We were looking for a Juki sewing machine to be used mainly for quilting. A call to Cathey's let us know that they had the model that we were interested in even though it didn't show up on their website. The staff at the Speedway store was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They unboxed the unit and helped get it set up to try it out. They provided some quilting scrap material and batting for a trial run and let us take our time testing the machine out. Once we decided to purchase it, they were very helpful in getting it ready for us to take. Cathey's was like a step back in time when small shops took the time to make sure that you were happy with the service and felt comfortable with your purchase. We got a better deal that we expected and had a great experience at Cathey's. We'll definitely be shopping at Cathey's again. read more

My experience here was a little bizarre from start to finish. I purchased a vintage sewing machine that needed servicing and called Cathey's in January. I was told they would book my ready date (March 12th) and just told me to drop it off "about a week beforehand". That process seemed a little backwards - why not tell the customer when they can bring it in and let them know when it's ready? So I dropped my machine off on March 4th, then got an email and call 2 days later on the 6th that it was ready. I was thrilled it was ready so soon, but it made the appointment process even more bizarre. When we went to pick it up, the man working was nice enough...until he started talking about how nobody wanted old machines and how anyone that did was "weird"...after I had mentioned to him this was my introduction into sewing and my first machine. He then blabbered on and on about how there's no market for old machines, you can find them for free, and the wood is worth more than the machine. All while I handed him my card for a $114 bill. My machine appears to be in working order and I'm glad it was able to be serviced, but I will not be back to Cathey's after being insulted. I know Cathey's is a household name in the craft community in Tucson and I wish their customer service lived up to their reputation. read more

My husband and I bought our very first vacuum together back in 2012 from Cathey's on Speedway (we were dating at the time). It was a big purchase for us to buy a Miele and almost 9 years later, the vacuum was still going strong until a small park broke the on/off button of the vacuum. We took it into Cathey's to take a look and they were able to order the part for us and get it repaired. They also serviced the vacuum for us during that time. The customer service here is always excellent. I couldn't imagine buying a vacuum from a big box store. After twenty some years our central vacuum died with no notice. A call to Andrew at Cathey's confirmed that they service central vac systems since our original installer has been out of business for years. They provide free estimates so I took the cannister in and got back a diagnosis and quote for a new motor in just a few days. Prices after 20 years should not have been a shock. They installed a new motor, cleaned the cannister and we were back in business in less than a week. Definitely recommend them. read more

My experience with Cathey's was very impressive. My first encounter with this company was about a month ago, when I had my sewing machine serviced after not using it for many years. The woman are knowledgeable, friendly and experienced. This last visit was to have various scissors sharpened, all 5 pairs of them. I feel their prices were right on after doing some research. Again, the woman were courteous and friendly. The quality of the work they provide is high quality. Both visits, took as much time as they quoted me. I purchased a new machine a few weeks ago from Annette. She was so patient and took time to explain everything to me. What excellent service. Today I attended a generic machine intro class. Annette taught the class. It was so nice to be in a special classroom with lots of space to social distance. I had a couple of weeks to 'practice' at home so I felt pretty comfortable. My sewing machine wasn't catching the thread right; the bobbin thread was coming through the top, and the top thread was just going straight across, no matter what tension I tried. I brought it in to Cathey's, and they must be magic because... all of a sudden it was working just fine. And they fixed the thread-cutter that had fallen off, for free. And they carried my machine to my car. What service! This place is great. read more

What a wonderful experience! I brought in my (very old) dyson vacuum to get repaired. The employee was helpful and instead of doing the repair, greased my vacuum free of cost so it was at least functional again. Used them for service on our vacuum. Customer service is horrible. They were over a month late on delivering our serviced vacuum. They don't call or update you. Charged over what they quoted. When come in to pick up the vacuum after waiting two months for it guys are in back texting and on computer and poor lady had to interrupt customer in phone to get one of the guys to help me. Basically unprofessional, poor service and over charged! I appreciate the response Matthew since your store fixed my vacuum (it works) but sounds horrible and the new plate that you put on the bottom after you broke the old one while fixing it makes it hard to push on carpet. Recently, I realized the new bag I had placed into my Miele vacuum was inserted incorrectly. I could not figure out why the suction was not working efficiently like it did when I initially purchased it. I checked the attachment several times thinking it must be clogged. Finally, when I could not find anything wrong, I opened the canister, and discovered, much to my dismay, the debris was being suctioned inside the canister and not the bag. I was horrified! I cleaned it out the best I could, but knew it needed to be looked at by a professional. I returned to Cathey's with the vacuum in hand and explained what I had discovered. John truly extended himself by offering to clean out the inside of the canister and thoroughly took the time to instruct me how to properly insert the bag. UPDATE: Matthew has really taken care of us and apologized for our previous situation. After bringing my vacuum home to realize it still wasn't working, I brought my attachment back in for servicing. Matthew took it in back, tested it out and set me up with a replacement while they figure out why the motor in the carpet head isn't working properly. I took my carpet attachment in March 1. The associate told me he would note for the service department to not exceed work over $55, and I should receive a call by March 8. Heard nothing, so I called Cathey's on March 10. After they returned my phone call from finding out why they hadn't heard anything from the service center, the associate informed me someone at the service center will get on it immediately. On March 13, I got a message stating that they've ordered parts to fix my vacuum head and will receive them within 2-3 weeks. So at 2 weeks, I call to see if they've heard anything about my vacuum and they said the 3 week mark would be the following week (April 3).So, we go passed April 3...I call Thursday, April 6 and they said they're still waiting for parts. We're over week 4 when I pick up a loaner vacuum, and the associate who checked on my repair said the parts are still in waiting. They finally finished my vacuum yesterday, All in all, I think they just need to work on communication, and write notes on all their service jobs, so all the gentlemen working on the vacuum side can be up-to-date on their current jobs and customers. read more

