Be prepared to wait longer than usual for food. I had seen an Instagram reel of a woman raving about how delicious the food was here so I decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is chill, the decor is big, but maybe it looks like that because it is a small resturant. I couldn't decide what to order so I asked our server for suggestions. I forgot what the name of the item was but, I can't believe it took forever to bring out what I received. Yes my server did tell me the meat was going to be thin but I had no idea it would be thin and dry, with hardly any flavor. The onions and nopales just tasted like they were stirred once or twice in oil, no flavor whatsoever. The rice was pretty good but the beans had nothing special to them just black beans. The salsa it came with was very bland. The tortillas are homemade and actually pretty delicious. I got a fresh water I forgot the name but it was really good. My husband ordered the chilaquiles rojos and omg such a disappointment. He ordered the eggs over easy and they were completely cooked. The salsa just tasted like ground up dried chiles with no spice, no flavor just color. He eneded up taking my fried jalapeño which wasn't even spicy just to add flavor to his food. I will say the pacifico michilada is pretty well made. My husband also ordered cafe de la olla which didn't wow me at all. The prices are sorta high for the quality of flavor you will receive. The mole is what I really wanted to try since they did say it was a favorite. I ordered one taco de mole which had more rice than mole itself and must I say it is very uninspiring. Everyone has different taste buds but this is my review on this place. Btw you would think they would offer free refills on chips and salsa because they take forever and a half to bring out your food, but they don't. The exact words were "the first chips and salsa are free, more will have to be payed for". They must get a lot of customers asking for the tapatio that they are running out but when my husband asked for it they brought out and almost empty bottle.

This restaurant has popped up numerous times on my social media feeds so I decided to pop in today for a quick lunch. The place is in downtown Bakersfield and does not have dedicated parking so make sure that you plan to park in the parking garage or on the street. Luckily I was able to find something on the corner across the street at one of the busiest times of the day. The place is very small, so true to its name... It's in a very small corner of the building. It was hard for me to tell where the front desk was because there is a wall partition that goes well above the heads of anyone standing over at the counter, so I waited a few minutes before anyone noticed I was there. There were no tables on the terrace... It was full of mosquitoes anyway so I doubt anybody would want to sit there. The front part of the restaurant was occupied as well as the booth along the corridor, so I had to go sit at a very small table around the corner next to the bathroom. The menu has a lot of food options, and there are definitely options for vegetarians. They range from common appetizers to seafood and soups to Oaxacan specialties such as mole and quesadillas with Oaxacan cheese. I was super excited to try this place based on what I saw on social media and was quite hungry. Despite the place being small, it had a very busy and bustling kitchen, you could hear the activity in the kitchen, such as pots and pans, and the fryer being used. The places decorated in Mexican decor and is actually quite cute. I ordered chicken mole Oaxacan-style, which means the mole was very dark almost black. My plate came with refried beans and some cheese as well as Mexican rice. It also included flour or corn tortillas, the corn tortillas I was told were made on site so I opted for those. I ordered Jamaica but the server accidentally brought me cucumber and lime. I had a tiny sip of the cucumber and lime beverage and it was very sweet and did not taste like cucumber or lime. When I reminded the server that I ordered, hi Mika, she brought it over immediately and was very nice about it the Jamaica was better tasting. The server brought over chips and salsa. The salsa was was not thick and it was almost as if they added water to make it stretch a bit. The chips were nothing special, they like salt and they were starting to go stale. I was super excited when I got my food. It was nice and hot. The mole was tasty but not as tasty as I've had at other places and it seemed like they just put more sauce on top of a boiled chicken thigh. I am used to the chicken being cooked with the mole sauce so that it integrates with the sauce or it is served shredded and then integrated into the sauce. The rice did not seem fresh to me, it was tasty but dry like when you reheat it. The beans were OK, there was nothing special about them. While the tortillas did appear to be made by hand, I don't think they were freshly pressed and made right as I ordered my meal, even though it took a moment to get my food. The tortillas probably were made before and reheated therefore, they got cold quickly and were dry. I hope to go back and try the enchiladas and maybe the experience will be different or perhaps I can go on a day when the rice is freshly made and the tortillas are hot off the press. But today was not that day. Enjoy! PS. I forgot to add that my mole dish was rather pricey coming in at $18. Also, the restaurant charges $.75 as a service fee, I did not ask what it was for... But I will say it was not advertised anywhere at the front desk or on the menu that you would be charged a service fee. Overall, with tax, service fee and tip my meal was just under $32.

Amazing dishes that I never had before. I had to google a few of them to understand what they are. Friendly service. The ding in the star is because it took an hour for the dishes to come to our table. Very slow.

