    Pistachio baklava
    Sarah S.

I was very excited to come into this Mediterranean bakery/deli after having a chicken meat pie at an event. I came in around 6pm, most of the hot dishes had already been bought up but I was able to get a spinach hand pie and three pieces of pistachio baklava. The spinach pie was even better than the chicken I had previously had, moist and flavorful with a little kick on the back and. The baklava was the star of the show and keeps me coming back to this market. In another visit there was no hot food items but I was able to pick up some pickles, hot peppers from Palestine, markuk bread and of course more baklava. The staff are always incredibly friendly. This market offers a wide variety of items, deli/ cold prepared items, frozen items, canned/jarred pantry items, spices and more! Love this place!!

Wow! Just wow! Good wows! Randomly discovered the building when I had to turn around. I googled it and saw the great reviews and figured I'd get some goodies to take home. I got walnut baklava for the family, and a spinach and feta fatayer for me and my spouse. Both were amazing. I had to go back because everything smelled so good. Even my little one kept saying "mmmm" at the aromas. We shared their last chicken musakhan roll - holy expletive! I've honestly never tasted something like it; the spices and flavors, I could have eaten at least 5 more. We also got a few falafel to go with a side of their tahini, both delicious. Then I woke up craving the musakhan roll the next day. We went back and they were out of them, so we tried the musakhan pizza. Same deliciousness, just a little tricky to cut and share. We also enjoyed this chicken and rice dish (I have no idea what it's called), and it was great, too. Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the attitude of one of the employees working the register. We interacted with her on two occasions and it was uncomfortable. Not sure if a bad mood or what, but quite the contrast to the other amazing and helpful women who helped us, one of whom even said she'd make me musakhan rolls herself if I call ahead. Overall, definitely recommend for take out. You and your tastebuds will be so happy!

    These desserts look amazing!!

Just wow... I was hankering for a falafel and the Balkan spot I usually go to was closed. So Yelp helped me find this little Mediterranean Bakery! I've passed it for years on my way to work. From the outside, it doesn't look like much... it's unassuming, the building is nondescript and so I just drive by. Well, let me just tell you that you can't judge a place by the facade... I walked in to a colorful, bustling, aromatic haven of cultural delight! Yes, there's an amazing bakery case with "bawklawa", bird's nest, cashew burma, Greek cookies, mamoul dates with walnut or pistachio and so much more! There's an impressive prepared foods case, a cheese and dairy case, a deli, a meat case - all full of gorgeous kebabs, tzatziki, tabouli, eggplant, Mediterranean pizza, grapes leaves, lamb shawarma, feta and others cheeses, baba ghanouj and of course hummus! And so many other incredible foods, it'll blow you away and you won't "falafel" (feel awful) afterwards ... insert pun groan here! It's a healthy alternative to fast food! I had the falafel and it was amazing! The cucumber and yogurt sauce was outrageously flavorful and the price was spot on! Get one!! I sat in the little restaurant in the back, devouring my sandwich, reading a book, and enjoyed listening to the languages of this fascinating culture (and I'm not just talking yogurt!) I was excited to shop in the mini market behind the seating area and purchase some teas and tea biscuits, sesame candies, spices and some Mediterranean coffee for the hubster! Thank you Yelp for leading me to this hideaway! I have a feeling this will be a regular spot for me from now on!

    Yummy Goodness!!

This is hands down the very best Mediterranean food I have eaten anywhere in Virginia. I will beat down whomever disagrees ! I have not tasted Kibe prepared so close to my mom's that it brought tears to my eyes. Everything was freshly made and delectable. The beauty of eating many of their dishes, is that they are not bad for you. We're so addicted to the food that I have given up taco's for a few days while I nom nom Mediterranean/middle eastern cuisine. Don't sleep on the Med Bakery! I regret not going sooner!

Another hidden gem found through Yelp! I am by no means an expert on Mediterranean food and was almost overwhelmed with options walking in the door. I love the family/local vibe and service was fast and friendly. The chicken shawarma was delicious and well balanced with the right proportions of sauce, veggies and chicken. The sides were even more stellar with some of the best pita chips I've ever had (light, crispy, and flavorful) and flaky, gooey, decadent baklava. Next time you are in the area, drive past Cook Out and Chipotle and have a travel by food experience at Mediterranean Bakery!

