My family and I have gone here for years and we've always enjoyed their food! They have a huge menu and everything tastes great. The staff are also very nice and were great at knowing what foods would be good for me to eat with my celiacs. My mother and I got take out from here the other night and I really enjoyed it! She goes there regularly, I was just visiting her. They have a really large menu. We got crab Rangoon, pad Thai, fried rice, and sesame tofu. Everything was delicious (and we got more than meal out of it). Very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend. read more

I heard about this place from other people, and we decided as a family to try it today. This is located in a strip mall near mall rd, very easy to find. When we arrived it's 3:30 so the lunch special is over, we were greeted by a wait staff, and seated right away. I observed it was not busy during that time, there's only 3 tables occupied. She gave us menu, but did not get our drink orders. When she came to our table she asked if were ready to order- I said can you get our drink order first and starters/ appetizers. She said we can order everything all at once if we're ready. I said I need a minute, & I want to order-our drinks first and appetizers. Short story- we got all our orders in. We ordered potstickers, pork on a sticks, calamari and sweet and sour soup. I rated all these appetizers as 3 for taste, and 4 for the price. The main dishes, dinner price is average so I rated that as 3, and taste and presentation 5. For entree, I ordered beef yaki udon, my husband got pork fried rice, and my daughter ordered chicken lo mein. All of the main dishes were delicious and the portions were good size- it can serve 2-3 people. I rate my whole experience as 3 due to the unnecessary noise in the restaurant, it sounds like I am next to a daycare center. They also don't accept American Express credit card. I am glad I have other credit card with me or else I will be washing dishes right now. I recommend this place to eat, check it out for a good Chinese or Asian food. read more

I also love how you can taste real orange in the orange chicken. Also the service was absolutely amazing, friendliest staff I've ever met, never ran out of water, and it was fast. We always love to eat at Cathay Kitchen. Michelle remembers our names and really enjoys serving fresh meals. The food is the best on the Florence Mall strip. If anyone hasn't been to this establishment then you haven't had the best Chinese food around. Our daughter will miss her favorite Walnut Chicken, while she is away to college. We had Cathay cater her high school graduation party and everyone really enjoyed their meal. It was a nice break from your typical grill out. We enjoy the service at the restaurant, they are always trying so hard to make your meal a special event. Right down to the orange slices and fortune cookies at the end of you dining experience. This is such a wonderful place; beautiful atmosphere and the food was delicious. I took my family here (who are Asian immigrants) and they commented that the food was just right, being neither too greasy nor dry. They got a variety of fried rice, and I got some tofu dishes (one fried and one soft). Definitely recommend :) Vegetarian friendly! read more

Sweet and sour chicken- typical in quality and what you'd expect from the sugary red sauce. Orange chicken had a funny flavor and the chicken itself was filled with fatty weird pieces which is a deal breaker for me. read more

A small place... but it by far the best Chinese in the area. I strongly recommend the crab rangoon! I took my parents here and my dad said it was the best egg roll he'd ever had - I'll take his word on it because I am not much of an egg roll fan. I have never had a meal here I didn't love! The waitress was very friendly and her English is much better than when I first came here over a year ago. I do remember a year or so ago the KY Dept. of Revenue had shut it down... not sure the story behind it, but it opened back up in a few days and the food is just as good as it always was. The prices are good as well and then offer lunch (and lunch prices) 7 days a week. However I went with some friends from work on Valentine's Day and they charged dinner prices because it was a "holiday". read more

I'm not a fan of Chinese food; I must let that be known. I find it greasy, overly salty, and made of the worst cuts of meat, poultry, etc. However, what I do love about Cathay Kitchen are the healthy options. They have a section of their menu where they will steam your choice of vegetables and a protein choice (even tofu) and serve it with steamed rice with sauce on the side. This place was great! Better Chinese than we've found anywhere in the neighborhood in Cleveland where we live. We had the crab rangoons, which were great and generously filled. The potstickers were good too. I had the honey pecan chicken, which was different than anything I'd had anywhere else. Nice little battered chicken bites with a sweet glaze. But not the tiny cheap chicken bites, I'll wager these were hand-battered. The pecans were big and they were candied to match the dish. Awesome. The fried rice left a little to be desired, though. But don't let that stop you from checking this place out! We were there on my husband's reset (he is a trucker) and went on Christmas Day. The staff was friendly and answered our questions well. I can say that this place is the only good Chinese restaurant in Florence, KY. I won't say it is the best in the world but they know how to cook tasty Chinese food. I have been to several Chinese restaurants in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati areas and I have never tasted a food that can give a spicy punch to the tongue. We are disappointed. We paid $37 for our normal Chinese restaurant order instead of the usual $25. The sesame chicken was way too sweet and under par, the wontons in the wonton soup were RAW, and the fried pork dumplings were only fried on the bottom and pure white everywhere else. The lo mein was average and the Thai curry was actually pretty good. Not eating here again. Most of the good reviews I read were from a year ago...maybe it's changed since then. read more

We had a great dinner here and the place was clean and service was very attentive and super friendly. As a vegan, I made a couple of requests and they bent over backwards to serve exactly what I ordered. When I add reviews, it's based on the professionalism of the company, it's management and employees. In particular I value the service based on my gluten intolerance and the knowledge of the staff, with common decencies that all businesses should attain to. The cook (owner?) and his wife, I have a good relationship with, they know exactly what is in their food. They even know what type of food starch they use (because some starches have gluten). I will ask if the recipe has wheat, soy sauce, or other gluten derivatives and they will know instantly. The service and loyalty of this business is stellar. Granted, some times I have to wait for my my food, but when is good food done right not worth waiting for? read more

We stopped for lunch about 1:00 on the Tuesday after Labor day, and the place was nearly deserted (one other couple). Since this was our first visit, we played it safe (Rick's Rule of Fine or Not-So-Fine Dining #56: Never challenge the menu on the first date). First, be absolutely sure to try the Dim Sum appetizer, a steal at $5.95. Six exquisite tiny dumplings (pork and shrimp, three apiece), with perfectly seasoned scallion/ginger dipping sauce. These would not be out of place at one of San Francisco's high-end dim sum places, they're that good. For lunch, J had the General Tso's Chicken, I had the Szechuwan String Beans and Chicken. Both were darned near perfect, with appropriate (=not dumbed-down, but not incendiary, either) heat levels. For those folks who don't like spicy food, there are lots of other options. Service was quick and pleasant, if not particularly attentive. More when we've been back...and we will. read more
