(3/5) The food at Catrin Cantina was outstanding overall. The Trompo Pastor was absolutely banging good and easily the highlight of the meal. The elote, ceviche, and several other dishes were excellent, which is why I was happy to compliment the staff and leave a generous tip. The only disappointment was the Pinchos Steak Skewers. The steak was served well done, tough to chew, and the potatoes were rock hard and undercooked. When I mentioned it, I was told the potatoes were essentially for presentation and that the waiter should have asked how I wanted the steak cooked. Respectfully, I disagree. Asking for steak temperature should be part of the restaurant's process, and food quality ultimately falls on the kitchen and management, not just the server. That said, one dish didn't outweigh an otherwise very good dining experience. The Trompo Pastor alone is worth coming back for, and I'd gladly give the restaurant another shot. The staff is incredibly friendly. I left my wallet here and only realized well after they were closed, and they were kind enough to let me get it back that same night! Thank you very much guys! Their food was really flavorful and some of the dishes have fantastic presentation. We got the taquitos appetizer, and my husband got the tlacoyo which came out sizzling, and I got the pollo zamora. All three tasted fantastic. They serve big portions, even for their appetizers. My jamaica aguas fresca even came in a giant glass that lasted me my whole meal. Will definitely come back here. I highly recommend this spot! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place has intimate lighting, so this would be a great place to take a date![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] ;)

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This quaint little place packs a lot of character. The vibe was low and atmospheric, yet surprisingly clear -- like a scene set for quiet conversation and comfort.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server took real good care of us. There were some things my family and I ordered that were top notch, like the shrimp nachos. The kids meals were okay but nothing too spectacular.

We ordered online and picked up so we knew the food wouldn't be as good as it is in the restaurant. The food came with chips and various dips. The salsa was on the lighter side and the chips were a bit stale. 4/10 Lumpia: you can choose the meat filling and it was really good! I was surprised they had it and it did not disappoint. They were soggy because of the travel but the filling was amazing 8/10 Elote: it didn't taste as good as other Elote I've had. The corn wasn't very juicy and there was no spice or sourness to it at all 5/10 Enchiladas: my partner could not stop raving about them 10/10 Carne asada tacos: I thought they tasted like standard beef tacos but my partner said they weren't seasoned properly 6/10 Piña colada: I expected it to be sweeter and creamier but it was VERY STRONG 7/10 (great option if you're trying to feel something) Churro cake: the ice cream was delicious. The cake part was denser than I expected and the cheesecake part was a bit gritty. 5/10 Overall, I'd come in to visit in person next time to get the full experience.

Hands down the best Mexican restaurant I've ever experienced. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the moment you walk in, the warm and inviting décor sets the tone for an exceptional dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is gracious and attentive, ensuring every detail is just right. And the food--absolutely phenomenal. The presentation of each dish is top-tier, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to quality and atmosphere. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Every plate feels like a work of art, perfectly aligned with the restaurant's upscale vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm typically not a fan of beans, but here, they are prepared to perfection--full of rich, satisfying flavor. The rice is simply chef's kiss. And the drinks? Absolutely incredible--thoughtfully crafted and bursting with flavor. This is, without a doubt, my new favorite Mexican restaurant.