The menu had lots of exciting brunch dishes, appetizers, salads, soups and deli section as well. There were plenty of cocktails, beer and wines choices available too. Prices were decent. I picked the Jewish Sailor that was a combo of toast with pastrami and beef sausage with red onion and mustard. When the dish came, it looked so scrumptious. Loved the flavor of the pastrami, the crunchy sausages, crispy toast bread, coleslaw all of it. I also got to try the pierogis that were delicious as well. The service was good overall. Our waitress was attentive, while managing several tables at the same time. The dishes came out quickly despite being busy. Overall the experience lived up to the expectations.

Not much flavor. Kids chicken strips were a chicken patty that was overcooked and cut up. Also came out lukewarm at best. The Rueben was soggy and had about three slices of meat on it. Very little sauce on the sandwich no and was charged for extra when I asked for more. Added the Parmesan truffle fries which were powered Parmesan with some truffle oil sprinkled on top. Again all lukewarm. The Timberwolf burger had maybe two jalapeño's on it and the onions were burnt. The regular burgers and kids are the same size. Housemade pickles were soggy and the cucumber skins were tough. The quality of food from when we had eaten here a couple years ago was subpar in comparison. If you are going to charge for upscale items then they need to be upscale in the quality of what you are serving. Will not be back.

Our server was Braxton, a delightful young lady. She was witty and a diligent server and all the things...and she did not steer us wrong when it came to the food. My husband and I both had a taste for ordering an Italian sub and Braxton said we would not be sorry if we ordered it, and we were not. I was literally moaning with almost every bite. I am a potato salad connoisseur. I will not eat it unless it is freshly made. I don't do any of the grocery store type of potato salads. (Gross!) I asked Braxton about it and she said that in general, she doesn't even like potato salad, but at this restaurant, she absolutely loves it and highly recommends it. Knowing it is freshly made on site, plus her recommendation, I decided to try it. Oh my word! This potato salad is straight from the portals of heaven. Sooooooo good. This might not seem like a big deal, but it's a very big deal to me. I like freshly brewed tea. Nothing bottled. Nothing out of a soda machine. (Disgusting!) I asked Braxton if the tea was actually brewed there and she said yes. Tea is not the same everywhere. Sometimes it's so weak, you don't even realize it's tea. Not here! It was perfect. This makes a huge difference to me as when my beverage is perfect, I enjoy my meal a lot more. The entire meal was top notch. The service was absolutely excellent. We loved having Braxton and would ask for her again. A DJ was setting up as we were eating. We walked in to find the staff bustling, cooking, and prepping orders, and the smell of some delicious fried chicken in the air. I saw the kiosks and was not too thrilled with the Wawa experience, but we gave it a shot anyway, since fried chicken is one of our favorites. The process was simple and allowed us to add or remove anything we could want, so that was nice. While walking to find a seat, we saw a person panhandling in the dining area, but the staff promptly removed him from the premises. I ordered us the Pimento Cheese Balls for an appetizer, and I chose the Fried Chicken and French Toast as my entree because I always try the "chicken and waffles" at every establishment that offers it. My partner ordered the OG Chicken Sandwich without tomato, and it came with crinkle-cut fries. It was about $40. The chef proclaimed our order was ready in quick succession, maybe three orders behind the guests before us. We waited about ten minutes, maybe fifteen at most. We picked up the orders from the counter, and there was a mix-up on the syrup, but the chef promptly rectified the situation. He was a no-nonsense kind of guy; straight to the point. He seemed firm, yet kind. It was clear the day had been a busy one; he even told us as much, which was great to hear (busy = fantastic food). The French toast squares looked like rye or pumpernickel, and they emitted a sweet aroma, a delightful hit of cinnamon and brown sugar. I drizzled the caramel syrup on my chicken and toast, sliced a piece, and paired a bite of chicken with the toast. I closed my eyes to savor the flavors: the toast was crunchy and almost gooey (yet, not overly so), the chicken was crunchy, the sweet cinnamon-y flavors from the toast, the caramel from the syrup, and the tender, moist chicken were a match made in culinary art. I cannot sufficiently describe the French toast in a way that would do it justice; it was crunchy and semi-gooey, and all scrumptious. I can only say it was the single best French toast that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Next, I tried the fried pimento cheese balls. Oh my. If you like mozzarella sticks, try these. I adored them: elevated fried cheese, for real. My partner enjoyed her sandwich as well; she ate everything except some of her fries. I saved half of my chicken and toast for today because I am like a treasure golem when it comes to delicious leftovers. I am going to air-fry the chicken and skillet-heat the toast back to its original goodness. I told the cooks that that was the best French toast that I have ever had, and I mean it. Do yourself a favor and try it if you're into French toast. This one is the GOAT. Side note: I spoke with the head chef outside, and he is from another branch (possibly Henrico?) to whip this location back into shape. Two words: "Nailed it."
