Very nice, very homey for the cats. The volunteers are very caring. It's so nice to know there's a place for cats for when people are not able to take care of their cats temporarily or long term. Plus, they offer services such as fostering, and vet services for the cats they adopt out depending on the situation, like if it's an adoption or foster type situation. It does get full but to the best of their abilities, this place does try to help all cats and owners who need help. read more

I moved from New York City 4 years ago. Three years ago Linda helped me catch 2 feral kittens, she told me to call the Humane Society and I could have them fixed and released back where I found them. Well, I trapped them like she said and had them fixed, I also caught their Mother and had her fixed just before the we locked down because of the pandemic. Lucky me, I did not want to be over run by feral cats. If it was not for Linda and her advise and where to go and who to trust, I am sure out neighborhood would be over run by feral cats. I read some of the message above, I have to say, people should ALWAYS take their adopted Animals to see a veterinarian. If they are rescue animals, they have to get used to their new surroundings and if they are peeing... go to the vet, and also get a couple more little boxes. The cat are acting out for a reason, be it marking there territory, sickness or just not happy. Maybe build them a Cat condo with a Catio. Excellent place to adopt from. Like any shelter in the area, they were very hesitant that I was wanting to adopt not only one kitten, but two kittens with a three-year-old toddler. After meeting with myself and my daughter, they decided that getting a kitten would be a good fit. My daughter is very mature for her age and very calm around the animals as to not scare them. After checking out different ones I feel Kathmandu is the best. It's a great place for the kitty cats.

In April, we adopted two litter siblings, a brother and sister. Linda asked us to bring them back if it didn't work out, we assured her we would. Garfield and Winnie were perfect. I couldn't wait to spoil them. Garfield loved exploring our home. Winnie did too but she was more shy at first. Once she got comfortable she came out of her shell and was very sweet. Time passes and one day I saw that one of them (or both?) had peed a good amount on an upholstered chair in our bedroom. I cleaned it, threw out the cushion stuffing and was able to get the smell out. Later, I witnessed Winnie peeing in the corner of our gym room carpet. A day or so later, I witnessed Garfield peeing in that same corner, and about that time, I began noticing a strong cat urine odor. I read black light flashlights are used to find urine so I bought one. With that, I found there were many spots/areas they had peed on carpeting. I contacted Linda by email and she gave me some suggestions, one of which was to put a second litter box in the gym room, which eventually I did. She didn't like my Litter Robot even though I told her the cats use it fine. I never once got mad at the cats for the peeing. I just took care of the spots using the appropriate remedies. These things weren't working so took them to the vet and she diagnosed them both with FIC, FLUTD, Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease. I had never heard of it. Poor Garfield was in a lot of pain, his bladder was inflamed. I felt terrible for him. The vet told me there is no cure and put them on a 14 day pain and inflammation medication and said it might or might not help. A week later, on July 4th, I didn't realize it at the time, but because of the popping sounds that night, I guess it made them anxious and they both peed all over the place. I found this out early morning of the 5th. Even though the second litter box was in the middle of the gym room and the Litter Robot they also used was right there, too, they still peed in 5 new places on the carpeting in addition to the 25 places they had already peed. I know it's not their fault and never blamed them. I wish we had hardwood floors or tile throughout our upstairs, then it wouldn't have been an issue. We cannot afford to replace our carpeting with a hard surface, it's a large house. Upstairs is plush carpeting, downstairs is hardwood. They never once peed downstairs. July 5th, I surrendered them to Catmandu. I was a mess having to return the kitties I have fallen so in love with. Our neighbor, Kelly, drove me because she and my husband didn't want me to drive because I was so upset and crying. When we got there, Linda treated me as if I was a criminal. She had no empathy for my feelings whatsoever. Kelly said she never witnessed anything like it and that Linda was very unprofessional. I miss Garfield and Winnie so much my heart aches for them. I wish I could have kept them but they were unfortunately ruining our house. My heart wanted to keep them and put up with it but my mind told me otherwise. I feel as if Linda thought I shouldn't care about my house, that the cats mattered more. She made me feel like a bad person for not wanting my carpets peed on. As much as I love Garfield and Winnie, I knew I couldn't keep them. My heart was torn. I sent Linda an apologetic email and asked how Winnie and Garfield were doing and she has not written back to me. Not a peep. She was so rude to me. I think she sees herself as a cat savior and does not care for people's feelings. I see that she has Winnie up for adoption on Home to Home and she is not mentioning anything about specialized care. The vet put them on Hills Prescription Diet Food and said they had to be on it for the rest of their lives. She saw lots of crystals in both Garfield and Winnie's urine samples. They also need filtered water, not distilled, tap or bottled, it has to be filtered water. Given that she is not mentioning these things, she is misleading the next adopter into thinking the cats are healthy. Nothing is mentioned about peeing outside the litter box. She has all my documentation from the vet. Now, I am not trying to hinder Winnie being adopted, I want the best for her, but I believe that this information needs to be known to whomever wants to adopt her, so they are aware and can be prepared. I think it's very possible Linda knew about these issues when we adopted them in the first place. The vet office I took them to thinks it is likely she knew. They think because she is not being up front about the issues on the current adoption site with Winnie, very likely she was not up front with me about the their health issues. I believe Linda's goal is to adopt out the cats no matter what, omit information about them, let the people get bonded to the cats and then hopefully keep them dealing with whatever. She was mad at me because I returned them. I wanted to give them the best home ever and spoil them with love. I love Garfield and Winnie and will always love them. read more

