Cathey's staff are all extremely knowledgeable and personable people, experts on vacuums and sewing machines alike who are willing to answer your questions, get you additional information, walk you through your options, and generally get you the help you need. We purchased our vacuum there, and go there for parts and vacuum bags. No regrets. We've also had three different sewing machines serviced there, and they've always come back just like new (not the easiest feat with at least one of those machines!) In short, thank goodness for Cathey's Sewing and Vac -- service done like it ought to be, in my opinion. We use their Speedway location, but I can't imagine their other(s) are anything other than superb! We will be back again and again, rest assured. read more

I'll try to make this simple. I brought a broken, 4-year old Shark vacuum to Cathey's several weeks ago. I called a couple of times to see if it was ready for pickup. They said "yes", the vacuum was back. What they didn't bother to tell me was that the vacuum was not fixed. Never mind that I drove 40 miles that day to pick up a fixed vacuum cleaner. They said that the vacuum couldn't be fixed because parts were no longer available. (This Shark was the best vacuum we've ever had, it picks up all the pet hair and all that nasty stuff.) Interesting to note that they sure were quick to try to sell me one of their upscale, German vacuums for $400. I've bought expensive vacuums before: they don't work as well and they are also expensive to maintain. After spending $20 on Amazon for the parts needed -- a new hose, roller brush and new belts -- and an hour of time, the vacuum works just fine. What a disappointment. Buyer beware. read more

The staff here have always been extremely helpful and efficient. I started taking in an ancient Kirby vacuum cleaner, and wound up buying one of their full-size electric vacuum cleaners. The new one had troubles now and again, and they continually worked with me to get it working properly. I'm extremely happy with the customer service. read more

My vacuum cleaner died, and I took it too Cathey's for my first visit. They were busy but told me to bring it in. They fixed it right at the counter, charged me a very reasonable price, and I was out in 15 minutes. They are the best. read more

I brought in my, less than a year old, vacuum due to loss of full suction. I was quoted $79 plus parts for a cleaning and a 5 days turn around time. Yikes! I could almost buy a new one at that price. Hoses were fine just needed a cleaning. I went home, You Tubed it and fixed my vacuum, easily! New filter cost $8. Seems way overpriced for a simple cleaning. read more

Came in to buy an adapter (Miele hose to Kenmore attachments). Had called ahead and had them put it on hold (last one). Walked in with attachment, and immediately the male sales clerk, with attitude, said "oh that's a Kenmore, that won't fit" as he proceeded to put the adapter on, and lo and behold, it fit. Then I asked to check the other end to a Miele vac, and he kept insisting that "it's a Miele part, it's going to fit". He didn't want to walk the 10 feet to the vacs to make a sale. The whole time there (less than 5 minutes), he was a truly arrogant, condescending jerk. I walked out of there without buying the part. I'd rather go through the hassle of ordering the part on Amazon and paying less, than giving my business to a company that allows that type of customer service. read more

My family has been in Tucson for 160 years. My grandmother was a professional and avid seamstress. She filled in at Steinfelds and Cele Petersons when they had complicated alterations. She passed her talent to her daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter. My mother purchased a restored Eureka vacuum in the 1960s and our family used only Cathey's for 4 generations. I went to Cathey's on Oracle, first time to this location, to look into getting a new machine. A gentleman entered just before me, but he was there to shop for threads, so I went to the counter and waited for two women to complete a transaction. The man who was shopping for threads found what he needed as I stood in line and lined up behind me. When the women completed their payment, I was next in line. But the cashier looked right over me and told the man behind me that he was next. He pointed to me and told her I had been standing in line longer than he was because he was gathering items. The cashier sneered at me and again blurted that he was next. I motioned for him to go ahead of me and he seemed confused, as was I, but thanked me. I walked out the door and left, and I promised myself I will never return. I was astounded a at the lack of professionalism of this cashier. People do not necessarily line up at the register according to when they entered the door. Some people are shopping for items and researching the products. Her attitude was unconscionable and she lost a 60-year patron. read more

No one better than these folks for vacs AND sewing machines! I reroofed and had to disconnect & remove the central vac that Cathey's put in 20 years ago. Luis (central vac mgr) came out to take a look at it, said it was ready to reconnect & he wd add a coating to protect it from uv rays. He came today & reconnected everything, tested every outlet & it is perfect, just like new. Luis is professional, on time, does what he says he'll do - when he says he'll do it & does a complete & thorough job. He is also friendly, personable, fast and a wonderful representative of a superb company. Very pleased (as always!). read more

