I have flown with this airline twice before and experience wasn't too bad. However, I recently booked 7 international flights for my whole family. I had to contact customer service multiple times which involved a minimum of 45 minutes each time with someone in the Philippines who barely spoke English. After finally getting everything resolved and my flights all booked 4 months in advance, I have my seats and flights changed or cancelled 3 times with still 90 days to go. The last change went from a 2 hour layover to 10 hrs which just wont work for us. I finally just cancelled all 7 tickets. Now I look on their website and they are still offering the original flight I had but for $1300 instead of $1000 each I had paid! So, they bumped me just to charge more?? When booking with CATHAY PACIFIC AIRLINES BEWARE !!! It's one of the worst airlines ever which has no proper services for the customers boarding the flight. And denies taking responsibility for the inconvenience caused by them. My dad is traveling with Cathay Pacific. His flight from Los Angeles to Hong Kong got delayed by 45mins and his flight from Hong Kong to Delhi (India) got redirected to Kolkata and then to Delhi. But, He reached Kolkata and He had to collect all his baggage at Kolkata. Still unaware of the flight status from Kolkata to Delhi (He paid for extra baggage to collect it at Delhi). He has another flight from Delhi to Visakhapatnam with a domestic airline - Indigo which my dad couldn't board because of the delay and inconvenience caused my Cathay Pacific airlines. The cathay Pacific representatives denied taking responsibility to rebook/send him by the next available flight to Visakhapatnam (he has booking with all the extra baggage already paid for). read more

I used cathay pacific for a multi-city trip, Hong kong to osaka, Tokyo to LAX. Nope! never again. My flight to Hong Kong: the seat won't recline! Gosh I had to seat upright for 14h 50 mins! The low sodium meal I got taste nasty and still freaking salty. The chicken breast taste like rubber l. I asked the cabin crew a bottle water, they gave it to me the first time. When I asked for another bottle water, one of the flight attendant said "I can't give it to you because I have to save it for other customer" really?! Am I not your customer? She gave me a water in a cup instead but I spill it due to the turbulence. So I went back and insisted for a bottle water. My second flight was from Tokyo to Hong Kong to LAX, the flight stop over at Hong Kong and that meal was good. It was curry chicken and soba noodle, bread and ice cream. The problem was the meal was so tiny, the white rice only fill 1/3 of the box and there was wasabi on the soba noodle. Who the hack put wasabi on soba noodle? The connecting flight from Hong Kong to LAX was horrible. There was gum on the seat belt and the flight was delayed for 1 hr. How did cathay pacific get 5 star rating? read more

The spaces between the seats on this airline are a bit tighter when you compare it to Singapore Airlines. Particularly speaking, seats between the front and back were squishy. When you check in on Cathay Pacific's website 48 hours prior to your flight, mark a seat (s) in the front near the emergency exits or in the back with two seats. If you want to be able to get the best seats, please be sure to check in early to confirm the seats you want. Other than that, I've ridden Cathay Pacific between Hong Kong and San Francisco in Spring 1999 and Winter 2007-2008. The service and provided on-board meals were quite decent. I'll definitely fly to HK via Cathay Pacific if the seats on Singapore Airlines are completely booked. By the way, languages spoken by the staff are English and Cantonese. read more

I had heard such lovely things about Cathay Pacific, that I chose it for our trip to Hong Kong. On the way out the sound in my seat was too soft and there was no way to turn it up to hear adequately. The food was edible, but below average and the flight attendants while very pleasant kept telling passengers that there would be 15 minutes delay for hot tea or their.desired entree choice. On the way home, a check in agent knocked over my bag and neither apologized nor helped pick it up. There is no order in boarding, it's a free for all, with huge lines. For trans-Pacific flights Cathay is behind Singapore Airlines for the past 22 years; but far superior of any mainland Chinese or North American airliner. For Greater China travel, Cathay is the best, ahead of any mainland Chinese airlines and of far greater comfort. The last time I took Cathay for a trans-Pacific flight, the stewardesses from the USA were pretty inept compared to Cathay's Hong Kong or China-based steward-staff. The main problem overall is the tilt of the seats in economy class, that is OK for travel less than 5 hours, but not positive for trans-Pacific flights. Last-week, one of my flights to Singapore was the new A350 which the seat was wider and the entertainment superior to the three other different Cathay aircraft I took for that roundtrip. Previously, Cathay's checkin service was noticeably superior, but SingaporeAirlines has caught up to match its air service. read more