Decent selection of vacuums. We knew what we were looking for when we went in (we had done a bunch of research prior). We just wanted to see the vacuum in person and were looking to make a large (for us) purchase. The salesman was nice but showed us only higher-end vacuums. He knew what we were looking at, and did a complete demonstration on a vacuum that was more that twice as much as we were looking to spend. We ended up buying a Miele, which was priced at Cathey's as about $40 less than even Amazon. I think that was a good deal, and we got an additional $25 off because they are having a Yelp deal right now. Overall, I would definitely go back again (but hopefully won't have to for a long, long time...). read more

I'm finished with Cathey's. The last two times we've dealt with them, the salesperson has been arrogant. First, when I called to inquire about a serger, I explained I rarely used it, maybe 3-4 times a year so I didn't want to spend a lot on one. His response? "No one ever does". Pretty condescending. If you don't want to sell Viking sergers, perhaps you shouldn't carry them. When we purchased a vacuum, I wasn't present but the salesperson talked my partner into a piece of crap Miele canister vacuum that was around $1200. I DESPISE THIS VACUUM CLEANER. A canister vacuum, it's like the crap your grandmother had. It's bulky and clumsy. When we recently returned to Cathey's to purchase vacuum bags, we commented that we hated the Miele and were sorry we were talked into it. The response? "We would have talked you out of an upright and put you in the Miele". Again, why do you carry uprights then, if you think they are such garbage? I'm done with the condescending attitude I've gotten here. There are other places to purchase vacuums and sewing machines (which by the way, I am in the market for a new high end sewing machine, something I do use every day) but I will shop elsewhere. read more

I thought it was just me who had a bad experience at this location on Oracle. It's really sad to read the other reviews. But the experience I had left a bitter taste in my mouth. I called the store one time to check on a vacuum cleaner that I had left for repairs. A gentleman answered the phone and when I asked him about it he yelled at me and told me to stop calling the store. He then hung up on me!!Now with the coronavirus situation going on I'd like to buy a sewing machine, and learn how to sew. The machine that I would like is very expensive and it's only sold at Cathys. But I will never set foot in this particular location again so I have to go on the other side of town to make my purchase. It's my understanding that this is a family owned business? About 6 or 7 years ago we bought a Riccar vacuum cleaner from the Speedway store. It has been pretty reliable and am satisfied with it. Not that I am such a maven on vacuuming or my favorite pasttime. We always get our bags at the store. Well we haven't been here for at least a year (that's how long a package of 6 lasts) The store was nice before but they have since added so much more. I'm not a sewing person but the selections are enormous on all sorts of machines. They have a few brands of Vacuum's as well. I believe that they offer classes. I have shopped at Cathey's for several years; as a visitor to Arizona for several years and now as a resident. I always have been pleased with the good service and friendly atmosphere of the store and recently purchased a new sewing/embroidery machine. My Dyson multifloor 2 started to sound abnormal. When I checked the head of the vacuum, the bristle plastic was stripping itself off of its base. I called Dyson and they put a work order into Cathey's and the maintenance/replacement of any piece would be covered under the 5 year warranty, fantastic news! I took it to Cathey's and they said to come back in 1 week and it would be ready. One week later, the store called me at 11:50 am stating that the part was late in arriving from Dyson and it would be 3 more weeks at least. When I would call and talk to an employee, I was always met with a smart response, acting as if I was incompetent. Obviously I am not educated in vacuums and repair, but come on. The customer service was poor. I would leave voicemails asking for a status update on my vacuum without a return phone call. In the end it took 6 weeks to get my vacuum back. With 2 females with long hair and a yellow lab, one can imagine the amount of hair that accumulated. There was never an apology from the store in regards to a month and a half delay in what would seem to anyone as an easy vacuum head replacement. The vacuum works perfectly. I wouldn't expect anything less from Dyson. Six weeks seems to be a long time to wait for a vacuum. read more

Took my mother in laws' Hoover in because we thought the switch was broken. I was greeted as soon as I came in. Told the gentleman the issue and he was straight forward about the cost of labor and parts would be more than what the vacuum was worth. Then he said well sometimes they shut off because they get hot. He took it and found that sometime was stuck in the hose. 5 minutes later I am on my way with a working vacuum. Great customer service. Cathey's is a business I would recommend and definitely use again. It is the second time I have been in there for vacuum issues and they were great both times. read more