I had purchased a used carpet-cleaning unit off of Craigslist and it wasn't dispensing water. I took it in to Cathey's, and they were so nice! The lady helped me carry the machine to the counter, and the gentleman disassembled the handle which had not been put on correctly. He quickly got the unit working, reassembled it, and told me there was no charge. They were so kind, efficient, and helpful! I love this shop. Customer service is top notch - they are so incredibly helpful and accommodating. I bought my Miele from them about 16 years ago and it's still running like a charm, I've only ever needed 2 repairs over the course of my vacuum's life, but every time I have brought it in for repair & servicing (because it wasn't working correctly due to a blockage etc), I have received top notch care. We are no longer in Tucson and contacted them as a last ditch effort to deal with our problem. Their people were courteous and helpful and their efforts led to resolution of the problem. I recently acquired an old sewing machine from my parents. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the bobbin and we took it in and the staff was able to diagnose it instantly. They knew what piece was missing and immediately went to figure out where they could get the missing part. We took it in on a Saturday and they had the part and sewing machine ready by Tuesday! (Closed sundays) I can finally use my sewing machine. I'm so grateful they were able to fix it and it only cost $10! read more

My Hoover vacuum finally bit the dust yesterday, so off it went to Cahtey's to see if it could be fixed ONE MORE TIME. Alas, this breakdown was fatal so after 6 years of hard use, I bid it farewell. After researching and talking to Andrew, I decided to get another Hoover Wind Tunnel (best for getting pet hair up) and he sold it at a very competitive price. It's wonderful to have a friendly store with competent staff when you need anything for your sewing machine or vacuum. They've got a great selection to choose from and while I was munching on my bag of popcorn from the store machine, I had a chance to see a $9000 Brother Sewing Machine. Top of the line, I'm sure. They've got a lot of nifty machines for sewing and cleaning, that's for sure. I've been a customer for years and will continue to be one. Identified the issue with my Dyson immediately and showed me how to improve maintenance of it in the future.

I brought in my Kirby Vacuum because the clutch had fallen out which made it nearly impossible to push. They gave me a bill when I brought the machine in for $135 (which is an estimate), but in the end it came out to $112. I'd hoped that while servicing the machine they could have oiled it and cleaned it, but no such luck. I was rather disappointed. In Colorado the vacuum and sewing machine shop I frequented always did that for me as a courtesy. I may look for another shop, or I may give them another try. I can't decide right now. Hopefully I won't need any more repairs. read more

I have reviewed Cathys on Speedway before and they have always been fabulous to deal with. I have purchased 2 sewing machines and my sewing room furniture there. The owners and staff are truly honest and have great customer service. They are so knowledgeable on products and never push you to buy and are patient. I wish they would sell fashion fabric and other pattern making tools. They had the perfect convertable furniture for my small room. I've wondered every time I drive by, why kind of person repairs a vacuum when they are easy enough to just replace?! How does this business stay... in business??? Well. I learned how. I bought a $300 tile cleaner, and my dog ate the cord before I had even gotten all of my tile clean for the first use... boy. That puppy is sooo lucky he's cute!!! The employees were really friendly and helped make the expensive fix hurt a little less. Also, it was expensive because of the part, I thought the labor was very reasonable! They set a realistic expectation for when my item would be fixed and did a great job with communicating cost before fixing, updating me on progress, etc. dropping off and picking up was fast and easy. I love my Dyson, but after 7 yrs. of hard work, it died. My Husband took it to Cathey's in Green Valley. The Customer Service people were great! Hybrid sew and vac store. I had purchased a kirby and knew NOTHING about them lol. So I called up Cathy's as they had repaired a vacuum for me in the pasr and did a great job. Never stepping in the store or making a purchase, a repair technician gave me the kirby rundown. Parts, cleaning schedule, etc. Update 5/12 Dropped off my Kirby to be serviced, was given an estimated 6 days. 5 calls and 12 days later I told them to keep it and I am buying a new one elsewhere. I don't know if I am supposed to have more than one vacuum for when I service mine but I don't and 12 days is too long to be without a vacuum. Will not be dealing with again. read more
