Today is Mother's Day and each year my mother FINALLY allows me to treat her to a nice brunch/dinner. This year we went to one of our favorites for their buffet, The Riverwalk. Situated right under the York River bridge, not far from the Yorktown museum, is the cutest village. I'm sorry, they can't claim it as part of the original Yorktown but it is cute. There is a lovely river walk...hence the name of the restaurant. They have some of the BEST views in the area being right there. We had reservations however it being the busiest day for restaurants, we had to chill our heels for a few moments before being taken back. I was more than ok with this as we ended up getting a window seat (see above for reference). Thank heavens they put the name of the server in the receipt cuz y'all know my Swiss cheese brain. Cara was the wonderful server who took care of us. She was always there ready for me to get my mum good & spoiled. Super friendly and very helpful. The buffet, it was impressive for a buffet and while not a big buffet, it was specialized. First up were 3 different kinds of salads, then a fruit platter, and bagels & cream cheese. They had a raw bar with shrimp & oysters next, then breakfast stuff (eggs, potatoes bacon etc) mac & cheese, garlic mashed taters & then a carving station with turkey, ham & lamb. Finally a small but respectful dessert table. If you couldn't find something to fill you, you weren't looking. The single sour note of the buffet was the salmon and Mac & cheese. This is our first time here and I stumbled upon this restaurant on the open table app. I wanted to try something different for our Valentine's Day celebration. When I found out they were having a set menu for Vday I called the week of and we were able to switch our reservations to Friday February 13th. I downloaded the InKiND app as well and they gave me a $50 off discount if you spend minimum $150. The open table app did have a $20 per person fee for reservations and that will be applied to the final bill. Our reservations were at 4pm and we arrived early and the parking area is ample with a parking garage and some street parking. We started walking to the restaurant at about 355pm. This time of the year seems to slower with ot being cold. Once inside we were greeted by the young ladies up front. We were offered a table or booth and we chose a table. We did sit at a table with the view of the water which was nice. Jason our server came over within seconds to pour us water and take our drink orders. We both wanted sweet tea with lemon. Since we knew ahead of time what we were ordering, we gave our appetizers orderes first. We ordered the soup of the day which was the she crab soup. It is highly recommended. We only ordered a cup and not a bowl because we were unsure of how it tasted. The Caesar salad had no anchovie flavor like we are use to and was just medicore. We ordered the meatballs which had lamb and pork in it. They were juicy, tender and just needed a little more seasoning. The Calamari was fried to perfection for me and could've used a pinch of salt. The sweet tea was everything and I would recommend it. For the main entrees, we chose the shrimp and scallop risotto and the beef braised Ragau. There were two scallops and four grilled shrimp and few asparagus with some chopped up bacon. This dish I highly recommend as well. The beef was tender, seasoned and pasta was cooked perfect. The restaurant was mediocre. The service wasn't the best, but the manager was very nice and accommodating. Unfortunately, there aren't a variety of options on the menu. The food lacked seasoning and came out cold, but the manager was accommodating. If you get the mixed drinks, I would ask for a double shot because they are weak. There's ambiance was actually nice. Typical beach restaurant, loud and open. The real failure was that we ordered tacos with gluten free tacos, (corn based), and fries. We received wheat based tacos with chips. When we pointed this out, the manager offered us a plate of fries that he advised had gluten in them. When we refused that, he gave us half price on one meal. He was more concerned with giving us the wrong side rather than the gluten free error. Not worth the prices. read more

