I've been taking my cats to the Cat Clinic of Johnson County for over 20 years now. My cats past and present have had excellent experiences here and have been able to live their lives to the fullest because of the care they've received. Dr. Taylor and Dr. Dechant are positive, kind, knowledgeable, and very good at listening. I like that this clinic has a calm atmosphere and is not a cold, intimidating place. That's really important when you are worried about your pet. You can relax here. Even the heartbreaking experience of making final decisions about your pet is bearable in an environment where the staff obviously have planned and considered how to sensitively lead you through that difficult situation. The front desk staff are also welcoming and enthusiastic. They are very knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and patient. If you have a cat, this is where you should go for care. It makes a difference that they specialize in and cater to cats specifically. It means you are getting the most up-to-date care and there are no other types of pets present to stress out your cat. I have been searching for a vet clinic for a while that specializes in cat treatment. Both of my cats have their own unique issues pertaining to respiratory and otherwise.The vet clinic that I have taken them to their entire lives is great, but unfortunately mostly deals with dogs. I decided to take the leap and finally try my luck with the cat clinic. Everyone here was very friendly. The vet we saw spent a ton of time explaining what she saw with my cats. I really appreciated that she took the time needed so that I could understand my cats behaviors and what would potentially be a concern. Overall I would recommend this place if you're looking for specialized care as she had a wealth of knowledge. Just for awareness - they do have a new patient deposit fee and they don't apply the entire amount to your appointment. If you are over 15 minutes late, there is a 45 dollar fee even if you have appointments back to back. read more

We've been very happy with the vet care for our sweet older cat Jasmine. When we were planning a trip, we decided to board her there, instead of having a friend look in on her at our house. We are so glad we did! They took excellent care of her, and gave us updates daily, even including some photos! We saw she was content and cared for. We just had WONDERFUL new patient visits for my two cats! Front desk Rebecca was very knowledgeable, from booking our appointments to checkin, paperwork, and payment processing. We got to see Dr. Dechant who was incredibly knowledgeable, and shared that knowledge with me in a kind and compassionate manner. They addressed issues in an easy-to-understand way all the while providing efficient and kind care to my cats who were a bit nervous. Assistant Maya kept the cats safe, calm, and was a great support to both the doctor, and to me (wrangling two cats at once can be done, but so nice to have the offer of help!). I had two cats who have been treated at the Cat Clinic by Dr. Taylor. Recently, I had to euthenize my little Mitzy due to an autoimmmunie disease that would not respond to treatment. Dr. Taylor and the staff were so very compassionate and caring, staying with us until the end and beyond. There is a special room for such services that is comforting and inviting, not a sterile clinical setting. They have made room for us when there were no appointments and have made sure our cats' needs are met. We just moved from California a few months ago and having three cats, all with chronic issues, feeling comfortable with a vet is so important and Dr. Taylor did not disappoint! I'm so glad I found Cat Clinic of Johnson County. I needed to get my kitty in last minute and they were so helpful! Luckily they had an opening and were able to get me in the same day. They emailed all the paperwork to me ahead of time to fill out. With covid they are limiting people coming inside, so instead when you arrive you park in a numbered slot and call to tell them you are there. A tech came out to get my kitty all checked in and talked to me about what was going on. She took him inside and they called me while they were doing his exam so I could still be a part of the appointment even though I was in my car outside. They gave me great advice and even gave my cat a little mouse toy (which he loved and played with for two days straight). I wouldn't hesitate to bring my cat back here again. Everyone at the Cat Clonic genuinely understands, cares for, appreciates and speaks the "kitty language", which I love!The vets and technicians work very hard to make you and your kitties comfortable and relaxed and they do their best to be efficient and quick to decrease the amount and length of times the kitties are stressed, in pain, etc. I think the Cat Clinic does a great job at making their services and procedures affordable, as we all know how expensive vet visits can get. Our cat has had two appointments in the past week. During the first appointment, we had to wait for an hour before the vet saw us. During our second appointment, we waited 40. The office did not seem busy, but even if it was, we didn't expect to wait that long. Our cat is fairly anxious when we go to the vet, so the long waits didn't help. In addition, our kitty was having urinary problems, so it didn't make sense to have us wait that long either (poor baby ended up peeing on herself during those visits right before they did a urinalysis). The staff there are incredibly helpful and nice, but the professionalism on timing has turned us off. We're honestly thinking about just driving the 30 miles back to Lawrence to see our previous vet at the Lawrence Cat Clinic (we just moved to the area from Lawrence) for our follow up and future appointments. read more

