The family and I ate here for the first time today. We love going to new restaurants and this one did not disappoint. The service was very good. They were attentive and very nice which I appreciate. The food had good flavor and everyone enjoyed their meal. The chips and salsa were also a plus. The inside of the restaurant was very clean and the booths were huge which is a plus for a family of 5 like ourselves. The vibe was quiet no music or anything like that which would have been nice for background noise. I noticed that they keep everyone next to each other in the booths even though there is open booths elsewhere. I would have rather sat in a booth away from others but we didn't say anything. We felt to close together when there was open booths for more privacy if that makes sense. Last the prices seemed a little high in my opinion for the amount of portions you get. read more

I have been craving the Catrina's chili verde chimichanga for awhile. It's my top choice for the chimi. It is a good size portion complemented with a side of pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream. The service was top tier with plenty of trips to our table to check our drinks and refill the chips and salsa. No extra fee for the sides. The restaurant has plenty of seating for small and large groups. Indoor seating only with a cool little side bar. Come check it out. You'll meet some friendly locals. There are not very many options for Mexican food in Wasco so I'm thankful for Catrina's. We stop by about once a month for date night and to enjoy a sit- down meal. The place gets pretty busy, but we've never had to wait for a table. Service is quick and efficient. We order the same thing each time and some nights the dish is better than others. Maybe a different cook, but taste and presentation aren't always the same. Even though it has a basic style and decor I like the atmosphere of Catrina's. Working out of town and always looking for places to visit and great restaurants. Catrina's is a jewel, my expectations are high as my mom and dad are great cooks and always craving for more. I ordered the combo molcajete; shrimp, carne asada, chicken, nopal, chorizo in mole sauce with rice beans and hand made tortillas. This is my first molacajete and definitely not my last, I was advised that the molcajete was very hot by a wonderful smiling staff. Was in wasco for a week for a job and I didn't know what place had great Mexican food. Then I met a family at Walmart and they recommended this place. I went to eat there Wednesday night and it was amazing. The food was authentic Mexican cuisine and homemade. The restaurant was like an old western Clint Eastwood movie. I walked in and saw the mural of death on the wall. My thoughts were that I'd get food poisoning. The waiter and my companion stated it was the St.Catrina..I'm not sure who it is on their wall, but it has an association with death in the Mexican culture. This place seems like a little ma and pa shop, and you can definitely feel the vibe. The service was quick, I order, got my food, and left within 20 mins. (I was on lunch during a weekday, so you can imagine what that's like) I ordered a lunch special (taco & enchiladas with rice and beans). So I asked for the meat to be carne asada and I was aware it cost extra because the meat you can choose from is chicken, beef, or shredded beef. Carne asada isn't an option unless you pay more. I believe it's either an extra $1 or $2. I was expecting my taco AND enchilada to have carne asada in it...but it was just a cheese enchilada (which was a disappointment for me). The taco was not an authentic street taco. Although the meat was flavorful, it was very salty. The taco also had cheese and lettuce, not something I'm use to unless I go to Taco Bell. I'll definitely try the other menu items next time I visit. read more

Friendly greeting, people in the restaurant, so good start. Chips and salsa fresh and tasty, not too hot not all tomatoes good middle ground. Margarita was very nice. I had the fajitas Puerto Vallarta, Delicious!! Fish and shrimp wonderfully seasoned and cooked perfectly with onions and red & green bell peppers. Hubby had the Carnitas. They were moist and not too fatty cooked very nicely. The only thing that kept me from giving a 5 star were the beans. There was an odd after taste kind of bitter or citrusy. I picked this one off of yelp when I was passing through Wasco for lunch. Chips were super fresh and salsa was homemade and spicy. The shrimp molcajete looked intimidating when it first came out. It turned out to be so delicious I ate the whole thing. The food is all very authentic. Service was quick and friendly. Prices were a tad high for a small town, but the fresh, large shrimp made up for it. I'm going to be driving from Bakersfield again this weekend to try my second choice meal. read more

My wife and I had never been to this place before. We were in Wasco at the time a Yelped what was good to eat in the neighborhood. This place came up, so we decided to check it out. The summer temperature out side was around 108 degrees. We were looking for a good place to have a drink and get out of the heat. As we pulled into the parking lot, the building looked very welcoming. We walked into the restaurant and were happily greeted by the gal at the front door. We asked her what direction the bar was at, she hesitated to reply but then proceeded to point is out to the bar area. The reason she hesitated was that it felt like it too was about 100 degrees in the bar area. My wife and I ended up just sitting at a booth at the restaurant area. After placing our drink order, we looked at their delicious items on the menu. We ordered a molcajete which included chicken, steak and shrimp. When our food arrived first thing I noticed, three out of five plates were very chipped. There is something about chipped plates that really bothers me. Over all, the service was great, beer was cold, food was good, place was clean, bar was HOT. Best of all were their CHIPS & SALSA. They were DELICIOUS !!!! read more

Stopped in here after a meeting in town and my client suggested it. We arrived right around 11:30 so the lunch crowd hadn't arrived yet. Once we were seated it started to get busy with what seemed to be regulars. Our server took our drink order right and the 3 of us searched the lunch menu. One of my companions ordered a chile verde burrito and he said it was amazing! Another companion ordered the taco and enchilada lunch special and he enjoyed it as well. I decided on the chicken taco lunch special. Thank chicken had a light seasoning which was good. The soft shell tortillas were already ripped when they arrived, so I ended up just using chips to eat mine instead of the tortilla. I would probably order something else next time, but my meal was far from terrible. All of our meals were hot, fresh, and came out fast! My favorite part of the meal was the chips and salsa! The salsa had a great flavor and a bit of a kick to it, but not too spicy. I wish they would have brought more! All in all, I'd eat there again if I was in town. I was very surprised on how good this place is. The food at this place is high quality and very authentic except for the cheese on the beans. Everything else is done very well. I had the chile verde rice and beans. The pork was very tender and the green sauce was spicy and full of flavor. That dish is done very well. Portion was a big. My wife had the cheese enchiladas brice and beans and my son had chicken taquitos. Nothing but good thing from them also. We had to go to Wasco CA for the first time. We attended funeral services for a family relative. After the services we went to eat at Catrinas. The restaurant is older and in need of paint and updating. However, the food was excellent. The waiter told us they cook their food in the style of Guanajuato Mexico. I ordered a combination dish of an enchilada and a taco with rice and beans. I didn't care for the taco because it had a fried shell. However the chicken and vegetables were fresh and crisp. My husband chose a chile colorado burrito. This spicy pork and red chile sauce was great. The service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant is a little pricey. If I have to go back to Wasco I would go back to this restaurant. read more

Stay away from this place. We went in around mid afternoon the place was empty. We ordered our plates one of them being the molcajete and my mother in law ordered shrimp tacos. The waitress took about an hour to come take our order trying to be understanding we waited, when we finally ordered the molcajete was missing items they said "no that's all it includes" so we showed her the menu the cook came out and said it does actually come with it. It was also a very sad molcajete compared to other places and expensive. They messed up the shrimp tacos and brought out a shrimp caldo instead we told them that it's the wrong order and the waitress said "that's what she ordered" both my husband and I were there and heard that was definitely NOT what she ordered my mother in law decided to keep it as we were starving and although it's not what she wanted she didn't want to make any trouble. The service was horrible, the food was worse, and we will never step foot there again and make sure all our family and friends know this. I'm surprised there are any good reviews. read more