This is such a hidden gem with delicious homemade Oaxacan food and inviting atmosphere in downtown Bakersfield. Parking: there is a parking garage that charged us $5 to park on a Saturday. There is free parking on the street nearby as well. Location: it's on the corner across from 18hundred and located a few doors down some barber shops. They have indoor and outdoor seating options, restrooms available on site. Food was delicious, plenty of food for the price, everything made fresh to order. I recommend ordering an appetizer as you wait because the food can take a little long but that's because you get homemade delicious food that is worth the wait. I do wish their salsa was a little spicier but it was good because it wasn't overpowering the food. They have some good options you can make vegetarian by asking for no meat. They have a brunch menu as well, aguas frescas, Jarritos, cafe de olla, mimosas and soda. Service was excellent with our server being attentive to when we needed something, and patient as we looked over the menu and asked questions.

Went in to try their traditional Oaxaca enchiladas because I heard good things about it. The mole didn't disappoint, it had good flavor but it was a bit too sweet for my liking. The atmosphere was cute and cozy, the place is fairly small but also offers outside seating. The aguas frescas were delicious, highly recommend the pineapple agua fresca. Service was nice, and would recommend this place if you're looking for flavorful traditional Oaxaca food

The Mole and agua fresca was good but everything else was not. Service was not good, the wait for food and the portions are small. They actually gave my wife a lot of Mole with a small piece of chicken and I had the chicken tacos with little mole where the dry rice inside the tacos takes in most of the Mole. 60$ down the drain

The mole was perfect and scrumptious! My son loved the pozole and the birria, but the mole was the winner! Perfect sweet and spice balance. The prices and portions are fair. This place is clean with fast and friendly service. We will definitely return for the mole and menudo!

Small place , I little bit unattended, food take too long but it looks ok , sadly noticed that one of our dishes was very cold (chilaquiles) I think that made that first and then everything else so by the time everything was ready chilaquiles were so cold and we send it back. Sadly they didn't make a new dish they just throw it at the microwave and bring it back in less than two minutes, so very disappointed, that also included a 3% charge in our check assuming we going to pay with card so they should add it after they see we are going to pay with the credit card . But away the French toast with berries were amazing.

This place was soooo delicious! Looking for easy Mexican food downtown we found this. It used to be Las Salsas. What an upgrade from the previous restaurants food. The rice and beans are so good. Such fluffy perfect rice. Tacos delicious. Now, the mole enchiladas. WOW! I can't wait to have them again. Perfect spice and sweetness. Delicious and perfectly rich. The cóctel de camarón was bomb. The ketchup, spice, huge shrimp, plenty of avocado and pepino. Oh so good! My son loved his pozole. On point. Delicious birria. And the chile relleno burrito was so good with a whole chile. It had plenty of rice and beans but it was good soft food for my 80 hr old dad. We loved everything and will definitely be back.

The best Mole in Town!!!!! I told the server I had 30min for lunch when I called and asked if he can have the food ready for when my colleague and I arrived, he said "of course" and whe. We arrived the place was fresh and hot. This is by far one of the best mole sauce I have ever tasted, its authentic has that original chocolate spicy taste and and left me wanting more. I am looking forward to future dining. read more

The food is scratch made to order and is very tasty, the staff is friendly and welcoming. The only downside is a very long wait time for orders, I've been in a few times and it's always 15-20 min wait for a simple order for myself. Would definitely like this place to succeed as the food is yummy, but service times needs to improve. read more

The Mole and agua fresca was good but everything else was not. Service was not good, the wait for food and the portions are small. We dropped in for a snack Chips ,Salsa and Oaxaca Quesadillas All DELICIOUS Quesadillas perfection and filling. It was an appetizer and it was the perfect pick me up. The salsas were delicious read more

Decided to stop here randomly for my lunch break, was able to order to go. I tried their carne asada torta combo. It was huge! And super delicious, I don't know what kind of meat they used, but I didn't run into any fat or hard pieces it was all super soft, which is always a bonus points for me. The place looked clean and super cute. I love the flowers on the wall and the hand painted salt and pepper shakers I thought it was a really cute touch. Good vibes, very homey, customer service was great as well, very helpful. read more

Service was good our waitress was amazing, only concern was that it was not packed when we got there and when we ordered our food it took half an hr to come out. At that point I had just asked our waitress if we can have it to go since I needed to be somewhere at a certain time. Agua de Sandia was amazing. I ordered the tacos de Chapulines, I was excited to try them but took forever to come out on top of that I paid 16 plus tax for 2 tacos.... crazy work. Only to find out that my tacos were filled with meat and topped with the chapulines. Paid 50 bucks for 2 enchiladas, 2 tacos and 2 agua frescas... read more

Food was a 8.5, but the service was super super slow I give them a 2 in service. They need one or two more waiters and at least one more cook, they only have one... waiter was good and very nice and polite but she was alone. read more

