Sunday lunch I decided to try CAVA because I had heard nice things about this place and as a Yelp Elite was offered the opportunity to try a bowl. The prices are really reasonable. My bowl came to around $9.00 and it was plenty for 2 people or 2 meals. Wow. I didn't know what to expect when I walked in but this place but it is like an upscale Chipotle where you order and build your items. The restaurant itself is warm and inviting with really nice outside seating. Now for the bowl. I ordered the bowl with mixed greens,brown rice,feta.Harissa Red Pepper hummus,tomato, onion,Kalamata olives, roasted vegetables and a yogurt dill dressing. I don't know how that combo worked but the freshness of the items and the robust spices and flavors combined for the best bowl ever. Hype or not? First impressions, the parking lot was super crowded. The end of the line was at the door. It actually felt like I was at a top of the line nursing home visiting a grandma. Every elderly person in Short Pump was here. When I saw the menu, I started questioning myself for coming. Yet, Cava took the time to send out a free meal to have people in the nearby neighborhoods try them. Personally, I'm not overly pleased with the menu like I'd thought I be based upon some who've been here. I was told that Cava is upscale version of their competitor down the street. I purchased a grain bowl. I skipped the greens due to the most recent recall of lettuce. I opted for brown rice rather than the white steamed rice. I wasn't pleased with the limited humus selection so I skipped that. I added grilled chicken and roasted vegetables half and half, as well as feta, tomato and cucumber mix and Greek vinaigrette. The brussel sprouts were overly roasted as they were charred very black. The grilled chicken doesn't have an awesome flavor. For a free meal, they're meh...okay. The staff were friendly. I wouldn't recommend this place for children. At this point, I can't say they're better than their competition. read more

Wow, I had my doubts about this place but I was blown away. Came here for lunch one day and oh my goodness, this is a new favorite spot. I got a bowl with greens and grains and I added basically all I could fit into the bowl, including braised beef and seasonal vegetables. They used unique ones such as brussel sprouts and sweet potato - which I loved to add an additional punch of nutrition. Highly recommend loading up with SAUCES! So many to choose from. Yes! So good. Very similar to Mezeh. Interesting that they're so close in proximity. If you haven't been to Mezeh then this is a sort of assembly line, Chipotle type deal, with Mediterranean food. I chose a grain + greens bowl and went with the saffron bismati rice and superfood greens. You have a choice of 3 spreads/dips and then 1 protein + a handful of toppings. I went with the braised beef and man was it delicious! I went with the spicy apricot as suggested as one of the girls working and it was really good. My husband also tried some of their juices! The basil limeade and watermelon were both really good and perfectly refreshing for summer. We will definitely be back. read more

Stopped by CAVA to use my free meal coupon before it expires on 3/31/18. It was a little crowded but the line moved quickly. The service was top notch. It was my first time at CAVA and I was offered to taste test items. The item selection was were also explained to me and the many options: salad, pita, bowl. There are multiple items to choose from to meet everyone's dietary restrictions. I don't eat meat and I enjoyed having high protein options like lentils and falafel. Food is really tasty, though the topping options are limited compared to nearby Mezeh. You have the option of a bowl or a pita (or mini pitas). Bowls come with a salad base, grain base (rice/quinoa), or a combo of both. I like that there is a selection of greens, including two "superfood" mixes that include shredded brussel sprouts and chickory. It's a nice change from just argula, spinach, or lettuce. I do prefer the protein options at Cava v Mezeh, though it's disappointing that the seasonal roasted veggies are considered a "protein" instead of a topping. I usually go half veggies, half other protein (the grilled meatballs are my favorite). I miss toppings like roasted beets, pickled turnips, and eggplant that Mezeh offers. Combine the toppings bar at Mezeh with the proteins/grains/greens of Cava, and you'd have my perfect Medi Chipotle. Best part of Cava is the pita chips. They're the perfect mix of crunchy and soft, and the seasoning is awesome. I recommend getting a side of the yogurt dill dressing to dip the pita chips in. Was bordering 3/4 based on a couple things but 4/5 based on taste. Taste: Loved my bowl. Honestly probably couldn't tell you what I got because I was a little overwhelmed with the options (more on that later) but the result was delicious. Fresh greens (I got half romaine half baby spinach) delicious proteins (have lamb meatballs and half chicken) and then a myriad of toppings. I for sure remember the roasted red pepper hummus, taziki, and the spicy feta (can't remember what they call it but very good). Also some cucumbers, and quinoa and roasted fall vegetables. All quite good but the lamb meatballs were exceptionally good. Also you get warm pita. All and all based on food I say definitely give it a try and I'll for sure be back. The other: I felt pretty rushed by the line ordering. I also feel like this at other similar places (Chipotle, Blaze Pizza) but even a little more so here. Maybe it's because it was my first time and because there are so many options. Also, the way they assemble the bowls is beautiful (see picture) but it doesn't mix well. So I had a small portion of roasted red pepper hummus, but was isolated. Same with the other toppings. I tried to mix as well as I could and it worked, but almost would be better if they somehow combined it. Also outside seating is awesome! read more