Taking flight from SFO to HK. Business Class- seat 19A. Here is the summary, which I believe should be helpful to management and the travelers: 1. Buy some air fresheners - this will help defuse old carpet smell. 2. Get carpets dry cleaned. Please do it. 3. The hot towel- it smelled like old cloth boiled with some old water. No I am not exaggerating. Please buy new hand towels and a perfume to add to the towel. A lemon one would be great. This will really up your game. It should be fresh and not just to have it. It is not a checklist item, it is really that one thing touches your passengers, when they get in and run their hands - I didn't do it though. 4. Get your tv monitors replaced - yes please, if you order for your old fleet, it would be less then $30 per piece that too HD and 4K. This itself will help give a good feeling of entertainment. 5. We booked American Airline, which has a code share flight with Cathay Pacific from San Francisco (SFO) to Hong Kong (HKG) where we will be joined with some overseas family member to search for our roots in China. Booked Premium Economy class via American Express. Couple days prior to departure, we were informed that our flight was cancelled and was combined with another CX flight the same evening but 2 hours earlier. We were ensure to be given same seats as reserved initially, were reissued new e tickets. 24 hours before departure, we tried to do e check-in and found that we could not, instead was asked to call CX. No phone number was provided. Called reservation phone number but cannot get to a live person. Went to SFO 3 hours 30 minutes early, tried to check in using the booth. We could not check in and were directed to check in desk. We were told we cannot check in because the tickets were employee tickets and we were not Cathay Pacific employees. We bought and paid our tickets via American Express Travel, so we called Amex Travel. We were told to contact American Airline, which by then has closed their counters and no body to picked up the phone. Amex travel talk to CX ticket counters but without success to get us on the plane. We have been talking to various parties back n forth but cannot get it resolved. We asked and Amex travel asked to see if they can give an exemption to let us fly on Premium Economy as its not our fault when CX combined the flight and reissued wrong ticket as employee fare. Meanwhile we notice we saw people on stand by lining up for available seats. We were told to buy new tickets at counter to get on the flight, but no available tickets for any premium economy (which meant our original premium class seats were sold again or given to the stand bys) only economy class seats are available. We had no choice but to pay for two economy class tickets, after talking to ticket counter as well as Amex travel without any results for two n half hours, and CX was closing their counter 60 minutes before the departure of the flight. I was so very stressed, upset and disappointed, because we have a long flight and seating in economy (middle seats) and paid a much higher fare. At that time we dont even know if we can get a refund on the original tickets and if we have valid return tickets to come back. When We broaded the plane at last minutes, yes premium economy was full and our seats were seated by the people who line up as stand bys. It seemed like those are CX employees as we saw them talking frequently to the ticket counter staff. I was so stress and upset that I passed out while walked down the aisle to those economy seats. I am totally upset with how the SFO ground ticket counter had handled the whole thing. They said it had happened before couple of night ago and they cannot give an exemption or comp us on the flight. Once we arrived HK, we called CX and they told us that the return tickets are not valid and we bought another set of tickets. Premium economy seats were sold out. When we returned to USA we contact Amex travel to help us with refund. Each tickets refunds were reduced by USD 120+. Now, I really lost confidence on all these airlines, American Airline and its code sharing partners, especially Cathay Pacific. They are crooks basically and tried to rip off honest and innocent passengers, gave better seats to their friends who are on standby. read more

I've been flying cathay pacific whenever I can back and forth US and HK. Their service is perfect. Much better than most other airlines, including UA (easy win on this one, I know). What I like the best is their customers service team because they really tried to help you. They gave me better seats whenever they could, they helped accommodate my baby. Also, they don't try to cramp as many people as they can just to squeeze most profit of one flight, they do care about passengers comfort, that said they offer more spacious leg room for the already brutal international flight which make huge difference! I will choose Cathay pacific even if I have to pay a hundred dollars more. It's just totally worth it. Love them! read more

Just had a very bad customer experience with Cathay Pacific. I booked a round trip ticket with Cathay from SFO to HK. I misread the departure time 12:25am as a noon time. I found this out around 1am. Obviously I had already missed the flight. Called the agency justfly.com immediately. Was told the penalty for change is $600 + ticket price difference, over my original ticket price. Not advisable. Refund is also not advisable, as there is a $150 fee and the departure part counts as the majority part of the ticket price, I'd get almost no refund. Was told I cannot keep the returning portion of the ticket either, which is 6 months away in the future. The airline has tagged me as no show, and the whole journey is forfeited. Justfly.com says the airline has tagged me as no show and they have no way to change it. Ask me to call Cathay directly to see if I can get an exemption. Called Cathay, answered by an agent named as Elin Guo. She told me the ticket was sold by the agent with a policy that it must be used in order. If any part is missed, the rest of journey is forfeited. Well, this is a new experience for me. But I'm not intentionally missing the flight, and I called the agency and airline almost immediately after to let them know the situation. Elin insisted me to talk back to agency to find a solution. I said, can I talk to your manager? Now the weirdest thing happened. After 5 minutes hold, Elin told me her manager is in a meeting and cannot talk to me. OK, I said, can I talk with any manager on duty? After another 10 minutes hold, Elin told me, no manager is available to talk to me. I'm certainly shocked. Yes, I understand the first line operator may not have authority to solve some problems. But at least customer can escalate and see if someone above can help. Right? It's the first time I was told there is no manager on duty in the customer service. What kind of company is this? I verified several time with Elin and she said this is the situation now. I can talk to customer relation to file a compliant. Sure this I'm going to do. So here it is for this review and 1 star rating. read more

