The bagels are good but I'm pretty sure the manager/ older lady at the register is racist. She was super sweet to all the white customers and when it was my time to pay she yelled out "what did you order" I said hello "I got a sesame bagel with cream cheese", she proceeded with "3.00", in a rushing tone. I was like "can I also order coffee?" Then she said "iced, hot?" As if she was annoyed by my presence. Right after i paid she said "hey hunny, how are you" to the white man behind me. After an almost 2 hour wait, yes 2 hours, both bagels turn up, not toasted and in fact one was just a bagel, nothing on it. Just a stale, cold, raw bagel. Im giving it a two star because i like some of the workers there and i never write reviews ever but today i opened an account to do this because i just couldnt let it go, i go in and i order 2 everything bagels one with egg n cheese one turkey bacon egg n cheese and what im assuming is the owner tells me its 9.50 for a turkey bacon egg n cheese on a everything bagel so i just expressed how its very expensive compared to other places and she immediately had an attitude about it and said "oh your not a business owner so you wouldnt know" and i understand but if a plain eveything bagel is 1.50 that means 1 egg and 2 turkey bacon strips are 8 dollars nut what do i know i am not a business owner ,, i go home open the bag and the order was wrong they gave me a small roll that was crumbling apart which usually means its stale.. now i dont know if she did it on purpose or what but i dont appreciate that. read more

I'd much rather be spending time with my family this Sunday morning, but here I am: writing a review for a bagel place on Yelp because it may be the only way I can contact them. I went in this morning to get 2 bagels with tofu scallion. When I got home I took one bite and knew something was wrong. The tofu spread was sour and bitter and slimy and if I had eaten it there is no doubt I would be very sick. I walked back the 15 minutes to return it and the woman behind the counter (with a black hat with a rose on it) could not have cared less. After I explained to her that the spread was not edible she disappeared to the back for 3 minutes and when she returned she handed me a $10 bill and said "just so you know, the spread works". I wasn't sure what 'it works' means so I asked and she straight up ignored me. Cold eyes. Turned right past me to help someone else. I couldn't get her to look at me. I wasn't going there to complain, I was going to share with them a legitimate health concern. I couldn't believe it so I just walked out. I gave her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she was nervous and didn't know how to handle the situation. That's okay, I thought I would just call later to speak to a manager. Well, good luck getting them to answer the phone. Maybe this Yelp review will reach them and they can fix some of these issues. Not for me, as this was the 3rd time I got food from there that was spoiled, but for everyone else. If you want a good bagel and better service, go to Sunset Bagels. read more

Really nice bagels! It's a very busy morning spot with a varied selection of bagels. We love the chimichurri bagel. Very juicy. They have a variety of morning options like all types of eggs. The only slight down side is that at times the bagels are not toasty looking as if they were in a hurry to produce and forgetting quality. Also, the lady at the cashier is slightly too aggressive with her staff. They are more efficient when she is not there ;) read more

There is something wrong with the bagels here--they are dense like a rock and the middle pulls away from the edge. Have read the reviews but it being the closest bagel shop to me, I'll occasionally come in a pinch if i don't pick up bagels from Windsor Terrace or Park Slope, but I always try to come in and out and avoid the owner. Owner by all accounts is abrasive, rude and prejudiced/lack of education (good experiences reserved for white/white passing, which I am not) and doesn't care about the customers and unfortunately today I experienced this first hand; she told me after the cashier took my $20 and didn't give me my $16 change and then questioned me even after finding the $20 i gave her in the wrong money slot--why do i come back? she's so right--not coming back. DO NOT BUY HERE! SHADY STAFF: Get your food from anywhere else. On Jan 23rd, I came to this shop after ordering food on an app called TooGoodtoGo. It was going as usual until the counter person, a white woman with brown/red hair asks to see a number from the app. I'm thinking she means a generated code from the app(which it does produce) so I pull out my phone to show her. She suddenly snatches the phone from my hands, pressed buttons on my phone for 3-5 seconds and gave it back to me as if nothing happened. After she gave it back,I saw my phone was on my home screen and not within the app. It wasn't until after I left that I realized how egregious this was and the store was closed before I could come back. She could've done anything to my phone and now Im worried that my phone is hacked and insecure. I will be going to the store on jan 24th to speak to a manager and will delete/update this post after I get results. but in the mean time, please do not buy here. I really felt technologically vulnerable and its not worth the food they have to feel this way. read more

