One of the best cannolis I've had outside of Italy. Try the chocolate one with a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice. It takes you right back to a coffee shop in Italy and instantly refreshes your day. I also highly recommend the pretzel buns. They're perfectly chewy and soft. If you get bagels or the cheese Danish, I'd suggest warming them up a bit at home, about 30 seconds. It really brings their soul back with a little extra warmth. I cannot recall the last time I went to a bakery, purchased 5 items and spent under $30!?!! This lovely neighborhood bakery has so many options. They have cookies, cakes, pastries, rolls, bread, coffee, and entire cakes available for you to walk out with on the spot. Their pretzel rolls are very popular so you have to get there early for those. Every time I've come here, even before their brief closing I was always met with a warm welcome. I've been going to Glendale Bake Shop for years. I know they are under new owners. But they have to use the recipe for Irish Soda Bread the previous owner had for years. I tried the Soda Bread recentry & it's night and day. It was really bad. The price was right & the size but bad recipe. I send everyone there for the Soda Bread, but no more. I really wanted to give this place a better review but my crumb cake was stale and not the first time. This last time was worst than the others. It is a local shop, where people from the neighborhood come and have breakfast and sit at one of the small tables they have off to the back and side wall. It has the mom & pop feel and the prices are really good but a quality check needs to be done. Toss the old stuff and give us a taste of fresh baked goods. Stay away! My boyfriend was in the neighborhood and decided to buy some treats to surprise me. He told me that upon entering, the bakery didn't look that good, but he decided to still give it a shot. He should have listened to his gut! He got a slice of coffee crumb cake, which was dry and stale. He also got a chocolate muffin, which he said was just okay and nothing special. Walked in here to see the display, and instantly had to buy my favorite cake of all time. Blackout cake isn't very common nowadays, so it's nice to see this long-standing bakery have an old Brooklyn classic on the menu. I will say, it's not the best blackout cake I've ever had (there's an odd taste at first bite), but it's still decadent and satisfying. If you're in a rush to catch a bus or if you're already late for work, you should think twice about coming here. They sorta move like snails. It took about 15 min from start to finish. I've been going here my entire life. This Bake Shop has super inexpensive delicious baked goods, cakes, cupcakes, donuts, bagels, as well as a full line of Boar's Head cold cuts.