I've flown on Cathay Pacific twice already. Both trips from SFO to Taiwan then to the Philippines. Nothing to complain about the service and travel experience. BUT..... This is a 2 part review. A) Cathay Pacific city check in counter at Kowloon Station in Hong Kong. On Tuesday evening around 9 PM (5-29-2019, 00:45 AM flight CX872 from HKG to SFO), At the counter, the ground staff told me to move my luggage sideways, which I had placed on the scale standing up. Not politely requesting at all, she simply told me to. I won't mind if she is unable, hurt or a senior citizen..., but she looked fine. Bluntly rude. B) this review is for the boarding arrangements at HKG airport. SFO had 5 lines: families with kids & passengers with special needs, 1st, business, premium economy and economy class. HKG - Gate 43, had 3 lines only. 1) passengers with special needs and families with kids, 2) 1st and business and 3) premium economy with economy. With just 32 seats in premium economy, they made us wait in line that is so long... Good customer service is what is lacking. read more

Absolutely horrible in every believable way except for in flight service. The Cathay agents at SFO airports are now sub-contractors. They have no rights to do anything. Their call-centers across the globe have equally ineffective people who have no rights to help even when a traveler is stranded. Here's the story of my elderly parents who traveled by Cathay on August 18th. They were to connect to another flight in Hong Kong. Their afternoon flight to Hong Kong from SFO was delayed and they missed their connection. If you check the Google data on flight arrivals and departures of Cathay, you'll see that Hong Kong flights from SFO are routinely delayed. In any case, instead of offering them a hotel and next direct flight to their destination Cathay just put them on a flight that added one more connection + a leg of 10 hours to their journey --i.e. 32 hours of travel time instead of 22. Looks like Cathay has become one of those greedy cost-cutter airlines which is bound to make you suffer to save themselves $$. Btw, at SFO itself, I confirmed with the agent whether the flight will make it on time and she assured me that they will make the connection--offering them boarding passes for the next flight. I also told her to put them in a hotel in case they missed the next flight and she said that, this part can be decided only by Cathay agents in Hong Kong. They were premiere economy travelers so we hope that things would be handled a little better. Last year, my folks had traveled via business class --at this time Cathay had called them ahead and postponed their flight by a day in SFO itself due to anticipated delays and a possibility that they may not make the connection. In Hong Kong, although wheelchairs were offered, and food coupons given no lounge passes were offered despite the delay in the next connection--again more cost cutting was in effect. Which airline saves on business lounge passes for elderly who have been forced to be in transit for over 3 hours. More disgusting was that the wheelchair staff at Hong Kong just stranded my folks near the expected gates on airport for 4 hours and did not show up or wheel them to nearby restaurants. The Hong Kong airport is huge and no one there can speak even basic English. My folks had no clue where to go with their limited mobility. To add to the misery, when my folks reached the final destination, they realized that their laptop was stolen from a bag that was plastic wrapped and had TSA lock. The laptop was a gift so they had put it with the box in the checked luggage and had paid $ 11 per bag to get the protective wrapping at airport. Again, Cathay agent was told that there is laptop in the checked bag and she reassured us that it'd be okay. It's quite possible that the Cathay staff does not understand English at all and they say is "it'd be okay" for everything without really meaning it. I empathize with folks who cannot speak/understand English but an airline cannot be so cheap as to put them in the front desk for customer service in a country where most people speak English. I have left several messages for Cathay Pacific but there have been no responses--obviously they don't care. I called their lost and found after calling SFO airport's lost and found--no response. I added my concern to their website --no contact. Cathay used to be a decent airline, but now it's time to find better alternatives. Next time I book a long haul flight, I am going to ensure that they take care of travelers in case connections are missed. I don't want to make international calls to find out that the "airport" has taken control of my elderly folks and the airline cannot do anything about it. I pay the airline to care for my folks--not the airport. The only good thing that happened in all of this was that the in-flight food service was decent and took care of my folks once they boarded the flight. Hence 2 stars. read more