If there were an option to give 10 stars, we would gladly do so! Over the past 3+ months I've been reminded of the reality of the hospitality industry my wife and I loved, lived, and labored in for nearly 40 years. (My wife -- much smarter than I -- transitioned to real estate sales and service in 2004 after 20 years in hotel sales and catering.) The lesson is simple: things WILL go wrong -- sometimes horribly so, and sometimes as a series of service failures. The beauty is what happens next.... Hospitality professionals who seize those moments, learn from them, and respond effectively can turn failure into opportunity. A great recovery not only fixes the immediate problem but creates loyal guests who forget the original issue and become enthusiastic advocates for the business. This is EXACTLY what happen to us following the initial concerns raised at the end of our first dinner experience at Riverwalk Yorktown, which I ultimately posted to Yelp out of disappointment and lack of follow up by the Team working the evening of our poor experience at Riverwalk Restaurant in Yorktown. Almost immediately there was a call from the new owner who humbly apologized for what we experienced and genuinely appreciated the feedback we shared. Long story short - he insisted that we come as guest of his - so that we can experience both the food and service we initially were expecting. We were surprised to learn this is the same owner who also owns Waypoint Grille - which is one of our most favorite local Williamsburg restaurants that we've frequented over the last 3 years since moving here. We've celebrated a few of life's key milestones there and enjoyed every minute of service, beverages and entrees from the get go. So we agreed to reach out to him the next time our schedules would allow us the opportunity to be out for dinner in Yorktown. That opportunity didn't happen until Wednesday 12/31/2025 when we decided to go out for dinner on NYE night with our youngest daughter and her husband, (who originally introduced us to Waypoint Grille). Thinking it was a long-shot to expect to be able to reserve a 4 top on NYE night I reached out to the owner and he graciously and insisted we go to the Riverwalk Yorktown Restaurant to give it a 2nd try. Well, bottom line is - everything exceeded our expectations! The only thing outweighing the fabulous food was the server Matt P. ! Absolutely stellar service and even better personality. Everyone loved their she-crab soup but the mushroom appetizer stole the show and the scallops and crab cakes as recommended by our server Matt - was beyond delicious. The dinner really was the highlight of the entire evening - even after making our way to the Williamsburg Lodge to ring in the new year on the dance floor with Good Shot Judy Band on stage. We are excited to try one of the owner's newest restaurant concept - "Ember" in Colonial Williamsburg. We are looking forward to returning to the Riverwalk Yorktown in 2026 when the weather warms up and expect the place to be busy. I hope to see our server Matt P. still working there as he really elevated our experience. Yesterday I made reservations for 1 PM for a party of eight. We were seated promptly at a very nice large table. Unfortunately, it was immediately next to the music man of the day whose music overwhelmed our efforts of conversations. The special menu offered numerous interesting selections plus the buffet. My son ordered the salmon eggs Benedict which never arrived. He did receive a salmon dip which he did not order. Both items appeared on our bill. My husband ordered the blueberry pancakes which were delivered after two requests and when others at the table had finished eating. The two pancakes were each about an 1/8 of an inch thick. Two diners ordered cheese burgers. Both plates had no cheese on the burgers. Two slices of cheese were delivered to the table on a small plate sometime later. It appeared the kitchen was short staffed as our table of eight received the food in sporadic bursts. Over the years we have eaten there on a number of occasions and have even recommended the restaurant to friends. After yesterday's multiple disappointments, we no longer will be doing that. read more

Do you know what happens when people are sitting for over ten minutes at a table and not a single server comes over to the table? Customers leave. There were two other servers that were helping the two tables around us but nothing. Zip. And it wasn't like they were busy with the exception of the eight at the one table that just got their appetizer. Very disappointed! read more

I had quite an experience today at Riverwalk during Easter brunch. The buffet was just okay, but the real issue came when we received the check, which included a mandatory 20% gratuity. This gratuity was not disclosed on the restaurant's website, the menu, or anywhere else during the reservation process. When we asked our server about it, she said, "It's on the menu online." We informed her that it was not and showed her there was no mention of a 20% gratuity. She went to get a manager, but when she returned, she claimed that the manager wanted us to know about a notice regarding the gratuity at the entrance. We explained that this was never disclosed when we made the reservation and couldn't be found anywhere on their website. The server acknowledged that this was true and mentioned that she and other staff had raised this issue with management, but they were dismissed. As we were leaving, a man in management or ownership approached us and asked how the buffet was. We voiced our concern about the undisclosed 20% mandatory gratuity. He insisted that it was disclosed on the menu and website. We showed him that it was not, and his response was simply "and?" and then "okay." When we continued to express our problem with the situation, he repeated "and" again. I eventually told him it was crap not to inform guests about the gratuity in advance. His response was, "Oh, you think so?" He then stared at me blankly, stood in my way as I tried to leave the table, and I told him to move. As we were exiting, he said, "Leave." I replied, "That's where we're going." He then said, "Good, and never come back," and followed us all the way to the exit. This man was wearing blue, had glasses, short brown hair, and was in a management or ownership position. He seemed offended that his questionable practices were brought to light and acted unprofessionally, appearing somewhat unhinged and looking for a confrontation. This is how weak and insecure people behave. Additionally, other guests voiced similar concerns regarding the 20% gratuity not being disclosed when they made their reservations. Classy place with creative menu offerings and a great view of the river. My wife and I sat outside and the weather was perfect for it! It's shady in the evening, so no sun glare. Surprisingly less breeze than is often prevalent near large bodies of water. Service was cordial and efficient, if not especially personal. I had high hopes for this restaurant as there were many tasty-sounding options on the menu, it had a fun cocktail list, and it was in a beautiful location next to the water. And while my meal was "fine"--it didn't quite match my expectations. The champagne cocktail was pretty watered down, the scallops were overcooked, and seating wasn't available outside even though it was sunny and warm. My server was lovely and I would go back again to try some of the other delicious-sounding dishes...but it will need to prove itself. read more