Sophia and I headed here for Newport News Restaurant Week anxious to try some of their dishes. They opened up last year in the Richneck area and from how it seemed via responses online was worth going to. Let's see how the result turned out below. The initial plan was to have lunch one Saturday after we went to the movies, but they were packed with a 15-20 minute wait so we left. On the following Thursday, we came for dinner and again, it was packed but the wait was only 10 minutes. But they didn't take our name down or even ask. Kind of strange. Inside, the decor is beautiful. They certainly know how to keep it spotless. And there were candles lit everywhere. Definitely gives you a calm vibe. They also had a musician perform acoustic guitar for the night. When someone plays a Britney Spears song really well, you know they have talent. Now this is where things take a turn. Within minutes, the server came by giving out menus and taking our order for drinks (waters for both of us). It took probably 5 minutes for him to come back. Immediately, I noticed there weren't enough waiters/waitresses walking around. He did come back and told us they weren't offering the dinner menu for restaurant week. No real biggie since our backup choices didn't cost that much more. I selected the asada quesadilla which consisted of grilled chicken, cheese, onions, and beans with salad on the side and Sophia selected a chimichanga dish with beans and rice. And then.....the wait. For most of the time, we had water and chips with salsa and white sauce. Remember when I said not enough waiters on hand? Turns out the kitchen staff was undersraffed as well. With a huge volume of customers, you would think the speed of meals would increase. But not here. People that were seated when we first entered around 6:30pm were there for over 2 hours. Our food did not arrive until just after 8pm. And that was after they brought food that we did not order (tacos and a burrito). Well, our food did come 10 minutes after the snafu. My quesadilla was good and I took half of it home where I finished the next night. But something didn't look right. Typically, I've had these dishes where it was either split in 2's, cut into quarters and in the middle would be salad or sauce to spread. The presentation had the quesadilla hanging over the salad. This was a first and had the both of us having a 'WTH??' moment. Honestly, I actually let out a laugh. I even showed co-workers the picture and they jumped back. Not kidding with that. Maybe they thought the presentation would wow customers, but I'm pretty sure many of them were having a puzzled look like we did. I really wanted to enjoy my visit, but with everything that took place, it was hard to walk away with a smile. To be honest, I would be surprised if they lasted for over 3 years. It's one thing to start off with below average service when you first open up, which is common for any new business. But if you have this issue months later, something needs to be fixed. I am really sorry if this review sounds harsh, but customers deserve better in return. Most likely, we won't be back :(

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place has a nice date night vibe with low lighting and Mexican music playing not too loudly in the background.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Here's the thing the food is some of the best tasting Mexican food that I've had in this area. HOWEVER, CLEANLINESS IS SEVERELY LACKING! My friend was served her burrito was a fly literally on top of it. It didn't just land on top of it. It was all up on the burrito and white sauce. It was gross. We had to send it back. The server delivered my trompo pastor and knocked over my onions and left it. The onions were literally dripping down the side of the bar table onto the floor in between my friend and I. The guy did not come back and clean it. It took us 5 mins to get someone's attention to either give us napkins so we could clean it or they clean it. The onions just slowly slid and dripped. The guy comes back with his hands and just wipes the onions into his hands. No napkin or cloth. Smh. So we're still like we need a napkin there's wet onion residue in between us. Towards the end I ordered churros to go. But as we were waiting the server kept sneezing IN HER HANDS WITH HER GLOVES ON AND DIDN'T REMOVE THEM OR WASH HER HANDS. At that point I said no thanks. I paid my bill with tap to pay and left. The food here is so good. The Trompo pastor was huge and flavorful. The elotes were good too. Everything was tasty. But, the cleanliness WASN'T there. The ICK factor is present. I won't be back for a while. They get 2 stars solely for the flavor.

Just checked in at Catrin Cantina and it's just as good as the last time we were here. We ordered the same tilapia again--it's still fantastic--and also tried the Lunch #4, which was a great value. They offer lunch until 3:00, even on weekends, which is a nice bonus. There's also a solid selection of vegetarian options. Definitely recommend checking out their specials--they all looked amazing.

New Mexican restaurant in the area and decided to give it a try and the food, service and decor was all great! Food: Salsa and White sauce-good and the the white sauce had a little kick! Grilled chicken taco salad-very tasty and did not skimp on the meat. Birria Tacos-very good! Chimichangas-got this to-.go and have a great portion size of rice and beans. This was also delicious. Pricing was very reasonable! Service was excellent and nice. Inside there are plenty of tables and booths as well as a bar area. It feels very cozy inside.

We stopped here on a whim while in town. The food, servers and restaurant space were very nice. We ordered the elote and fajitas with steak and shrimp and a couple of mojitos. While the food was good, the drinks were very weak. The mojitos tasted like lime kool aid. Overall, we enjoyed our visit.