October 2011 - I was extremely frustrated with United and tweeted about it. I get a DM from Cathay asking me to join their Marco Polo Club. I figured, "why not" and then I got an email asking me to email them my YTD summary with UA and my future travel plans. Fast Forward to August 2012. I am sitting here in Hong Kong in the CX First Class lounge waiting to board my flight back to SF. After being a 1K with UA for the last 7 years, I have so far flown 100,000 miles with CX YTD and I have flown just 6,000 miles with UA. I guess I'm not going to requalify with UA this year. Whenever you fly 14 hours in economy, you want to fly the best possible option. It's tough on all airlines, but CX makes it bearable. From the food to the customer service, it is far superior to the american based airlines. read more

If everything goes perfectly they are mediocre at best, but if anything goes wrong don't expect them to put one ounce of effort in to rectifying the situation. Do not expect them to try to get you to your destination on time. Do not expect to be able to talk to anyone who has any power to help you. There are only 3 options that I know of for direct flights from SFO to HKG - Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airline and United. Cathay Pacific is probably my second choice after Singapore Airline. Both Cathay and Singapore offer individual entertainment systems, a great selection of movies, games and music for the long flight and allows you to start/stop the movie of your choice at any time. Other random observations: 1) the food is meh, pretty standard for airline food 2) the seats slide forward instead of recline, not very comfortable for a 14 hour flight in coach 3) the SFO-HKG flights are usually packed with more than half of the people connecting to India via HK 4) The boarding process is a bit chaotic. Instead of calling and boarding by sections like most other airlines, it's a free for all line and everyone herds in like cattle. On the return flight, I requested for something to eat midway and the flight attendant basically said no since they will have meal service shortly. They didn't start for like 30+ minutes and it took another 30+ minutes for them to get to me in the back of the plane so I had to wait over an hour before getting any food. Why so damn stingy?! A cup of noodle cost like $0.50. They got me from point A to point B in the most time efficient way via direct and they had the cheapest price at the time. So overall a 3 stars rating for their entertainment system and due to the lack of other carriers with direct flights from SFO to HKG. If it weren't for that then probably 2 stars. Sort of a default 2nd favorite choice just cuz there's not too many other options. read more

Cathay always has great service on flight. many options of movies and all the meals, snacks, and drinks. I been flight with them for most of my life. However, today i had the worse experience which is not their service, just its flu season in hong kong. i just land with cx870 from hkg to sfo . omg. They are so many sick people on this flight, many people were coughing and sneezging......I am sooooooooooooo afraid to catch something from my 12hr flight, as there is nowhere i have go ..... Trapped in here... I would like to see in the future, that they shd have check everyone temperature like when viaitors landed in hl airport with the camera, make sure there is no disease such SAS or flu contagious ro the others....... I am so afriad to be in this flight, so uncomfortable. CX and all the other airlines shd provides masks for ppl who are sick and not covering themselves, and protect other health clients who doesnt want to catch illness. i know that its impossible to relocated those sick people into once zone, so others can sit as far away from them as possible, but at lease provide masks to people didnt bring any and want to protect themselves fr others. Flew a non-stop, economy round trip flight between Chicago and Hong Kong in November/December 2014. Overall, both flights were pleasant experiences for being in the air for 15 straight hours. + The flight attendants were professional and courteous. They are constantly walking up and down the aisles with water cups on trays or asking if you need a beverage. + Alcohol was included and unlimited! + The lavatories were sprayed down at least 3x during each flight; possibly even more times while I was sleeping. + We got 2 Chinese meals each way (and you got to choose between 2 options each meal). Came with hot beverage, dinner roll, butter, fruit or salad, main entree (with pasta/noodles or rice), and dessert. They tasted like microwave meals but were edible and satisfying. You can order instant cup-of-noodles for snacking (also included). They also passed out peanuts. Take that, United! + You get a pillow and a blanket. + In-flight entertainment was the best. TVs are touchscreens, and there were ample TV shows & movies (in multiple languages) and games to keep you busy. I think I watched 3 movies each way. + The back-of-chairs layout was also primo. I loved that there was a separate shallow compartment right below the screen for small things like your cellphone, charger (everyone has their own USB port), pens, earbuds, whatever. I always hate reaching my hand in the elastic back pocket, fearing the person in front of me thinks I'm feeling them up. Also, the main dining tray has the ability to fold in half lengthwise, giving you more lap room for the long femured humanoids. - Largest drawback for me was the no wifi option, but I am a social media addict. - The seats don't "recline"; they merely swivel down. I couldn't really tell the difference. But this can also be seen as a "pro" because the person's seat in front of you doesn't get that close to you like in other planes. - Had a minor issue with a 20-minute delayed take-off from ORD, but otherwise we were fairly on schedule. Would fly this airline again in a heartbeat! FYI - your luggage is limited by the number of pieces (usually 1 carry-on, 2 check-in) and weight (15 lbs for economy/carry-on, 50 lbs for economy/check-in). read more