I have been coming here many times but today i had very bad experience. The owner/manager whoever was at the register was rushing me and did not even try to listen to my orders and just guessing herself and charged me. I tried to explain again so that i was charge the right amount but still she ignored me and said its same. She was so rude and racists. Was craving lox, stumbled upon this place, highly recommend if you are a lox fan! Cortelyou Lox (homemade lox, cream cheese, capers, minced red onion, tomato and lemon on a bagel). Bagel itself was super fresh and soft! Very happy finding this place! read more

I'm actually shocked at how awful the service is. I understand they are busy but they can still be respectful. I stood in line and waited to place my order the workers behind the back did not acknowledge me, I said "hello", "excuse me", "id like to put in an order", no one would even look at me, at that point I was like um okay this is strange. I then go up to the counter and say hi id like to put in my order and she says you order at the counter and I said I know I tried to and before I could even finish my sentence she dismissed me with a loud "NEXT". Honestly thats not how you treat customers, she didn't even let me speak before she moved on. I will never come back here again, the bagels aren't that good and are overpriced this interaction was really the nail in the coffin for me. read more

But the fact that you can't get a bagel prepared the way you like or even an attempt at courtesy from staff make this place one of the worst establishments. Horrible experience!! I ordered oat milk latte , she started with regular milk. After correcting she started to frost oat milk without even cleaning the froster. Watching all that I asked for canceling order and "manager" got really nasty. She started yelling with her mask all the way down to her chin chewing some food. I never write reviews, but the front counter person, who certainly walk around the place like she owns it, a short white woman with red/brown hair is the rudest individual I've possibly ever encountered in my nearly forty years on this planet. She's been rude to me a bunch of times, but I'll just share today's incident. I was asking her for a bag for my order and she refused to acknowledge me and blamed on me wearing a mask. I had to repeat myself five times and shout before she would respond. Once she did acknowledge me she started taking the next person's order before she stopped because they weren't decided yet and took her sweet time coming over to give me a bag. She plopped it on the counter and rudely said "HERE" with the fakest smile I've ever seen. She kept repeating "take your mask off and TALK" while responding to the things I was saying. Clearly she could hear me. I'm disabled with a condition that puts me at high risk for Long COVID. As others have stated she also makes up the prices in her head, changes it based on the day and how she feels about you in that moment. Now I come here to read she's racist to others and demeaning to her staff. Absolutely done with this establishment and I hope she goes out of business quickly. Someone who treats her community members this way doesn't deserve our money. read more