Service was good and the ambiance is outstanding, but the food was not good, especially for the price. I had the seafood Cobb salad. The lettuce was fresh and the other vegetables and cheese were good, but the crab was cold "special" out of the can you get chilled at the grocery store. It smelled incredibly fishy and had an aftertaste like bleach. The shrimp were cold, boiled shrimp. In our view, Riverwalk Restaurant is the nicest restaurant in Yorktown, and we have returned for years. There are limited restaurant choices in Yorktown, and Riverwalk Restaurant suits us. This is a handsome property; we wonder about the management. Seems a better training program for servers would be useful. We wonder about the mixed reviews as well. Probably difficult to hire young folks in this area. From the exterior to the interior to the patio dining, there is so much to like. When we are in Virginia, Maryland, the Carolinas, ... we are inclined to crab cakes, and we find this menu item to be very good and recommend. The tariff is appropriate for the fare. read more

We went here for the Mother's Day buffet. It was ok, I expected a lot more. We had reservations but still had to wait about 20 mins. They were giving flowers (to moms) and champagne while you waited. It's very clean inside and the buffet was organized and clean. I expected better food for the price we paid (think it was around $65 a person?). The set up was a little strange and kind of tight when there was a line at the buffet. The food was lined around the bar and if you wanted just one thing, you had to wait in line to get it. Service was nice. Would prob visit again for the normal menu, not sure if I'd return for the Mother's Day menu. I think it was a little pricey for what you received. read more

We went for lunch. The food was terrible Crab cakes came like pancakes. Short ribs Ragu only had 3 very small pieces of meat for 32 dollars you bet we sent it back. We ask for tea they brought hot water no tea bags had to wait at 15 min for some. That is just some of the things that went wrong. The food was terrible the waitress was so slow. Underwhelmed and Highly disappointed: First, I will start off saying that the atmosphere of the patio seating/view was beautiful! While dining at the establishment I overheard a waitress ask the patrons next to use to please review and comment on the service that they received on a website or method where the restaurant could see the feedback because the restaurant was under new management and had new servers, etc. Unfortunately, our server never offered us that option, or perhaps I would have expressed my concerns there, instead of here. Now about the food, service and overall experience...Service started out great, seated in a timely manner, but things went downhill from there. Our food finally arrived after way too long of a wait considering how many partons were in the resturant at the time. It arrived pretty much cold (which I am not a fan of), but we were gave them grace on that and ate our meal and enjoyed the views and tried to make the best of it. The food actually tasted pretty good, but not killer good...but if it were at least warm where I could taste the flavors better, I may have thought differently. After a while we noticed that our waitress came less and everyone was waiting longer for food after being seated and from the looks on the face of a few around us, the didn't seem thrilled with that either. I understand that it can happen though with new staff or not enough staff, so we decided to not let that affect our servers tip because otherwise Danielle was pretty helpful and hospitable. We paid using the InKind app and I told her we were using it to pay and she said ok, no problem. We paid fully using the app and then tipped using cash and I told her that. We started to leave the hotel after payment, but my husband decided to use the men's room before leaving, so my daughter and I waited for him before we left (so we waited 3-5 minutes before leaving). We started our drive to our lodging accommodations in Williamsburg when we get a call from the hotel saying that we didn't pay our bill fully! I informed and assured the person that called (Athena) that we paid and had not dined and dashed; I was completely offended because it felt as though I was not believed at first. I offered to send my email receipt from InKind that showed a breakdown of how everything was paid and that our server had actually been tipped double because we tipped in cash and I didn't notice InKind built in her tip also. This meant our server got a $38.72 tip on our bill of roughly $113.00 from us and we were ok with that. I sent Athena the email and she looked at it and acknowledged that it said paid in full, but said I see what the email says, but on their in for InKind, it looks like there is money still due. I informed her we were on vacation in the area until Sunday, but we were not coming back that evening especially since we already paid everything and were tired from our drive into the area! She said ok, but when her manager gets in on Saturday (we went Friday night), that he may call with any questions...I was disappointed and frustrated but said ok. To put it kindly, this dining experience left much to be desired, gave a bad start to my families mini-vacation and left me feeling or wondering was the aggressive accusation of non-payment due to the fact that we were an African-American family. We pay our bills, we know fine dining and we don't have to steal from anyone. Overall, it was a poor experience (but hopefully, the new management can do better ithe future for patrons), which in all rights should have been a stellar start to a wonderful weekend. We had a lovely meal! The tables are well spaced and the noise volume was low. I found it very charming. A nice relaxing dinner with very attentive and friendly staff. I'm surprised by some of the comments. Everything was well seasoned and appropriately priced. We enjoyed the ceviche for an appetizer, it was a little different with the sauce but we loved it! My husband got the scallops with risotto, all perfectly cooked. I got the short rib with the sweet potato mash, it was also wonderful. For starters we had a well made old fashion and a strawberry cucumber mocktail and then a couple glasses of wine with dinner. It was all wonderful. Definitely worthy of a special occasion meal, finishing with cheesecake. I'd recommend this place to anyone! read more