Terrible ground crew and passenger waiting area in Manila. No restrooms in the waiting area. Have to climb long flight of stairs with your carryon luggage. Crew unresponsive to complaint. There were at least 5-6 ground crew milling around doing nothing. Same thing with flight crew. Quite a few of them milling around but did not provide much service to passengers. I started wondering if the lack of attention was because of the passengers who I believed happen to be domestic workers travelling to HK. Why would CP treat them differently or look down on these passengers. Didn't these passengers pay their fare like everyone else? Where did all this reputation of excellent customer service come from? Amazingly, my connecting flight on American Airlines from HK to Dallas was a contrast to the awful Cathay flight I experienced. The attentiveness of the AA flight crew made the 12 hour flight very comfortable and pleasant. read more

I took Cathay Pacific between September and October 2016 between San Francisco/ Hong Kong and between Hong Kong / Pudong Shanghai. My overall experience with Cathay Pacific was great. From the San Francisco check-in counter, the agent was very friendly, helpful and sincere. Even though I was only riding Economy class, from SF to HK, HK to SH and SH to HK, the flights were clean, restrooms were clean, good food (compare to a lot of different airlines) (they have good Chinese Tea and Haagen- Daz : D) Flight attendants were friendly and helpful. Seats are little tight but okay cuz this is economy class. On my way back, the check-in counter at HKG, I truly appreciated the help and service. I sprained my knee on the bus quite bad in Hong Kong two days before the end my trip. (Still limping until now, more than 3 wks) I was waiting in line to check-in my luggage, the staff saw my situation, she sent me to the disable and babies line, offered me wheel-chair but I ended up did not use it because I could walk turtle slow with the pain I can tolerate. However, I took the offer for a wheel-chair at SFO for backup because I did not know how my knee is doing after sitting 13 hours on a flight. They also helped me to carry my heavy luggage to the weight. In such a bad situation, I really want to give them a hundred Thanks!! Okay! Here is where the MINUS ONE STAR. I had my seat right after the Long Foot/ Exit row, aisle seat. During the turbulence, the seat belt light was on, the person in front of me put his chair "ALL THE WAY" down, the back of the chair was on top of my injured knee. My knee was with very limited movement. Therefore, I couldn't do much with it. Also, he was with his headset. I asked the flight attendant to help me ask the person if he can move his chair up for maybe one inch but she ignored me. ( Well! I believe I have the right to ask and he is reserved the right to refuse ) After about 10 mins later, my knee and hip started feeling pain and sore that I couldn't tolerate anymore. I stood up and got out from my chair. ( Okay! I knew I wasn't supposed to do so for my safety !! I am not that stupid!! ) The same flight attendant asked me to go back to my seat. I explained to her my situation. She asked me the second time to go back to my seat. Okay!! I was getting frustrated at that moment, told her I wasn't faking it. I had requested for wheelchair!! She ignored me again, let me stand there with the turbulence. I couldn't stand for too long either because my hip couldn't tolerate. I got back to my seat and let the chair back sitting on my knee again. I was injured but not fully disable which was such an embarrass situation. Around another 20-30 mins later, my R knee, thigh and hip started to sore, sharp pain and numbness. I couldn't get out from the seat by myself, didn't know what to do, pain to tears. I called another flight attendant for the same request again. She explained to me that they couldn't bother the customer in the front but she can check if there was another seat available. ( I've already known that there was no available seat to move because I checked with the check-in counter before. ) However, I thought this flight attendant did the right thing than the first one. (POSITIVE ATTITUDE) I wouldn't blame if the staff had tried the best. Okay, she came back with another male flight attendant. They apologized for the situation, helped me to lift up the handrest the aisle side and helped me to move my knee to the aisle. ( By the time, the person in front probably "SENSED" what was going on and move up his chair back a little. ) The male flight attendant often came by and checked if I was comfortable. Therefore, I still want to give them 4 stars (ORIGINALLY FIVE) I told a lot of my friends about the experience. Some of the frequent flyers friends were questioning if the person in front of me a Marco Polo Club member? (PINEAPPLE CLUB MEMBER ? !) (Cuz his seat next to him was empty but occupied !) They can use their mileage to block without buying the seat. I wonder if they don't want to bother asking because of the passenger in the front is a Marco Polo member? I understand that every airline has their VIPs treat differently than other passengers. A passenger who can only afford to fly one or twice a year with economy class, not their business target like me, might not deserve to ask a Marco Polo club member a request? (Again, he is reserved the right to refuse ) As I read the newspaper the past week, Diamond PINEAPPLE CLUB MEMBER can ask Cathay Pacific to find a kitchen to cook the raw crabs to cooked because they couldn't go through the Custom with raw seafood. So my friends and I decide to go to Asia - one guy is only taking part of the trip and can do this deal with China Airlines, but the rest of us - well doesn't work as well. One of my girlfriends and I decide to take Cathay Pacific, well because they had the cheapest flight on the day we wanted to fly out to Singapore. It's a super long flight from SFO to Singapore - like a whole two days. Food was pretty good on the plane - I wouldn't say it's the BEST airline food well because airline food is never really good, but it really wasn't the worst. Entertainment wise, it was pretty easy to select your movie and start watching it. I watched 4 movies (The Tourist, Burlesque, Tangled, and No Strings Attached) and a couple episodes of Hawaii 5-0 on my flight to HK, which was our layover stop. Hong Kong to Singapore was not as great, but it was pretty good. Smaller plane and the flight attendants were just not as attentive, but we were pretty much passed out so it's okay! I've been flying them for more than 10 years now, and most frequently during my college years when I flew home twice a year to visit my family. Twice have they generously bumped me up to BUSINESS CLASS, where I could enjoy a trans-pacific flight in luxury - I probably landed on their radar somehow as there was a trip back home where I flew Cathay Pacific 6 times in 3 weeks. Business class is awesome. Almost fully recline-able seat, table cloth after table cloth after table cloth to serve your multi-course meal, personal salt and pepper shakers (none of the paper packet business), clean bathrooms, and they address you by name! I get way too excited and I can't sleep for the 11+ hour flight because of all the fabulous amenities. Economy class, which is really what I can afford, is nice with great service. They periodically walk down the aisle with water or juice during a red eye flight, even though all the lights are dimmed for sleeping comfort. Their menu includes a midnight snack. They have personal tv screens for all-night movie watching. I'm a loyal CX fan, and I've flown UA and North West (both suck). The only downfall with CX is that they are slightly more expensive and hard to book during peak seasons with waiting lists that never seem to budge, and Economy class is almost always crowded. So, I hope they keep my free upgrades a comin'! read more

