! I hired Josh to refinish my basement, and it turned out to be the biggest mistake I've ever made. Let me start from the beginning. When I first spoke to Josh, he came across as professional and was very responsive to my messages and calls. He mentioned that the scope of the work would take about a week with his "crew of guys." That's what put it over the top for me. I didn't want a long, drawn-out renovation process so I hired him. The moment I paid the initial deposit, the facade of professionalism disappeared. Josh immediately canceled the first day and pushed the project back a half-week so he could "order materials". This was a lie. The first day Josh showed up, he was three hours late and was clearly hung over. To my surprise, he didn't bring any materials and got absolutely no work done. When he came back the next day, it was more of the same. He got nothing done and had no materials. Finally, on day three, he worked an actual full day of work (this was the only time this would happen). The day Josh completed framing, he went to Lowe's and came back with framing material. I figured he would just bring all of the material at once, which would be more efficient. But no, he would piecemeal materials every time he needed something and would take up half the day at the hardware store. When he moved on to drywall, he left several pieces outside and said he'd be back the next day and would bring them inside then. He ended up canceling both days over the weekend, and there was a huge storm in the forecast Sunday. I was forced to carry about 10 pieces of drywall down into the basement by myself to avoid the rain. When Josh finally began hanging drywall panels, he did so without installing insulation. I was provided a quote for insulation, and I would have never completed this project without it. When I called Josh out on this, he didn't have a valid reason. He knew I caught him in a scam and made up some BS excuse that made zero sense. I should have fired him immediately, but I was already in the hole for $10,000. Instead of going through a lengthy legal battle to get back my money, I gave him a third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh chance. Josh never once brought a crew of workers; it was almost always just him. When he did show up to work, which was rare, he would only work for two to three hours and then leave. After about a month of working on the project, the only thing Josh had completed was framing and hanging drywall. He had the audacity to ask me for another deposit for extra electrical work he never finished and flooring that I never received. This was my mistake; I should have never given him the extra $1,000, but I thought it would show my good faith and motivate him to work a full day. Unfortunately, it did not. After about a month into the project (3 weeks over the stated timeframe), I started to emphasize the deadline I had to complete the project. Josh kept claiming that he would finish it on time, but he showed up even less and less frequently. He canceled five days the last week he worked for me. Finally, I had enough and fired him. I ended up finishing the work myself and had to fix all of his mistakes and poor workmanship. If an inspection had been conducted, there's no way it would have passed. The moment I fired Josh was the first time in over a month that I felt some sense of relief. We all make mistakes, but please don't let hiring J Dean Enterprises be one of them.

I have to take a few deep breaths before writing this review…read more We had Alexandria Windows come out to replace a few windows two summers ago. The communication and scheduling was lacking, so we were a little frustrated, but it didn't prepare us for the ordeal we were going to be dealing with. We live in an old house, 1920's. My husband expressed this many times, that appropriate measures would have to be taken as we had lead in our old windows and trim. I heard him over the phone as well as in person and he was assured they would take the steps necessary. The day the windows were to be replaced, my kids and I left the house. Two windows were in our daughters room, the other in our guest bedroom. One window was oriented the wrong way and still installed. The worst part was, after removing the old windows, the workers took leaf blowers out to blow debris out into the yard below and all over the rooms. My husband ran upstairs and yelled at them to stop, that once again, there was lead paint involved. They stopped and cleaned up, but not well enough. My husband wiped everything down afterwards, not trusting it was cleaned properly. A few months later, my daughter received test results showing elevated levels of lead in her blood. It was quick and not a single other person in our family had any detectable levels. I was livid. I'm still livid. I don't care that one of our windows is wrong or that it took forever to arrange communication. I'm livid that lead safe practices weren't followed as promised and my child had to pay for it. You can't put a price on that. Thankfully, she's grown, and the situation is under control now, but if you have an old house, I would absolutely not recommend this company. To the owner, if your business gives homeowners your word that things will be done safely and following safe standards, you need to follow through. Safety should be top priority. This could have had a very poor outcome.

He came in with the idea of just covering up the window (especially since a window can be installed later if we wanted). Instead of making it a bigger profit job he focused on what is best for the layout even if it meant the job was smaller. The conversations with Mike have been very thought provoking and really made me focus on what is best for us rather than him just doing what I thought we wanted. We asked about a skylight for the bathroom since both our bathrooms don't have windows and he said he wouldn't as its the number one cause of leaks so he once again showed that he cared to make sure we are after peace of mind. So we ended up just covering up one window to move our entertainment center. He hired a drywall contractor (one with 42 years of experience) to make sure the wall looked seamless. Mike said you can do most of the job yourself pretty easy but the Dry Wall part is a work of art and it showed. I had a unique idea that since this was an exterior wall I wanted to build a PVC shoot for cabling for future proofing a TV hanging on the wall in case we had to change cables. The drywall contractor made it look so clean. Initially it was a 1 day drywall job but because it was cold the mud wouldn't set in time so they came back the following day to make sure it was done right. Truly couldn't be happier with the quality of labor. Mike's scheduling might be a little random at times but rest assured the quality is superb.

I reached out to a number of companies, but Mike spent the most time with me on the phone, talked through all options, which one he thought was the best one and why. He wasn't the cheapest quote, but the slider he recommended was the highest quality out of all the other quotes, and with something I use multiple times a day, it seemed worth the investment. While the slider itself is amazing, the best part of the investment was the attention to detail and care Mike had for install- I have a 1920s home with original wood trim work, but in the addition where the slider is located, they put up standard white 80s trim. My plan has been to transition the addition over to the same feel as the rest of the house, so Mike custom stained the one I ordered to match what was already in the house, then took the time to trim it out in the same Craftsman style for a cohesive look. Install day was super easy, the team made sure everything stayed clean, and dealt with some surprises and challenges with the uneven walls of an old home. This is someone you can trust and will make sure they care for your own home like it's their own. When it's time for new windows, I'll absolutely have them come back out.