I have no doubt that this shelter is well-intentioned, but my experience was a disaster I inquired about what was listed on Petfinder as a Siamese declawed kitten, but did not submit an application and only expected my question to be answered online. No picture was given. ( I would not deliberately declaw a cat, but was looking for an indoor Siamese, so it sounded interesting since this cat was declawed and needed to be indoors.) I was surprised to find a message on my answering machine, saying that I was the ideal match for the cat. I called back and explained that I was unable to drive from CA to NV, due to upcoming cataract surgery. The assistant admitted that the cat was one of two brought in together and was actually five to seven years old. (The other cat had already been adopted separately.) She called again, five minutes later, and and offered to deliver the cat! I agreed to accept the cat unseen, but began to have suspicions as to why the two cats had not been adopted together. I put my concerns aside and heard no more for the next -week- and -a- half during which I called several times, but no one answered. In the meantime, I ordered five hundred dollars worth of supplies. through Amazon and Chewy for the cat! I finally received a call from the assistant, telling me that she was sorry to inform me that the cat's (apparently recent) declawing procedure was badly infected, and that the cat had to have additional surgery! "It looks awful", she stated,"the nail hanging down and all!" Moreover, the staff had finally come to realize that the two cats were bonded and crying for one another and would eventually be re-united in Nevada.. She offered to find me another cat, but said she had not realized that I needed one that was strictly indoors. I asked why I had not been contacted earlier, when all of this had been discovered. She replied that she did not know how to leave a simple message on my answering machine, despite the fact that she had successfully done so initially! I felt as though the cat and I had both been handled incompetently and paid dearly for it. I wish it a successful recovery and a happy reunion with its partner, but would NEVER recommend this shelter to others. Sometimes, just having good intentions, without a reasonable amount of competence, just not good enough! read more

I went to catmandu with a friend with intentions of my friend adopting a cat. While walking through the place and answering Linda's 1000 questions about how my friend lives ( which is a brand new home that she just moved into) and deciding whether or not my friend was capable of adopting a cat, this women was dead set on every cat we picked had to go with another cat because it needed a companion. In the end my friend picked the one cat (Frank) that did'nt need a companion. Linda let my friend know that someone that volunteered there at the facility was interested in him as well and of course they would get first dibs since they volunteered, she then proceeded to tell my friend to go online and do the application process and they would go from there. Great my friend said and we left, went straight home and my friend done the application right away and submitted it. The next day Linda called my friend and let her know that she was approved and that she could come get "Frank" and they agreed on meeting time. In between the time of the phone call and the time my friend was suppose to pick Frank up my friend went and bought all new things for him ( litter box, collar, treats, toys etc) he was for sure coming home to a loving family and would have all the attention he needed and deserved. A hour before my friend was due to pick Frank up Linda calls and tells my friend that they had changed their mind. Linda proceed to tell my friend that Frank seemed ill, that he was weezing and just seemed like he was'nt feeling well and that she felt like Frank would need to have a family that would adopt him and another cat so he would have a companion. Mind you during the walk through my friend was honest and let Linda know that she had just moved into a brand new home and was getting settled so during the phone call Linda placed to my friend telling her she wasnt letting Frank go she also made a comment stating that she felt my friend wasnt secure enough in her home to be able to adopt and take care of a cat properly. It almost seemed as if this women didnt want to let any of the cats go because according to her they all had to have a companion. I appreciate Linda's passion but to approve someone's application then come back and say that she didnt feel like my friend was capuable of caring for a cat is rude and absurde! If this women would let some people adopt some of these cats to good homes all of them wouldnt need a companion because im sure that not every cat in that place was brought there with a companion and its pretty self explanitory that when 100 cats live in the same spot thats what they got to be accustomed too. This Linda women made my friend out to be like she was a piece of trash. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone and i feel sorry for the cats that are there who dont have a chance at living in a loving home simply because this women wants to run a business but dont want to let any of them go.... My friend ended up going to the Humane society in Carson and in less then a hour we walked out with a beautiful furry baby who is about to expierence a wonderful life and have all the love and attention she deserves... i highly recommend by passing Catmandu and going to staright to Humane society. They are way more professional and their respect is out standing.... read more

