Half dozen oysters, caprese and French martini
    Denise M.

Half dozen oysters were fresh and tasty. Caprese appetizer was also amazing. My French martini was on point. I ordered chicken parm (not in the photo). It came with 2 small pieces of breaded chicken breast. One piece was rubbery in texture. The other piece was softer. I wasn't impressed with the pasta because of this. But appetizers and drinks were great. Finished off with an espresso martini. Will be back to try different items from the menu. Service was great. The ambiance was really nice- classy and good choice for a date night.

    Mussels and oysters!

This was my second time at Cavaleiros's! Once again the food was amazing! You are welcomed and greeted by the owners /family . restaurant! Newly renovated and pleasant and friendly atmosphere! Filet minion is served on a hot stone and the steak on a stick comes out on an elegant serving tray/ dish (tall)! I highly rethink restaurant.

After spending my day in Lowell, I had dinner at Cavaleiro's Restaurant which serves up authentic Portuguese cuisine, dine-in or takeout. I knew the place was on the pricier side, but I felt I earned it! The casual upscale atmosphere is nice with a fully stocked bar area and a dining room with hardwood floors, decorative artwork and colorful plates on the walls. The dining room is a bit crowded with tables situated close together. Candlelight at each table. When I arrived here, there were several older couples in groups already enjoying dinner. I went over the menu which offers authentic Portuguese specialties including filet mignon, fish (peixe), chicken, pasta, steak on a stone, sandwiches, and more. See the full menu and prices at http://www.cavaleirosrestaurant.com I was given house water and a basket of Portuguese rolls with butter. For an appetizer, I was going to order just one shrimp dumpling and one cod fish cake to sample, but the waitress did the upsell, try a sampling of those items plus fried shrimp and linguica. I had the Pic-Nic a Casa (House Appetizer Sampler-$9.95), which had 2 cod fish cakes, 2 breaded shrimp, 2 shrimp dumplings, 2 linguica, black olives, and lemon, small bites of food for the price, like tapas, nonetheless all very tasty. The shrimp dumplings and cod fish cakes, both lightly fried were excellent. For dinner, the Peito de Galinha a Chefe ($18.95) was a pretty good tasting dish, nothing fancy though for the price. The dish had thin pieces of fried chicken breast chef style with shrimp, mushrooms, & a savory sauce with a side of yellow rice and a vegetable medley. I skipped dessert and got the check. The service was pretty good, but only at the beginning of the meal. I received my appetizer in 10 minutes and 4 minutes later received my dinner, less than the quoted time of 30 minutes prep time since everything is cooked order. A large family arrived here as I was finishing up my dinner and asked for my check. After that, the service took a dive as the waitress began helping the large family, getting their drink orders and standing over them while they looked over the menu. Meanwhile, I waited and waited for about 10 minutes for the waitress to cash out my check, need to prioritize better, take care of closing out existing diner's checks first, then take care of the next party when I'm all set. Finally, I went to the takeout counter and the manager cashed me out. This situation should not happen at a nice restaurant like this place. While my check was being processed, I checked out the chilled desserts in the glass takeout case looked very good including the poached pears, several cakes, and tiramisu. Overall, I would've given this place 4 stars for the good tasting food at Boston prices and good service at the beginning of dinner, but service at the end fell flat. Sorry for bucking the trend of 4 stars or better on other sites.

    Beautiful inside.

I want so badly to give this 5 stars. They miss the boat on a few simple things. Veggies are frozen. I really hate that. I know it is cheaper and easier but the difference in the taste is HUGE. Dessert looks like it has been sitting around for a bit. I don't think it is made daily by them or a pastry chef. There are a lot of good points... they are a small family owned restaurant. The atmosphere is great. The bar is friendly and very casual. Steak on a Stone is expensive but a unique experience (marred only by the frozen veggies served with a $30 filet). I like it here.. not everything is Portuguese, there is something for everyone's taste. I had the Portuguese steak, served just like my friend's Mom used to make her when we were kids (she was from the Azores) with an egg on top. My daughter had chicken Parm. I will go back, relaxing easy night.

This was supposed to be 16 oz for 33.99, not 8 oz. This was not medium rare!

One of the worst restaurants I've been to in a long time. The place was hardly packed (two other tables besides ours) and the wait for our entire food order took an hour and a half. After I get my 33.99 steak that I asked for medium RARE, I get the picture attached - well done. I told the waitress (Diana) who was more than apologetic but offered nothing in what they could do for me, just an "I'm sorry, I hope you come back and your steak is better next time." Our bill was 98 plus tip for two awful steaks, app and a cocktail. NEVER Again!