I love Cava! They have fresh, healthy and delicious food items. I was there tonight meeting with a group of women from my church. We arrived at 6:30 and ordered our meals. We chose a back table and after we ate we proceeded to wrap up our group study that we have been working on. What we did not realize was that Cava actually closed at 7:00. The employees were so great and kind - they gave us until 7:45 and then an employee approached us so kindly and mentioned that they were closed and asked if we could get ready to leave because it was past closing time. We apologized because we didn't realize that they had closed. I just wanted to recognize this location because not only was our food delicious but the employee/customer service response was cordial and respectful. Thank you!!! read more

Went here for a first visit exactly 48hrs after our first visit to Mezeh. So, comparatively, there is nothing really wrong with Cava... but Mezeh is better in a bunch of small ways. Considering how close they are, I see no reason to return to Cava but we'll go back to Mezeh next week. Tonight we walked into Cava and noticed dirty tables everywhere. We waited at an empty counter for one dude to help us, but he kept walking away. Once we got him he was however plenty quick and efficient. He handled the entire process with ease, but shouldn't they have several people working various stations? This was at like 7:15pm on a Thursday. Anyway, the food was ok, not as bold or flavorful as Mezeh. Also, more dry - and smaller portions of everything for the same amount of money. Their ice machine was broken so we had room temperature water. Did I mention the tables were filthy? In sum, there was nothing empirically wrong with Cava (apart from the dirty tables) but Mezeh had a better decor and more flavorful food with somewhat larger portions. read more

Cava is a nice casual Mediterranean build your own meal restaurant. I came here with my sister for a weekday lunch and it was a pleasant spot for a nice sit-down meal. I ordered the grain and green bowl which was the mixture of rice and romaine topped with chicken and meatballs. I added a few toppings and the yellow pepper tahini dressing, with hummus and tzatziki. The bowl was delicious but I felt a little overpriced. The slightly sweet green tea was amazing. The restaurant is very open and the staff were extremely friendly. Everything tasted fresh and the meal overall was really light on my stomach. My total came to about $15 and for a build your own bowl cafeteria style place I felt like it was really expensive for a lunch meal. I'll definitely be back but I don't see Cava being in my rotation of lunch spots. read more

First time here, got the chicken pita. Chicken was seasoned and grilled well. I wanted the lentil spicy soup, but it was dried out so I changed my mind on the soup and only got the chicken pita wrap. Very filling grains & greens bowl! I really enjoy the apple cider with sage, perfect for this time of year. Also digging the outdoor seating option, with tables for 4 or 2. Cava is very chipotle-esque in terms of restaurant style, but I really appreciate being able to choose from a nice selection of greens (&mix, which is what I did- spinach & power greens). I liked the beef meatballs, which were hearty and filling, and the pickled onion is always nice. Especially enjoying the fresh mint. Tried the (blackberry?) shrub drink, which was ok. I prefer the sage cider, or the cucumber mint drink, which was super light & refreshing. Bottom line, great place for a fast casual meal with healthy, tasty, well-flavored options. read more

I am so thrilled that they finally opened a Cava at Short Pump. I came on a busy Sunday with my mom and grandmother who had never been to Cava before. The staff was incredibly helpful in explaining everything to both of them and helping my grandmother choose gluten-free options, as she is celiac. This Cava has a nice little patio outside and even though it was quite hot out, the fans made it very pleasant to sit there. It's also a major plus that the patio is dog friendly. I have been to CAVA once before and wasn't a fan. I usually go to mezeh when I'm craving Mediterranean cuisine, but my girlfriend swore that CAVA was better so I decided to give it a second chance. As far as the service goes, the ladies that were working behind the counter here were awesome and extremely nice and helpful (the reason for the extra star). Sadly the food was extremely underwhelming. The chicken here is diced and basically tastes the same as chipotle chicken which isn't terrible, but it it didn't taste Mediterranean. Their spicy lamb kafta tasted like they dunked it in lemon juice or something and was weirdly sour. Their choices of toppings are very limited and they don't have nearly the amount of toppings at mezeh. I really wish the food tasted better because the restaurant is gorgeous and clean and the staff is amazing, but I don't think I'll be going to CAVA again. read more