This is going to be long but please read. I adopted a 3 year old cat a little over a year ago from Catmandu and it turns out he has FeLV. Catmandu is a free roam shelter which originally I though was great, but they DO NOT tell you that they DONT test for FIV or FeLV. ( I also want to say that since I adopted my cat he has not been around other cats and is indoor only so there's no way he got FeLV after I adopted him). I spoke on the phone with the women who owns Catmandu and told her that the cat I adopted from them has FeLV and they should let adopters know that there cats could possibly have FIV/FeLV and she told me that they can't afford to test for it and they are not going to go over every single thing they don't test for with adopters. I was honestly disgusted that this women doesn't think that it's her responsibility to let people know this and that she's okay with mixing a bunch of cats together who are not being tested and is possibly shorting the life spans of once healthy cats. I don't want people not to adopt from here because these cats deserve good homes but if you already have a cat at home I wouldn't recommend getting a second one from here, unless your cat is already sick with FIV/FeLV. read more

Today I had an appointment to meet a prospective adoptee. From the moment me, my husband, and two kids ages 2 and 4 walked in I felt the woman (Linda I believe) made her decision about us right then and there. A little background on my family: we have 1 dog Dudley who never bothers our senior special needs kitty. His name is Toothless. He is shy, timid, but has never been remotely bothered by my boys. He even loves up on the dog. We have been Toothless family for over a year now. While yes, a number of cats inside Catmandu scurried away, the cat we were there to meet was not afraid of us. She even greeted both of my boys. I got to hold her for a few minutes as well as my husband and she immediately began to purr. My boys were your typical 2 and 4 year olds and were excited to see other cats and be in a new place. They squeeled with excitement from time to time but they weren't terrors. (Edit to add: And if they were being little terrors I wouldn't deny it. They did not touch a cat unless they asked me or their father if they could pet one.) Catmandu assumed that we would not be able to dedicate enough time and attention towards the cat we were there to see which seemed extremely unfair to judge a family like that. From the moment we walked in the woman constantly said "This isn't going to work." If you're a family with younger kids looking to adopt a cat, this place is not for you and will not welcome you. It is really disheartening because we would have cared for and loved the cat we were there to meet. We will not be back and will look for a cat to love and adopt another place. Upon reading through the reviews here and on their Facebook page it seems apparent that it's a pattern, that any family with kids, is immediately turned away. read more

I was trying to find a kitten to add to our family, and upon asking different people, came upon Catmandu on Facebook. I checked out their page and read some reviews. Someone had left a one star review stating that they wouldn't adopt out a kitten to her because she has a child under five or six. I Facebook messaged them, two different times, and never heard back. I'm assuming because they went to my page and saw I had a toddler. I ended up having to go down to the Bay Area for a funeral service, and went to the SPCA down there, and adopted a three month old black kitten who fits perfectly with our home. It's great what they do, but shame on you and your bad customer service. P.S.,my toddler is great with my kitten. Stop making assumptions that people with kids don't have the right to own a kitten. read more

I am a proud parent of 4 cats, 2 domestic and Indonesian Bengal cats, I spoil my cats to death. I have raised cats all my life and they are great companions. Once in a while you may get a sick one, but that does not mean you abandon it. For all of you first time cat parents, It is important to understand that animals are like your children, It takes lots of responsibility and care and medical upkeep. It's not like you just bought a piece of furniture and let it sit. I have read some negative comments on CatMandu, my advice to you is be more informative on how to take care of a cat before becoming a cat owner, there are so many irresponsible cat owners out there, this is why there are to many abandon cats suffering. I have rescued a few myself, some healthy some not so healthy,It is costly and time consuming, and when we let them go, we want to make sure they are in the right hands. So don't be offended if you have children under a certain age group and they refuse to give you a cat. Children can be very aggressive and abusive to animals at a young age, nothing personal. We adopted a kitten for Christmas on 12/6, paid the adoption fee and agreed on a pick up date which was Christmas Eve. They called us a week later and said if we couldn't adopt the kitten our kitten was kenneled with we couldn't have him. We were so excited to adopt the kitten we had chosen and surprise our kids for Christmas, but they took him back and gave us a refund. We will not attempt to adopt any cats from them in the future. read more

Catmandu is an amazing rescue! The owner Linda is such an integral, kind, compassionate woman who goes all out for the cats and kitties in need. She has a huge heart for both two legged and four legged creatures in desperate need. Linda stepped up for a little cat who had a horrible start in life that my son and his girlfriend saved from almost being run over, then abused in a home. Linda came to his rescue when I called her in desperation as we have dogs that are not cat friendly. Little LT is now in a loving home because this rescue stepped up. Thank you Linda.