This restaurant is great for hosting events and private parties. The servers were extremely accommodating, friendly, and genuine! The food was amazing, delicious, and came out in a timely manner. Visited this place yesterday on a cold dreary Friday afternoon and I LOVED this menu. Literally anything you want is on this menu. Mom and I ordered their cocktails that were delicious and hit the spot. She loved their fried oyster rock but I wasn't a huge fan of my she crab soup, it was more pasty then actual soup and lacked flavor so I added old bay that was perfect. Now for the food option, my mom wouldn't stop talking about her sandwich. She loved every bite!!! For my lobster roll it was okay but lacked flavor as well but those old bay crab fries were ON POINT! Had all the flavor in those. Now our server JACK he was amazing. Super attentive to us, he has legit all the personality and so high energy! Well to start the online menu doesn't matter how the real menu. Went for the Gluten Free options on the menu of yelp. She said they were probably "seasonal" ?? Your GF is seasonal? Ok moving on. They have a couple brands of cider on menu. I ask what flavors. "I don't know I would have to go ask". The. Just stood like you don't want to go ask do you? Ordered the artichoke crab dip. Very very light on crab it's the texture of whip cream. Very odd. We asked if they could do a GF crab cake since it's not on the "seasonal" menu. They said yes but it comes on a regular bun. What's the sense of GF if the bun isn't? Overall staff seems pretty un trained on most of the menu and over all server skills. $65 for lunch. And we split the sandwich because she never can back to take the rest of the order. read more

We had a lovely outdoor lunch here with our dog. The patio overlooks the river and the bridge and is perfect for people watching as they stroll along on the walkways. They were very sweet with our pup and brought her a bowl of water. Our food was very good. We had calamari, which came with a side of a curry spice mixture and a dipping sauce. Both were delicious. There were even little fried green beans in the basket with the calamari. I had the lobster roll, and the buttery bun was so good. We also ordered a Mediterranean salad, crab cake BLT, and kids popcorn shrimp. Everything tasted great. Dessert was a key lime pie with strawberry compote. Yum!! read more

We went for Easter Sunday Brunch with family. The variety and quality of the buffet items was very good and there was something for everyone. Standouts were the Roast beef and chocolate torte. The shrimp cocktail was disappointingly undercooked, as were the poached eggs. But there were so many other options that it didnt detract from a very positive experience. Went to their Thanksgiving buffet today. Extremely disappointed with the food. Everything except the soup was cold, not just warm, actually cold. I live within walking distance but will not spend my money their any longer. Seriously, how does turkey and ham under a heat lamp get cold? The trays of side dishes were cold also.