I can't believe no one has written a review about the Cat Clinic of Johnson County. We have been taking our little fur ball here for 13 years. Dr. Irene and Dr. Walker are so great. One of the best things about Cat Clinic of JoCo is that they only treat cats. You don't have to worry about dogs or birds or any other kind of animal to be there to upset your little kitty. They take in kitties and apdot them out, they have house cats that roam the halls and help with paper work. Everyone there is great and helps with whatever needs to be done. They are gentle with the cats and the cat parents. We can be an emotional bunch, and no I am not a crazy cat lady. We only have one cat but she has been with us for 13 years and she is our baby or fur kid whatever you want to call her. Our kitty is getting old 70 in human years and they are even extra special with her. Making sure she is not to stressed out and do the absolute best they can to keep her calm. I have recommended them to many people and will send anyone that has a cat and needs a vet here. read more

We take all of our cats to the Cat Clinic of JoCo, they are the best at feline specialty care. With a focus solely on cats, they are in tune to all the nuances of feline health and rare conditions unlike traditional veterinary offices. From boarding and grooming our kitties to diagnosis and treatment or routine care, they are always attentive and caring for our fur babies and know them all by name and personality quirks so we can chat about them all during any of their individual appointments. We credit Cat Clinic of JoCo for saving our oldest kitty, Princess when she had a rare bile duct infection and a rare stone in her bladder on separate occasions. Ordinary veterinarians wouldn't have been able to make such a quick diagnosis and treatment plans in time to save her life. She's a handful and we're thankful to still have our cranky old lady around the house. :) read more

Update: Been taking Coco here for over 6 months and I'm still incredibly happy with their services. I just wanted to add a review for their boarding services, since I know it's unusual and people might be curious. I called a couple of weeks ahead of time, since I would be traveling during spring break and I didn't want them to be full. I got her the smallest cat condo, which at this time is $23/day, plus additional charges for doing SQ fluids for her. All in for that was, I believe $101, which is about what I'd pay for a petsitter for the 3 nights and they obviously are trained to do SQ fluids. They ran through every thing, explained costs up front, as every possible question about my cat's needs and likes. They let the kitties roam the room while they clean the "condos" so they get some human interaction while they are there too. Highly recommend if your kitty had special needs. If she didn't have special needs, I probably would have left her at home with a big bowl of water and food, and keys with a friend to check on her, rather than pay someone, but definitely worth the money if your animal needs anything more than food and water, and the occasional check in. read more

Called Cat Clinic of JoCo 15 minutes before they closed, as my cat was having an emergency. They stayed late to see me, but I was never rushed, and Dr. Taylor spent lots of time explaining symptoms, blood work, and dosage. Her deep love for cats really shows. Clinic was clean and homey, really nice to know they do boarding if I ever need it. Pricing was explained upfront, and was more than fair. Saved me lots of $ from having to go to Blue Pearl. Had a follow up call the next day checking up on the patient. I feel 100% comfortable with Dr. Taylor. I think I have found my new vet. read more

Our older cat had not been eating well and had lost weight. This is a bit of a 10 year pattern with her, but when she stopped eating entirely, she was seen on an emergency basis at a local emergency clinic. Later, when we took her to the Cat Clinic, she was diagnosed and treated. Within a day, she started eating. Less than a week later, she is eating and asking for more food! The staff at the Cat Clinic of Johnson County was caring and competent. Dr. Taylor was knowledgeable and gave us thorough explanations. This first-rate, cat-only, veterinary service is a real asset to this area. When a cat is ill, they do not want to be around barking dogs. Just ask any cat, they are not shy about discussing it. read more

We needed to board our sweet kitty over the holidays, and I was referred to the Cat Clinic of Johnson County by the director at Purrfect Pets. My experience was great. Staff and vet were very nice, and I enjoyed hanging out in the cozy waiting area with some of the resident cats. They gave our cat a thorough exam before boarding, clipped her nails, gave her a precautionary flea treatment, and when I told the staff that she wasn't so fond of other felines, they placed her in a brand new suite so she wouldn't have to smell or see "other" kitties! The best surprise was when I picked her up - they provided me with a report card of her time there, a beautiful photo collage (with some candid kitty pictures of her), and even a personalized Christmas stocking with a toy inside. Last week, I brought my cat, Lucy, to the Cat Clinic as a new patient. I had been wanting to bring her there for preventive care since the office is a convenient location for me, but when Lucy suddenly wasn't acting like herself, I knew a visit would need to happen sooner than I had planned. The clinic was able to get me in on the same day that I called, and the front desk staff, the vet techs, and Dr. Taylor were all extremely accommodating and friendly. I was impressed with how much and how clearly Dr. Taylor explained what was going on with Lucy and how she answered all our questions. I had to bring Lucy back twice within the week for further treatments, and again, the entire staff was very helpful and encouraging. Already, they are familiar with Lucy and me, and I can tell they really care about Lucy getting better and helping me take the best measures to treat her. I have been on the phone several times with them, speaking with both the front desk staff and Dr. Taylor herself, and the level of care and service they provide over the phone is above and beyond. When I left Lucy at the clinic for a few hours to receive syringe feeding treatments, the receptionist even called me while I was at work to update me with good news about Lucy's condition. Because of their incredible customer service, compassion, and dedication--especially since they only focus on cats, so they can really devote their energy toward feline issues--I would recommend the Cat Clinic of Johnson County to any cat owner. As far as pricing, I have been pleasantly surprised at the cost of everything so far. Having little experience with other vets, I can't fairly compare and say whether the Cat Clinic is more or less expensive than others, but I definitely don't feel the pricing is outrageous; what I have been charged with seems extremely reasonable. read more