We ordered pick up and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the place is beautiful and always very busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's very disorganized though and that is frustrating :( You are waiting around sometimes confused and waiting to be acknowledged for service. The food itself was tasty! This place is good competition and has great potential. I may order again in the future.

They were also out of the snake river Wagyu ribeye and strip steak. We were told they didn't receive a shipment of meat. The food was really good regardless of that, luckily they had three orders of lamb chops left so some of us ordered the rest of that. I like that when you order a steak it already comes with two sides. Other steakhouses you would have to order sides à la carte. The cocktails were amazing and service was great. Only thing that was a little weird was we had two birthdays and asked the manager if they happened to do a complimentary birthday dessert or something for the two birthday guest. He responded politely with we don't do any birthday desserts but you can order champagne since it's a celebration. Mind you it's a party of 12 and each couple's bill was at least 250+. Nonetheless, we had a great time and money was well spent, definitely worth trying out!

The food was seasoned to perfection, with portions that were completely satisfying. The wine pairing was exquisite, and Alexa's recommendation was spot-on. The house brownie-cheesecake was also outstanding--rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced without being overpowered by chocolate. Unfortunately, our experience was negatively impacted by a mistake with our appetizer, the Duck Confit. Alexa handled the situation professionally, courteously apologized, and did everything within her ability to address the issue. However, I was disappointed that the restaurant manager never came to our table to personally acknowledge or apologize for the mistake. To make matters worse, there was no acknowledgment or farewell from the host as we exited. This was my wife's birthday dinner, an occasion that deserved a higher level of attention and hospitality from the management team. Alexa demonstrated what exceptional customer service looks like, but the lack of management follow-through and acknowledgment ultimately affected our overall experience. For these reasons, Steak & Tonic receives 3 out of 5 stars from us. The food and Alexa's service were excellent, but management's handling of the situation fell short of the standard I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Very disappointed with the management Team. V/r, Eddie Velez evelez.131@outlook.com

Nice cocktail selection and even better range for apps and mains. Loved the ahi tuna flatbread!! Our favorite of the apps. Could have ordered for dinner and left very happy since it cost less too lol. Seared scallops were delicious- the sauce and fresh corn were amazing. Shrimp and grits had an impressive depth of flavor and the spinach and tomatoes were a unique addition. The black bass was also very good. Cons Prices on the higher side even for a fancy restaurant in Richmond. Didn't love the complimentary bread and butter: I appreciated trying to make the butter something unique- going for savory and sweet the white chocolate and herbs but the white chocolate didn't really work for us as an ingredient. Felt like the bread should've been crusty for butter like this and not the soft rolls they served. Didn't care for the pork belly appetizer. Instead of being crispy, it was just tough.

The owner was chatting with just about everyone and diners were popping over to other tables to say hello, as well. Felt like a very small town. Service was perfect - not overbearing, but perfectly timed for a good flow throughout dinner. Their menu changes often, so some of the items I loved, may not be available - but it does seem like their fried oysters are a mainstay and holy moly, they were delicious. I had one cocktail - I believe it was called Watermelon Sugar. It had vodka, aperol and fresh watermelon. Refreshing and smooth. I tried two apps: the fried oysters and the bao buns. Call ahead if you have a large group. Speaking of calling ahead, you can make reservations at the Open Table app. I hope you give them a try; we will. Happy Yelping!

Smaller parties that were sat after us received their food faster than ours and our food didn't come out hot. The food itself was OK, not very seasoned and bland. I took half my meal to go so I could hook it up myself for breakfast tomorrow. Bright side: our waitress Crystal was very sweet and had great recommendations for our meals. I enjoyed her service. They had a limited menu but allowed us to add veggies to the eggs which was nice. I'd be willing to go back on a less busier day to see how the food and speed of cooking really are.

We walked in to a mostly empty restaurant and asked if we had a reservation, I said we did not and I was told it would be a 20-25 minute wait and they would text us. There is no waiting area, so we walked back to the car. By the 40 minute mark, we decided to just go elsewhere. And again, the place was mostly empty. The entire time we sat in the car, only one other car of 3 people arrived. I'd like to say we will try again, but with this experience, I doubt it.