I should of listened the the reviews and saved my time going there. I was looking for a new bagel place and decided to give this a try. When I walked in it was empty and I waited at the counter to be served. An Indian woman looked right past me and asked the Caucasian women (I am a women of color) who walked in right after me "Who's next, how can I help you?"There was no way she did not see me and that's what I responded "I am!" That obviously didn't sit well with her by the look on on her face but she had no choice but to serve me. I gave her my order and she had such a nasty attitude. Not only did she have an attitude but she put the bagels in a bag and left if on the counter open, without closing it. I grabbed the bag and said "we'll I won't be returning here. I can't accuse her of being racist but it sure did come off the way. The rudeness echoed throughout the reviews on Yelp are all true about this business. Let me just preface this review with the following: I have very high standards when it comes to bagels. Since moving from the Upper West Side in April I was adamant on not buying bagels for a weekend breakfast. As someone who was blessed with Absolute Bagels (probably the best bagels in NYC), I just knew any other bagel place would not rise to the challenge. However, I had a huge craving this past weekend and didn't feel like traveling over an hour just for a bagel. Luckily, Catskill Bagel's is a perfectly suitable bagel shop just minutes away from my apartment. Before talking about the bagels, I wanted to cover off on the service since that seems to be a hot topic here. I'm not really sure where all the negativity is coming from. I had perfectly good service and everyone who I interacted with was very nice! If you're hesitant to come here because you think the service will be bad, don't listen to the other reviews because this isn't an issue. Now, the bagels. As I prefaced, I have high expectations with bagels. While the bagel I had was good, there just seemed to be something that wasn't hitting the spot for me. I don't know if they press the bagels while toasting but it didn't seem like a fluffy bagel that I'm accustomed to, and it was toasted all around which made it a little crispier than I like. I would say the bagel was fine (it's bread for crying out loud) but it wasn't made to my liking. Great to satisfy a craving, but I wouldn't run around town telling people how much I loved it like I used to when I lived uptown. I was also a little disappointed in the lack of cream cheese selection. I'm used to bagel shops having every flavor under the sun, but from what I could tell I could only choose from plain, scallion, or veggie. It'd be awesome if they served other types of cream cheese like bacon/cheddar, sun dried tomato, or even a berry flavored cream cheese! While I can't confirm, I have a feeling their other breakfast items are probably awesome. If you don't want a bagel, they have a lot of other pastries and also serve eggs, sandwiches, salads and other types of food. Catskill Bagels is good for a quick bagel trip and if I'm desperately in need of some carbs on a Saturday morning. read more

You can't go to New York and not get a bagel. We popped in here for some bagels early in the morning on a Monday. It wasn't very busy. I was able to walk right up to the counter and order two bagels. I asked that they both be toasted with veggie and scallion cream cheese. I got an onion bagel and my friend got an everything bagel. We walked them back to my friend's apartment. Turns out neither was toasted. But the bagel was full of flavor and was very soft. Service was swift. read more

I really like catskill bagels. Don't like the workflow, theres a random line to order then u go to register where they ask u what you ordered. It would be fine but the cashier keeps asking like they don't believe u and I say get the guy who took my order to confirm. Acted like I was scamming them for a bagel...not cool...and they charge a surcharge for credit card...which is noted on a index card with all the clutter at the register...so not really in your face...but not a big deal. Been in there a few times. Every time I try to like this place reality happens. They have a decent selection of cold drinks, nothing else after that I have to say is positive. Starting with a low quality bagel and an easily perturbed staff. First the bagels are of a poor quality they just don't taste good, try one yourself. If you ask for a bagel with butter you don't get butter you get the most repulsive off-white pasty grease, has to be the cheapest they can get. After I said "good morning , may I have an everything bagel with butter not toasted?" $3.00. I then asked if they use butter, a butter blend or some other vegetable shortening margarine style butter substitute. Instant anger for asking from the staff. Coffee is never great, it's bad to worse. I've tried the place a few times, never again. Many agree especially about the angry staff. Try the bagels at APPLE TREE GOURMET on Newkirk Plaza if you want a tasty bagel with real butter from a staff that treats you respectfully. read more

I have been a customer of this bagel shop for years. More recently I have been ordering over the phone for delivery. I am waiting for an order right now. I looked at the yelp reviews out of curiosity. I noticed a tremendous amount of negative reviews. Almost an unnatural amount of them. Complaints about the quality of the bagels, food quality, complaints about staff etc. I am not sure why the negative reviews but again it is interesting that there are so many negative ones. It almost feels deliberate. The bagels, salads, coffee, chili, sandwiches, and soups are excellent and I find the staff very nice and helpful. Everyone should judge for themselves. i really wish this place was good. it's cute on the outside, and would be the perfect local bagel place as it's situated right in the middle of courtelyou. i got a plain bagel with egg, cheese and scallion cream cheese, which is a delicious combo when assembled right. the cream cheese was overflowing and basically made it impossible to eat. the egg and cheese both tasted fake and waxy. the bagel tasted like it came from the supermarket. i could get a better bfast sandwich at the airport. i honestly might try this place again in a few months - as i'm always desperate for a bagel sandwich and routing for them to improve! read more

They tend to be stingy with ice for the iced drink machines. I have often seen flies and tables not clean.