She gave us an explanation of what happened, how to treat the condition, and what to expect in the future if we say symptoms of end of life. This is a very difficult review to write as we have been clients of the Cat Clinic of Johnson County for over 25 years and until recently would never have considered moving. We felt that Dr. Schomacker was one of the finest cat vets around. The care at this clinic seems to have changed since she recently retired. The first thing we noticed was a big turnover in personnel. Almost no one we were familiar with is still there. We decided, however, that we would give Dr. Taylor a chance to keep our business. On May 13 we took our very special 18 YO kitty in to be checked after we noticed that she was experiencing loss of bladder control in her sleep. We left her with them for half a day so they could draw urine for a urinalysis. The verdict was that she had a very bad bladder infection. I asked Dr. Taylor directly if we needed to consider putting this kitty to sleep. She assured me that was not the case. We were given pain medication and antibiotics (Orbax) and charged $300. On May 23 we took her back as there was no improvement in her condition. We were told that another UA indicated that the antibiotics had not worked and she still had the infection. We were given more pain medication and a different antibiotic (Clavamox) and charged another $260. This kitty was already on thyroid medication, and we were told to increase the dosage because her heart rate was high and she had lost some weight. NO BLOOD WAS DRAWN at either of these visits. Our kitty continued to decline (refusing to eat), and we were now in the middle of the Memorial Day weekend. A neighbor who has considerable experience in cat rescues and attending sick kitties was kind enough to look at her. She gave her fluids twice and also syringed food to get her through the weekend. She suggested that we might want to get a second opinion from her vet. On May 27, the day after Memorial Day, we took her to the second vet who obtained a copy of the urinalysis tests from the Cat Clinic. Imagine our shock when she told us that the tests indicated that our kitty did NOT have a bladder infection at all. She drew blood and called us the next morning with the devastating news. Our girl's kidneys had shut down, and euthanasia was the only option. It is believed that the Cat Clinic probably did not spin the urine as protocol would indicate, and their test resulted in a false positive for infection. It was bad enough that we were charged nearly $600 for an incorrect diagnosis. Even worse was the fact that our kitty suffered for over two weeks because of the error. I wrote a letter to Dr. Taylor as we were far too upset for a personal conversation. We heard nothing from her--not an apology or an offer of a refund (which we felt was the least they could do). We have lost all confidence in this clinic and will never go back. They are quite expensive compared to other clinics, but we were willing to pay extra for the assurance that our cats had the best of care. Now we believe they are just expensive and give questionable care. read more

Dr. Tash Taylor is hands down the single best veterinarian I've ever taken any of my animals to. Tash's love and compassion for what she does really and truly shows through her work! This clinic is like family .. you're never rushed, confused, or blindsided by any of the costs they are always very upfront and treat your fur baby like it's one of their own. Office is extremely clean, inviting and just always gives me great joy and satisfaction bringing my cats in for a visit because I know they are going to receive the best possible treatment and care . Thankfully I asked around and found a country pet clinic that saved me over a grand for the same service. $1200 for teeth cleaning and removal is ridiculous. We love the Cat Clinic. We have been going to this clinic for many years. We rarely even have a wait and if we do, it's never longer than about five minutes - and yet we have never felt that the vet was in a hurry to rush us through our appointments, either. The staff members are all wonderful and the vets have been great about meeting our cats various needs and doing so with great care. When the time came for each of our elderly cats to leave this world, we (owners AND cats) were treated with the utmost compassion. I'm so mad at myself that I haven't been taking my cats to this vet! After an extremely disheartening experience with our previous vet, I decided to switch to the Cat Clinic. I am so happy I did! I brought in my 8-yr-old kitty who had a fairly severe injury to her toe, and the entire staff was caring, experienced, and gentle. I was very impressed with the vet, and vet tech -- they were both knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely care about my cat and her health. They do seem to be a tad pricier than some other vets, but I believe that the cost is worth it -- it's reflected in the care they give their patients.