I usually fly CX to Asia and the timing and connection seems to work out better for my trips home. The ground crew are usually very helpful and friendly and flights are on time. Business class cabin is definitely wonderful where they will pamper you and provide snacks and drinks throughout the flight. The business class lounge are also a class of its own in Hong Kong, love the architecture, the setup and all the yummy food and snacks! Definitely one of the better airlines but yup, there is a price tag for it esp during peak season. read more

This review is for cathay pacific airlines that i flew from SFO to MUM. I traveled with my family from San Francisco CA to Mumbai, India on Dec 10 2018. When i arrived in Mumbai, one of my checked in bags was missing. The support staff in Mumbai created a ticket and i was told that i will hear back from them the next day. Little did i know, this was the beginning of a harrowing experience. The bag that was delayed had all of my clothes including undergarments, pants, jeans, shirts, t-shirts, socks. I was to travel to Bangalore for work for a few days and hence packed some work clothes as well. After waiting for almost an entire day to receive a call (as promised), I made the call to get some information. By this time, the airlines have had a complete day to track my baggage. On this call, I was told: - My bag was not yet located - Cathay Pacific was not liable for my loss as I received all my bags except one. - I was not to get any compensation because I hold an Indian passport and was flying into my home country. The above was the most ridiculous statements I have heard. I have been in the US since 2002. I am a resident of California and was visiting India for some work and to meet with my family. I was wearing the same set of clothes from Dec 10 until Dec 13. Imagine wearing the same set of clothes including undergarments for 3 days!!! I had to go buy basic clothes so that i could change into something fresh. Next day, I heard from Cathay Pacific that my bag was probably not transferred at Hong Kong International airport. Being a major airline, the office in Mumbai was not able to find out for almost 48 hours as to what happened to my bag. I decided to take up the search myself. I called the baggage department in San Francisco International Airport at 10.30pm IST on Dec 13 2018. I spoke to a gentleman named Calvin. Within 2 minutes, he was able to find out that my bag did not leave San Francisco. He took a few hours (providing me updates every hour when i called him in the meantime) and finally was able to locate my bag. The bag did not have a tag. Who is responsible for this? I (passenger) checked in the bag at the airport, a tag was put on the bag but ended up being tagless (probably) when it passed through the belts. Cathay Pacific is responsible for this. Today (Dec 14), when i spoke to the incapable staff in Mumbai airport, I was told that I will get a compensation of Rs. 3000 i.e US$42 (approx). I have spend approx Rs 16739.88 (US$240) to purchase a minimum set of clothes that will get me past 3-4 days. I have the receipts and can produce them when required. At the time of purchase, no one at Cathay Pacific had any idea when or if at all my baggage would be found. I have had to buy clothes that i can wear when i go to meet someone and not something that i can just use at home. Why should I have to spend money for a mistake that was committed by the Cathay Pacific? What does Rs 3000 get you in Mumbai? I mentioned this to Calvin in San Francisco and he laughed at this pittance and told me to let the Mumbai team know that he earns pocket money of more than 40$ per day. I need to be compensated at least the amount of US$240 for the expenses that I incurred. I have read all the fare rules including the Warsaw commission and Montreal commission and nowhere it is mentioned that i can be compensated only Rs. 3000. The mental stress that I have gone through with one of the worst airlines in the industry - Cathay Pacific cannot be compensated especially given that fact that I had to take it upon myself to track down my bag and the staff at Mumbai could not provide an update even after 48 hrs from when the baggage was reported lost. With reluctance, I was given pittance of Rs. 3000 along with the bag when it was delivered. I had mentioned to Miss Ankitha (baggage team manager) and Gouresh (Bagge team service assistant) that I did not want her charity. I am not a beggar and I demand to be compensated the amount i have spent to purchase clothes due a mistake by the airlines. I cannot believe I spent about $5400 to fly with Cathay Pacific. They will certainly not earn the business of me and my family again. read more

