Whenever my husband is in Ridgewood, Catania Bakery is a guaranteed pit stop on his way home. Catania is our go-to for freshly baked bread and 7-inch cakes. While breakfast is the most important meal, our household likes to flip the script and start our day with dessert. Our sweet tooth has never been disappointed by the taste or texture of Catania's baked goods. We have tried half a dozen of their cakes including Oreo, chocolate mousse, carrot, cannoli cream, and red velvet. My frontrunners have been the Oreo and the chocolate mousse. However, I have not tried their strawberry shortcake. So there is room for another fave if it rises to the occasion. Fresh? Sweet? Rich? Well, look no further because Catania Bakery has it all. I am grateful that they continue to spread love with every slice.

Catania is a Queens staple. This bakery is a joy to walk into and watch operate. Fresh breads and pastries pumping out all day. Each person that works behind the counter knows more than the last about what's the best to get, when a fresh batch is coming out and how much of it you should get for your party/company ! Let's get down to it. The lobster tails. THE BEST IVE EVER HAD. So light and crunchy. You could eat them all day, and I usually do when I get them! This is a must go

People, please get lobster tail. It is amazingly good. The flaky shells with soft custard inside compliment each other. It is a nice neighborhood Italian bakery, you could find all delicious pastries. The service is good and quick. Your craving for sweet will be fulfilled.

I lived in Glendale for two years before moving out West. I made regular trips to Catania when we had special occasions. The neighborhood hasn't changed much and I'm happy to see that Catania has survived the pandemic. I absolutely love their Rainbow cookies. Their Sicilian Casata cake is very delicious, and their Cannoli's are fabulous. A must for fans of Italian treats.

I've been going to Catania for years since I was a kid and over the years they've gotten worse and worse . Last year I ordered a cake for my best friends gender reveal it tasted like it was in the freezer for 2 weeks . I gave it another chance , BOUGHT ANOTHER CAKE SAME THING , so I stopped going all together . A few weeks ago I decided to order a smash cake for my daughters $400 first birthday photoshoot , I spoke to a woman over the phone who asked if I can send a picture of the cake design I wanted and she would ask the baker if he can do it ... she said yes he can , great . So this weekend I picked up my cake at 830am .. the girl at the counter pulled it out . My jaw dropped . I was literally mortified . It looked like my almost 1 year old made the designs on it , it looked like weed plants, it looked like a man's genitals . It literally looked like everything BUT my picture I sent .. I am so disappointed , I couldn't reschedule my daughters photoshoot or I would have . Below is what I asked for the pink and the blue one ( all I asked was for variety's of pink .. and the pink and white is what I got .. NEVER EVER AGAIN . Even the girl at the counter said she's at a loss for words ..

Hey boss, haayoodooin? I cames here by 9:30am and ordered 24 pastries. Everyding was already fully stocked. Whaat? They open at 6:00am! Dat ain't no fugazy! There were 2 customers ahead of me and everyone was wearing masks and social distanced. Staff were friendly and accommodating. No one was messin around at the Johnny pump or anyding. They wake up at 4am and still in a good mood, know what I mean? Pastries looked great, tasted bettah. A few items were already running low at 9:30am! I said, "Gimme tree of dohs and tree of dohs! And tree of dat!" The desserts were for a lunch party and kid you not, them folks destroyed everyding it was so good. My personal fav are the lobstah tails. We had 6 cannolis and they were filled fresh on the spot. Fuhgeddaboudit! Our friends loved it. They said it was the best cannolis they have ever had!!

We came by the day before Mother's Day, so they had pre decorated Mother's Day cakes. You can also place an order. Service is quick and friendly. We initially planned on getting a Strawberry Shortcake, as that seemed to be the cake to get. However, we opted for the Cheesecake, because we were able to add fresh strawberries (and whipped cream) on top! I'm not a fan of whipped cream, so I avoided that, but everyone seemed to enjoy. It had a good creamy texture and was not too sweet. The strawberries were indeed fresh. The pound cake was soft and airy. The vanilla flavor comes through. I will have to try the Marbled version next time! Note: Cash Only! A regular customer ordered the tiramisu cake; said it was the best cake ever, so will have to try that next time!

A friend recommended it to me, and I've already ordered two birthday cakes from here. The tiramisu cake was absolutely delicious, honestly one of the best I've ever had. I didn't even know you could customize a tiramisu cake since it's usually served the traditional way, but they made it exactly how I wanted. As someone who loves tiramisu, this really stood out. I also ordered a strawberry shortcake, and it was just as impressive. The buttercream was so good , light, flavorful, and not overly sweet. Everyone loved it, and there wasn't a single slice left. The owner's son (I believe) was super helpful, he really takes the time to understand what you want and brings it to life perfectly. I've also tried their croissants, which are huge and delicious, and the hero bread is excellent too. Just a heads-up: they only accept cash.I'll definitely be ordering all my cakes from here moving forward!

But turn the menu over, and you'll find that they're probably the best Indonesian restaurant in Queens right now. The food is excellent and fresh, the service is friendly, and the place is clean and relaxing--a trifecta that is not easy to find. On our last visit, we tried the Smashed/Penyetan tofu and tempeh, which were perfectly prepared and seasoned. You know a chef knows what they're doing when the deep-fried dishes aren't at all greasy or oily. We also had the Indonesian/Malay classic Char Kwe Tiau, a rice-noodle dish, and their Hainan Chicken. We've also enjoyed their Seafood Gravy Noodle, which is much better than what you can find at Tastes Good; the Batagor--fried tofu and fish dumplings served with peanut sauce; and their excellent Gado Gado salad. Their chili sauces and kecap manis appear homemade and are top-notch. This place is a gem!
