Stopped by here on the way to Dallas for lunch. The fish was pretty good. The salad bar was decent. The okra was better than average. The fries were good. They make a really good ranch dressing. I also suspect they make their own tartar and cocktail sauces because they are way better than average. The only thing we didn't care for was the coleslaw. My initial reaction to the restaurant was as we were walking up to it. The front porch with the long row of rockers reminded me of a Cracker Barrel. It's not. Never has been. The wait staff was friendly, but at times they were somewhat preoccupied. There were times that we were left alone. As in nobody taking an order or delivering an order or letting us know what the status was of our order. That would be the reason for the four stars versus five. The salad bar was good, I thought the best thing on it surprisingly was the big bowl of pinto beans at the end. They were delicious. Otherwise, the salad bar was somewhat basic but good. First time here, the entrance is nice and has a water area and plants. Upon entry there was a pungent smell but once seated the smell dissipated. The feeling in the restaurant is a cross between Cracker Barrell and Texas Roadhouse with the Peanut bucket. The food was ok at best, the Catfish was lightly breaded, they have there own style of Hushpuppies that I thought were cheese sticks as that's what they looked like and the fries were good. The salad bar unfortunately is near the bathrooms that did not smell the best. Maybe moving the salad bar would be better but I am sure this has been the set up for awhile. The staff was friendly and courteous! I do enjoy that the entrees come with a trip to the salad bar included, and I think multiple trips aren't frowned upon! After being seated, she suggested the catfish lunch special, so I did. A very good salad bar, with sweet juicy coleslaw. It goes great with hush puppies. I don't like the dry, vinegary coleslaw. My 3 piece catfish arrives, and it's....ok. Not great, not bad, just average. I enjoyed my meal, but it won't bring me back. I think $15 is a little high for a lunch special, but to each his own. I put skid marks on the highway when I saw this restaurant's name on the way to Amarillo. I'd been waiting five days to introduce my wife to Texas fried catfish. Parking lot was completely full. The older host, in the beige suit, who sat us, told us he was part owner and that the restaurant had been around for 10 years. The outside and inside décor reminded me of a Cracker Barrel. They have rocking chairs, wooden tables, and paintings of game animals. I had to take a photo of the catfish painting (see attached) because I never see catfish artwork. We noticed a lot of Texas plates in the parking lot and lots of Decatur locals in the seats, always a sign of a good restaurant. The peanuts I sampled from a metal bucket on our table were good, with just the right amount of salt. My wife and I each ordered the lunch special (M-F, 11 am - 2 pm), 3 catfish fillets with tartar and cocktail sauce, 4 hushpuppie sticks, fries, and salad bar for $10.95. Unfortunately, the catfish is not from a local farm, but delivered by Ben E. Keith. Still, the catfish was perfectly fried with just the right amount of breading to be crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. I enjoyed both sauces with the fish. The hushpuppies and fries were both tasty without being greasy. That salad was on point, super fresh and crisp, and we both tapped out without sampling the hot pinto beans from the salad bar. I asked both the friendly waitress and the part owner to buy a t-shirt (all the waitresses were wearing Catfish O'harlies t-shirts in different colors with a catfish on the back!). Menu looked good with catfish prominent but also shrimp, chicken, chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken. I even saw a steak on there. The meal also comes with a very good salad bar with a large choice of toppings and extras like a hot bowl of pinto beans (that was only lukewarm today). The food was delivered in about 12 minutes. Large pieces of excellent catfish, some of the best shrimp I've had in a long time, and hot, crispy fries. The Cole slaw was average and the hush puppies were very good. The plate also came with two sauces. The meal was excellent, the drinks large, and the service was great. Did not get a chance to try one of the fried pies (order 15 minutes in advance), but other customers told me they were outstanding. So if you find yourself on highway 380 going towards Wichita Falls, look for this place on the left just past Decatur. It's worth the stop. read more