Cathay Pacific is the best airline I have ever been on. Cathay Pacific has nice seats on the new kinds of airplanes. Friendly service.Awesome food.Roomy lavatories.Comfortable seats. Larger tray tables.Bigger LCD monitors. 100 movies,350 TV shows,888 music CDs,and 22 Radio channels in 9 languages. They give you headphones you can use for the TV.(the headphones are free) Adjustable headrest. You have to ride this airline.It is very awesome. I would recomend this airline to anybody. There just isn't pleasing some people. If you guys want to experience a terrible airline.. fly American Airlines please! If you want a terrible international flight.. oh believe me there can be much worse from SFO to Asia! Decent food, great in-flight entertainment, and unlimited booze. Can you really complain? The Marco Polo Club is GREAT too. Because I have been frequently flying to and from HKG, I signed up for it 15 months ago it pretty much let's you cut an entire line of people and board at the same time as coach/first class even if you're sitting in a coach seat. What does that mean? Pretty much PLENTY of overhead bin space, which on some international flights I have run into problems with (flew Air Canada once from Toronto to Hong Kong, they had to stow my overhead bag faaaar away). Somebody mentioned that they no longer have 24-hour phone support - well if you have Marco Polo they do. If you're dropping already almost $1,000 on a round trip flight - it's totally worth it to pay $50 for Marco Polo! You get your priority boarding, online check-in, and 24 hour phone support you crave! I finally got the Silver Tier Marco Polo after flying a few SFO-HKG flights... and let me tell you the lounge was totally worth it. Cathay Pacific is one of the bombest airlines I ever flew. This is the 2nd time I have flew with Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong. I have tried Eva, China air, and Air china. Cathay Pacific and Eva air are both really good in terms of their customer service. They really try to accommodate all the passengers and they try to make sure you get the right food. Cathay Pacific will even ask you to make sure that you are having vegetarian before they serve it to you. They also have a menu incase you need to see it. I took the economy class, (so as you know you get what you pay for). The seats are a bit slimmer but they recline, the pillow bents so you can tilt your head to the left or to the right. The good thing is you have your own TV and there are a variety of movies, in Chinese and English to entertain you while you fly. I am 5'5, so the seats don't bother me as much as if you were a 5'8 or a 5'9 man, forcing myself to fit into this seat. If you are a big man then, you should go with economy plus or business. Especially, if you are flying for 14 hours or more. I belive the food is better also. The flight attendants during my flight were also super nice and friendly. I had a really good experience when I was there. I will be flying Cathay Pacific again. read more

Flew SFO - HKG - DEP (Bali). The Hong Kong leg was on their new business class seats. The seats are nothing short of AMAZING (looks like several carriers are adopting them). The seats were comfortable, private, and roomy. It made a 14 hour flight easy. I had flown JAL business class, with mediocre seats, to Japan and was blown away by the level of service and attention to detail. I expected the same or better from Cathay, but their service wasn't as good as people made it out to be. Not to say it's bad, just nothing beyond acceptable. HKG - DEP was very much like 80s domestic "first class". Old plan, old seats. It was fine and the food was better than expected, but if I had my choice I would have never chosen it. The seat made the trip and the lounge in HKG was fantastic (I could have stay all day in the showers after that flight). I'm not sold though. I'm going to try other carriers in the future and compare. Though I will be flying first class HKG - SFO in a couple months. Which is, despite the outdated seats, suppose to be one of the best first class experiences you can have. read more