"Walk in as strangers, leave as friends."…read more If that's not a saying that makes you want to head there now, then I don't know what is LOL! Obviously, there is more to the new renovated location of La Cantina than this saying but I will say I was pretty impressed when I saw it and knew I had to add it to my review. Let's just say it is pretty accurate. We did leave as friends since we made a few at the bar and then some. Just saying! La Cantina winery in Franklin, MA used to be a small wine bar that offered wine tasting flights and minimal food. BUT, now it is in a stunning new location (not far from their old stomping grounds). Fun Fact: It used to be a Mechanic garage. Well, wait until you see how it has turned from fixing cars to wine making and tasting. YOU HAVE GOT TO COME HERE! Parking is easy with plenty of spots. They have a lot of room at their gorgeous bar, but they also have high tops and tables for families or a large group. And, they host events here too; birthday parties, bridal showers, and anything in between, this place is it. I actually want to hold one of my milestone birthday parties here but well keep the number a secret for now. Service: Alana was our bartender and she was wonderful. Always asking us what we needed and how were doing. You don't get this upscale service any where else. And, when I wanted another sample of something she gave it to me without a fuss. Always with a smile on her face, she was the best. Wine: They have an excellent wine menu to choose from and they offer flights for about $25 pp. Flights are the best way to try multiple wines. I personally loved most of the red wines with Petit Sirah being my favorite. My husband loved their Barbera! I did sample their Sauv Blanc too which was nice but it was too cold to have a full pour. Food: Their menu is great with a ton of options from charcuterie, to tapas and some entrees. I will say some of their items can get expensive but definitely worth it. We started with a few cheeses and prosciutto. Then we ordered one of their popular pizzas called La Cantina. Everything was fresh, made in house with their beautiful pizza oven right smack in the middle of the bar. You have got to see this thing, its huge! Overall: If I could give this place 10 stars I would. We had the best time and we can't wait to go back. Franklin is not far from where we live but still a good 30 minute drive and also not far from the Wrentham outlets. We didn't have to make a reservation for a Sunday afternoon but I bet Saturdays can get pretty busy. I just loved everything about this wine bar and I know you will too! Cheers~

Reservations recommended we were seated at a beautiful table for two right near the bar and started off with a Pinot noir and a cabernet. Both wines were delightful. For appetizers we had the braised lamb crepe and the octopus... Both dishes were delicious, presented well with sauces to die for. Followed by the pasta dish and the duck. These were the best dinners of the year for us. The blending of flavors were fantastic and it was augmented by the owner coming over and talking to us about how the food was prepared. I won't bore you with all the details but the octopus is slow boiled for 5 hours.. complete with wine. Corks it was tender and delicious with the Mediterranean flair. We go out to eat our fair share from high end to diners anywhere. The food is well prepared and delicious... This was the top for the year! From the service to the presentation to the wine to the ambiance, everything is top notch here. I will provide a warning. You will drop a pretty penny if you partake in all the courses, but we thought it was well worth it. Thank you to the staff and ownership. We enjoyed our evening.. a true date night.

So, we finally got to try the chef's table, or "Chef's Whim" as it's officially titled. Eight…read morecourses. In addition to the food, we added the suggested alcohol pairings. I say alcohol because it wasn't all wine but ... since it's a bit of a surprise in terms of what actually appears I'll just leave it at that. However, as to the food ... I'll give a taste, a flavor, a wisp of a whisper of the full culinary adventure. For complete details, see your local sous chef! Here's what we had. In the middle of my photo collage, a blood sausage slider with fennel/jalapeño sauce on toasted brioche bun. Then clockwise from top left - cornbread with maple glaze in a Barbie sized personal cast iron skillet; beet salad with goat cheese half spheres; a dessert tray of black apple cake with hay ice cream (yes, seriously), chamomile pot de creme and a duck fat beignet; an assortment of ice creams - fenugreek, fennel/maitake mushroom/burnt hazelnut (all tasted fabulous and in each you could taste the listed flavors); entree of duck and wild mushroom tart; white bean soup and finally a pasta dish of ravioli with two fillings. Just a note on what it would take to make it yourself. See that hexagonal white blob on the bottom row, middle pic? That's a potato foam. Forgive me for not recalling the full procedure but the prep is roughly 7 hours long. First, the cut potatoes are cooked in a sous vide for 2 hours so that no moisture is added to them. Then a succession of ricing, smoking, drying, undrying, mashing, placing in a foam machine that looked like a whipped cream dispenser and boom - a tiny dollop of potato. It tasted great. But man - that's a lot of effort for a mouthful of potato. I don't think I'll be trying it at home. Over two hours of eating and chatting. I brought a couple of my restaurant-based cartoons as my personal thanks for the meal and was shocked that Justin, their sommelier, had done a cartoon of his own ahead of time for me! Just stick to wine, Justin - I don't need any MORE competition with my magazine editors ... With Dylan ably providing the primary chef duties and Amaya and Justin handling the booze, the meal was a smashing success. The food pairings were masterfully chosen and timing of the dishes meant we were always primed for the next one. Although the succession of what I'd call dessert dishes made me start to feel like a Hobbit enjoying dessert, second dessert and then post seconds. As Anton Ego said in Ratatouille (and they have a cute Reme rat under glass on a shelf) "I shall be returning, hungry for more."

Every dish was absolutely delicious, making it hard to pick a favorite, but the Duck Potstickers were especially outstanding- an easy 10/10! For drinks, my friend enjoyed a Zinfandel while I ordered the Coppertone rum cocktail, which was refreshing and perfect for a warm evening. Our host and waitress were extremely attentive, knowledgeable about both the food and beverage menus, and offered excellent recommendations. We sat outdoors on the rooftop deck under an umbrella, which provided a lovely atmosphere. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of downtown Milford, with plenty of free off-street parking available. The only downside was the motorcycle traffic from a nearby biker bar. Every time a group rode by, the engines were quite loud and interrupted the otherwise relaxing ambiance. The food and service were good--but the end of the night completely ruined the experience.
