The best Mole in Town!!!!! I told the server I had 30min for lunch when I called and asked if he can have the food ready for when my colleague and I arrived, he said "of course" and whe. We arrived the place was fresh and hot. This is by far one of the best mole sauce I have ever tasted, its authentic has that original chocolate spicy taste and and left me wanting more. The only downside is a very long wait time for orders, I've been in a few times and it's always 15-20 min wait for a simple order for myself. This restaurant has popped up numerous times on my social media feeds so I decided to pop in today for a quick lunch. The place is in downtown Bakersfield and does not have dedicated parking so make sure that you plan to park in the parking garage or on the street. Luckily I was able to find something on the corner across the street at one of the busiest times of the day. The place is very small, so true to its name... It's in a very small corner of the building. It was hard for me to tell where the front desk was because there is a wall partition that goes well above the heads of anyone standing over at the counter, so I waited a few minutes before anyone noticed I was there. There were no tables on the terrace... It was full of mosquitoes anyway so I doubt anybody would want to sit there. The front part of the restaurant was occupied as well as the booth along the corridor, so I had to go sit at a very small table around the corner next to the bathroom. The menu has a lot of food options, and there are definitely options for vegetarians. They range from common appetizers to seafood and soups to Oaxacan specialties such as mole and quesadillas with Oaxacan cheese. I was super excited to try this place based on what I saw on social media and was quite hungry. Despite the place being small, it had a very busy and bustling kitchen, you could hear the activity in the kitchen, such as pots and pans, and the fryer being used. The places decorated in Mexican decor and is actually quite cute. I ordered chicken mole Oaxacan-style, which means the mole was very dark almost black. My plate came with refried beans and some cheese as well as Mexican rice. It also included flour or corn tortillas, the corn tortillas I was told were made on site so I opted for those. I ordered Jamaica but the server accidentally brought me cucumber and lime. I had a tiny sip of the cucumber and lime beverage and it was very sweet and did not taste like cucumber or lime. When I reminded the server that I ordered, hi Mika, she brought it over immediately and was very nice about it the Jamaica was better tasting. The server brought over chips and salsa. The salsa was was not thick and it was almost as if they added water to make it stretch a bit. The chips were nothing special, they like salt and they were starting to go stale. I was super excited when I got my food. It was nice and hot. The mole was tasty but not as tasty as I've had at other places and it seemed like they just put more sauce on top of a boiled chicken thigh. I am used to the chicken being cooked with the mole sauce so that it integrates with the sauce or it is served shredded and then integrated into the sauce. The rice did not seem fresh to me, it was tasty but dry like when you reheat it. The beans were OK, there was nothing special about them. While the tortillas did appear to be made by hand, I don't think they were freshly pressed and made right as I ordered my meal, even though it took a moment to get my food. The tortillas probably were made before and reheated therefore, they got cold quickly and were dry. I hope to go back and try the enchiladas and maybe the experience will be different or perhaps I can go on a day when the rice is freshly made and the tortillas are hot off the press. But today was not that day. Enjoy! PS. I forgot to add that my mole dish was rather pricey coming in at $18. Also, the restaurant charges $.75 as a service fee, I did not ask what it was for... But I will say it was not advertised anywhere at the front desk or on the menu that you would be charged a service fee. Overall, with tax, service fee and tip my meal was just under $32. read more

Went in to try their traditional Oaxaca enchiladas because I heard good things about it. The mole didn't disappoint, it had good flavor but it was a bit too sweet for my liking. The atmosphere was cute and cozy, the place is fairly small but also offers outside seating. The aguas frescas were delicious, highly recommend the pineapple agua fresca. Be prepared to wait longer than usual for food. I had seen an Instagram reel of a woman raving about how delicious the food was here so I decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is chill, the decor is big, but maybe it looks like that because it is a small resturant. I couldn't decide what to order so I asked our server for suggestions. I forgot what the name of the item was but, I can't believe it took forever to bring out what I received. Yes my server did tell me the meat was going to be thin but I had no idea it would be thin and dry, with hardly any flavor. The onions and nopales just tasted like they were stirred once or twice in oil, no flavor whatsoever. The rice was pretty good but the beans had nothing special to them just black beans. The salsa it came with was very bland. The tortillas are homemade and actually pretty delicious. I got a fresh water I forgot the name but it was really good. My husband ordered the chilaquiles rojos and omg such a disappointment. He ordered the eggs over easy and they were completely cooked. The salsa just tasted like ground up dried chiles with no spice, no flavor just color. He eneded up taking my fried jalapeño which wasn't even spicy just to add flavor to his food. I will say the pacifico michilada is pretty well made. My husband also ordered cafe de la olla which didn't wow me at all. The prices are sorta high for the quality of flavor you will receive. The mole is what I really wanted to try since they did say it was a favorite. I ordered one taco de mole which had more rice than mole itself and must I say it is very uninspiring. Everyone has different taste buds but this is my review on this place. Btw you would think they would offer free refills on chips and salsa because they take forever and a half to bring out your food, but they don't. The exact words were "the first chips and salsa are free, more will have to be payed for". They must get a lot of customers asking for the tapatio that they are running out but when my husband asked for it they brought out and almost empty bottle. read more

This is such a hidden gem with delicious homemade Oaxacan food and inviting atmosphere in downtown Bakersfield. Parking: there is a parking garage that charged us $5 to park on a Saturday. There is free parking on the street nearby as well. Location: it's on the corner across from 18hundred and located a few doors down some barber shops. They have indoor and outdoor seating options, restrooms available on site. Food was delicious, plenty of food for the price, everything made fresh to order. I recommend ordering an appetizer as you wait because the food can take a little long but that's because you get homemade delicious food that is worth the wait. I do wish their salsa was a little spicier but it was good because it wasn't overpowering the food. They have some good options you can make vegetarian by asking for no meat. They have a brunch menu as well, aguas frescas, Jarritos, cafe de olla, mimosas and soda. Service was excellent with our server being attentive to when we needed something, and patient as we looked over the menu and asked questions. read more

This place was soooo delicious! Looking for easy Mexican food downtown we found this. It used to be Las Salsas. What an upgrade from the previous restaurants food. The rice and beans are so good. Such fluffy perfect rice. Tacos delicious. Now, the mole enchiladas. WOW! I can't wait to have them again. Perfect spice and sweetness. Delicious and perfectly rich. The cóctel de camarón was bomb. And super delicious, I don't know what kind of meat they used, but I didn't run into any fat or hard pieces it was all super soft, which is always a bonus points for me. Small place , I little bit unattended, food take too long but it looks ok , sadly noticed that one of our dishes was very cold (chilaquiles) I think that made that first and then everything else so by the time everything was ready chilaquiles were so cold and we send it back. Sadly they didn't make a new dish they just throw it at the microwave and bring it back in less than two minutes, so very disappointed, that also included a 3% charge in our check assuming we going to pay with card so they should add it after they see we are going to pay with the credit card .