This rating is for the pricing not for the service. Get rid of Cathay Pacific if you have a baby! It's ridiculously expensive, 25% of adult ticket. Never seen such an infant unfriendly airline! I redeemed two premium economy class tickets and they told me I have to purchase an infant ticket based on full price, that's $700 for a baby without a seat!! Stay away from Cathay Pacific! update: I kept calling to check the price for baby seat, in the end I got a good price around $200+. I recently traveled in Cathay pacific airways from Los Angeles to Singapore with a break in Hong Kong with my husband and a 3 year old kid. i will say one of the most disappointed flight i have experienced. here is pinpointed remarks 1. when we book the tickets we already choose the food two Hindu meal with a kid meal. but when we boarded the flight they just denied our request and the food options are horrific, we didn't have any meal and whole journey till Singapore almost starving with juice and some crackers. moreover they have not even considered for the kid too. the response of the flight attendant also pathetic they just said they have nothing to offer, not even apologetic for anything. 2. while returning from Singapore to los angeles we again choose our Hindu meal specially with a kid meal, even when we got the boarding passes also we confirmed with them about the meal but surprisingly when we boarded the flight they said from singapour to hongkong they dont have any request received as such, and from hongkong to los angeles they offer us two hindu meal but there is no kid meal as they give the same excuse about no request as such. they are so bad that they didnt even offer any other meal for the kid as he was taking a nap so they didn't ask or never came back. horrific experience of food ever i had in my life i can say 3. they didn't have anything to offer for kid like to make them busy with color or any toy, they didn't offer anything for whole lot of around 28 hours of flight. almost in every flight they offer something minimal at least for kids 4. the seating arrangement is not so comfortable or specious either and they didnt consider to make a family give same row seating. 5. there is lot of turbulence and whole the time the seat belt sign was almost on although the weather was not that bad. If you are travelling in economy and with Cathay Pacific , think twice before you book your tickets. overall i am never going to fly with this airways because of their behavior and horrible miscommunication from booking to boarding to landing. read more

We, a family of 4, traveled on Cathay Pacific Airlines in Economy class from San Francisco to and from Kolkata, India, this year. My mom, who came with us, went back alone last weekend with wheelchair assistance. We are quite happy with our experience. Cathay Pacific was the cheapest when we shopped for our travel and also had the shorted layover. The customer service of the airlines is excellent. The air hosts/hostesses are very caring and pleasant. They serve enough food and has enough snacks so that passengers won't go hungry. My mother was quite worried about going alone because she does not speak good English and hasn't traveled alone much, but she didn't have any problems at all during her trip from San Francisco to Kolkata. Will travel in Cathay again. read more

Flew business class from Singapore to Hong Kong to SFO. Pros: + The stewardesses were accommodating during a full flight. + Seat converts to flat bed, depending on the plane. Cons: - A big F*ck You to the selfish/rude Indian family in the center isle. Your bad parenting and foul kids disturbed/woke up many passengers in a 10 hr flight. We did not pay a premium to see and hear your bullshit. Karma. - Biz class seats were more pricey than other airlines. - Plane food was bland. - Their transfer and boarding experience in Hong Kong was chaos and frustrating. read more

We flew SFO-HKG-SUB on Cathay Pacific last November. I give 3 stars for the SFO-HKG portion, while I give 5 stars for the HKG-SUB portion. Why the difference? The seat doesn't "recline"! It makes it very uncomfortable on the long flight from SFO-HKG and vice versa. Other than the seats, the service was what you would expect on a Cathay flight. The entertainment was excellent. The flight attendants were excellent. The food was adequate. I still consider myself a fan of Cathay Pacific. That's why I decided to give them 4 stars. However, I sincerely hope that they consider changing their seating on long haul flights. read more

This review is for its HK ground staff and customer service in SF. Parents with babies, BEWARE! DO NOT TRAVEL WITH THIS AIRLINE. THEY ARE NOT BABY FRIENDLY AT ALL. Here is the deal: 1) The treatment of your HK ground staff was really rude. I never got that type of treatment with your rival SQ. One of them asked to wake my baby up when she was in the car seat at midnight while she was sleeping. When I said "no" she said "whatever" turned around and walked away. SO RUDE! Even the engineer who tested the car seat, didn't require the baby to be woken up. 2) I know for the fact, they damaged the front wheels of the stroller, and it caused the stroller not easily to be maneuvered around. 3) The food tray was severely damaged. Thank God I caught that, otherwise if my baby ran her tiny hands and fingers, they would get wounded. Definitely, I would sue CX if that happened. 4) It took so many back and part on my part just to get the status of my complaint. I had to get my travel agent contacting her CX sales to finally got a response. 5) After 5 months of waiting of a productive response, they are trying to nickel and dime me on the reimbursement, stating depreciation.