While out running errands, we wanted to catch a late lunch/early dinner, and at the last minute decided to try Cava. Glad we did. Fortunately, it was not real busy, so the young lady behind the food prep walk us through the entire selection process of what you want, and what you want on it. We both had the grain & green bowl, and they'll load it up with all kinds of veggies, spices and a couple proteins. It was really, really good. And surprisingly filling. For my meal I get the greens & grains, the greens are a variety of romaine, spinach, super greens, splendid greens, the have a description of what the super & splendid consist of. I've ordered from this location 13 times in the past few months, and my order has been missing the extra protein that I've paid for 7 times now. The fact that it is clearly notated on the reciept attached to the bag makes it all the more frustrating that my order has been wrong over 50% of the times that I've ordered from this location. I also frequently order from the Huguenot Road location which is near where I work, and they have never once made a single mistake with any of my orders. I always order delivery, and the only way to get my order corrected is for me to come in and pick it up. I work in healthcare and due to Covid-19, for the staff's safety, I do not want to come in to pick up my order. The food here is delicious and I absolutely love it, but unfortunately the error rate is exhaustingly frustrating. read more

I was absolutely blown away by CAVA! I never thought I would be one to be raving about a salad but it really is THAT. GOOD. I placed an online order for lunch and I loved the ease of ordering, every choice had an accompanying picture so you can really get a sense of what you're ordering. (Cause we all know you eat with your eyes first!) I got the spicy lamb meatballs on top of supergreens with tzatziki, crazy feta, and a whole bunch of other yummy toppings. It was amazing and all my coworkers came over to remark how gorgeous my salad was! When I went to pick up my order, it wasn't completely ready, so the gentleman offered me a complimentary drink for my wait (even though it was only literally 30 seconds after that!). Customer service is huge for me and I really appreciated that gesture. I ended up trying their Chai Spiced Green Tea and it was sooo friggin good! They also have some more adventurous libations including some type of beet and lemon drink. It was a gorgeous color but I'm not super fond of beets. All of their sodas had organic cane sugar, and I believe they are all made by CAVA? Either way, I want to come back and try everything. :) read more

"Woah." This was my exact thought as I took my first bites into my first Grain bowl and Mezze. I was floored. This is like Chipotle, but for mediterranean food and MORE toppings. What could go wrong? Absolutely nothing. 1) Food: So, so savory. I was shocked honestly. I had low expectations for a chain restaurant like this near a mall. But I was starving while running errands and thought I would just stop in. You pick whether you want a salad, rice, or grain bowl and then choose your toppings, dressings, and hummus. I highly suggest the Crazy Feta! I also got the Mezze on the side which are pita chips with three dips on the side (Definitely Mediterranean Chipotle). 2) Price: The price is a bit lofty, but you do get a heaping amount of food. I had to finish the other half of my bowl the next day. But I would say it was worth it. 3) Service: the attendants are super helpful, even for you first-timers! They are knowledgeable and help you through the assembly line and give you pointers to make your bowl the best it can be! read more

My wife and I was excited about this new establishment in short pump but the food quality was really disappointing on our first and only visit. I usually get the lamb but Mezeh's lamb is definitely much better. My wife is vegan and she prefers Mezeh's topping selections plus since she usually opts for no protein the portion sizes they serve for the toppings become very important. Mezeh is always very generous with their meat and toppings/salads whereas the bowl we got from CAVA was really only half filled. bottom line: we will always choose Mezeh over CAVA unless they dramatically improve their food quality / variety / services. It's similar to Chipotle where working down the line you pick what style you want, then what protein you want, then toppings, etc. Quality of food was very good, service was ok and choice of uniquely blended juices was excellent. Love this addition to the short pump area. I had avoided visiting the VCU location just based on parking availability, but the wait to try Cava was worth it after all. Usually spend about $25 for two lunches and drinks, but the portions are large and worth it. Cava is big, spacious, and delicious! It is similar to Chipotle in the way you order, but a bit pricier. I tried the greens and grains bowl with falafel and it was great! The falafel was a bit different than others I've had because it had whole pieces of chickpea, which was a pleasant surprise. I was super excited to try their dips - I had the eggplant and red pepper (YUM!), tzatziki (great!), and crazy feta (good!).