The manager told me because I did not confirm, they were not sure they were going to hold the table. I apologized that I had not recieved a call, but asked if we could still have the table (I was there on time and could see the large table with the reservation note on it). The manager begrungenly said they would allow us to still dine with them, but they said they would not seat us until more of our party arrived. I asked if we could wait for our party at the bar, but they said they would not because every seat at the bar was taken. So just a heads up, you cannot stand at the bar, you cannot stand around the restaurant, and they do not have a place to sit and wait for your table, you just have to stand outside (I'm sure it has to do with safety or firecodes, I didn't argue, we waited outside until people at the bar left). Once we were seated, the staff was not friendly. Wondering if we should leave or not, I called a friend who works near the building who frequents this place often on what I should do. He told me to go back inside and that the staff would be nice. When I returned, a new server came to our table with a tray of shots and said they would be taking care of us for the rest of the evening. I figured maybe the manager and that other server was just having a bad day, my friend must have called the restaurant and asked his most trusted server to help us, and enjoyed the rest of our evening. I didn't want to risk it another bad experience, so I haven't returned since. A few months ago during the whole Cesar Chavez news broke out, that friend who frequented the place went with another friend to the Botonist and was talking about the news while they were dining. The manager overheard. Later when my friends were getting ready to leave, the manager started becoming upset with my friends and told my guy friend, "I HOPE SOMEBODY R*PES YOU". Stunned, he asked her to repeat herself and she did. My friends left. The chefs and building are wonderful, but obviously something needs to be done about the management and staff with being professional and treating customers with respect. I've worked in the service industry and understand how stressful it can be, but I have always been able to keep my cool around people who are trying to enjoy a nice meal. Hoping they recieve the help they need as I love to see my community thrive.

You pass through it on the way to somewhere else…read more-- Mammoth, the Sequoias, the long flat grind up the 99 to Sacramento -- and if you stop at all, it's for gas or a bathroom or because your BMW's brakes have decided, somewhere around the Grapevine, that they'd rather not. Thank you, Weatherford BMW of Berkeley, for the near-death experience and, inadvertently, for one of the best nights out I've had in years. Stranded and waiting on repairs, we checked into The Padre, the only hotel in Bakersfield that feels like someone with a subscription to Dwell had a hand in it, and set out walking through a downtown that time has treated with more kindness than reputation suggests. There's a Woolworth's luncheonette still hanging on. There are old brick facades and wide sidewalks and the particular quiet of a Central Valley evening when the heat finally breaks. And then, on 18th Street, there is Tiki-Ko, and suddenly you are no longer in Bakersfield at all. You are, instead, inside someone's magnificent obsession. Tiki-Ko is a proper tiki bar -- not a tiki-themed cocktail lounge, not a place that bought some bamboo at a craft store and called it atmosphere, but a genuine, committed, floor-to-ceiling shrine to mid-century Polynesian fantasy. The carvings are real. The lighting is correct -- which is to say, barely there. The mugs are serious. There are pufferfish lamps and carved totems and the whole glorious taxonomy of tiki ephemera, accented here and there with a skate-culture edge that keeps it from feeling like a museum. It's reverent without being precious. The drinks are the real thing. Mai Tais built with actual orgeat. Zombies that earn the name. The bartenders make them with the kind of care and enthusiasm that tells you this isn't a gig -- it's a calling. They want you to be here. They want to talk about rum. They want you to try the Painkiller. In a city that most Angelenos regard as a punch line, somebody built a world-class cocktail bar and filled it with joy, and the regulars clearly know it. I don't think providing a glass with ice to pour your canned room temp soda water in, is too wacky an idea to be perturbed by the request. The female who took the order was friendly, smiled and was professional. We got a third cocktail- the Mai Tai. The grumpy bartender was friendlier this time. So, that helped. Maybe he felt overwhelmed and I threw off his groove by asking for water- then a glass... either way- being annoyed wasn't cool. The music.... My wife opted for the Caesar salad, with house made croutons which she said was great tasting. I opted for the soup of the day, which was an Italian wedding soup. I was so excited to come here for karaoke with my friends. The BLVD is the only place that I know…read moreof with karaoke rooms. Otherwise, I usually find myself traveling going out of town to sing with my friends. This was my first time renting a room at the BLVD, but it was not the best experience. The Singa system that they use has a decent catalog of songs to choose from, but the ones that we were hoping for wasn't available. Additionally, the system lags when trying to queue a song. It messes up the tempo and the display of the lyrics for a song that's currently being played. The speakers sounded awful, so we had to take time out of our hour to have that checked out. The worker who fixed the speakers encouraged us to speak with the front desk, so we could get some time back for the maintenance. We were assured that we would get some time added, but that did not happen. We even double checked with the front before the original time expired. Afterwards, we waited for a while to see if it could still be resolved. My friend ended up speaking with the manager who explained to us that there were some technical issues on their end when they tried to add some time. I appreciate that the manager was transparent and asked us how she can improve our experience. While we could not be refunded, we received a gift card equal to the amount that we paid for our karaoke session. I'm hoping to come back to the BLVD for a better karaoke experience next time.
